I just read the Thisday appraisal of the 2023 elections and their claim that Northwest is the battleground or would determine who becomes president and couldn’t help but shake my head at their clear mischief.

But I know what they are doing… they are trying to water down the effect of recent ANAP poll which projected an Obi victory as against the candidate of the owner Thisday/AriseTV Media Group which is Atiku Abubakar.

However, it is so appalling that a media platform like Thisday will deploy its platform to sell a clearly skewed narrative with no iota of reflection on the reality on ground.

For a better understanding of the reality of the 2023 elections, let’s do a very quick and brief appraisal of the different geopolitical zones in the country and how they are likely to vote to better understand why Northwest is not the battleground that Thisday claimed.

ANAP polls and other reputable polls, and reality on ground, has shown that Peter Obi is poised to sweep Southeast and Southsouth.

Now, because of Christian sentiments and the continued massacre of the people Middle Belt, these people are now understandably leaning towards an Obi candidacy which is why analysts have rightly predicted Obi to win the North Central.

Then add the votes Obi is clearly going to get from other Christian areas like Taraba, Adamawa, southern Bauchi, southern Borno and Southern Gombe in the Northeast; and southern Kaduna and southern Kebbi in the Northwest, with the votes he’s likely to get from all the states in Southwest, and you see clearly why Obi is poised to win the upcoming election at first ballot except you want to lie to yourself.

Because the truth is that whether by Obi’s making or by chance, 99% of Christians in Nigeria has taken the upcoming election very personal and are now sentimental about it.

Now, this is clearly in contrast to Tinubu who as of today is realistically only sure of votes from Southwest states and maybe Borno and Yobe in the Northeast, and Zamfara and Kaduna like Thisday rightly said.

Then there’s an Atiku who has realistically been restricted to some states in Northeast and some states in Northwest while he’s hoping to get some fraction of votes from some Southsouth states which is even looking bleak for him, because nobody talks about Atiku down South.

Kwankwaso is a Kano candidate so talking about him is an unnecessary waste of time.

So, with these things I’ve said here which are very practical and factual, tell me how the election is too close to call.

So, my conclusion is that Thisday is just being mischievous and running away from obvious truth and reality that is staring at them, like most Nigerians who are still stuck in the old ways of doing things but sooner or later, they will all come around and accept reality.

Its very interesting to see your parochial religious assessment of Peter Obi’s chances in the northern part of Nigeria. Just few days ago, all northern Christian groups, including the 19 northern CAN branches have all decided to vote Tinubu. Go and watch the video on Youtube. It was held in Kaduna around Thursday or Friday. It’s going to be a massive shock to you and other religious bigots hoping for a win for Obi based on religious sentiments.

You are struggling to allocate votes to Obi based on religion. And even at that, Kwara is a minority Christian state.

Please you can make your points without sounding emotional. My point is that the federal govt presence has brought a lot of development in Abuja. The government may decide in 100 years time for example to relocate the capital to another city and a new Gbagyi governor may decide to claim the credit for a developed Abuja forgetting the federal presence aided the development of the city. So you cannot argue the fact that Lagos didn't benefit immensely for being a former federal capital. Talk about the harbours, airport, good road networks including flyovers and so on

That shows that your argument of lagos being federal capital does not fly. Abuja is not a state, so nobody can lay claim to its development except federal government. Lagos is a state and governors can lay claim to its development. Only 1/5 of lagos was under federal control. How can you claim the whole of lagos was developed by federal government?

Just like the APC Government, he started with a Christian deputy governor. But in the second term, he dropped the Christian deputy and went for a Muslim deputy governor. Today the area dominated by Christians are experiencing genocide from El-rufai led state government. The former deputy governor of central bank who spoke out has been eliminated. And someone is still supporting Tinubu and Boko Haram Shettima. NO WAY.

This is not a state affair. Otherwise there are many Christian/Christian governors in southwest who also disadvantage the muslims. We are talking of Presidency.

If both conditions are not met there will be a run off between the first two when simple majority will be the determinant

People should know that numbers do not always determine who wins in Nigeria election but number of states won.
If you win all the votes in Kano and another won in ekiti and Bayelsa even with less cumulative votes to Kano with the person who won in Kano unable to get 25% if votes in Ekiti and Bayelsa, the winner of Ekiti and Bayelsa will be declared the president even with the person who won in Kano having the highest number of votes.

In which constitution are you reading your own? Simple majority is the first consideration, not the number of states with at least 25% of votes. Nigeria does not run electoral college system. If the majority winner cannot get 25% in 2/3 of states, then it goes for rerun.

You know the stupidity of your argument. Because you know that Abuja is not a state and has been administered by federal government as a whole. That’s not the situation with Lagos.
