Golan007: Platitudes.
A country of 180 million people going into a frenzy over an additional 3.5 billion dollar debt should speak to their inability to produce.
It actually is an indictment on the populace rather than government. Amazing! One of Buhari's regrets in 1984 was borrowing from IMF and subjecting Nigerians to their harsh conditions which created a favorable atmosphere for his ouster! It's not the amount of 3.5B that's the problem. The problem is lack of any solid plan to use it judiciously. 3.5 from IMF, 11.8 from China, 2.5 from here and there: they add up for the long haul, because there's not going to be any cheap oil to sell anymore. Honestly, if you are in a position to advice and influence Buhari, you should be lecturing him right now, not coming here to say things you know are not true. |

Golan007: Most of you simply speak from sentiments and not actuality. Actuality is that Buhari has been laser focused on embezzling and eating Nigeria's future with his friends and family members. How much effort has he put into generating income from other sources, except oil? As the ignorant minister of petroleum, the guy has single handedly filled all positions in NNPC, and allied companies. His niece, nephews, and in laws run the so called lucrative oil industries in Nigeria, because he is so ignorant about basic economics. Anybody can steal, borrow, or inherit money, the genius lies in managing it for today, and future generations. Tell me one single thing Buhari has done to prepare for the much anticipated shortfall in oil revenue? Nothing! |

NGpatriot: The FG doesn't build industries and they are not responsible for such business activities, this is the domain of private investors and they base their investments decisions on incentives, logistics, access to supplies and imputes, access to skilled and educated manpower, conducive and welcoming environment, access to large markets with buying power and disposable income so leave the FG out of that equation.
Btw, Dangote revived Nigerian truck manufacturer ANAMMCO in Enugu with a $170 million investment and purchase of 3,500 locally-assembled Shacman trucks at the production plant of Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMMCO), Enugu.
Your anger and hatred are always misplaced and misguided because northerners do more for you than your own people and the people you carry on your shoulders as heroes.. Government doesn't build industries? Did I hear you right? Of course, you don't mean Nigerian government! |

Golan007: I support borrowing, yes.
Why do several Nigerians think it is dishonorable to borrow a mere 3.5 Billion dollars yet think USA borrowing 4 trillion dollars makes sense?
You are claiming to understand economics yet you cannot see that a country of 180 million people should actually be more productive than it is.
Na wa. When you borrow money to chop, share amongst your friends, and maintain your current unreasonable level of life style, without any production of goods and services, then you are robbing your future generations. Since Buhari is so inept at everything, except sharing government money to his friends and family, he is not the one to optimize any loan we take out at this time. |

Though your examples are wrong, I would not waste time addressing them. However, join us and other well meaning Nigerians to urge restructuring so that each city and community can develop at their own pace. Federal location of industries should be based on market forces, and not solely on crude and cheap tribalistic formulas. |

The write up never said an Igbo treaded the girls to Enugu. Despite the huge appetite for anti-Igbo news item, has anyone asked whether the so called Aunty Kiki is Igbo, Yoruba, Fulani, or even a foreigner? The writer knows what a good journalist needs to do for such an important story, and he is yet to do it. Instead of waiting for a full investigation on children trafficking, it's very convenient to mix the story with the so called baby factories in order to bait tribalistic minded shallow readers.
Baby factories are not limited to Enugu or Igbo land for that matter, and as long as all Nigerians can come and go from Enugu, this story has not said an Igbo is involved in child trafficking.
Instead, I will ask which tribe is mostly involved in running IDP camp organizations?
Which tribe is responsible for creating IDPs in the first place.
Facts are facts even in Nigeria. |

Upon all the problem facing our country today, all you can think about is sex, sex, and more sex.
Why don't you think about surviving COVID-19 first, then you think about hunger in the nation, unemployment, economic disasters, Fulani herdsmen, lack of electricity, lack of medical care. Oh, don't forget general insecurity all over the nation!
Let people live, breathe, enjoy sex any how they please. We don't need government regulation of sex based on your narrow religious view! There are many more serious issues facing us than sex. |

