WebmastersRe: Cpanel Vs Plesk ? by DualCore1: 11:38pm On Feb 24, 2010
cPanel's license is too expensive, if you run a dedicated server. The VPS license is quite cheap.

Once, I got a dedicated server and the cpanel license was close to the same amount of the server lease.
Felt it was just crazy, I reinstalled the server and put DirectAdmin whose license was going for about 9 pounds. I used that for a while and it was just okay.

What deceives people in cPanel is all the "candy" it comes with. "candy" most people will never even use. That's what clients like anyway, seeing many controls on their panels. And I love the part where they then call and be like . . . "what does this thing do? what does that thing do?" grin

When I started commercial webhosting, I used DirectAdmin on one server and the other had plesk. Both were going good until I had to shift accounts between 2 servers. That's when I saw the good side of having cPanel running on all boxes.

Bottom line: The only reason I have seen so far to go for cPanel is the way it handles account backups and transfers. No other control panel does that better.

U guys dont get it. I mean which one gives more information, which one is more POPULAR?.Jeez.
Call up 10 of your friends and tell them to look at the thread topic and just the first post of the thread. Ask them what their reply to the thread will be.

Don't bother telling us your results, keep them to yourself as they will serve their purpose within you.

How you can come here and just shout "google or youtube" and expect everyone to think its comparison based on popularity you are talking about, remains a mystery that will never be solved in my head.

Your "google or youtube" can be compared based on functionality, usability, popularity, accessibility, user experience e.t.c. You single out just "popularity" in your mind and expect us to add, in addition to our already doomed lives as geeks, mind reading. Spare me!

Cheers again dude.

For public hosting, cPanel is best. . . no question. Nothing beats it at the moment.

For private hosting you can go for plesk, directadmin or webmin.

unfortunately the best way i learn is by hands on training.
What I think you mean by this is that you want to be taught by someone.
This is a limitation you have set for yourself. It is a limitation only you can remove and I strongly suggest you take it off.

Web design and development is more of a DIY (do it yourself) thing and that is how most of us here have learned and are still learning.
If you are waiting for someone to sit with you and teach you <?php echo "this is how to echo in php" ?>, you're on a long thing!

Fall in love with the resources you have online and make endless love to them. When you have questions, feel free to ask anywhere.

Cant remember too well but i think MS XP uses 5 blocks and each block can hold 5 characters. That brings it to 25 characters in all.
