are u sure u work in a big 4huh Cos from what you wrote you are a manager. You must have ex colleagues there you can ask.
Yes I am sure lol. There are some big 4 firms in Nigeria where the total package of an assistant manager is above 10m (at least I am sure of 2). Yes I have sought opinion of some colleagues that left like 4 years back cos those ones have more experience than those that left last year and this year. And the advice from most of them is to wait till I become a manager to negotiate for something higher cos working on an employer sponsored Visa has it shortfalls. I was told the sponsored visa is peculiar to an employer and if you want to resign and remain in the country, you must get another employer who is immediately ready to sponsor you. So most of the employers take the opportunity to place u on something like a permanent contract where the salary barely increases till when the visa is due for renewal. That's why PR status is still the best. An employee sponsored visa will further boost your PR application though.

Every time I see this on social media, I cringe! He's not spending naira in Australia and as such cannot used as a harbinger to relocate. This cut across moving from a developing country to a developed country. Even a developed place like Switzerland get eyebrows raised due to its high cost of living for citizens of other developed countries let alone Nigeria.

@DubaiPrince: From my little knowledge about the cost of living in Sydney (almost everyone complains about the cost of living), it won't be easy for a family of five to live comfortably (at least using your current standard) on A$85000. To live at your current standard, either madam stays in Nigeria or work in Australia. If you really desire it, it should be for the aim of PR then citizenship which will require great sacrifices. Looking at it further, madam staying in Nigeria is the best while you slug it in Australia and achieve PR status (my opinion) but it is your decision to make. Look at it from a five-year projection.

Best wishes in your decision.
Thanks a lot! I will ignore the offer for now. Cos madam no even wan understand. Lol. Me and my husband things. We will just do any of all these pronvincial nominations in Canada and Australia for us to be flying in occasionally. Maybe Then, madam may consider that I work there alone for some time or we are lucky enough to both have jobs. cos truth be told, I don't want to leave My Job for an environment where myself and/or family won't be comfortable. I have sought the opinion of my pastor who is a father figure and his advice is in sync with what most people have said here. I can accurately forecast a 5 year plan here in Nigeria. It's not all gloom and doom here but what the future holds with the way our resources are managed leaves one with no choice than to have a back up in form of a second nationality. Thank you all and God bless.

with 10M per annum in Naija, you are a big man.... if you move to Aus for that salary you mentioned, You probably won't be able to live the way you are used to... And if your wife is currently a stay-at-home mum, she might have to start working.. in short, your comfort will reduce...so its up to you to decide whether a brighter future for your kids + more security and peace of mind in Australia outweighs the relatively easy life in Nigeria on that kind of salary..

If I was in your position though, I wouldn't move. i would process permanent residence in both Canada and Australia, fly over, activate it and hold it in case things go to hell in Nigeria one day, but I wouldn't actually relocate for anything below 120k. .... The cost of living is triple (or more) the cost of living in Nigeria, It doesn't make much economic sense to move for just Double the salary.

But hey, its just my opinion.
Thanks a lot. I want to understand that 'holding it in' part more. Does it mean once I get PR, I can just fly in, spend like a month and come back my PR status is secured? Let's forget citizenship now.

Thanks a lot for the responses received so far. They have been valid in one way or the other. The truth is that I wouldn't have bothered if i needed to take the offer and relocate alone. However, from my search on the internet on rent, transportation etc and using the Australian income tax calculator, I have the strong feeling that my standard of living will drop significantly and living life there will be a struggle with my family. It may be eased a bit if my wife gets a job there but I don't know how easy and how soon she would be able to secure one. Infact, it pays for her to work now as the last born is not up to a year and I heard day care there is crazy which I don't even think I can afford.

Please i need a candid advice. I am married with three kids (5,3 and 1). I stay in Lagos and my salary is about 10 million per annum with bright chances this will increase yearly in terms of salary reviews and promotions as I work with a big four. In short, I can currently afford to send my kids to good schools and take care of my family's basic needs (2 cars and have a building project ongoing). Would it be advisable to take a job offer in Australia (most likely sydney) for 80 to 85k AUD per annum pre-tax and live comfortably there with my family?
From my findings on quora, it's looking like it may not be a wise decision to take the Australian offer but I need advice from Nigerians that currently stay in Australia on this forum.

