PoliticsRe: Consumer Potential: Three Nigerian City Clusters To Compete With Lagos by eaglechild: 3:15pm On Aug 05, 2014
Port Harcourt, Warri, Benin City, Aba, Enugu and
Onitsha make up the six city southeast cluster. Its
proximity to oil wells has led the region to be a hub
of activity for oil companies and foreign investment .
According to the report, total GDP in this cluster
alone is $63bn, which is a close rival to Lagos’s
GDP of $68bn
, [b]despite having far fewer households.
Both Port Harcourt and Aba have considerably
higher
consumption per capita than Lagos.

Taking a critical look at the above we can see that the SE/Niger Delta cluster has the highest per capita consumption and standard of living.

Note that the SE cluster has a population of about just 7-9million with a corresponding GDP of $63B vs Lagos with a population of 21million and a GDP of $68B.

That is why they said PH and Aba ( and from calculations the other cities) have a CONSIDERABLY higher per capita consumption than Lagos.

HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THAT IBADAN IS A STATE WITH BROWN ROOF. IT DOESN'T HAS MANSION LIKE ENUGU, ANAMBRA.

I cannot help you.

I cannot cure blindness.
PoliticsRe: Consumer Potential: Three Nigerian City Clusters To Compete With Lagos by eaglechild: 2:47pm On Aug 05, 2014
abagoro: That Port Harcourt has by far the highest consumption per capita in Nigeria is very indisputable, but the fact that Aba is higher than Lagos comes as a surprise to me. I believe that the under-estimated population of Aba or over-estimated population of Lagos is the reason for this miscalculation.
Aba should definitely not come as a surprise to you cause it straddles PH and Owerri which it feeds with goods.
Aba has a more uniform income spread then Lagos hence the higher per capita consumption.

It is very simple.
PoliticsRe: Consumer Potential: Three Nigerian City Clusters To Compete With Lagos by eaglechild: 2:40pm On Aug 05, 2014
GPA5: Ibadan (the capital of Oyo State) is the
second largest city after Lagos, and has a fast-
growing consumer market. While Lagos has over
four times the number of households as Ibadan,
consumption per capita of Ibadan in 2013 was
$4,562, rivalling Lagos’s $4,710. Ibadan also has
a
large emerging consumer class with annual
household incomes of between $7,500 and
$20,000,
and one of the larger consuming middle classes
in
the country with incomes between $20,000 and
$70,000 a year.
According to a recent African Development Bank
(AfDB) report, Tracking Africa’s Progress in
Figures,
Ibadan is one of the top 10 fastest growing
cities in
Africa.

THIS IS A SCAM. HOW CAN STATE WITH BROWN ROOFS BE AMONG TOP FASTEST GROWING CITIES IN AFRICA?

ANAMBRA, ENUGU SHUOLD REPLACE IBADAN. THERE'S BROWN ROOFS NO SLUM IN ENUGU, ANAMBRA
You are a stark illiterate trying hard to be sarcastic.

Where are Enugu and Onitsha located?

If you even bothered to read the article, you will see that the SE cluster boasts the highest per capita spending notably PH and Aba which surpass even Lagos.

Please learn to read.

Large land mass is what Ibadan has going for it.
PoliticsRe: ....OVERRATED Enugu.... by eaglechild: 12:30pm On Aug 05, 2014
maestroferddi: Parochial because your sole index of urban expansion/development is the presence of oil companies. On the other hand, Enugu is built for tourism. It has a booming real estate sub-sector unlike PH that is experiencing one of the most serious real estate crises in among African cities.
Thank you so much.

He has a very very narrow minded view of what economic opportunities are.

Actually, most parts of Owerri have more of sandy soil.

Some parts have red soil but it is not as clayey as that of Enugu.

HopeAtHand: Nope..if you aint talking OYEL that means ure doing something wrong.
Uyo(Akwaibom) is relevant in the oil sector and Enugu is a real estate paradise right now, so that is my confusion.

I know a couple of friends who have invested heavily in the latter.
To say they are under your radar means you are not yet big/diversified enough.
PoliticsRe: ....OVERRATED Enugu.... by eaglechild: 10:46pm On Aug 04, 2014
HopeAtHand: Anyone planning on levelling Nigeria can go ahead as far as they dnt level Port Harcourt.

