Nice. I also observed that when I switched to 5G NSA only mode my speed improved a bit from 200Kbps to about 1Mbps. I don't have 5G at all.

From my observation, I could watch YouTube on 720p at 200Kbps on TV but with Airtel impossible. Either way, I have contacted MTN and I hope they can sort this out.

Your issue could be coverage. Hopefully they send someone over for optimization

You still have to go to the store. When you get there, u'll be given a code to scan, which takes you to their portal where you fill the first steps and make payment. Then you do ur KYC registration but no filling of forms, u're given the registration panel to fill out everything, each step is followed by text msgs and emails till the end.

Once finished an installer will be assigned by the system and u receive an email and text to that effect, the installer calls in less than 30mins to confirm availability and will be at ur place in about 2hrs for final installation.

So the installer that came to mount my MTN ODU router mentioned that the ZTE model of the Airtel ODU is mostly affected by network issues compared to the ZLT.

He is an experienced installer and has done over 200 installations for Airtel.

This is actually true in my own case. I have both ZLT and ZTE Airtel ODU in the same position, and the ZLT ODU out performs the ZTE.

So far, so good. I am getting the 100Mbps speed on 5G+ virtually throughout the day. If I was someone who downloads a lot, i could have used well over 5TB by now, but i don't download, I just stream movies mostly and watch some live TV, especially during the world cup period.

For Downloads: It's fantastic, especially on 5G+. Speed is consistent. You can take full advantage of the 100Mbps speed when downloading.

For Streaming movies and TV shows: for some reason, even on 5G+, I am unable to utilize the full speed of the plan. I don't know if it's a limitation of the ODU or something else. But I am only able to stream files with bitrates lower than 65Mbps without buffering.

For live streaming: It's fantastic.

One thing I observed is that it performs better on 5G+. When it drops to just 5G, performance drops. It's horrible on 4G and 4G+, barely getting 50Mbps or slower.

One thing I know is that, if you have good 5G coverage in your location, you will certainly enjoy it. I don't have 5G base station nearby, yet it's still very usable.

The good thing about MTN is that, as long as there is coverage, their data is usually usable, unlike Airtel where coverage may be full yet you can't browse sometimes. Sometimes you may have to restart your Airtel device severally before you can access data.

On-boarding new subscribers and installation is now flawless for the ODU package, all registration is done online. Got a new device on Saturday, from conclusion of registration to final installation took just 3½hrs.

Was quite impressed, got the ZTE model.

I squeeze out time to swap the mtn ODU to physical sim. But unfortunately, the ODU number is restricted for a sim swap. So I couldn't do the swap to physical sim.

Was this at a road side agent or a proper MTN connect store or a service center? This sounds like an access level issue.

Please people, I need the .pac file for zlt x17u MTN. I made the mistake of bricking my device by selecting 4G TDD band. Now the device is in constant boot loop

I have tried to login into the interface to select the regular automatic mode but it's not possible because it's constantly rebooting and trying to connect to the internet.

I also have tried to reset it by using a pin to press that tiny hole under the device and yet no solution.

I asked Gemini and it directed me to flash the device but without the exact .PAC file, I risk hard bricking it permanently

I didn't even know that the MTN ODU has features of changing the bands. How did you get there?

Mine came with a physical sim.
I have texted 5GODU to 312 using both the admin interface and a feature phone, none worked for me.

That means your case is unique.

Go to any MTN service center, not a connect store. Ask to see a broadband team member. Ikeja, Ikoyi, Vi and a number of other locations in Lagos have service centers.

I've been on their neck for the past one month+ still my ODU is lying down useless.

They activated it for me after registration. Same method that others have also posted here, by sending 5GODU to 312 via sms. If it doesn't work in the router, you could try swapping the sim to a physical sim and try it in a phone.

their unlimited..they will tell you its unlimited but its 400gb fup, then the speed will be throtled...likewise airtel is 1tb fup

The ODU plans are different from the speed based plans you are referring to. I am currently using the 100Mbps unlimited MTN ODU introductory plan, and i have used more than 2TB already, and it has not been throttled.

Internet is even way cheaper in Europe. You can get 10Gbps unlimited fiber in a lot of countries is Europe for less than €30. In Spain and Portugal you get 10Gbps for €15. It's crazy how expensive internet is in Nigeria, a poor country at that.

I mostly watch remuxes of movies and series, where available, those are untouched, unmodified, lossless audio movies. They are of the highest quality.

Almost 2 weeks in, 2TB used so far and the 100Mbps MTN ODU intro plan is yet to be throttled. The intro bundled 100Mbps plan might truly be unlimited and uncapped.

On 12 May 2026, I paid MTN the sum of ₦30,000 for their 50Mbps FibreX subscription through their self-service portal. The payment went through successfully and was debited from my bank account.
However, the service was never activated. I immediately contacted their official FibreX support via WhatsApp, provided my payment receipt, reference number and all requested details. Their response was that it would take “at most 24/72 hours” for the subscription to kick in and to revert after that period.
As of today (July 2026), I still have neither the service nor a refund.
What makes this worse is that MTN sent a customer communication on 14 May 2026 acknowledging an industry-wide NIBSS incident on 12th and 13th May that affected some interbank payments. In that email, they stated they were “actively engaging with the relevant banks to facilitate the reversal and full refund” of impacted transactions.
Despite this clear admission and promise, nothing has been resolved in my case more than two months later.

I faced the same challenges...What I discovered about this MTN fibrex is that, it is not really MTN, it appears to be a third party selling under MTN because if you go to MTN customer service centers, they themselves don't know who to call. They will tell you they have to send email to the department , the people in the department will respond etc etc it appears to be about 3 other companies running the Fibrex under MTN umbrella ...I stand to be corrected

There's nothing like 3 companies running the FibreX service. That's false. Most of the MTN outlets you know are walk-ins for basic customer support services, like sim swap, sim reg and so on. There's a broadband department in MTN, which specifically treats issues regarding FibreX, ODU and other broadband services, they are typically only available at MTN service centers, not connect stores. MTN, just like any other firm, has various departments, including customer support, Broadband, Enterprise business and so many other departments. MTN customer support walk-in frontline staff can't treat issues regarding FibreX and some other broadband issues, so they have to escalate it to the broadband department.

As long as it is wireless, same difference, whether ODU or not. The only connection where pings are naturally expected to be low is fiber.

The other day i came across a news where the minister of communication in Ghana announced that MTN fibre pricing in Ghana has drastically reduced. The government intervened and got the prices down. The plan that caught my attention was the 300Mbps plan that now costs approximately 54k. If we had such a plan in this country, most people would prefer to use Fibre, given how slow and annoying Starlink has become in places like Abuja, especially during the day.

It got me thinking about the useless government we have. The only thing it is good at is taxing these companies to hell, and in return, these companies pass those cost to us the customers.
