EkoIle1: Your posts are worthless and irrelevant since they have nothing to do with the topic

The topic = The FG government lied back in April they Nigeria was ready for Ebola.

It's either you agree that the FG lied or disagree with valid points about what they did in and before April till this very second to protect Nigerians.

You are free to exit thread if you have nothing better to contribute apart from trolling with irrelevant rants..
Lol!

Looks like you are losing it.

You started the thread to malign the FG and praise your paymaster Fashola, you have NO intention to provide facts that will help the general public in the fight against Ebola.

Unfortunately you do not even have the details and your propaganda is collapsing on you.

jesuslovesme123: Your last 6 words are exactly what my point is. These measures were taken AFTER the fact. Why did Nigeria have to wait for ebola to get into Nigeria before doing anything?

Your comments reflect the mediocrity that Nigerians have accepted for too long. This mediocrity has cost, and will cost some Nigerians their lives.

[s]The WHO should not have to think for Nigeria. If you have a neighbour with the Ebola virus, would you fling open the doors to your home, waiting for the WHO to advise you to protect yourself? I hope not...[/s]

Back in April, the FG said measures were in place to protect Nigerians and that the FG was ready for Ebola.

So please tell us specifically what measures he was talking about.

That's to the Lagos state government and the healthcare workers/first responders..

Sorry, this didn't prevent 2 deaths and multiple infections. It's still yet to produce one single isolation tent or unit..meaning we are still in danger so this is very irrelevant..

Please stop doing attache. Tell us where the FG isolation centers are located in all the 36 states, tell us about the qualified manpower and tools available at our airports and borders to screen possible carriers. tell us how many tents they've procured and set up for eventualities...
Lol!

First of all Sawyer was not first treated by that LASG that you worship.

He was taken to first consultant Ikoyi a private outfit, which I must say acted professionally by treating the patient with a high index of suspicion and insisted on getting the patient tested.
They also acted professionally by notifying the government of a reportable disease knowing fully well that that will lead to the shut down of the facility.

There are tiers of government and naturally the clinic will notify the state ministry of health which happens to be Lagos, who will now go ahead and notify the Federal ministry of health.

LASG that you worship did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.
Rather it would have been gross incompetence on their part if they had kept mute.

The quarantine facilities are being manned by the LASG, FG, WHO, CDC whether you come here and type rubbish and post pictures of your god Fashola it does not change the facts on ground.

STFU, quit trolling and stop bothering us with your idiotic, illiterate and irrelevant stupidity. Your masters let ebola into Nigeria to start with because of their usual lies and incompetence.

1. Explain to us the measures your incompetent losers you call masters in abuja put in place any where in Nigeria to protect Nigerians against ebola virus...

2. Also, your aso rock dullard is in charged of the borders with his law enforcement agencies so please tell us how they as usual slept on duty while the Liberian host index kill 2 Nigerians and out others in danger.

3. Tell is about the measures and equipments they have at our borders and airports to protect Nigerians.

And when you are done answering that, please also let us know what your own village governors have done or put in place to protect you and your family...

Why is it hard for this clown to even show us what his masters have done to protect us?
Even before the WHO sounded the alarm bells just after the Sawyer incident.

All flights form Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone were cancelled.

All passengers coming from high risk zones are checked for constitutional symptoms and further tested if need be.

All level one contacts have been traced and quarantined.

Other contacts are under surveillance.

$11M dollars has been released by the FG to combat the illness.

$200M by the world bank of which Nigeria will benefit.

Isolation centres have been set up by the FG in conjunction with the LASG.

Etc.
PoliticsRe: Gej's Incompetence Will Kill Us All If We Are Not Careful. by eaglechild: 6:46pm On Aug 10, 2014
Obiagelli: how about testing screening passengers from 'ebola regions', apparently sawyer came in sick, if the government had done enough sensitisation at the airport and borders, sawyer would probably have been quarantined at the airport.
Did you bother to read what I wrote?
huh

In any case Sawyer was taken to a hospital directly and treated with a high index of suspicion despite denying any history of contact.

