Nairaland GeneralInviting Beaf For A Debate by DrummaBoy(op): 10:52am On Mar 30, 2011
I think the most hated GEJ suppporter is Beaf. And I am convinced he is sponsored from Aso Rock. But one must give it to him that he has posted some great discources on the NL and has elicited great response from NLanders. Nevertheless he is a Die Hard GEJ supporter and I am an unrepentant Buhari/Bakare supporter.
So I challenge you Beaf to a debate. What do you have against Buhari and Bakare, and why would you and others in the GEJ train not vote for these two men who are leading virtually every pole on the internet? Do you want to continue in a nation like this or do you want change? Another thing, do convince us that you are not paid from Aso Rock.
PoliticsRe: General Buhari Is A Disappointment To Me. He Is Unfit To Be President. by DrummaBoy(m): 10:25am On Mar 30, 2011
There is nothing in the General's statement that suggests he was calling for voilence. GEJ is the chief security officer of this nation and the least he can give us is free and fair elections; anything short of that would amount to failure in his responsibility as president and that is what being held accountable means.

PoliticsRe: And Just What "if" Jonathan Wins The Election. by DrummaBoy(m): 7:06pm On Mar 17, 2011
If for any reason GEJ wins the elections, I would congratulate him.
However, that had better be free and fair because if there is any element of rigging, Buhari/Bakare would not contest it in the law court and it would be left to the northerners to take the laws into their hands, We all know what that may turn out to be.
If GEJ rigs the election with the machinery of incumbency and the PDP, I would begin to take my visa lottery seriously to leave this country. In the mean time I may relocate with my family to a better democratic environment - GHANA!!!

MY SUPPORT FOR BUHARI

Nairaland is sure to determine the direction the 2011 election would go. These are some reasons for my support for the Buhari/Bakare ticket. Happy Reading!

A QUEST FOR CHANGE: Every Nigerian desires for this nation to get better. The democracy we all fought for and which was divinely delivered to us in 1998, has been so abused by the ruling (or ruining) party that most Nigerians have lost hope in things getting better. So that when the government pay salaries, make petrol available, give uninterrupted power supply for 24 hours, etc, Nigerians rejoice – when such are the least of things responsible governments around the world are doing for their citizens. Corruption is so rife in our polity, that Nigerians think it normal to be corrupt and abnormal when one upholds some kind of integrity. Nevertheless, a few good Nigerians are still thinking clearly and are searching for a change. The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), on the platform of which Gen. Buhari is running, is promising this change.

A MAN OF INTEGRITY: Muhammadu Buhari is a man of integrity. Even his worst critics cannot deny this. As a former Petroleum Minister, Gen. Buhari does not own an oil rig or even a petrol station in his name. Since retiring from active service in the government, the General has lived on his pension. When he served as PTF chairman, he refused to draw a salary from the commission, explaining that his conscience would not allow him take money from a government already paying his pension. He owns two houses: one at Kaduna; the other at Daura, his hometown in Katsina State. There are so many stories of this man’s life of integrity. A colleague of mine who served with his son said Buhari’s daughter was offered a private residence at the NYSC camp (preferential treatment for a former Head of State’s child). The young woman declined: stating that herfather must not hear of it.

ANTI-CORRUPTION: As it has been mentioned, Nigeria is reeling in corruption. The Obasanjo government legalized this hydra-headed monster and the Jonathan presidency is taking it to another level. Some have said the quickest way to make it in Abuja now is to establish a Jonathan support group and you would soon be swimming in dollars. Buhari, as a man of integrity, will tackle corruption effectively in his government, like he did in 1984. The biggest selling point of Nuhu Ribadu is his seeming success as head of the EFCC. Although his supporters forget quickly that his agency was biased in their pursuit of corrupt government officials and that he was only used as a tool to persecute Obasanjo’s political detractors. Gen. Buhari’s campaign team have made it clear that they would not be pre-occupied with pursuing past corrupt government officials to the detriment of the national development; rather, the CPC manifesto says a Buhari presidency will strengthen anti-corruption agencies (EFCC, ICPC and the Police), while it concentrates on fulfilling its campaign promises to the Nigerian populace. When the head is good, it is only a matter of time the body will get better. A Buhari presidency promises to wipe corruption out of Nigeria.

