So how did Awoniyi do it.
Awoniyi did not press high. His pressing was targeted and he had Nacho to help too. In fact, Nacho pressed more than Awoniyi did. What Awoniyi did very well was hold-up play and ball recovery.

Also, Egypt were not heaping pressure on our defense in the first half, we were the ones doing it to them. When Sadiq came on, they were desperate to score so they pushed forward and we sat back. In such situations a lone striker is allmost useless, especially against four defenders singlehandedly.

That’s his style of play. To me, he was more productive than Simon, chukwueze and needs to be starting
I don't know what everyone else is watching.

Ejuke had 2 shots on target out of our 5 despite only playing 20 minutes. He was more productive than Simon and Chukwueze combined in this game. He was just unlucky to miss and that there was no true outlet in time for him to make a pass for a tap-in.

Not true. Iwobi was free. You can even see Iwobi making that usual hands- to- the- feet gesture footballers make indicating that they are free for a pass.
Iwobi got free too late... It was at the last second when Ejuke had settled for a shot. He should have opened earlier.

Football takes no prisoners and you either perform and get dropped.

Ajayi comes in in the place of Omeruo and he makes an immediate impression. Fast and tenacious with his first touch of the ball.

I thought Ajayi was slow but he showed he is not be today. I actually prefer him to Omeruo.

You seize the moment with the few minutes you have and make an impression.
Sadiq had much less of the ball than Ajayi did.

FFS how does a striker show his value when the entire team is parking the bus? That's just like saying Ederson performs poorly in Man City games because he rarely sees the ball.

The say the best defence is to attack .

So when you be come on with just 20 minutes to go , you run your socks off. So you press from the front, this is basic football.

He comes on and he is so slow and languid he couldn't chase a single defender down. Oh he is a snail no problems.

You are 6'5" every ball in the air is yours ,failed woefully there too, ok he is big Dude, bully the Egyptian defender on no big 4 NUTTIN got bullied by the Egyptian defenders instead.

Now compare what Awoniyi did and what he did one was nowhere to be seen and the other was dominating fton the first minute.

Sadiq should be sent home NUTTIN to offer.
We watched different games then.

Sadiq was very lively. Not as strong as I expected but definitely lively. He pressed decently and ran into channels to create chances.

Sorry bro but Ejuke has no excuse especially for the second he could have hit a one time ball to Iwobi which would have left the Egyptian defender at sea. It was when he advanced and slightly changed his angled run that the defender could now block Iwobi's path.

Chidera has bags of ability but his decision making has to improve massively.
The Egyptian defender was faster than Iwobi... He would have stopped Iwobi way before he came anywhere near the 18. You can't give a pass that early if you see that who you are passing to will be closed down, that's basic tactics.

See how the defender completely covered that area, so much so that Iwobi had to drift away to see if he could pounce on the loose ball or if Ejuke would square it.

Also you guys are saying Ejuke was selfish for the two shots he had saved.

For the first, he pushed the ball too far out that he could not give an accurate pass sideways before having it cut out, so he just went for the shot.

For the second, Iwobi got closed down by the defender immediately Ejuke got the ball in an area he could pass to him. Everyone he could pass to was closed down or marked. The only free guy was Sadiq, and he arrived into position too late.

I knew Sadiq was bad but l expected WAY MORE

You are in the Segunda and have been for two seasons, this is your chance to SHOW WHAT YOU CAN DO.

Seize the opportunity

He will never have a bigger game than this , no urgency, no determination, no presence, no technique, no pace, no physicality, no aggression, no skill, NO NOTHING.

Nwakali self the AM the midfield maestro WOW lost for Words.

KC really found his position which is behind the Attacker , Aribo was very composed and if Moses had some finesse he should have scored. All round very good performance.

Low points substitutions.
This is untrue. Sadiq was very active. Remember, we were parking the bus towards the end of the game and he was the only one pressing. He didn't get any chance, and the few times he touched the ball he caused problems for the Egyptian defense.

Agreed

It’s a decent lineup

The coach cannot be perfect as we where expecting to see awaziem and ejuke .
The lineup is perfect really... Salah's threat requires a winger who can track back. Moses Simon is good at that.

I think Simon will put in a good performance today in contrast to with Rohr. Rohr really jinxed our players with his mentality.

Being left footed is a gift. A very rare and precious gift. The only disadvantage is the coaches who want to convert almost every left footed player into a winger or fullback grin

Thank God we have the likes of Haaland, Lukaku, Giroud and Iheanacho.
Lukaku and Giroud are virtually two-footed. Haaland kinda is too. Every good striker reallly hasto be two-footed because situations arise where you have to convert with your supposed weak foot.

The only reason I'm not going to insult Eguavoen here is because he's the one seeing the players in training.

However, Ejuke dribbles from the wing, either coming from wings or driving to the wings. Playing him as 10 will just destabilize the attack. Can he even give a through pass. He hardly does so for CSKA. If he's not playing as a winger then he should be on the bench abeg.

Eguavoen seems a little too mesmerized by Ejuke's dribbling. It's becoming annoying.
Lmao you don’t watch CSKA then. Ejuke is not a winger for CSKA, he is a left-sided AM (part of the 2 in like a 4-3-2-1). Most of his CSKA highlights show him collecting the ball from deep in midfield and then drifting into the left wing.

Also he gives through passes for CSKA too. Watch his highlights.

Egypt will play better against us than Morocco played against Ghana today. Their team mostly plays together and are from the same league.

Collins, Omeruo has not been particularly good infact , even Zaidu is all running no quality end product or football intelligence.
Zaidu’s crossing is decent…

We don’t need him to be a Robbo or a Trent, as long as he is fast to recover, strong and can cross well, for me he’s okay.

Yes he scored 3 or 4 goals but he was a slow player during the Rio olympics.I was surprised seeing Siasia include him in the lineup each match.
We all have our opinions though
His goals were essential for our medal. He won the Honduras game almost singlehandedly.

Stop trying to belittle his achievements.

True. They can be dangerous when they get into a game (which doesn't happen often), but while they don't you can run circles around them.

I think we will play better
I don't want better, I want organized. I want to be able to keep possession for an extended period by playing short passes on the ground from defense to midfield to attack. I want a fluid team that attacks together and defends together. I want a team that plays triangles in the attacking third, a team that plays through passes.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any through pass in all the AFCON games I have watched so far. I remember watching the Euros and seeing at least one through pass a game, inttercepted or not. That tells you how poor African football is.

Ghana is relying on the strength and pace of their wingers/attackers Sulemana, the Ayew brothers and Paintsil.

Get the ball in defense, play long ball forward and hope the wingers are fast and strong enough to beat their man.

Hakimi is such a graceful player. Ziyech is missed, his play helped organize the team. If not for Hakimi, Kamaldeen Sulemana would be running riot on that left wing because the guy is too fast and strong.