You do realise that his symptoms were non specific?
PoliticsRe: Gej's Incompetence Will Kill Us All If We Are Not Careful. by eaglechild: 6:27pm On Aug 10, 2014
jesuslovesme123: "Goodluck" is being blamed for not mitigating the issue. Common sense should have told him to shut our borders to certain countries. But we all know that common sense is not very common.
Gosh!

Do you think you just wake up and shut borders?

If that was the case then all outbound flights from Nigeria would have been cancelled by the rest of the world.

Do you now think the rest of the world is incompetent too for not shutting us out?

The WHO continually updates travel guidelines and recommendations in scenarios like this.
Up until Sawyer's case the WHO made no such recommendations for flight cancellations or border closures because the disease was fairly contained. British airways and other European and international carriers were still flying in and out of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
Arik was about the first to stop flights followed by BA and Asky etc and all these were after the Sawyer incident took place.

The Liberian was handled with a high index of suspicion by the healthcare workers based on his symptoms and history of travel.

No one was certain it was Ebola at the time he presented and he denied history of contact which would have helped curb the spread. However, the medical personnel still insisted that he be tested for Ebola

Quarantine processes started immediately the case was confirmed to be Ebola and that was when contact tracing also started and that was when the nurse was picked up. I cannot corroborate your story that the nurse was neglected because she was not the only contact and she was not even the first to test positive.

Bear in mind that a host of other illnesses can present as Ebola, it is not a spot diagnosis, and the singular most important thing in this scenario that would have helped is a history of contact which was vehemently denied by the index case.

Do not let emotions and hear say becloud your judgement.

From time immemorial contact tracing has been used to combat epidemic of this magnitude whether they've been confirmed or not. The same thinking drove Patrick Sawyer to Nigeria and you can see what we have on our hands. So Sir, good luck to everyone cos I don't even have the strength to argue with you. SMH for Nigeria.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/ebola-alert-nigeria-records-2-deaths-9-cases/ Giving the current status of the outbreak, Chukwu said; “Since the last time I addressed you on Tuesday when I informed the global community that Nigeria has confirmed seven cases of Ebola Virus Disease, between then and today we have additional two confirmed cases.
“The total now is nine confirmed cases of which two are late. They are the same two we told you about earlier, the index case and the health worker who we unfortunately lost some days ago.  So as at this morning, total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria stands at nine. Eight are Nigerian and one was an American – Liberian. Seven are alive and receiving treatment in Lagos. “
28.5% case fertility
The Minister affirmed that so far Nigeria’s case fertility rate is 28.6 percent.  “In the ECOWAS region, the case fertility rate stands at 55 percent which means 46 percent of people who have suffered Ebola are alive and living witnesses. I want to reiterate again that in the last 48 hours we have confirmed two additional  EVD cases here in Nigeria . They are Nigerians and are people who have had contact with the index case and as at today our fatality is two.
“ We do not want anybody to be lost. They are surviving and we are treating them here in Lagos. There are more suspected cases. We will let the media know the result of these suspected cases that we are currently monitoring,” Chukwu remarked

This is the minister's briefing on 09-08-2014.
HealthRe: Family Of Dead Nigerian Nurse On The Run by eaglechild: 6:35am On Aug 10, 2014
19naia: they cant fool people who feel healthy ,into not trying to flee health care workers from the government, when in Nigeria it still remains that health care workers are the ones who first spread the disease in Nigeria and they are still the primary source of it in Nigeria after it came with the Liberian man who also came with "Government" envoy.. The Liberian was not fleeing, he was doing his job unaware of his situation. Further, Look into Sawyers profession and his relatives profession, Sawyer was a government related worker and i suspect health related workers had contact in or were his family as they mingled in government circles over concern and counsel about the Ebola crisis in Liberia and Co.. If the suspects feel healthy and have health care workers coming to detain them under suspicion, they are just as well founded to run from the healthcare workers for fear that the healthcare workers will infect them...

I never stated or stand by the Idea that the volunteer health workers sacrificing to help ebola victims, are deliberate intent to spread the disease. They are doing a work of good intentions but it is not as easy as they believe and they themselves can and are doing more unintended harm as is proven now by the spread of ebola in Nigeria by the well intended yet miscalculated health care workers.. Remember that if those professional control and quarantine systems/protocols work as you keep insisting, then answer how it is that Nigeria has Ebola on the loose in community environs from the very health workers you continue to say have it under control and should not be feared or avoided like a source of ebola?