No one should insult the young man becos of his opinion. We all differ at one point or the other. The reason i do not rily fancy SEastern cities is because of the red earth..It has its way of making clean places look dirty..

That said, take away Shelter Afrique and Ewet housing, Uyo is only roadside beauty. I hardly refer to Nigerian cities as beautiful, i only rank them according to economic importance and Uyo and Enugu are way below my economic radar...I don't see them.
You must be a petty trader.

wirinet: Sorry to but in on a purely Igbo (or should i say Imo) matter, but as an outsider, i do not understand the vitrolic attacks by Igbos against Okorocha. Is it that he is the worse Igbo governor in Nigeria? Because nobody attacks Theodore Orji or Sullivan Chime the way they attack Okorocha. I can not remember any other Governor in Nigeria's history that has been criticized as much, not Uzoh Kalu, not Mbadinuju and not even Ohakim. From what we outsiders read here on Nairaland, Okorocha seems to have been the worse governor ever to have governed eastern Nigeria.
Are you for real?
Please, just go to the thread that says rate your governor and see for yourself.

Rochas has not received up to a third of the criticisms piled on T. A. Orji.

Rochas repeated onslaught here is simply because some people are hell bent on sycophantic praise singing.
HealthRe: Nigerian Doctor Who Treated Victim Infected With Ebola by eaglechild: 10:26pm On Aug 04, 2014
delishpot: They know the symptoms. Once someone presents with it, they know. What is the big deal in wearing some coveralls, gloves and nose masks when handling a patient for the first time?
Yes passengers can ask to be paid for the airliner exposing them to the disease by taking a sick man to sit with them. Or are they not important to their families too? I believe doctors salary takes into consideration all risks involved in their jobs too. Any job involving travel has that covered as risk. So I am sure a frequently traveling doctor will have that same risk allowee a stewardess in a plan has. Which the ticketing officer does not have even though they both work for same company.
Doctors handle sick people which means that is their job. How else do you want to be paid again for special risk again? It's your responsibility to know that you could catch the disease from your client.
A doctor was telling me once when I complained about his nurses not wearing gloves when checking patients and esp I hate how they all touch healthy babies and admire them just after checking a sick person.
He said. Look if your child won't be sick he won't be sick even if all the sick people in the world should touch him. It's God that protects. I was like shocked. Coming from a medical doctor o.
So he doesn't care to protect himself. If I work with bees, and I choose not to protect myself against stings and get stung should I ask for special pay cos of that?
Yes it's sad when it happens. If you asking for increase in pay all well and good but not because you are exposed to risk. Just like soldiers. If you are sent to war you deserve the extra pay but your salary as a soldier is there cos of the fact you risk your life as a soldier. Special duties/ assignments withing your field of practice attracts the special pay
A doctor sent specifically to handle Ebola cases can ask for any amount he deems fit. It's a risk he is taking a risk in going to handle that case. But not to ask for special pay just because you feel the need to.
I am trying so much to suppress the urge to call you a big FOOOOL.
PoliticsRe: What are Rochas Okorocha Crimes? by eaglechild: 10:39am On Aug 04, 2014
meforyou1: my main grouse with okorocha is that he has subjugated a great town, my hometown arondizuogu, economically, politically and socially. the major road that passes through arondizuogu is the worst road in africa as of today. there's no single infrastructure in the town. the only general hospital there is dead except for the motuary section only. the 2 main secondary schools there(built by the indigenes of the town) are in a state of disrepair.
i can't dare go the village now that is rainy season, except i go by helicopter.
if u visit arondizuogu, i swear, u will become an ardent critic of okorocha
This is sad

Arondizuogu is a great town with many enterprising individuals.

It will even be more painful , I can imagine , considering that if you just drive across the border to Anambra the story changes.

cjrane: Building city gates was an ancient Islamic concept to regulate just one entrance and exit point in their cities and towns.Usually to ensure security during the medieval periods of frequent wars. However modern middle eastern cities now use city gates as an art work center of sort.

Anyhow, the concept of city gates was adopted as a model for Northern Nigerian cities and now Rochas has taken it further to build street gates for even streets inside the city? grin
You know our people like over doing stuff. grin
Remember Rochas has been influenced a lot by the north.
