TheLoneCitizen:Onuachu ![]() |
TheLoneCitizen:I feel like the guy hasn't reached his full potentials yet, and he struggles a lot with consistency. We will see how he continues to develop though. I still think Aribo is our greatest steal in recent years (post Vicmo). An in-form Aribo is lethal, we saw that today with his two assists and the numerous chances he created for Roofe that were missed. Too bad his loss in form (January through March) coincided with the most important game of his international career vs. Ghana. By the way, Bassey's long ball that changed the Rangers game is why he should start for us at left CB with Zaidu at LB and Balogun as right CB. Elite. |
TheLoneCitizen:He is not good enough as you claim. For one, he is not fluid. Look at Daka's movement coming on, that is a fluid attacker that will cause problems on and off the ball. Second, he is very lazy off the ball. Doesn't track back, can't last 90 mins. Poor stamina. He is good, but without those qualities in today's football it is very difficult to play for the best teams. Look at Salah for example, has everything Nacho has (except hold-up play maybe) but he tracks back, is good off the ball, is much faster, you can go on and on. |
andrewbaba44:Would you be interested in redacting your statement? ![]() |
drDoom3:I made this post on Feb 06, before knockouts. It was clear even then that they would tear the big boys apart with their playing style. |
fabyom:Not live. |
fabyom:We did lose a World cup slot to them. Whether we lost by 10-0 or by away goals, it doesn't matter. |
andrewbaba44:Our defense is crap. Of the four, only Zaidu and Balogun even play at all for their clubs. Balogun plays in Scotland. Imagine having such a defense come up against players like Haaland and Mbappe. I remember how Salah violated Zaidu in UCL group stages. Senegal, for example, has a back line of Ballo-Toure, Sabaly, Koulibaly and Diallo. Diallo plays for PSG, Koulibaly is the best defender in Serie A and has been for years. Ballo-Toure is at Milan, Sabaly at Betis. These are guys that play against the best attackers daily for their clubs. Funny enough, this isn't even a world class defense, so what will you now call ours? Some of us have big dreams about SE players, but we have to accept reality. Our players are really not good enough. |
Goke7:Our entire defense is crap. Our midfield is semi-crap, crap when Ndidi is absent. Our frontline is decent but not world class or close. |
Remember when I talked about comparing us to the USMNT who use data to analyze football? We are so far behind coaching wise that it is painful to see. I don't think Eguavoen knows more than formation and marking as a coach. Coaches of nowadays use their players the way puppetmasters use their puppets or choir leaders dictate an orchestra. Every player is giving clear instructions, every move of the game is practiced and timed almost to perfection. When your team cannot string together concurrent passes in progressive areas of the pitch, you are a bad coach. When your team cannot create solid chances despite having the better attacking talent, you are a bad coach. Look at Liverpool and City, no matter how bad a game is they will create at least 5 solid goalscoring chances in a game. This is because they are drilled on where, when and how to pass to open spaces and unlock defences. Look at the Portugal vs. Macedonia game for example. Portugal were so efficient in attack, one slip-up in midfield from Macedonia and with 3 passes between Fernandes and Ronaldo the ball is in the net. We simply are just poor, imagine meeting a team like that in a tournament with the way we were playing, we would be lucky to escape 3-0. |
JohnBullMySon:Gabon drew Ghana, couldn't beat them. |
TheLoneCitizen:It is difficult for guys in Russia to move as almost nothing is happening there save sanctions, but Ukraine guys literally have no choice as they are in the middle of the war. |
Danielnino00:Bielsa, easy. Klinsmann is a coaching failure, failed with the USMNT in a very similar way to Eguavoen. You always know what Bielsa will give you, and with the right personnel (which we have) Bielsa can rub shoulders with any team anywhere. He only left Leeds because his best players like Bamford and Phillips got injured, and the guys that stepped in just weren't good enough (i.e poor squad depth). |
caprikon:God forbid. Queiroz is not the best for the attacking talents we have. |
By the way, Rohr too was a poor coach. Eguavoen was worse but Rohr was still poor. What we need is a tactician that understands the skill set of our players and can maximize them to the good of the team. A coach who can look at a game and do what needs to be done tactically to ensure we come out with the W. Eguavoen’s biggest failure was overrating his team so much that he overlooked the finer tactical details that would have swung the game to our favor in favor of the big picture that “we are better than them”. |
Odunayaw:Coaches always say “we take it game after game”, e get why. One thing Otto Addo did well was to study our team and play the best tactics that would maximize Ghana’s chances of qualifying, even with a relatively poor squad. I’m sorry, but Eguavoen didn’t do that. |
semid4lyfe:Walahi I will be extremely happy if we can snatch Belmadi. He is one coach that can get his players to play like a team. That loss to Cameroon was really just unlucky. |