I don't assume every Nigerian is bad, i know many good ones all over the world and i know many bad people from USA, and many other countries, the worst person i had encounters with was an american as a matter of my opinion.. What i will stand by ,is quarantine from the chronic disease of corruption and negligence in Nigerias Organized government and economic culture where big money and power are congregated... I have stated my view and you have stated yours and you have that space to do so without me trying to stop you.. But it wont stop me from standing by what i have stated with hope to learn about a better way for the Pandemic of Ebola..

I am happy for those who will take caution towards the healthcare workers and try to stay away from them.. Naturally, if some one was feeling ill and thinking they had Ebola, instinct is not to run, they will seek health care..
My suspicion is the people running are feeling well and fearing infection from the hysteria gripped healthcare workers... Simple as that and a life saving common sense/instinct no matter what kind of rationalization authoritarians try to put to it.. they didn't steal or kill and they dont want to be killed by good yet blind intentions going blundered....
Please stop spreading WRONG information.

As of now ALL the confirmed cases in Nigeria were primary contacts of Sawyer.

There is no evidence that any Nigerian healthcare worker has transmitted the disease to a non healthcare worker.

Sawyer was a primary contact of a confirmed case.

Sawyer was under surveillance and he travelled against advice, that is why the Liberian government has apologized.

You are speculating.

I am giving you facts.

Would you trust the Nigerian government with your life if you were the nurse. The American doctor and health worker trusted their government and they were flown back to the state where they were well taken care of. Right now they are in good shape.

Can we trust the present government with lives having witnessed countless kilings up north this year alone and knowing fully well that those who have other less life threathening ailments are still dying like fouls in our hospitals.

My assumption is that they will just be isolated in an area and abandoned while the government keeps promising them help will come from the west. I know my country. I may be wrong though!

HealthRe: Family Of Dead Nigerian Nurse On The Run by eaglechild: 4:03am On Aug 10, 2014
19naia: I am not giving advice to anyb8. What about health workers? How should they protect themselves while caring for patients?

Health workers treating patients with suspected or confirmed illness are at higher risk of infection than other groups. During an outbreak a number of important actions will reduce or stop the spread of the virus and protect health workers and others in the health-care setting. These actions are called “standard and other additional precautions” and are evidence-based recommendations known to prevent the spread of infections. The following questions and answers describe the precautions in detail.

Should patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola virus be separated from other patients?
Isolating patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola virus disease in single isolation rooms is recommended. Where isolation rooms are not available, it is important to assign designated areas, separate from other patients, for suspected and confirmed cases. In these designated areas, suspect and confirmed cases should also be separate. Access to these areas should be restricted, needed equipment should be dedicated strictly to suspected and confirmed EVD treatment areas, and clinical and non-clinical personnel should be exclusively assigned to isolation rooms and dedicated areas.

Are visitors allowed in areas where patients suspected or confirmed Ebola virus disease are admitted?
Stopping visitor access to patients infected with EVD is preferred. If this is not possible, access should be given only to those individuals who are necessary for the patient’s well-being and care, such as a child’s parent.

Is protective equipment required when caring for these patients?
In addition to standard health-care precautions, health-care workers should strictly apply recommended infection control measures to avoid exposure to infected blood, fluids, or contaminated environments or objects – such as a patient’s soiled linen or used needles.
All visitors and health-care workers should rigorously use what is known as personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE should include at least: gloves, an impermeable gown, boots/closed shoes with overshoes, a mask, and eye protection for splashes (goggles or face shields).
Is hand hygiene important?
Hand hygiene is essential and should be performed:

before donning gloves and wearing PPE on entry to the isolation room/area;
before any clean or aseptic procedures is being performed on a patient;
after any exposure risk or actual exposure with a patient’s blood or body fluids;
after touching (even potentially) contaminated surfaces, items, or equipment in the patient’s surroundings; and
after removal of PPE, upon leaving the isolation area
It is important to note that neglecting to perform hand hygiene after removing PPE will reduce or negate any benefits of the PPE.

