Hello Everyone,

Been a silent reader, please may I ask if anyone has details for an affordable maternity package in Michigan.

I look forward to your help.

Regards,
Well the quote in have is for $10,000(all inclusive)
But I was told it usually isn't up to that I.e if you have your tests, come in around 34 weeks, don't end up with a c/s or complications but d quote is as above .

Pls, this question is for those that flew BA and added an infant on dre return leg especially those whose flight connected through American Airlines at some point. What was your baby allowed to carry as regards to baggage? M asking this question cos American airlines is saying i must pay 200$ for my baby's 23kg. Phema and others that flew with BA
At check in just check your bag in to your final destination don't think it shud incure an extra cost if you check the bag right in to Nigeria ,it's stated on their web that if you don't check in your bag to final destination you may incur extra charges.best to email BA and print their reply.

Wow the longest maternity leave I know is 3 months you can get up to 5 months but no pay with the extra 2 months.
Traveling at 25 weeks is suspicious u have over 15 weeks to go,minus a recovery time of 6 weeks that's over 5 months, makes it seem a lie.

Departure date don't correspond with gestational age.
Hmmmm well I think u have to travel out and then come back in again but the billion dollar question is should you come back to naija and present your documents at, or do a quick one .
I think you should return to the U.S. around 33/34 weeks.
You are better off coming back to naija and sorting out with the embassy.
A colleague of mine had a valid b1/b2 ,when she decided to have her baby she went there with her burden of proof and applied for the B2 she dint know about sending the embassy an email though.
May be a good option for you, it's unlikely they would refuse you since you used d visa.

No visa wasn't granted to you based on that 250k because that is not even enough for flight ticket let alone hospital bills.

Firstly am guessing u work in a company they have heard of well ie shell,Mobil, akintola Williams

Secondly I am sure you or your husband have a travel history to other countries

Third you and your husband are not junior workers
Fourth if your hubby has ever applied before they have info on your earnings

Please House, i have a Sister having a problem. She had a 2yrs visitor's visa with her husband that was got early 2014 and she is now 32weeks pregnant and decided to use d opportunity to give birth in d USA since they can both afford it. But unfortunately, i did not know what she said wrong, at d USA immigration today, her i-90 was cleared for just 2weeks with NO EXTENSION & NO ADJUSTMENT. She had already booked a return ticket for june with d hope that she will put to bed in d US in may. PLS, WMIS THERE ANY SOLUTION AND WHAT CAN U ADVISE ?
If she has a uk visa she shud leave d country after the 2 weeks for the uk and renter through another point of entry I think but wudda been good if she informed embassy before leaving naija.

Compression socks are not for every one. I bought one but did not use it coz my doctor said I didn't need to because I never had swollen feet thru my preg and had no history of high bp. He strongly recommended drinking gallons of water and walking around every hour as much as possible which helped a lot. So pls consult ur doc if u are sure he knows his salt and then mKe up your mind on whether to wear or not.
Not very likely to be comfortable moving about every hour (you'll probably fall asleep or just too lazy to do this) imagine 4 preggies on a flight
Drinking gallons of water means peeing loads of times(and fitting into the small convenience )
So if these aren't things you are gonna do the least is to wear compression socks which are not just for swollen feet but also to prevent the risk of blood clotting in you.

Please feel free to dose on aspirin as you like
Why I put the post up, someone asked a nairalander to use aspirin (NSAID)for her flight and she asked me.
And I clearly stated don't use it as a substitute (self medication)for stocks not don't take if prescribed
It's simple research has shown increased incidence of fetal heart defects in mothers who take aspirin in the first and third trimester(thankfully there is Google )
Aspirin is a categorie D drug (Google the meaning)
When a patient presents with eclampsia it's a case of risk vs benefit,so yes they would give low dose cos that's the only way to help keep the mother "alive" but except there is a life threatening pregnancy complication it's a no no
And professors of medicine know this so next time you see your "experienced doctor " ask him of aspirin is linked to cardiac defects or not then run back here and tell us!!! grin

Pls don't underestimate it's function o, pregnancy predisposes to emboli and a long flight makes it worse.lets not hear anyone slumped o
Abeg
If you can't find discuss with your doctor he may decide to give you a drug for the trip just for prevention and Pls don't take aspirin as a substitute o not good for ur baby!

Call up an immigration lawyer, that way you are 100% sure and can make an informed decision on what's best for you

After searching online
Heard madela symphony is the best costs $1300
Next best is madela freestyle(it pumps both breasts and its hands free costs about $350
Madela swing takes a lot of time to pump and can only pump one breast at a time and you have to hold it but it's about $100
All are electric.heard manual pumps are useless for first timers donno
Was told to request for an European cord as it won't work in naija due to voltage difference
So no buggie for me yay!
America uses 110 volts we use 240 volts , I was told they sell the extra cord for u so u can use that in naija, instead of a transformer which would burn it Pls am curious to know too

Hello Oyin,
Still wondering how come your British passport isn't transferrable to your kids. Everyone I know with one has transferred to their kids. The condition for some is that the kids must be born in the Uk. I also have friends who do not have a British passport but their kids have because they were born in the UK and have ancestors that were UK citizens.
In my opinion it is worth doing further research as your healthcare should be covered since you are a citizen and the service here is usually better. Besides the perks of having a British passport far outweigh the US one.

quote author=0yin post=31671346]
Hello people,

kindly help!!!

