dexpendable:
Happy new year to all Nairalanders, we hope for plenty naira in our pockets this new year...
Today is a holiday, and I want to write an article on this our continent Africa through our dear country Nigeria.

If you ask, " What's our problem in Africa" most people will say, oh, the Europeans, oh this oh that... The point is that we as Africans never take blame on ourselves. Yes, we were enslaved, but has any body asked the question, why were we enslaved, what were the factors that the Europeans saw that got us enslaved? We were gullible, as Africans, as Nigerians, we were gullible in the past... Take for example, the Europeans came and deceived us, I mean who are the kind of people that can be deceived, that can be found gullible at any point in time? Yes, we are the ones, we Africans.. Where does all these begin from? We are our problems, everyone in Africa.. The truth is, as an African, how do we see ourselves? Who are we to the world? Are we really inferior to the whites? What are we capable of doing? Are we risk takers like the whites?

Naturally, we have a particular perception about ourselves, "We come to life to enjoy whatever life has to offer us, and when we are old, we start seeking respect and later die, and the cycle continues like that", but who are the whites? The whites are the bossy people, who can treat the blacks like animals, who can enslave the blacks, why? Because we see them as "LIFE", and we want to enjoy whatever they have for us. Why do blacks in the diaspora succeed? This is what I call the average success, I'm going to use myself as an example now....

"When I was young, probably in my primary school days, I had this uncle who was staying in the United Kingdom, and to be honest, I saw him as a god, even as a small child, why?
1. I saw him as someone who could provide almost anything I request for..
2. I saw him as someone who was closer to everything "oyinbo" I use to see on T.V then ...
I would request for things like playstation, psps, R.C planes[Cos I'm an aviation freak] and all sorts, this things where not available then like they are now in Nigeria.. My parents where rich, we where living comfortably but this my god must be worshipped.... That's the African mind.., anybody that we see who is at an higher level than us is seen as a demi-god.... Your boss for instance, can do and un-do, our Governors e.t.c and this is why when any of us, I mean any Afrcian who has the opportunity to be in power, almost if not completely misuses the power..
It must be remembered that the Europeans that were said to have enslaved us and caused all our problems, where actually the same people who taught us THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS because we have always acted as dummies.... Nigeria for example, do you know that the active rail lines routes in Nigeria today where actually built by the Europeans? Whatever good that have come out of any African country have always had a "White" involvement? Who brought education? Who invented the airplanes? Who brought about the currency?.... Let's quickly look at the top 10 inventions that have changed the world we live in today...
Please edit the title of the post. There is nothing Dark about the continent of Africa. Africans must desist from perpetuating the derogatory terms manufactured by idiotic Europeans.

Ayatullah:
The Palestinians needed only nine(9) votes to sail through for a vote in the UN on their statehood, but president Goodluck became a badluck for the Palestinians when he played the Jewish card.

Nigeria under president Jonathan denied the Palestinian people the crucial 9th vote by abstaining from voting. This is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria as a country that support oppressed people.

Even though Jonathan has been so engrossed with the Jewish state of Israel one will not have expected he will do this to the Palestinian People.

The Palestinians will never forget the day Jonathan led Nigeria to betray their dream of a statehood.

What a shame!
Please consult your history books. The current so-called Palestinian crap is the creation of fascist Arabs and anti-Semitic Europeans. Palestine was divided into two in 1947 - one side for Jew and the other for the Arabs. In fact, Trans-Jordan for Arabs which became independent in 1947 and Israel for the Jews which became independent in 1948. The fascist Arabs including Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi Arabia with the urging of Britain and other European countries declared war on Israel. The so-called West Bank, which is west of River Jordan and known as Judea and Samaria, was captured by the Arabs forces under the command of British Colonel. You should ask yourself why West bank still bear English name instead of Arabic. I must say for the first time Nigerians acted intelligently. What was known as Palestine did not belong to either Jews or Arabs as both lived in the area.

OJUKWU's LETTER TO YORUBAMAN BANJO..."TAKING OUR DESTINIES INTO OUR HANDS"

August 1967

From: The Military Governor, Republic of Biafra, Enugu.

