That’s not the typical description of what happens in embrology and anatomy books by Prof. Keith Moore.
The elongation of body relative to position of kidneys is what is observed, not migration of kidneys. Thats why you can have developmental anomalies like horseshoe kidneys etc. The elongation of the trunk is what causes positions of kidneys to change, not migration of kidneys. There is no mesentry that will drag the kidneys because they are retroperitoneal structures. Structures that move are usually having a mesentery or cord that drags them. This is the case with testis. There is a cord that drags it along into the scrotum during descent. The kidney has no such structure.

Let me lecture you further. The kidney does not move but the upper part of the body elongates faster than lower part in early stages of fetal life. But after delivery the lower parts develops faster and eventually the kidneys remain in same position around L1 level. That was its position in early stage of development along with gonads. That’s why their blood supply and nerves arise from T12/L1. I am teaching you anatomy and embryology for free. You might not get that on google.