- Does one with birtitsh passport require a visa for birthing in the US

- This passport is non transferable to children (before some people start asking why not consider the UK for birthing)

- If one requires a visa what is the process like?

- if the visa is not required what is the process like.

Remember that those with the UK passport have a waiver to the US for 90 days maximum without a visa.

Would appreciate your responses. Thank you
Was wondering my self cos my sis hubby is british and he got his daughter a british passport and after 5 years of marriage my sister got hers.
So am really shocked but hey it's good for d child to be british-American grin
Nairalanders giving information since 1900 grin I am new on the forum, this is my first post and I must commend y'all on a job well done, which is still being done well! I started reading from the very first page, and though I am still on it, I must say the wealth of information is awesome! However, I'd like to ask a question...for a woman who is travelling alone to have her baby in the USA, is it necessary to go along with my husband's passport to the embassy for my visa interview? I have travelled out of the country a couple of times but this will be my first trip to the USA. I am asking because I saw it as one of the requirements on Phema's burden of proof. [/quote
If your husband has been to the USA before you don't need to take his passport just fill his name in the DS160 form as it is on his passport the VO will have his records on her computer but if he has never been to the USA before you need to take his passport with you

For Howard county hospital, the estimate they gave us was $8500 for V delivery and $10500 for Csection. We had to pay a deposit of $5000 before delivery.

Delivery was normal with no complications and I didn't use epidural which brought down our bill to $5413 and $880 for the baby. Dunno how much they charge for epidural and the anesthetic bill.
The thought of labour without epidural sends me peeing in my panties, all those poor women screaming and crying,I kinda made a mental note since school never to try it .....phew

For people interested in giving birth in Maryland/DC/VA, here is my list. I also added from other nairaland members who have shared their experiences.

As mentioned before, it is quite pricey compared to other states. If you have any to add, you can share.

All the best!

Hi drafrican

Can I ask what doctor/hospital you are using in Maryland and the associated costs.

Thanks!

Howard university hospital (fsfleur@huhosp.org) but cross check d distance with where u are staying.
If you've had a complication free pregnancy n no complications with baby the estimate is $9500 all inclusive( epidural peadiatrician etc) and you are not charged extra if you come for false labour.
Heard Prince george is cheaper though, but I got confused dr Akoda said estimate is about 4500-6500( his secretary) but the hospital sent me a quote of $10,000.

My VO experience
That lovely day I wore one of my best suits and a really strong sweet cologne lol
Well I got into the hall and discovered you stand for the interview(weird)
I had batched all my documents I.e hubby's finances,my health records,hospital correspondence, hubby's employment,
My employment, my finances and baby's birth plan would upload it later......

Back to d hall I could hear d voice of one Indian man "you don't know why you are going to school in the USA , you do not qualify for the visa at this time"
The interviews are abnormally short and brief and I learnt a few things, don't say what you are not asked, don't show documents when not asked or it looks like ur desperately trying to prove a point, smile smile smile and don't give one word answers but don't say too much too.respond to each question and learn small fonee d accent Na die
They just kept giving blue cards to everybody only one person got a white slip .....lucky me I was sent to that same person
A lady about 28/32 with Afro and glasses
I have never been to the USA but I had my 3rd 2yr uk visa running, I attached my old and new passport to show a travel history.
Hubby was outside praying.....lol
Me:good morning ma (smile )
VO: hello good morning
Passport please
Me: smiled and handed it over
VO: flips through,types on computer
I see you are headed to maryland ,why?
Me: to have my(son/ daughter) and to shop
VO: what do you do for a living
Me: bleep
VO: what's your work
Me: (confused) I am responsible for...... Remembered I filled it online
VO: how much do you earn ....
Me:less than 200k ( yes that's the truth so it's not by salary say same with what's on your form )smile
Vo:what does your husband do
Me: told her his 3 jobs
VO:how much does he earn in a month
Me: (hubby has a long hx of USA travel she was prob viewing it) it's hard to tell but he makes earnings from salary and investment such as ......
VO: do you have a hospital correspondence
Me :yes
VO: how did you hear about them
Me: from my husbands relative that works there
VO: can I see it
Me : smile and handed it over to her I already attachéd birthplan to it too late to start separating
VO: who would you be staying with
Me : sis in law
VO: who prepared this birthplan
Me: I wrote it out and my husband typed it( it was pink with hearts on it lol)
VO: how long
Me:about 3 months
VO: you need to keep all this records and show them at arrivals. Pick up your visa on Monday
Me: thank you ma
VO: what's your maiden name
Me:...... Oh you still use your maiden name yes
VO : smiles
Only document shown was email correspondence and birth plan
I think we need to help others it's not just VO questions that matter but the answers

Left the hall and caught up with the other guy they gave the visa, it was his first visa too but he had been to d uk

Saw preggies as I left at 8:30 lol nairalanders
Wud be glad to answer any questions.
