Webmasters / Re: SPC 4 Installation Ioncube Loader Error by DualCore1: 8:35pm On Sep 03, 2014
Jackieriel:
I just said "Encoder for PHP 5 and cannot run under PHP 5.5..." and u are taking about downgrading I think it need loader 5.5
If you think you know the solution, why ask for help?

Save all of us some time and go and download an older version of xamp. Uninstall your present version of xamp and install the older version.

I am providing you a download link below because I had the same problem in the past and downgraded.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Windows/1.8.2/xampp-win32-1.8.2-6-VC9-installer.exe/download?use_mirror=netcologne

The reason most script developers are not up'ing their scripts to php 5.5 is because MySQL is depracated. However it doesn't make all the sense because MySQL will still be supported, just deprecated. Also, they can use PDO.

Webmasters / Re: What Is The Average Monthly Rate Of A Freelance Web Developer? by DualCore1: 2:22am On Aug 30, 2014
dhtml: I am considering retiring officially from freelancing actually.
I retired September last year, in preps for the fulltime Iyawo project which I took on 4 months back tongue

It was interesting and challenging but its not fun to create apps for people and you get to see their corporate names credited for your apps while you are expected to remain silent based on their NDAs.

I think its wiser to spend time developing your own thing. The hardwork begins to pay off after a while, especially if you have developed a couple of things.
Webmasters / Re: What Is The Average Monthly Rate Of A Freelance Web Developer? by DualCore1: 2:09am On Aug 30, 2014
We no dey fight. Its possible we are looking at things from very different angles. The web development market is saturated, it is overcrowded no thanks to Suresh, Raj and Gupta. A freelancer is different from an onsite fulltime developer who most likely has a running contract with an agreed salary per annum and other benefits. A freelancer usually has a monthly contract running and that's basically it.

We are talking about the average a freelancer earns, not the highest a php developer can earn.
We are talking about hiring rates, not how much a developer can make from the sale of his application or script.
Webmasters / Re: Which Ecommerce Php Framework To Use by DualCore1: 1:05am On Aug 30, 2014
khadri: Opencart will be good to start from
From the little I know about Opencart, it isn't a framework, it is a script.

OP, I have used CodeIgniter and Laravel for some projects. I will recommend CodeIgniter for anyone who wants to try a framework which is both strong and has a moderate learning curve. In the process of trying out frameworks, I saw I had no real use for them (solo coder) and was better of with my custom framework which keeps getting richer and more compact with each passing project.

Where did you get this fake stats from Programmers earn higher than that..
Personal experience, unlike where you got yours from (online job postings you very likely do not qualify to get hired for).

Programmers earn higher than that, yea. The person who creates Wordpress plugins and the person who creates 3D games for PS4... shay they are both referred to as programmers... check their payslips and see the difference.
Webmasters / Re: What Is The Average Monthly Rate Of A Freelance Web Developer? by DualCore1: 9:45am On Aug 29, 2014
In the global scene, a freelance PHP developer is usually paid between 8 - 16 USD per hour and is usually expected to work for 40 hours per week from his remote location. So that's about 1,280 - 2,560 USD per month. Some employers may choose to track work hours with tools like Peerdrum.

Webmasters / Re: Mozilla Firebug by DualCore1: 12:35pm On Aug 12, 2014
MrAnonymous: There's no need for any exploring. Why should there even be a possibility of it happening?
This would mean than anyone who can lay their hands on firebug can edit your code.

UNLESS it had an ftp login feature (which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist). Besides firebug only displays HTML output, I'm not sure anyone would want their full PHP file to be replaced with ordinary HTML.
I think the OP is referring to saving changes he has made on Firebug to the local html and css files resident within his development environment, not files located remotely. It is under this assumption that I made the post above.
Webmasters / Re: Mozilla Firebug by DualCore1: 12:42pm On Aug 11, 2014
I haven't explored the possibilities of saving Firebug changes (it may be possible but its not a feature I have had any need for). When you make a change in Firebug, look at the line number where you made the change and the filename and go and replicate the change by editing the actual file.

Get an account on www.myus.com

Add the US address you will be given as your default shipping address on Ebay. You can check your MyUS account inbox to see all the items that they have received on your behalf and you can ship them all at once using DHL or Fedex. I have never used Fedex, I use DHL and it gets to Nigeria in 4 working days. I shipped out a couple of items I got from Ebay (in my MyUS account) on Friday morning using DHL and this morning its gotten to Lagos and has been cleared by customs, will be delivered tomorrow.

P.S: MyUS accepts credit cards and wire transfer.

