bushdoc9919: If true....I doubt it is sustainable.
We are not earning enough money to pay for fuel subsidy.
I hate to say this...but until oil prices go up....it does not make economic sense to subsidse fuel. Thank you so much. You just said my mind, also our refineries need to be working at full capacity. This is the unpopular truth. |

rusher14: There is no noise associated with this government's probe of illicit deals from the last administration.
For this purpose the Buhari government was voted.
It was expected, was never going to be easy but certainly required.
As the fifth estate of the realm, the media is playing its role of publishing its findings on activities which they consider newsworthy. This is no distraction actually but an echoing of what this government has always stated.
May this administration continue to hunt down and bring to justice those who have looted public funds.
From your write up Buhari was elected to probe Jonathan. It does not matter if our hospitals are moribund or if our roads are impassable or our economy is crashing so far the witch hunt is on you are satisfied. If Buhari is serious about fighting corruption we will know but as long as the likes of Tinubu, Obasanjo, Amaechi, IBB and cronies are roaming freely then he is joking. |

Chiwude: The truth remains that Okorocha's popularity is dwindling unless he comes back to his senses. His close defeat in last election showed the reality on ground. 1) Imolites were tired of his China projects littered in every nooks and cranny of the state. Many of the road now washed away by erosion. 2) One major defect of his first tenure was that he failed to bring major investors to the state. Rather he wasted tax payers money on failed trips to Turkey and other senile countries under the guise of bringing investment. 3) Failure to curtail the rising unemployment in the state. 4) Turning Imo state into his personal property by buying illegally state owned corporations with lies that he was transferring them to private hands. A good example is the fraudulent sale of Ada palm to Roche group. ITC and other state owned establishment. 5) Awarding major state contracts to his incompetent company and that of his loyal boys. Majority of these contracts were inferior. 6) Depriving many contractors of their hard earned money by revoking contracts that had already been started. 7) Awarded many contract to the astonishment of many, yet left them uncompleted. Eg The 24 LGA general hospitals. 6) Promoting his son-in-law and daughter into sensitive positions in government. 7) Owerri became dirty and littered with waste under his watch. Shocking. I didn't know Ada Palm has been sold. |

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has forecast a four per cent growth rate for Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2015, as the country continues to contend with the challenge of declining income from the drop in crude oil prices. The latest growth forecast by the fund is 2.25 percentage points lower than its last year’s projection for Nigeria. The multilateral donor agency stated this in its 208-page World Economic Outlook (WEO) titled, “Adjusting to Lower Commodity Prices”, released on Wednesday. In the 2015 budget, the federal government had initially forecast a real GDP growth rate of 6.4 per cent in 2015 but was forced to slash it to 5.5 per cent owing to declining oil prices. Oil accounts for the bulk of government revenue in Nigeria, but global crude prices have more than halved over the past one year. Continuing, the IMF stated that it anticipated growth in sub-Saharan Africa to also slow this year to 3.8 per cent, from five per cent in 2014. Similarly, it forecast that growth in low-income developing countries would also fall to 4.8 per cent this year, more than one percentage point weaker than in 2014, before picking up to 5.8 per cent in 2016. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/imf-cuts-nigeria-s-gdp-growth-forecast-to-4-/222180/ |

LONDON Oct 7 (Reuters) - Barclays will consult with its index users on whether Nigeria's sovereign debt should remain in its emerging market local currency government bond benchmark, the bank said on Wednesday. Barclays listed the "eligibility of Nigeria for inclusion in the EM Local Currency Government Index" among the primary topics to be considered in its annual review process, according to a statement, though it give no additional details. Africa's largest economy has taken a hammering from the steep drop in oil prices since mid-2014. An exclusion by Barclays could add to its list of financial headaches after rival index provider JP Morgan announced in September it would drop Nigeria from its index, citing a lack of liquidity and currency restrictions. Barclays said the consultation would run through October and results will be published shortly afterwards. Nigeria is one of 19 countries which make up the index and the only one from Africa apart from South Africa. According to Barclays, Nigeria's bonds had a weighting of 1.2 percent on Oct. 6. (Reporting by Karin Strohecker; Editing by James Dalgleish) http://af.reuters.com/article/nigeriaNews/idAFL8N1274UQ20151007In April 2013 Barclays added approximately $16 billion of Nigerian debt to its emerging markets government bond index under president Goodluck Jonathan's administration. However with the lack of economic policies, trailing the fall in oil prices, in this administration, Barclays may soon delist Nigeria just as JP Morgan did. |