My Dear Victor,

1. For some time now, you and I have been discussing the circumstances that have led to the current and inevitable disintegration of what was the Federation of Nigeria. We have been fully convinced that the aim of the Hausa/Fulani complex has ever been, and will ever remain, the total domination of every other part of what was known as the Federation of Nigeria. It is impossible to forget that the crisis which led to the army take over in January 1966, the coup of the Northern soldiers led by Gowon in July 1966, the wholesale and indiscriminate massacre of the people of what is now Biafra- and, to a less degree, the people of the Mid-West and West, including the Yorubas, were all the direct result of Hausa/Fulani attempt to subjugate and use as tools, the gallant people of Western Nigeria namely the Yorubas. We do not need to remind ourselves of the heavy losses in life and property suffered by the Yoruba people in their fight for justice and freedom during 1965.

2. Sharing.our belief that the people of Yorubaland have a right to live a life of equality and self-respect and justice free of domination and dictatorship from any quarter, you have both identified with the cause of the Biafra struggle for survival and expressed your determination to see the people of Yorubaland freed from Hausa/Fulani domination.
We, the people of Biafra, for our part are willing and have decided to give you and the people of Yorubaland every assistance to achieve your aim.

3. After clearing the whole question with my Executive Council, I, as the Commander in Chief of the Biafran Armed Forces, have decided to place at your disposal Biafran forces, for the liberation of Yorubaland on the following clear conditions:-
(i) You will have nothing to do with the Military Administrator in the Mid-West Territory during your sojourn there prior to your move to the West.
(ii) The willingness and preparedness of Biafra to assist any part of the former Federation of Nigeria wishing and willing to liberate itself from the Hausa/Fulani domination, does not in anyway whatever imply any inclination on her part to compromise her sovereignty or preserve what remains of the defunct Federation of Nigeria. In other words, our sovereignty and break with Nigeria is irrevocable. Nothing must, therefore be said or done by you or any member of the Liberation Army to give a contrary impression.
(iii) Biafra is determined to maintain and safeguard her sovereignty and ensure that her integrity and safety are never again threatened.
(iv) Biafran troops will, after the liberation of the Yorubaland, remain in that territory only for as long as we in Biafra consider it necessary for the Yorubas to consolidate their position and sovereignty against any external threat.
(v) On the liberation of the Yorubaland, you will be appointed as the Military Governor of that territory.
(vi) The liberation of Western Nigeria will be a prelude to the liberation of all Yorubas up to the River Niger and the severance of all connections between the West and the North at Jebba.
(vii) During the period of Biafrans troops’ presence in your territory, all political measures, statements or decrees shall be subject to the approval, in writing by myself or on my authority.
(viii) Should our troops arrive and liberate Lagos, the government of the Republic of Biafra reserves the right to appoint a Military administrator for the territory. Such an Administrator will remain in office until a merger of that territory with Yorubaland is effected by Biafran troops.
(ix) As soon as possible after your appointment as the Military Governor of Western Nigeria and separation of that territory from Nigeria, you and I must meet to discuss:
(a) the duration of stay of Biafran troops in your territory;
(b) the areas and subjects of cooperation between the liberated sovereign states of Western Nigeria, or by what name it may call itself, and Biafra.

4. I do not need to remind you that Biafra regards all Yoruba as friends. As such everything should be done, to ensure the minimum force and loss of life are involved in achieving the objective of liberation.

5. It is essential, in order to avoid misunderstanding or confusion, that all subsequent requests for support be formally made to me by you in writing.

6. Will you please signify in writing, your acceptance of the above conditions so that you may leave for Western Nigeria and lead the army of liberation.

