Falsehood may have run millions of miles but truth catches and overtakes it in a minute Mrs Wigwe=PDP Mr Wigwe=Nigeria |
The president's leadership style/acumen/results gives us a right to know his IQ. except he has something to hide. |
That is an indictement on the president of this nation. Nevertheless I fully second the motion. |
Like I said nobody can win an argument here wit likes Chimonie Is there any1 who workd inside SNG wit an answer? |
@Chimonie I have followed Tunde Bakare's life and teachings since 1998 when I became a christian and I can state categorically that that man is a man of truth and means what he says, while saying what he means. One of the things I discovered about him is that he someone whom the world unfortunately labels 'living as the Spirit leads'. He does he things as he is sincerely led of the Spirit. For example the theme of the Jan' 2010 protest 'Enough is Enough' was the title of a message he preached mid 2004. It took him another 6 years to again use that theme for a mass protest. Today everyone is saying 'enough is enough', even the NLC, that where unseen in the Jan' 2010 protest. It could only have been God who would ochestrate such a well planned and effective protest through a man who dared to be led of the Spirit. Where I am going to is the issue of this man sincerity, on whether the SNG was a means to Bakare's political end or not. I firmly say no. He was led by God's Spirit into it. How? Like we all know Tunde Bakare was one of Buhari's harshest critics. From his words he along with members of the SNG met with leading political figures in the PDP, ACN, CPC, etc. They were looking for some certain minimums in the party's manifesto and style, like internal democracy, manifesto, etc. He said that of all of them, only Buhari's CPC met this minimum. He spoke of an incident of how he met Ribadu in London and both of them had a long talk in the latter's car for hours. Still he was not convinced of Ribadu. He was later to come out publicly to declare his support for Buhari. By Dec 2010/Jan 2011, the SNG began working at an alliance btw the ACN and CPC. The alliance talk broke down. This was when Buhari resorted to Bakare for his running mate, for which Bakare at first took up reluctanctly. It took the like of this The Sun Newspaper Editor, to write an article @ 'Run Bakare Run'. After careful consultation bakare took up the challenge and the rest is history today. I maintain that good man did not have a preconceived plan of running as running mate to Buhari, atleast based on his messages and what I know of him from his lifesyle. I only asked this question 'where is Save Nigeria Group' because Bakare hardly mentions it in his messages I listen to on the internet. But from what many of written here I harner that when GEJ could not bribe the key leaders of the group, he then infiltrated there ranks and bought them over to himself. And typical of Bakare, rather than joining issues with those guys he left the thing for them. Like most discusses on NL one can never win an argument. You can only make your point as resonbaly as possible and hope that some are convinced. Tunde Bakare formed the save nigeria group as God led him to save this country from great evil. He did his bit and probabaly felt he could go further in helping by running fro elective position. But the people or is it the PDP felt otherwise and we've LOST the chance of a life time. GOD SAVE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA. |
More expenses? Sure. But its a worthy investment. Better than waking up at 70, all gray, dying and miserably alone. |
Thanks kobo & egift for d links Its suprisin Bakare didnt mention it on Pulpit May God deliver 4m GEJ & hungry Nigerians |
The SNG moving out en-masse on the street of Abuja to demonstrate the nation situation in January 2010 was so effective and no one has any reason to think they wont last. That singular action saved this nation from only what eternity can tell us. Bakare opting for public office is ok for some to leave but what I cannot understand is any body disowning the convener, Bakare. I really do hope they find their voice agian. Amen. Though Tunde Bakare has continued to speak from his pulpit; maybe he is using that to save the nigeria. |
After the elections it seem to me the Save Nigeria Group have gone into the coolers. Where are they? Now I am not looking for medicore and insulting responses. If you really know what is up with the SNG, please provide some response. |
Dangerous Trend One of the blessings of the post military era in Nigeria is that money is made available to the populace. Obasanjo, in seeking to win the people’s favor, at the onset of his administration in 1999, increased salaries of federal civil servants and this spiraled down to State governments, so that unlike the days of my father in the civil service, civil servants are one of the best paid individuals in Nigeria today. The unfortunate thing about that increase is that the government of that day and subsequent ones, never put in modalities to check inflation that such increase would encourage, so that a few years after these salary increase workers are back to square one. Notwithstanding these facts there is so much money making the rounds in Nigeria today and although we have to contend with inflation, there are those who are enjoying it to the fullest. Some of those enjoying great wealth today are Christians and the Christian church. I know my brethren would say it is the blessing of the Lord, and I agree with them. I am a fellow partaker in these blessings and I desire more. However, my concern here is with a dangerous trend I see among Christian folks. The truth is that if Christians follow the tenets of the bible that include hard work, honesty, perseverance, faithfulness, hope, etc, and apply basic Christian work ethics as discussed by Paul in Colossian 3:23-25, they are bound to “make it” in life. The dangerous trend I see among Christian folks is everyone building his/her own citadel, ensuring our own security and that of our family, ensuring that our children attend the best of schools, driving the latest cars in town and really not giving a damn about what happens to our fellow Nigerians, except that we partake in some social generosity that cost us very little. Maybe we should again remind ourselves of what our calling is. Someone will say we are called to go into the world