Odunayaw:Easy, he made them play together. In Abuja, you could hardly point out individual Ghana players. The defended in unison, executed the game plan all together. They were lucky multiple times in both legs but even then it showed how well drilled they were positionally, which we lacked. |
caprikon:We are simply not efficient in attack against drilled teams. We create many half chances instead of proper chances due to poor passing, decision making and build up play. When we do create decent chances, our attackers don't communicate well, make the wrong decisions or just outright miss. We lack organization and efficiency in the way we are set up. We struggle to find ourselves on the pitch. We didn't know how to attack, we struggle to maintain possession in attacking areas and control the tempo of the game because we cannot pass. We are relying on one lucky ball to Osimhen instead of setting our team up so that we have regular direct balls to him in good positions. It shows our coaches are either lazy tactically or just not knowledgeable enough on the modern game. |
Kayyy:That is my issue with Eguavoen and co. Forget name, Otto Addo was born and bred in Germany. He understands and implements the modern game. Guy came in and got Ghana up to shape in days. Eguavoen has been with this team since December last year and they are still struggling to link up and find each other on the pitch. I said it before, we do not play as a team and it will haunt us. We rely too much on individual talents: what Osimhen can do, what Simon can do etc. instead of what the overarching team can do in unison. Our next coach must prioritize making us press, pass and create chances as a unit rather than just throwing big names around. PS: Osimhen I saw today is not worth 50 million pounds, let alone 100 million. All na hype. There was a ball he got on the right wing that he crossed to the skies, those attempted bicycle kicks could have been controlled and placed, poor offside awareness multiple times in the game etc. He has heart but his decision making is so poor to be worth that much. He can use that gra-gra to boss Serie A but when he goes to bigger leagues like the Champions League and EPL he will be badly exposed. |
Odunayaw:People are not removing eye. We are just more angry that we could not score a goal from open play in 180 mins against a poor Ghana side. |
Odunayaw:Semi would have been a much better sub than Shehu. 1. More of a threat from set-pieces 2. Better passing 3. Stronger physically |
We need to rebuild. Our goalkeeping department needs an overhaul, we have to scout good keepers and get a proper goalkeeping coach. At least all these old cargo (Musa, Ighalo and co.) will get cleared out. We have to remove sentiments from our selections. Guys like Akpoguma should be in the team for example. We need a coach with a proven record. No more patch patch vibes coaches. Otto Addo had a clear gameplan he trained his players with over both legs, we unfortunately didn't. His plan was clear, use home advantage to press and try to win, away score early and play for a draw. The most important thing is he had his players play as a team, not as individuals. It is shocking that our players cannot link up with each other on the pitch, just a bunch of individuals trying to make something happen. Look at teams like Ukraine play, you find it hard to single out one player. They attack together, press together, move together. We don't have that and it is painful. |
Uzoho with no sense of urgency. Some of our players do not seem to understand that if things end this way, we are out. |
zuchyblink:Not possible. You can't bench Osimhen and a 4-4-2 with Ighalo is even worse than with Iheanacho because at least Iheanacho can shoot from afar, drop deep, link up and give delicious through passes like the one to Simon on Friday. Ighalo is a poacher. |
zuchyblink:That is why Dennis is our best winger, closely followed by Lookman. They can dribble, but they don't dribble for dribbling sakes. The dribble when necessary to get into advanced positions, but they are so much more direct. |
JohnBullMySon:We have better talents man to man but we are too tactically deficient. These guys use data to formulate tactics for games, for us it’s just 90s football, vibes, 4-4-2, may your will be done and inshallah. |
andrewbaba44:Dennis tried both offensively and defensively in Ghana. His recovery was very good and he looked dangerous. Lookman looked lost though, he is still adjusting to African football I think. |
komekn:He was linked to the City group, specifically to Troyes in France. The plan was to buy then loan him to Troyes. By the way, Almeria fans rate Sadiq above Nunez that everyone is after right now. Remember, Sadiq was Nunez’s replacement. |
nelszx:Impressive. They will even come all the way to my side, Orozo. Trust me, the stadium will be filled up. |
daveP:What we need is intense passing practice. We can't string 3 concurrent passes in midfield, what an embarassment for top league players. We should be high pressing and playing triangles in midfield not all this nonsense long ball and inshallah. Funny thing is, our players are much better than Ghana ball on ground. Aribo and Nacho are excellent through-passers, just pass the ball on the ground and create chances. |
andrewbaba44:After that woeful performance, no be our fault. |
