Meanwhile, the problem is that some people are selling the devices for cheap to third parties. How do they retrieve those ones?

I haven't subscribed on my Airtel ODUs for over 7 months. They called severally to enquire as to the reason why I haven't been subscribing, and I told them it's because they have FUP and they could come and retrieve them, but no one has shown up yet.

I have successfully registered 2 esim for myself on the app, and they're both working. I also assisted someone else to register one, all via the Lebara app.

Lebara UK uses Vodafone in Uk as their network infrastructure carrier just like they use Aritel in Nigeria.

That is where you are getting it wrong. Airtel does all the hardwork. They pay Airtel a fixed amount to use their equipment thereby reducing Their own overhead. It is a model they use in over 10 countries. If it was not profitable to them they won't expand into other countries including Nigeria.

Don't mind those defending the ridiculous and expensive services of Lebara. All over the world, MNVO services are cheaper than that of the actual owner of the infrastructure, that's how it works. It's simple. The MNVO didn't have to acquire and deploy the infrastructure, which is the most expensive part of the whole process. MNVOs simply pay the owner of the infrastructure in order to use the services of the infrastructure, so why should the services of the MNVO be more expensive than that of the owner of the infrastructure.
Everything works in opposite in this country and useless regulator does nothing about it

Basic economics also teaches us that price is not the only determinant of demand as people are willing to pay more when they believe they are getting better quality, reliability,and value for money. If cheaper was always better, Samsung and iPhone wouldn’t still be competing successfully despite cheaper alternatives like Tecno, infinix. Let Labara provide quality service and customers decide whether the value is worth it.

Lebara is an MNVO. Lebara doesn't have its own infrastructure. They simply utilize existing infrastructures of other service providers. Services from an MNVO are typically cheaper than that of the owner of the actual infrastructure, that's how it's in most parts of the world. I am not surprised that it's the opposite in Nigeria. After all, nothing works properly in this country.

Moving the Airtel ODU sim won't let me do the counting of data usage. Some people did say theirs isn't capped but I guess we'd never know for sure.

I tested Airtel ODU for 2 straight months and at both times my speed was capped at 2Mbps after using exactly 1TB.

No. I used almost 2TB last month and over 3TB the month before. It's unlimited with no FUP, as far as i know.

Actually, that's how MNVOs operate worldwide. An MNVO's services are supposed to be cheaper than its infrastructure provider. What that means is that, Lebara services are supposed to be cheaper than MTN if MTN is the owner of the infrastructure. But everything in Nigeria is always different.

You're not getting value for your money at this speed. I would be very angry if this is the speed I was getting. You paid for a 50Mbps plan, but not getting up to 2/5th of the speed.

By the way, Netflix, Prime and the rest of them reduce the quality of your streams so that you can use that slow connection to stream the so-called 4K streams on their platform. What you are streaming is not 4K. It's a compressed/lossy video quality.

This is why I stick to MTN. I can't be streaming and be worrying about my data getting slowed down due to FUP. It's more expensive, but you're getting more value.

Starlink has gotten worse, nothing has improved, at least in Abuja. Personally, I don't use it until after midnight as it's frustrating during the day. I have the MTN ODU which I use during the day. Starlink becomes fast after midnight, I get up to 300Mbps upwards. The reason I still keep starlink is because of stability. Starlink has 99.9% uptime reliability. You can bet your life that it will up and running anytime you want to do basic browsing. My frustration with Starlink is streaming. It frustrates the hell out of me. I know that people in less congested states still enjoy it almost anytime of the day, but in Abuja, it's not serving my day time usages.

It depends on the policy of the network. If they promised symmetric download and upload, then yes, it would be 100Mbps up and down. Some networks don't give symmetric though. It seems MTN Fiber is not symmetric.

Going through this thread ,and seeing what you guys are experiencing, just to enjoy a stable and decent internet connection, I am like...WOW! All the settings and manipulations that needs to be done just to have what is, by most standards, a mediocre internet connection and experience. These companies need to be held accountable. I remember when Glo wanted to crash data pricing a few years ago, MTN and Airtel complained to NCC and ultimately, NCC labeled it as anti-competition. It's the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard.

All the countries around the world where data eventually becomes cheap, it was always one company that starts the revolution and the rest had to follow or be left out. But not in Nigeria.

In India, it was Jio. In Portugal and Spain, it was Digi.

You guys like to deceive yourselves with nonsense stats. Go to Europe, India and North Africa and see how cheap data is. In most parts of Europe, you get unlimited 1Gbps fibre for less than 30 euros. In Portugal and Spain, you get unlimited 10Gbps for 15 Euros, which is less than 30k naira. In Nigeria, the cheapest fibre connectivity around is by MTN and Airtel, and you get 25-30k for measly 50Mbps. MTN's 1Gbps fibre goes for 200K per month, which is ridiculous.

Yes, the esim for MTN ODU sim can be swapped. Though it has a restriction placed on it. But every MTN connect shop manager has the access to swap such line. In MTN services centers, all permanent staff and some contract CCRs have the access too.

The problem is most Nigerians don't know their right. No mtn staff can refuse to swap your line, whether it's an ODU, esim or whatever. If they try to deny you your line, raise hell in that office and petition NCC. As long as your biometric data is on a line and it's verified with NIN, MTN can't deny your request for a swap.

Yes, Mafab(Mcom) is the third entity with 5G license in Nigeria. If you recall correctly a few years back, there was a controversy over an unknown firm that NCC granted 5G license over Airtel. Mafab was actually the second firm to be given a 5G license after MTN, but because they had no capacity to deploy 5G, it took them until after Airtel had gotten their own 5G license and deployed before they could deploy, albeit very limited. Mcom is the only one with 5G SA

Mafab communications (Mcom) have 5G SA in some parts of Abuja and I think Lagos too. Their 5G coverage is very limited.

If you were among those who had challenges with activation in the past weeks, check now, as they have fixed the issue generally yesterday.

One of the reasons I don't like the MTN ODU is the Ui, it's too bland, lacking those features that could have improved the experience of a power user. For instance, maybe if you could change the direction of the internal antenna of the ODU, it would improve the performance. But that feature is not available on the MTN ODU. These are some of the things you can do on all Airtel ODUs.
