You don't even know what you're talking about. The person you quoted was talking about how Airtel calls ODU customers who haven't subscribed on the ODU device for some time to remind the customer of the need to subscribe. Otherwise the ODU would be retrieved.
They initiate these calls from their customer support lines. I bet the person who called you was a scammer and you felt for it and sent 2k to him.

The sim is in the ODU. No, as long as the IDU is compatible with it, it will work.

Yeah, i have changed the IDU to Airtel's ZLT W304VA PRO, which i believe is superior, and the performance has been more stable.

They sent an installer today and he placed it at a better position. Since then, i have been seeing 5G+ on the network type indicator

Of course. Walk into any of the various MTN service centers in Lagos, not an MTN connect store. The broadband team are only present in service centers. Get it there.

They don't ask you to make a choice. The devices have a SIM serial number attached to them, that SIM serial number typically starts with 89234..... The SIM serial number doesn't have any phone number attached to it by default. It's simply attached to an esim, which is already embedded into the device.
At the point of registration, it's the SIM serial number that is used for registration. Once the registration is up on the system, the system chooses from a pool of available numbers and attach it to the serial.

You may choose to swap that number to a physical sim afterwards.

It has provision for physical sim and I didn't try a different sim in it

Have you had a full kit replacement in the past from Starlink? Because I know Starlink typically replaces faulty kits, unless it has been replaced for free before. When my Gen2 was having performance issues, I reported to their support and was immediately sent a full Gen3 kit as a replacement.

I don't think so. I think its tariff is different from other broadband devices

They have moved from 17M to the cheaper X17U. The speeds you're getting are nice and should be okay for you. Or are they not reliable with streaming and stuff?

The ODU only comes with esim, no? Do they have external Sim option or can it be swapped for external Sim like we did with Airtel? If any of the answers is positive, then the sim should be swapped and tested with routers like X25pro for more room for controls.

The speed is okay. It slows down during the day but you get 100% of the speed around midnight till daybreak. If you have MTN FibreX in your location, just stick to it since it is more consistent with speed.
It has a provision for physical sim and the settings can be changed. You simply need to swap it.

If you were in Abuja, i would have advised you to walk into their HQ and complain. They seem to be activating it easily now.

congratulations to you. Mine is yet to be activated. I just dumped the trash especially with the way Airtel is blessing my life. Up to six devices running concurrently and speed is absolutely great

Thanks. You should call the broadband helpline. I think they have resolved the issues around activation.

I got the MTN ODU earlier today at the MTN's HQ in Abuja. The device is being handled by the broadband team, not customer service walk-in. You are asked to pay #30,100.

After registration, the 100Mbps unlimited plan was activated, and it started working immediately. The ODU MTN is currently issuing is the ZLT X17U, same as the one of Airtel, same IDU as well.

I got home and started streaming with it and carrying out speed tests. I never got up to the advertised 100Mbps, it was hovering around 40 to 70Mbps on both 4G and 5G. it could be because of the MTN network issues we have been having in my location for the past one month or there about.
The thing is, i live directly under a base station and speed used to be excellent. In fact, i used to get up to 200Mbps on MTN 4G even in the daytime. But all of a sudden, MTN data services took a bad turn for over a month now. I can't even get up to 80Mbps on 5G, same 5G i used to get 400Mbps+.

Apart from the network challenges in my location, the other thing pissing me off about the MTN ODU is the ODU's interface. It's bland, lack features like the Airtel variant. It doesn't have the settings to enable or disable network bands or to lock them. It doesn't have the settings to change the internal antenna's directions like you can on the Airtel's variant, this particular feature helped me a lot with Airtel. The interface also doesn't show your data usage count like the one of Airtel. In fact, the interface is so annoying.

I'm not discouraging anyone from getting it. If you know you can live without those features on the Airtel ODU as a power user, then go ahead and get it. The speed issue might as well be a problem specifically with my location as i mentioned earlier. I will be reporting the network issue to MTN.

This is the message you receive on the device after the 100Mbps plan is successfully activated, it specifically says the plan is without FUP (Fair usage Policy), and some images of the interface.

Confirmed. This is true. Airtel has reverted to the original 25K, which includes cost of installation. It's probably because MTN has entered the game. MTN's ODU costs 30K, including installation and comes bundled with unlimited 100Mbps.

Hmm. The amount of complaints here is really discouraging. They just installed it in my street in Abuja.

Fiber is great when it works. But the moment there's vandalism of the infrastructure, frustration sets in. In Nigeria, you can't rely on fiber 100%, which means you must have a backup internet for when there's an interruption of the service.

Since i hit 1TB it's like the speed even increased. I'm now getting 70+Mbps since yesterday i hit 1TB

Can anyone else confirm they no longer throttle your speed after hitting 1TB on the 25K - 50Mbps plan? I know the 45K plan had 1.5TB speed cap also.

BTW, i was the first to report the 1TB speed cap throttling to 2Mbps sometime last year. I stopped subscribing because of that.

You could actually see improvements with the ODU, reason being that it's placed outside. The positioning outside also matters.
