Health / Re: Dangers Of Obesity. by DrAbbey1(m): 9:40pm On Jul 06, 2016
Now to the SOCIAL component
The mass media is awash with adverts displaying slim women in bikini smiling and enjoying life. There are beauty pageants held world over with emphasis on slim people. Everywhere you go, obese people are relegated in the social scene. They are seen as outcasts and unhealthy people.
The obese people thus feel stigmatized and suffer all complications that result from it. So they lose job opportunities and friends and are called all manner of unprintable names.

Health / Re: Dangers Of Obesity. by DrAbbey1(m): 9:21pm On Jul 06, 2016
Thanks Zeiya.
The next component is the PSCHOLOGICAL component.
1. Low self esteem: obese people often feel inferior to others. They feel they are not attractive. They think people don't want to associate with them. They may not exude confidence in their interaction with others and are thus prone to manipulation and pressure.
2. Depression : when there is a continuous feeling of low self esteem, there is a feeling of worthlessness and hopelessness. Thus depression sets in especially with ladies or women.
3. Suicide : when depression continues for a long time an obese person may begin to have suicidal ideas. And if unchecked can lead to bodily harm or eventual suicide.

Health / Dangers Of Obesity. by DrAbbey1(m): 6:33pm On Jul 06, 2016
Obesity is on the rise in Africa. It is commonly associated with affluence in Nigeria. Obesity is a serious health concern as it affects an individual's BIO PSYCHO SOCIAL profile.
I want to elucidate the BIOLOGICAL component today i.e how obesity affects health.
It predisposes to
1. Diabetes Mellitus (type 2)
2. Systemic Hypertension
3. Some cancers e.g breast cancer and colon cancer
4. Gallstones
5. OsteoArthritis
6. Stroke.

Business / Re: Banning Forex Trading And Sports Betting Promotion by DrAbbey1(m): 3:13pm On May 03, 2016
You cannot dictate to humans how to live their lives . I have been on nairaland for years and I have never for once visited some sections like food and fashion. You can create a thread on the dangers of gambling if you do not like it, but forcing people not to air their opinions on a legal entity is not only discriminatory but also a denial of fundamental human right... Right to expression.

I trained in UITH and I never heard it being done there at that time. I know it could only be done in teaching hospitals or few hi tech labs but I don't know any that does. So, I just need a specific place and an estimate of the cost there.
Health / Re: Dna Test In Nigeria by DrAbbey1(m): 8:18pm On Jul 08, 2015
Juxtified:

There are labs all over Nigeria that do it. Some go for about N85,000 for routine tests and as high as N150,000 when the court is involved (legal cases)
thanks. i'll appreciate if you could be more location specific.

Religion / Re: Why Smartphones Are No Substitute For Bibles by DrAbbey1(m): 10:23am On Jun 14, 2015
nedu2000:
Reasons why sincere Christians should take the book known as the bible to church not a smartphone

1) Holding a bible shows one to be a Christian in public,it acts as an 'identity card' for every Christian. Ipads, smartphones does no such thing

2)Civilisation/technology has given us world where homosexuality is gradually being accepted, female reverends and gender changes all in contrast to biblical pronouncements. The church shouldn't follow the ways of this present world so closely

3)Christians lose the essence of the bible like the order of biblical books(after genesis is exodus.....3rd John then revelations) as a simple google search provides answer in comparison to scrolling round the bible and get fully acquitted with it

4) Ipads, smartphone substitutes acts as sources of distraction in churches with calls, pings, alerts and 'nairalanding' available at one's beck/call.

5) Ipads, smartphones serve one primary aim to most holders, showoff

6) 'battery low'

In response to your 6 points
1. Holding a bible in public is not your 'identity card' as a christian. Your identity card as a christian is your 'christ like' life.
2. Your 2nd point has no bearing to the topic. Would you rather be uncivilised? Your use of nairaland is a testament to beauty of technology.
3. Why are you sounding like someone that would use grinding stone instead of a blender.
4. There are features on each pad or tablet that can prevent such distracting features.
5. If using a tab/ I pad is a show off, then maybe you're broke.
6. There is a port for charging on every tab/i pad and it comes with a charger.
My point, don't get stuck in your archaic reasoning.
Politics / Re: Nigerians Nominate For Buhari’s Cabinet by DrAbbey1(m): 8:56am On May 29, 2015
Flets:
And all of a sudden

It doesn't matter that someone condemned the attack of the military on Bokoharam

It doesn't matter that someone described an attack on Bokoharam as an attack on the north

It doesn't matter that someone urged muslims to vote only muslims in a secullar country like Nigeria

It doesn't matter that someone committed to the spread of sharia across the country (the feasibility is a diff topic)

It doesn't matter that someone instigated the death of over 1000 Nigerians just because he lost an election in 2011

It doesn't matter that someone enacted retroactive laws to deal with a select set of people

It doesn't matter anymore that someone ended democracy with the barrel of a gun to assume office

Does it really not matter anymore..... Time shall tell.

We might have just killed morality and damned our sensibilities to the HOPE of a better Nigeria.

And please don't tell me he is my president for the next 4 or 8 Years cos I know that already and that is not the thrust of my thought process.

In sane societies, these would matter. Even if he wins such elections, he would be approached with so much consciousness and carefulness but not with all open arms because the words of a man defines a man and people hardly change.

Just before you scream Sai Baba..... Something must be wrong with the black race.
And your points exactly? Would you rather continue with 4 years under Jonathan's administration? If yes, then there is something wrong with the black race. Change is here.
Education / Re: The "BIG" Gap Between Engineering And Medical Students! by DrAbbey1(m): 5:16pm On Oct 07, 2014
I have heard these arguments over and over again but its just a simple answer. Doctors were trained to work in the hospital and during NYSC they work in the hospital thus they are being paid as a professional with expert service. On the other hand, you went to university to become an engineer but instead of working in an engineering firm, you are teaching mathematics and physics in a classroom. Also, don't be myopic because of NYSC. Love your work and find fulfilment in it. May God crown our efforts.

eyeview:

In other civilized parts of the world, the Laboratory scientists are the ones that ought to culture this virus and then forward their observations to the pharmacists who will dig deep to develop a vaccine for it. Doctors are just to administer it.
So they shouldn't call out the doctors if this other two haven't done their parts yet. Crises have emerged and they are calling on the doctors, but pay wise, the
y want the doctors salary!
I honestly don't get you. Who orders for a laboratory investigation in 'civilized parts of the world'. So a pharmacist can now order for viral culture ? So Pharmacists are now to report and interprete laboratory findings. You are not well informed. By the way, that 'doctors are just to administer it' shows that you don't have any idea of how a 'civilized' health sector operates.

PwC is a very good place to work and they encourage career development. My immediate elder brother works there and he did not know anybody there when he applied. All the best. Just want it BADLY and let the panelists see that you mean business during interviews.
Fashion / Re: The $10 Million Most Expensive Bra, Comes With Two Bodyguards (PHOTOS) by DrAbbey1(m): 11:15am On Oct 17, 2013
Well , in my own opinion, the bra is going to be worn by humans not goats or camels. Luxury was made to be used by man. How about those buying private jet, yacht, etc. If you have money, enjoy it. Also, these precious gems, rubies and the likes appreciates in value over time so it is a good investment for the owner. It could also go off at auction price in the future. Please think Big.