Either an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and running water can be used for hand hygiene, applying the correct technique recommended by WHO. It is important to always perform hand hygiene with soap and running water when hands are visibly soiled. Alcohol-based hand rubs should be made available at every point of care (at the entrance and within the isolation rooms and areas); running water, soap, and single use towels should also be always available.ody..To flee or not to flee. I am for people making their own choice with perspective independent of only the media and professional propaganda... I am stating the reasons established for why the people would be fleeing..
Its established that the Health professionals are the source of the spread beyond the first Liberian man..

And even if you are a professional, it doesn't mean anything more than you are liable to malpractice and as i have just witnessed presidential and congressional inquest of gross negligence and dereliction of medical duties in a $55 billion a year medical organization here in USA.. they allowed patients to die and go untreated because they were trying to save money to give themselves bonuses from the money they saved not treating patients.. I was a patient in the same system before and i know the worth of professionalism when it comes to surviving with innate instincts..
Keep touting professionalism, but i will wait for posterity to determine what stands in this pressing issue of Ebola outbreak...
If you want je to respect you as a health Professional, then find the cure or a foul proof containment protocol.. Then i will respect your claim to Professional self worth.. If you say you cant, then i say you cant be my health Professional in this matter.. I have seen head doctors sacked for incompetence related to my case files before.. And thats not the only professional fiascos i have witnessed trying to tell me contrary to what i instinctively knew to be true...
The bolded is WRONG.

Healthcare professionals are most at risk of contracting the disease simply because they come in contact with already sick patients and that is what happened with Sawyer.
No matter how you tried to rationalise people fleeing for treatment it is WRONG.
This is what went through Sawyer's head and he fled now look what has happened.

Healthcare workers are also not likely to transmit it because the disease becomes transmissible when the patient is very Ill and as the records have it all the healthcare professionals who were exposed to Sawyer willingly submitted to quarantine even before they bacame symptomatic because they fully understand that it is their by best chance of survival, therefore it unlikely that they will transmit the disease.
Recall that the American doctor and the Sierra leonian doctor also just like the healthcare workees in Nigeria willingly quarantine themselves.

It is extremely callous of you to speculate that someone who willingly volunteers to care for Ebola patients knowing the tremendous risks involved to himself and family will want to deliberately or even unwittingly spread the disease.
Remember that strict adherence to laid down safety guidelines in this particular case protects the healthworker himself who is most at risk.

You also speak as though healthcare workers are not human beings and do not also have the human instinct of self preservation.

In cases of such outbreaks their are established protocols which I can tell you categorically are being adhered to in the Nigerian case.

It will be too long to start giving you details.

But confirmed and unconfirmed cases are cared for separately and individually.

Their are different gradations of contacts which are handled differently.

Do not always assume that everything Nigerian is bad and NEVER you assume that the popular view or belief is the correct one.
I am not touting professionalism.
I am only passionate that people are not misled.

It has already cost a lot of lives.

19naia: the gross speculation is to chase those people around under speculation that they are infected.. Its speculation to say they are infeected until they are tested.. Furthermore.. It is the doctors and nurses of your so called WHO and CDC impeccable procedure/protocol that are becoming confirmed infected and at risk of spreading to their very own patients and even the suspected patients who are not even infected..
Two american doctors, one liberian and one Nigerian nurse and doctor..

Your are disoriented to think people should not even consider running from Ebola doctors and nurses when the doctors and nurses are the only ones Confirmed so far to have it... The confirmed reality is that the Health workers ,chasing down innocent suspects, have the only proven cases of infection among themselves... The non speculative confirmed cases in Nigeria would lead any clear considering person to stay away from the health authorities who run around chasing Ebola and catching the disease themselves.. if they haven't proven that they don't catch the disease themselves in the treatment and quarantine environment, its only speculation for the health officials to say they can keep patients from cross infection..
Think clearly and stop trying to simply dominate with your opinion.. People aren't wild animals to be chased down like vermin under the speculated suspicion that they are infected... the health workers are the ones most proven to be the ones likely to have the infection and spread it to their captive patients or innocent suspected patients.. Maybe you are an Enola health worker and a risk to people huh
