State for the Commonwealth, Lord Tariq Ahmad, has demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime explain to the British government how it repatriated Igbo secessionist leader Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya. The request followed a debate by the UK Parliament on July 7, during which British lawmakers discussed the UK government’s assessment of Kenya’s role in Mr Kanu’s arrest. Lord Alton of Liverpool raised the issue at the House of Lords, seeking to address the controversies surrounding the transfer of Mr Kanu to Nigeria against his will. “Lord Alton of Liverpool to ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of (1) the alleged role of the government of Kenya in the detention and alleged mistreatment of Nigerian activist Nnamdi Kanu, (2) the circumstances surrounding the transfer of Mr Kanu to Nigeria against his will, and (3) of any assistance being provided to him by the High Commission in Abuja. HL1665,” a parliamentary schedule seen by Peoples Gazette stated. In response to the parliament’s debate, Mr Ahmad said, “We are seeking clarification from the Nigerian Government about the circumstances of the arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu.” Mr Ahmad also confirmed claims by the British High Commission in Abuja that the UK government was providing consular assistance for the IPOB leader. “The UK has requested consular access to Mr Kanu from the Nigerian government, and we stand ready to provide consular assistance,” he maintained. While Mr Buhari’s regime has refused to make public how it repatriated the IPOB leader from Kenya, the UK government had clarified that Mr Kanu travelling with a British passport was not arrested within its shores. IPOB had also accused Kenya’s special police force of arresting, detaining, and torturing Mr Kanu before the authorities handed him over to the Nigerian government. But Kenya, through its high commissioner to Nigeria, Wilfred Machage, refuted the claim. According to him, the East African country was not involved in the whole process. But findings by The Guardian, a UK newspaper, indicated that he was arrested in Kenya, as Mr Kanu’s UK passport remains in Kenya. He was said to have entered Kenya this year with his British passport on a visa expiring in June, the newspaper reported. Also, Kingsley Kanu, a brother to the British-Nigerian citizen, claimed that they spoke over the telephone a few days before his arrest in June. https://gazettengr.com/buhari-regime-should-tell-us-how-nnamdi-kanu-was-repatriated-from-kenya-uk-foreign-minister/

Tokyo Olympics: Missing Ugandan athlete captured on CCTV The athlete left a note at his hotel saying he wanted to work in Japan before buying a train ticket to Nagoya. NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA • JULY 19, 2021 Julius Ssekitoleko Julius Ssekitoleko The Ugandan athlete who went missing in Japan on July 16, after failing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, has been spotted at Nagoya Station in central Japan by CCTV, news agency Kyodo reported on Monday citing a police source. Uganda’s Olympic delegation said on Friday that weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko had been registered as missing from a team training camp in Izumisano, some 200 kilometres south-west of Nagoya. He is being sought by the police. Kyodo cited Izumisano officials as saying the athlete left a note at his hotel saying he wanted to work in Japan before buying a train ticket to Nagoya. Beatrice Ayikoru, head of the Ugandan delegation, said the 20-year-old was supposed to fly home on Tuesday, adding the team would cooperate with authorities in the search. The Ugandan team arrived in Japan in June but only started training two weeks ago. This is because they tested positive twice for coronavirus despite every member being vaccinated. https://gazettengr.com/tokyo-olympics-missing-ugandan-athlete-captured-on-cctv/

PRAY FOR BUBU KEE YOU DIA |
national leader, has called on Nigerians to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari to enjoy a better Nigeria. The ex-governor of Lagos also asked Muslims to dedicate themselves to greater adherence and obedience to the compassionate and spiritually nourishing commands of God. Mr Tinubu, in a statement on Monday in Lagos, urged the people not to forget the poor and vulnerable among them. He encouraged the Muslim faithful never to forget the reason for Eid-el- Kabir and to reach out to give solace and succour to those unable to help themselves. “I extend my warmest greetings to our Muslim brothers and sisters in Nigeria and around the world. We give utmost gratitude to Almighty Allah SWT for His munificent blessings and abiding love for all mankind. “To be a good Muslim is to be a caring and generous human being; therefore, show brotherly concern and compassion to all,” he said. Mr Tinubu also said the country’s challenges called upon all to adhere even more closely to God’s commands. By doing that, he said Nigerians might overcome the challenges and continue to build a just and prosperous society destined for all. He called on Nigerians to remember Mr Buhari, the governors, and other leaders in their prayers so that they could continue to confront and surmount the challenges facing the country. “By so doing, together we can enjoy the benefits of a better Nigeria. This Eid, we must, therefore, beseech almighty Allah to protect the weak, feed the poor, and give us the courage, wisdom to subdue and defeat those who would do violence and destruction to the innocent. “We pray for our gallant soldiers and other security agents confronting these agents of evil people. We pray for the unity and stability of this country. Once again, I wish Muslims and indeed all Nigerians a happy Eid-el-Kabir,” said Mr Tinubu. https://gazettengr.com/pray-for-buhari-to-enjoy-better-nigeria-tinubu/