Yours very sincerely,
signed Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu,
Military Governor and Commander in Chief of Biafran Armed Forces

As culled from "A Break in the Silence : Lt. Col. Victor Adebukunola Banjo, pp.66-68, by F. Adetowun Ogunsheye, Spectrum Books, Ibadan, 2001"

While unitary system of government had all resources controlled by the center thereby slowing the growth of the regions. Aguiyi ironsi was. If he and his tribe men that were partakers of the coup really had good intentions for the nation, they won't have abolished the regional government which saw the regions grow due to competition. It is clear that they wanted resources gotten from all the regions for themselves which was why an ibo dictator was made president, who provided a system in which the man at the elm of powers can favour his tribe, hence ibos held many political and official posts, a system the northerners also used to their own advantage. If you doubt me then tell me why you people keep complaining of how the northerners dominate almost every political sector? Ibos and aguiyi ironsi never thought power could be whisked from their them before they could even grip it.
Why did Nigeria have regional governors (even military) if regional government was abolished?

do you think nigerians aren't exposed to the history of the civil war? Obasanjo, in his book MY COMMAND, listed all the countries that fought in support of biafra likewise those that supported nigeria, so stop trying to twist facts that existed before you were born, especially when they came from a man(OBJ) that fought in the war and also accepted the letter of surrender from the biafrans

definitely not the bigotted there was a country.

the soldiers fought and defeated biafra and ojukwu and not ordinary civilians who only wished them well. Do you expect civilians to pick up arms against boko haram? The vigilantes that have such have been frustrated by the government of GEJ.

ii don't support the killings but when your people were killing their leaders and making jest out of the act in their own land by throwing up cartoons and making bread labels with such, dancing In public in the north, what did your leaders do? Did they caution them? Stop playing the saint here.

which leaders? Name names. GEJ has the police, NSCDC, army, navy, airforce, etc yet he's unable to make a single arrest. That shows he's actually the one sabotaging his government. His state of emergency bore no fruit other than worsen the matter. You guys like to claim APC sponsors boko haram but fail to view this angle: how can they sponsor insurgents to disrupt the peace in a region that is their stronghold and where they expect to get more votes? Just doesn't add up.
If you have read what one of the so-called Obasanjo's brigade commanders had to say about his dumbass G.O.C, you will probably stay away from quoting Obasanjo. Obasanjo remains a typical Yoruba.

I can easily say that you are ill-informed. The so-called Ewu Na Ebe Akwa song which the goofy Nowo Omogui claimed to be the root of taunting and by Igbo artist was in fact an Ijo. The distribution of photos of the corps of Ahamdu Bello and Tafawa Balewa which was allegedly attributed to Igbo market women in Northern region was actually done by New Nigerian Newspapers in Kaduna in order to incite unrest.

That was it, the RESOLUTION that was calling for Israeli's end of occupation and a Palestinian State was eaten by Nigeria(who indicated that they support the Palestinian cause before and would vote in favour!!).

What would France gain from Palestinian State or to get their freedom, nothing, and they VOTED big YES.

China, Russia and many others in South America voted YES

bappahman:
A People Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representative aspirant, Ms Aisha Osori, has dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) after emerging winner on the PDP platform.

Osori made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja while briefing newsmen at the APC national secretariat.

NAN recalls that Osori emerged winner at the just concluded AMAC/Bwari federal constituency primary in the Federal Capital Territory.

Osori, who was presented with the membership card of the APC, told newsmen she decided to carpet-cross after watching the APC primary because she believed in Osibanjo, who was her lecturer at one time.

“I decided to denounce membership after watching the APC conduct its presidential primary in a fair and competitive manner and after seeing the combination of Osibanjo and Buhari, both men of integrity.

“Osibanjo used to teach me at the University of Lagos, faculty of law, I believe that is a great combination that would move the country forward and I want to be part of that team,” she said.

According to her, the APC slogan ‘Change’ is enough reason to support the party as she was sure of winning the on the platform of APC.

Osori noted that more than 70 per cent of Nigerians were youths who wanted the change that “APC represents”.

On what her contribution would be to ensure the success of the APC at the general elections, Osori, who is the CEO of the Nigerian Women’s Trust Fund, cited experience.

“The years of experience I garnered in the private sector as a lawyer and also as writer, first with Thisday and later with Leadership newspapers will be of value to APC.

Reacting to the defection, the APC National Secretary, Mai-Mala Buni, who presented the membership card to Osori, expressed delight because his party was waxing stronger by the day.

“Such event will be a continuous thing. Our doors are open. Everybody, who is ready to join the party, is welcome anytime, any day,” he said.