fkj950ax: *It is not in the interest of any foreigner to develop our Country.* - - - A. A. Joda.
I have been preaching this for more than 10 yrs. _The story goes : *It is not in the interest of any foreigner to develop our Country.*_
Before Dangote found himself in the Cement Industry, the two biggest Cement Companies in the World were Operating small plants - the biggest at that time was about 300,000 MT per annum. These two Companies were Blue Circle ( UK) and La farge ( France). They later merged.
*They were producing small quantities of Cement in Nigeria and flooding the market with Cement from their other plants around the world, at the same time, they were looking at us eye to eye telling us that they are investors in Nigeria.*
Fast forward: *Dangote got involved in the industry and decided to increase capacity of the plant he bought to 2,000,000 MT per annum*. *Then he built a new plant from scratch ( 5,000,000 MT per annum).*
The next thing that happened is that all other companies had to follow suit. Today we have capacity to export Cement.
The above is a complete Local Investor. He has seen the opportunity that the Foreigners knew, but was never in their interest, and he took the opportunity.
*I can assure you, Dangote doesn’t have any more knowledge than those companies, nor is he smarter than them*. *It is simply an opportunity he took because he is interested and cares about Nigeria.*
Secondly, the Same Dangote is building one of the largest Refineries in the world in Nigeria .
*He is not Smarter than Shell, Mobil, British Petroleum, Total, Agip etc.* *The issue is that all these companies have been operating in Nigeria for more than 60 yrs and never saw it fit to Build a Refinery ( except a 20,000 or so Refinery in PH by Shell in the 60’s for the same reason as above).*
Instead, they prefer to take the crude oil to the refineries around the world , refine it and then sell it back to us. Real reason; they don’t care about you, me or our Country. *They will rather keep us where they want us.*
So I have been talking to many people in Government to realize that the only way we can get out of poverty is to empower our own people to prosper and build an economy.
In short, I always say; *create 10 to 15 Dangotes and see what will happen in our Country.*
We need to empower people and guide them to become what we want, and if any of them is going astray, then seize everything and then reinvest in another.
A system can be put in place to monitor anyone government invests in. Modalities can be set up to make this succeed.
*There is no country in the world that has moved out of poverty by; FDI ( foreign direct investment)*. *Japan, China, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia etc all invested in the people and local capacity.*
*They Thought Out of The Box and disregarded the Western Bullshit of FDI. See where they are today.*
I hope we learn and decide to invest in our people and country.
We have more resources than most parts of the world.
May Allah Guide us. Amin.
A A Joda
*#Shared* Nicely written. Developing our nation is better achieved by competitive enterprises of the citizens, not by direct government selection of a preferred 'entrepreneur' such as Dangote. Before Nnamdi Kalu comment on Dangote, you should have read what Bloomberg wrote about him-Dangote a few years ago. The paper accused Dangote of corrupt practices ranging from loan sharking, tax evasion, and cheap monopoly using the influence of corrupt Nigerian politicians. Dangote himself knows this. That's why he doesn't talk where Salim Salim of Mexico talks, or Amazon Jeff Bezos, or even Bill Gates. Anybody can become a billionaire with cheap government monopoly. |

Admirable! Any time citizens rise up to do something for themselves, instead of waiting for government, I say good job.
For the citizens to put something together to help them survive their environment, it excellent. That's how cities grow and develop. In Nigeria we're waiting for someone to come from Abuja.
Well, the man from Abuja is corrupt, criminally inept, and doesn't have the interest of citizens at heart. |

This is one of the major reasons why Asari dokubo had a face off with Nnamdi kanu over his favoritism for judaism and disdain for Islam. Even one Mr ikechukwu also had a faceoff with the ipob leader over his inflammatory comments about Christianity and for smearing the personality of Apostle Johnson sulaiman. I only brought out the current state of ui cuz apparently this “innocuous” article which is fake and lie by the way try to undermine a lot of projects that happened in the western region by talking about a lot of the stuff done in the eastern region still standing strong today. Tell me what resources of unn was taking to abu and ui can u list it cuz ui has always been the best university in the country for a long time. And am not asking for ipob stats but real sources about what resources was taking From unn. It all makes sense now: you simply argue without facts or evidence. Anybody who was at ABU in the 1980s when I was there would have unquestionably noted library books with UNN stamps all over the pages. UNN didn't dash ABU these books of course, they were looted by the army and transferred to ABU who then shamelessly placed them directly on the shelves. I have no first hand experience with UI, but the story goes the same. Some of your points are without merit at best, or even criminal at worst. |

Moneywomen17: ode is that the source I ask for. something we both know no professor wrote u slowpoke. USA is the largest economy in the world but can u tell me when last it was recorded as the fastest growing economy. It’s a fact that the western region was the best economy back then it doesn’t matter if it’s not the fastest growing cuz it has already achieved its growth to an extent. The only achievement of the eastern region was that it was the fastest growing for just one year what an achievement. Even the British wrote about how jealous ur leaders are about the wealth of the western region. Also can u compare UI to unn today. This otherwise innocuous article has brought the worst out of some people. While the article compares UNN vs UI 1960s, your small mind can't even understand the basic concept. You can't compare UI with UNN today, because everyone knows that UNN resources were carted off to ABU and UI during the war. Today, UNN still doesn't receive as much federal money as UI. Is the concept of fairness and independence new to you? Next you will compare infrastructures of the eastern region with those of Lagos today, so that you can congratulate yourself! Something tells me that you are not just educated enough to even speak to. |

You make a half hearted attempt to deflect the fact that the eastern region was the strongest growing economy in the World at that time: you countered that poor countries like Ethiopia often had fast growing economies, but you stupidly failed to address the point under discussion, instead you aver that being the fastest growing economy means nothing. Can you imagine where the western government of Awolowo was evaluated the fastest growing economy? You guys will dance on the streets for a long time. In this case, it is not only bad news for you, but you have to find some non existent reasons to discredit it. While you're busy looking for a quick poison to end your misery, please also verify that UNN did beat out Ibadan in professional academic performances during that period! What a waste |