THE 1984 GOVERNMENT AND PTF: Nigeria of 1983/1984 was a pitiable state. The nation was drowning and everyone knew that except for an urgent intervention, the nation was soon to be a failed state. Even the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, at a point began suggesting a military take over. General Buhari and his deputy, Tunde Idiagbon, seized power on December 31, 1983. As military men, they introduced desperate measures that could tackle the desperate situation the nation found itself in and Nigerians were glad. Even at that, Buhari did not summarily execute corrupt politicians like his counterpart, Jerry Rawllings, in Ghana (who incidentally became a national hero for this act). The Buhari regime was not a perfect regime, but many of us cannot deny the fact that if Buhari and his colleagues did not do what they did then, we would not have a Nigeria to live in today. Many of the practices they introduced then, like the War against Indiscipline, queuing, sanitation, etc, are still being cherished and practiced all over Nigeria today.

Buhari as Chairman of PTF ensured that every state and community in Nigeria enjoyed this government’s largess. So many PTF structures still dot our landscapes today. He has been accused of having concentrated most road projects in the north; while these allegations are rarely substantiated, I will argue, as an engineer, that road construction in northern Nigeria is far less cheaper to execute than in the south, because of their naturally dry landscapes as against the marshy areas of southern Nigeria. What it will take to construct a kilometer of road in Delta State, would construct 10Km in Bauchi State.

THE TUNDE BAKARE FACTOR: Tunde Bakare’s calling to pastoral ministry, from a very successful law practice, had with it a passion for National development and as he endeavored to bring God’s word to the flock under him, he remained faithful to speaking truth to power. At peril to his life, Bakare stood up against the tyrannical rule of Abacha, until the sudden death of the despot. In 1999 he warned the nation against installing an Obasanjo – the warning having gone unheeded but leaving Nigeria in the sorry state she is in today. In January 2010, he convened the Save Nigeria Group, whose singular effort saw to it that Goodluck Jonathan was installed acting president, and finally president. In his own words, “I have had close interaction with the leading presidential candidates for the April elections, and I find Gen. Buhari’s integrity and ideas the most insightful and the one that is most likely to bring Nigeria out of its present dismal situation” (paraphrase). Gen. Buhari was to later invite him to be his running mate, when talks with ACN would not yield a merger. I see Tunde Bakare bringing grace and excellence to a Buhari presidency. Unlike what some claim that he would be marginalized, I believe Bakare would be the brain behind the running of that administration and its strength. The Latter Rain Assembly (a church were Bakare pastors without drawing a single salary from its inception) is an example of a well run church that pays taxes to the Lagos State Government for every article sold in its vicinity, and its system of government has come to be an example for some of us who have witnessed it. It would not be difficult for Bakare to replicate this at National level.

MISCONCEPTIONS: The number one misconception about Buhari is that he is a religious bigot. For the records it was the Babangida regime that led Nigeria into the OIC and not Buhari’s. I see Buhari as an individual who takes his commitment to his God seriously, which has made him the morally sound individual he is. Will such an individual not differ from the occultic leaders this nation has contended with since 1999 till date? Some claim that Buhari and Bakare have essentially the same temperament and would disagree on National policies. Such people should understand that the choice of leaders and their deputies in public offices has never been based on temperament but competence. The office and duties of a president differs from that of his vice: so there certainly will be no clashes. Our older folks continue to harp on the trite argument that the north has led Nigeria for 29 years with nothing to show for it. They should be told that the South has also led the nation for the past 12 years with much less to show for it. It doesn’t matter where the individual comes from what this nation needs is good governance and we should be committed to voting that person we are sure will deliver it to us, regardless of where he comes from. The same thing holds for the religion argument: public office is a secular office and our constitution is a secular one – NOBODY CAN ISLAMIZE NIGERIA. And Buhari has no such agenda. By the way, was it not under a sleeping Obasanjo that the Sharia law was institutionalized in some northern states? We should ask if OBJ is Christian or a Muslim? The answer tells us that good governance has nothing to do with the religion of those who govern. Lastly, for those who claim a Christian preacher like Bakare should not be hobnobbing with a Muslim umer like Buhari, such people should be told that in public office, individuals work for the progress of the society regardless of their religion. These two men are coming in to serve their nation, and from their lives and testimony one can tell that it would be a sacrifice for them and not a pleasure ride.

The Congress for Progressive Change is earnest about bringing positive change to the Nigerian populace. I urge everyone who has endeavored to read this article to vote for the Buhari/Bakare ticket for presidency come April 2011, and you would not regret it. God bless you and thank you very much - Deji.