Hello ford users,

Welcome to ford talk forum. With my experience using ford explorer and other ford products spanning 6years now has been an amazing one. It's quite surprising whenever I hear friends talk about common problems of ford and so on. The truth is, this is one of United States' best vehicular technology. Don't get me wrong, there may be problems but I can assure you such problems are never discouraging. Therefore this forum is dedicated basically for ford vehicle users of different models and specifications so I can share experiences of rare and common problems of ford cars, jeeps and proffer solutions and advises will be given. So folks, feel free to ask questions or seek advise on maintenance as am very ready to deal with this issues with no cost.
Thanks.
Thanks op, i have seriously considering getting a ford edge or explorer but the issue of mechanics availability, price and availability of spare part keeps discouraging me. i know American Vehicles are generally rugged. please further convince me on this. thanks
Car TalkRe: Automatic Transmission And Gear Repairs In Nigeria by dubaiprince: 7:19am On Jul 12, 2016
Hello house, my car started vibrating as a result of a bad ignition coil. This was changed and it stopped. Now, when I start my vehicle and apply too much pressure on the throttle when hitting the road, the engine goes off. It starts without hesitation. What could be the cause of the engine going off? Gear problem as gear oil is kind of brownish? Spark plugs or coil not properly fixed or something with the gas pedal? Car is a Toyota matrix 2003. Thanks
Car TalkRe: Car Talk Chat Room by dubaiprince: 12:19pm On Jul 08, 2016
Hello house, After servicing my car (Matrix 2003), I noticed that the car was vibrating seriously, I went back to my mechanic to check the plugs, he said the issue was not with the plugs (though he recommended they should be changed) but one of the ignition coils which was bad and recommended I replace it. This was done and the vibration stopped (he replaced the plugs with tokunbo plugs). but after this was done, I noticed that if I exert full pressure on the throttle, the engine switches off while in motion though all the light on the dash board, the stereo and ac will still be on. What could be the cause of this?

Thanks.

PoliticsCooking Gas Price Rises By 45% by dubaiprince(op): 7:50am On Jun 03, 2016
The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly known as cooking gas, has jumped by 45 per cent in less than a week amid scarcity of the product.

Our correspondent gathered that the price of 20 metric tonnes (about 35,000 litres) of the LPG, which was N2.4m last week Wednesday, had increased to N3.5m by Monday this week.

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Association of LPG Marketers, Mr. Bassey Essien, while addressing journalists in Lagos on Thursday, decried the emergence of price instability in the domestic LPG market, which he said was caused by delays in berthing of the LPG bearing vessels at the terminals.

He said, “Recently, we have been contending with the issue of price instability because a couple of people have hijacked the government’s good gesture of installing the domestic scheme. Under the scheme, gas will be readily available in the major terminals in Lagos. When there are no supply shortages, there will be a level playing ground in terms of competition and pricing.

“Today, what we are having is the other way round. Last week Wednesday, gas was selling for N2.4m per 20 metric tonnes. On Thursday, it rose to N2.6m and on Monday this week, we got a text that it would sell for N3.5m. We feel that if nothing is done, it will go to N4m,”

Essien added that increasing the price of a 12.5kg cylinder to about N3,500 from less than N2,500 would frustrate the efforts made to encourage the use of LPG in the country.

The Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, is tasked with the responsibility of managing the berthing of the LPG vessels at the terminals.

Essien said most of the terminals had been starved of gas, causing a near monopoly in the LPG market as only a private terminal was able to receive product, adding “The gas is not imported. It came from Bonny. So, why the sudden jump in price?

“We feel it is exploitation of Nigerians. Why are the vessels not berthing in other terminals? If it is a deliberate scheme, why should they not berth in other terminals? If those vessels berth in those terminals, then definitely there will be price stability.”

He said with increased awareness, the consumption of the LPG had increased over the years, buoyed by the government’s intervention by mandating the Nigeria LNG Limited to allocate a sizable portion of its LPG to the domestic market.

The NALPGAM executive secretary said the intervention brought about a reduction in the cost of cooking gas from N7,000 in 2007 to less than N3,000 per 12.5kg cylinder presently.

“The intervention was in line with government’s effort to build a healthy Nigeria and significantly stimulate the development of domestic usage of cooking gas,” he stated.

Essien said the NLNG had made commitment to delivering 250,000 tonnes of the LPG into the Nigerian market every year.

Christianity EtcRe: Is Tithe Card Necessary Like We Can Find In My Church? by dubaiprince: 10:48am On May 08, 2016
Tithing card I guess is basically used to keep record to prevent pilferage on the part of those counting. Monies without cards are recorded under anonymous tithers which stands a risk of being understated. It's just a pity churches now use tithe cards to monitor people's finances. My own take.

Car TalkClapping Sound From Engine by dubaiprince(op): 12:45pm On Feb 24, 2016
Hello, This is my first time of posting on this section. I got a toks Toyota Matrix September Last year but I started using it fully in November. I noticed that when start the vehicle, it gives a grinding sound at start up and the sound stops immediately, then after driving for a while I hear a clapping sound like a flat metal plate hitting another flat metal plate around the passenger side of the engine. this clapping sound occurs at interval i.e the sound comes on for a while and goes off for a while and this only occurs when the car's transmission is engaged i.e on D When on P, the engine sounds normal. What could be the cause of the clapping sound? could it be as a result of the engine oil I use (20w50) or a Timing Chain Issue?

Gurus in the house. Kindly Help.

Thank you all for your comments. They have been helpful. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Whatever happens, its a win win situation for me as I have just been upgraded where I work currently and salary review is also in progress. I only need this new job because of exposure and the great boost it will give my career path. The pay is lower than what I currently earn. I will get back to this forum on the outcome.

Well, at that level it isnt good but its not abnormal enough to cause panic. You have to work on it. Look for the Cause and try to eliminate it. It shouldnt really affect your chance of getting the job but if your employer wants a worker who can withstand stress ie if job is full of pressure they may waNt to look again. Anyway it also depends on how fit the doctor says you are in his report sheet.

Good luck my friend all the best.
Thanks so much