to preach the gospel and making disciples for Jesus. Well, the world has heard this gospel and it is making little sense to them when they compare it with the way Christians live it out. From what I see of every nation that has endured times of difficulty, Christians in those nations have been part of those who helped see their compatriots through hardship into the prosperity they enjoy today. In the beginning of the 20th Century when Russia was taken over by communist government and every kind of religion outlawed (except those loyal to the State), Christian folks paid the price for the liberation of that nation. The same with China, South Africa and communist Europe. Today when the church in those nations tell the unbelieving their Jesus saves, they understand because they have witnessed Christian leaders stand up to enemies of the people and fight to see their nation liberated. Our calling, as Christians, is to be a light to the nations, beginning with our Jerusalem (Nigeria) and to help dispel darkness from the polity. Despite the great wealth in the nation today, there is a large number of people living in abject poverty in the land. It is the prevalence of the poor in the land that is the darkness Jesus has called believers to dispel with the candle light of prosperity He has so graciously given us individually. A friend who schooled in the UK told me that it seem everybody in that nation is of the middle class. Why, because the tax regime will humble the rich, while social security will exalt the poor. So everyone find himself in the middle; and you should not be surprised if you find the Mayor of your city taking the same bus with you to the office on a Monday morning. In Nigeria, the gap between the rich and the poor is so wide and the Christian rich are among those widening the gap. For example, Chief Igbenidion and Chief Afe Babalola build universities for the elite and they claim education is not cheap; that is understandable because they don’t profess to be born again. But Born-Again Christian leaders do the same and say “if you think education is expensive, try ignorance”. They forget that the mission schools that the missionaries bequeathed to us would never have done our fathers any good if they had made education that expensive too. Karl Marx warns that when the gap between the rich and the poor is too wide, society begins to encourage such insecurity that the rich themselves will not be able to contend with it. I call Christians today to join in the arduous task of nation building because all is not well with Nigeria. Those who felt they voted in a Christian government should think again, because there is nothing Christian about this present government. Corruption is as rife in this government as it has been under those who did not claim to be Christians. The spate of insecurity in the land is alarming and this government has developed a reputation for talking and doing nothing. One of the greatest misfortune of voting in the Jonathan government is that Christians have lost their critical voices since it is believed they supported his re-election. I warn Nigerian Christians that God would hold us responsible for keeping quiet when all signal showed that Nigeria was heading towards becoming a failed state. History will have it on record that the Church kept mute when we were heading for the brinks and that our leading pastors preferred to wine and dine with a clueless leadership. Nigeria need men who would speak truth to power and would hold government accountable. We need men who would not settle for a mediocre electoral process but demand a higher standard while aiming for perfection. For a mediocre electoral process can only install a mediocre leadership. The church needs leaders who would transcend religion and ethnicity, and support politicians based on integrity, soundness, and impeccable record of service to the nation. We must do everything and support everyone that has the good of this nation at heart, and not reduce national discuss to base issues of religion and ethnicity. As I bring this essay to a close I wish to refer my readers to a burning national issue at present: Non Interest Banking. The Central Bank of Nigeria, headed by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (a Muslim), proposed this type of Banking. Many Christians have opposed the idea, in fact a pastor held a press conference in Delta State advising the CBN to shelve the idea. Their argument is that it will allow for Islamic Banking and that Nigeria is a secular state. The CBN has come out to say that Non Interest Banking is not only for Islamic Banking alone but for all kinds of non-interest banking, as the name connotes. What I see here is a tendency to discourage a laudable idea and venture because of religion. Normally Banks functions primarily by the interest they make off their customers. Now if anyone is ready to bank my money (and keep it safe) without charging (undue) interest on it, I will be glad, regardless of whether it is Muslim or not. We all know what Banks today in Nigeria have turned to all in the name of over-charging customers, and unfortunately Christians were the leading culprit. Now Muslim want to show us that it is possible to run a bank without charging interest and we are scared. If we fail to be the salt of the earth as we aught to be, will Christ not raise up to stones to do it? If we are not careful some leading figures in the church will prevail on our “Christian” president and a very good idea will be sacrificed on the alter of religion; and I am sure Nigeria will be “moving forward” that way. These times demand wisdom; they demand Christians avoid a dangerous trend. It demands we join in nation building by deploying our time, treasures and talents to move Nigeria forward. It demands we come out of our comfort zone and lay down our lives so that others may live. It demands we show true Christian love by helping our neighbor enjoy the good life God has so graciously given to us. It demands we share; it demand we spend and be spent for the liberation of this nation. Nigeria has been delivered from British colonialist only to find herself in the hands of these neo-colonialist. May history record that the Christian church joined in the liberation of our dear nation from the hands of these colonial masters and not as those who sold their heritage for a mere pot of pottage. - Deji Yesufu. |