Webmasters / Re: Problem With Gigalayer: I Need Help by DualCore1: 4:56pm On Jul 31, 2014
Godwinsilas: I paid for hosting plan with Gigalayer since on the 11 of last month, i installed my script it was not coming up all you just see is white page, i went for free hosting install the same script it was working fine. I have made alot of complain but no solution.
Right now my site is down because of free hosting and am planning to use foreign host, what should i do?

The part in bold is not clear. I do not believe you have contacted Gigalayer and they have told you there isn't a solution. So the question is, have you contacted them? What was their response. You may want to consider providing transcripts of all the communication you have had with them regarding this issue.

Do not be amazed that the same script works well on your free host. It doesn't mean Gigalayer has a problem. They are running on different server configurations.

On to the other matter of sharing your cPanel details, do so at your own risk. Some people are willing to help but as usual with cPanel there are many fixes to a problem and some of these fixes won't really fix things so it requires a trial by error approach. It would be too much stress for anyone who wants to help you to tell you to "try this....try that" so they just ask for the cPanel details so they can try to fix things the cPanel way, "automagically".

That said, there's not much a person can do with the cPanel candy. Personally I don't offer to help fix any linux related issue for anyone if they cannot provide root access to the box. It takes some trust to hand over that kind of data to someone you don't know.
Webmasters / Re: How Do I Read Through Huge PHP Code Samples? by DualCore1: 10:27am On Jul 21, 2014
Reading source codes to learn PHP is like standing on the road watching drivers to learn how to drive. You will end up learning bad driving from the taxi drivers and impatient road users. Studying source codes as a beginner, you may copy bad coding practices that will be hard for you to break later on in your pro years.

Learn PHP by reading the official documentation written by the people behind the language (http://php.net/manual/en/). In my opinion and experience it is a waste of time reading PHP books to learn PHP as most of such books are either poorly written or are just made up of excerpts from the PHP manual.

When you are done with the PHP documentation (and the user comments in them), you will be grounded to take on any entry-level project. When you take on a project, study code snippets of similar projects if you are unsure of how to go about a function or problem.

Last bullet: Use google.com extensively.

I think it would be nice to give credit to the designer(s) of the admin interface (https://wrapbootstrap.com/theme/smartadmin-responsive-webapp-WB0573SK0), so you can have people here focus their reviews on the functionality of the application which you have said you have developed with your team.

You and your team have done some hardwork in setting up a functional system of this nature. I hope you get reviews to push your work even further.

You may be having problems with relative and absolute URLs. You have not provided enough information. What is the URL to the site.

Always provide specific details of a problem to get specific solutions. Its a time saver.

OXCUBA: bro I feel your pain ..... we are all humans .... mistakes are bond to happen.... no body is ''Mr know it all''

There is a difference between mistakes and carelessness. I think putting the word "mistake" in my first post was a wrong choice. A mistake is when you do something you don't know you shouldn't do. Carelessness is when you do something you know you shouldn't do.

This is not a mistake made by Nairaland, it is carelessness.

oskaaay:
That is true....but can you help with safer mediums to save the backups outside like mail etc....Please list them if you do not mind because other webmasters are reading......
THANKS!!!
The most important question is: What should I backup?
Most sites are dynamic today, such dynamism is powered by the database. So a key aspect of your backup should be your database. There is a tendency to think that we will never need a backup so we become careless with the issue. Personally I am too busy to be running backups manually, well thanks to cron jobs.

A simple script can be used to make remote backups of your files and databases. When placed in a cron job, this script can run hourly, daily, weekly without your attending to it. You may choose to have such backups packaged and sent to your mailbox or any other hosting account you have.

The key thing is that there should not be a single point of failure between your main site's location and its backup location.
Put simply, if you have your site in Port Harcourt, put the backup in Sokoto.

What serious organisation or web master keeps backups of a server on the same server? Why are they called backups?

Sadly its a common trend and its a shame that people who you expect should know better still make very silly mistakes intentionally mostly because they have this feeling that it wont happen to them....until it happens.

Webmasters / Re: Please Will Glo Bolt Modem Work For Hostgator Cpanel ? by DualCore1: 7:30am On Jan 06, 2014
Airtel and MTN have issues with cPanel login authentication on some servers.

On the part of the administrator, setting IP validation to "loose" or "disabled" will lessen the problem of logging in. I don't recommend disabling it as it may pose a security threat.

On the part of the user, Etisalat is known to work well without these issues. Please do NOT use MTN, it is highly unstable.
If you do not want to change your network, use a trusted (and paid) VPN service that gives you a dedicated IP.
