frankiriri:
I recognize the need for CELT EL to make their pay. If I were a shareholder I definitely wouldn't support any policy that would reduce earnings grin
Well, you are right. But I just feel that this Celtel unity tariff is just not as effective in helping them attract new subscribers like MTN extracool and glo classic plus. I remember MTN were once labeled as a "Milk Those Nigerians" until they decided to crash tariffs when they realized that the GSM market in Nigeria has changed significantly. The market is changing because the upper end (now saturated) which are made up of professionals and working class all have lines and are already loyal to their networks since they wont want to change their numbers. The only section in the market that is now growing is the lower end which is made up of people within the ages of 14 - 21 whom are new university students, secondary school grads and others whom are just purchasing their first phone. What these guys will be looking at are fun things like MTN extracool that offers free midnight since they can afford to stay awake all night. Mind you, these group of people will still grow up, graduate and become professionals in future thereby increasing their networth and average spend with time. Celtel doesn't really understand the Nigerian market yet, that's why they don't know what to do. Glo has also been more successful by surpassing celtel because they were the first to use the youth segment formula to attract a young generation of subscribers which is actually the only growing segment now.

Phones › Re: Celtel's Unity Tariff Is Deceptive! by drogba(m): 9:34am On May 06, 2007
@frankiriri, calls after midnight are only within network so they can afford to make it free since there's no interconnect charges involved.
Phones › Re: Any MTN Free Browsing Hacks? by drogba(m): 6:20pm On May 03, 2007
these operators are pretty smart and always block any loophole that subscribers find in order to browse free. i remembr the first trick i found was to leave the APN blank. i let some guys in on this trick and it was blocked by MTN 3 months later. the second trick which is quite tricky and requires a pc with opera has also been blocked. once word gets out and a bulk of people know a trick, its gonna get blocked by MTN
Phones › Re: Celtel Internet Settings! by drogba(m): 6:06pm On May 03, 2007
celtel has started charging for gprs and you need a minimum of 50 bucks in order to browse.

@Cabili and bimbayo, where the hell did you guys get the idea that Celtel is the cheapest during peak period?

MTN to MTN peak period is 50k within network and 70k off-net (Averages at 60k)
Celtel is 66k to all networks, which is cheaper then?

As an MTN sub, I get to save 16k from calling within my network and loose 4k for calling other networks when compared to Celtel's flat fee of 66k.

toksdara:
CELTEL's call rates are higher than those of other networks when it look at it statistically. Check the call rates of Celtel, Glo and MTN on each of their websites compair them with an analytical, statistical and mathematical mind to see Celtel is the most expensive!
You are absolutely right my brother, their unity tariff is really deceptive since they changed off-peak on weekends to 10pm - 6am. I wonder when their subscribers will be able to call for 33k per second if not only at night as from 10pm everyday considering the fact that it is the 33k per sec rate that they are highly advertising in their promo.
Unsuspecting subs will switch only to find out that they can't take advantage of the 33k except at night when everyone is sleeping.
Phones › Re: Celtel Slashes Tariffs: Now The Cheapest! by drogba(m): 9:03pm On Apr 07, 2007
I just confirmed it from Celtel website that peak time is 6:00am - 9:59pm (Monday - Sunday)while off-peak is 10:00pm - 5:59am (Monday - Sunday). This already means that you will be calling at a flat rate of 66k daily since most people sleep before 10pm. I knew there was something funny hidden behind the unity tariff, and a host of guys will surely find out when they see that their credit is zapping on saturday @ 66k per sec. Bye bye to Celtel the corporate robbers.
Phones › Re: Celtel Slashes Tariffs: Now The Cheapest! by drogba(m): 8:15pm On Apr 07, 2007
Does that mean off-peak excludes weekends and is only between 10pm to 6am daily? That's really cruel.

syskay:
In my own opinion Celtel is one big joke. I successfully migrated to their simply special platform, but now it seems to me like one big rip-off. My friends and family numbers are being charged 66k per second while weekend calls cost the same. I migrated cause i thought Celtel will have a weekend advantage. It is now apparent that their off-peak call do not apply throughout the weekend.
Is this really true, I thought off-peak was all weekend inclusive? It's no use being on a network that will trick and bill you falsely.

If the G sign did not appear, that means you are in an area where the GPRS service is inactive. I also have my line activated according to feelgood, but have not been able to use the Mtel GPRS since the service is inactive in my location. I got tired and reverted to using my MTN and Celtel for browsing.
Phones › Re: Any MTN Free Browsing Hacks? by drogba(m): 7:30pm On Apr 05, 2007
You can connect your phone to a PC with one setting and connect via ur phone wap browser with the other setting. You have to delete the MTN APN (web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net) and leave it blank for both settings.

i sincerely hope NCC will penalize these corporate robbers for charging their loyal subs 100 bucks for switching. i'll personally write a letter to NCC on this issue.
Phones › Re: Any MTN Free Browsing Hacks? by drogba(m): 8:41am On Apr 03, 2007
it seems you guys dont really understand how the trick works. i use it to access other sites for free. you have to create 2 settings to fool MTN server because it can't bill 2 accounts simultaneously.
Phones › Re: Mtel Wap by drogba(m): 5:47pm On Apr 02, 2007
Mtel is very inconsistent because all their subs have dumped them for other networks.

This unity tariff only makes much sense if you have less Celtel contacts and make more calls off-peak.

you can only access MTN site because you dont have enough credit on your phone. load credit and try it, i'm sure it will work.
Phones › Re: Celtel Slashes Tariffs: Now The Cheapest! by drogba(m): 4:50pm On Mar 26, 2007
the networks that will be most affected by this Celtel new tariff is glo. As for me, it makes a lot of sense to use MTN for calling only MTN contacts during weekdays and Celtel for off peak and weekends to all networks. the bottom line translates to more profit for Celtel. i sincerely hope they are prepared with enough capacity for the overload that will soon hit them.
Phones › Re: Any MTN Free Browsing Hacks? by drogba(m): 4:36pm On Mar 26, 2007
once sony site opens on pc, access wap.mtnonline via the 2nd setting on ur phone's wap browser. switch to opera on pc and start browsing other sites free.
thank me later guys and happy free browsing.
Phones › Re: Any MTN Free Browsing Hacks? by drogba(m): 4:30pm On Mar 26, 2007
all u guys that need MTN hack should follow this steps. it only works if you use opera web browser on pc, and make sure u dont have credit on ur phone because i'm not liable if MTN sucks your credit.
create 2 MTN settings on your phone and delete the APN of both settings by leaving them as blank. input IP address 10.199.212.2 & proxy 8080 in opera web browser. connect ur phone to pc with the 1st settings & go to wap.sonyericsson.com via opera
Phones › Re: Celtel:the Wacked Network! by drogba(m): 11:12am On Mar 24, 2007
well, i dont know why it took them so long to come up with this new tariff structure. i'm yet to do my calculations to find out which network has the best plan. i guess i'll keep my MTN and relegate my glo line which will be replaced by Celtel. They have finally woken up.

The whole bible story started with the creation of heaven and earth and we never really got to know how the angels, satan and God was created.
I thought it was Adam and Eve that sinned and not me, so why should I be judged for their sins?

There are so many mysteries in this world and all I can say is that this life sucks.

Phones › Re: 3G In Nigeria by drogba(m): 8:12am On Mar 10, 2007
In my opinion, I think the 3G license is overpriced. This is business and I guess the strategists at the GSM networks will be looking at the return on investment they will make via 3G as a seperate business.
GPRS has not even been widely accepted yet in Nigeria because majority of us are really just satisfied with calling only. Nigerians just want to talk so why bother purchasing a license that doesn't add profit to your company?
