He has presidential powers but he is the president of an overpopulated very poor African country. He can't get much done with the best will in the world. His successor will suffer the same fate.
It is the Nigerian people that can collectively change Nigeria not one stupid man at the top! When that stupid man pretended to be smart, to know the answers to the questions about Nigeria, and when he was trusted with the office, now you realize that he is stupid, or did he deceive you? |

I too believe that you do not have to reauthor history for the sake of self-determination [ana m ekwuru ụnụ, ndị "Igbo bụ Otu"]. However, at this point right now, we are clearly discussing something that has already happened. The how's and the why's are not as important as the reality of what faces us now, being that Ikwerre succeeded, and that is really all that matters. Your pro-Ikwerre efforts will be in vain if you think that history is not important, and that after a mere 50 year hiatus, that Ikwerre has "succeeded " This is very myopic, and I am not surprised, because unlike many normal people, some Ikwerre leaders have no concept of long term consequences. That is why they could steal someone 's house in the name of abandoned property, and expect everything to be ok for them, their children, and grand children. |

Has wishing anyone death been codified into a crime in Nigeria?
Please lawyers in the house, answer the question, because I know that planning, executing, and carrying out death threats is a crime.
When has someone's subconscious feelings and ideas risen to the level of a statutory crime? Also , how does a person determine that another wishes him death, and therefore needs to counter attack? |

Politics › Re: Criticize President Buhari: Don't Insult Him by eagleu: 7:36pm On Mar 28, 2020 |
Kayceenaz: It is becoming almost second nature for most Nigerians, both the educated and non-educated classes, to cross the line while pouring out their hearts on national issues. I agree, there are ample question marks on how the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has acted on and reacted to socio-political, economic, and religious matters; spanning from federal character, insurgency, ethno-religious skirmishes, education, malfeasance, to now presidential invisibility before this coronavirus pandemic.
Naturally, we feel betrayed, used, and insignificant to the presidency. Not paling in comparison to status-quo that should be, your feelings are indeed valid. But letting this emotional pain lead you to hurl insults of all sorts at President Buhari, as rampant online, is an overreaction. As you call him unprintable, reprehensible names and ridicule him through jokes/memes, remember he is fallible, someone's husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and holds office of President of Nigeria. It is enough to beg to differ with and criticize constructively his leadership style plus policies. Using constitutional and moral means to show displeasure are in order. Look emotional intelligence's way.
Disturbingly, some people even wish Buhari death, hoping news of his demise filters in soonest. If that's not a representation of the Scriptures' observation that "The heart of man is desperately wicked," then it must be of something worse. If you fall in this category, kindly stop now! Such comments are humor taken too far.
As events unfold and we watch with disappointment, anticipating the National Assembly does the needful and saves the day, let us (Nigerians) amplify our voices to be critically loud enough, not insulting enough.
©Kaycee Naze, Rational Pen. Another BMO poster on the loose. Insult is very subjective in interpretation, and you know it. Criticizing without crossing your red line of so- called insult is called dictatorship, like in north Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and other backward nations. Buhari and his team came into office calling GEJ all sorts of unprintable names privately and publicly, now you want to change the rules of the game during a match? |
Politics › Re: I Didnt Know Gov Nyesom Wike Is Of Igbo Descent by eagleu: 4:11am On Mar 27, 2020 |
ChinenyeN: Sigh. So you're one of the "Igbo bụ Igbo" types ehn nụ? Propaganda has been running strong with you all since the post-war aftermath. Being "Igbo" pre-war was simply because that is what the British said. We just continued about our business despite it. Hence, indifferent. However, being "Igbo" now is a consequence of the choices that were made during and after the war.
We are now choosing to actively draw a line and pick one side or the other (nonsensically). Origin has nothing to do with what side was picked, and (listen well), ORIGIN DOES NOT MATTER. Sentiment and self-determination is really what matters here and that is what won out in the end. So quit this waste of a mantra that you call "Igbo bụ Igbo", and leave those who found themselves on the other side of the line alone. I do understand sentiment, self-determination, and even self preservation. You don't have to do it by distorting history--- that's cheap, deceitful, and outrageously wrong! You can blame the British for caving PH, and Ikwerre people under Owerri province, but you shouldn't blame anybody for making 1900 to 1960 Ikwerres declare themselves Igbos in various easily traceable documents all over the eastern region. Ikwerre ethnic propaganda, like all historical accounts of betrayal and sabotage show that Ikwerre woke up after the war to change their ethnicity to Bini, as a way to regain lands previously sold to Igbos in PH, steal Igbo properties as abandoned property, and look good in the eyes of Igbo oppressors. That's ok, that's self preservation, but how long will psuedo educated Elechis, and Orijis if this World advance untenable theory to justify their sabotage of Igbos during and after the war? Just like Ikwerre people have a need for self determination, Igbos too have a need to focus on those who are Igbos, want to be Igbos, and proud to be Igbo! That's why Igbo b'Igbo is what matters. When things change again, and Ikwerre people produce yet another theory of their ethnicity, Igbos who are Igbos will still be watching them. |
Politics › Re: I Didnt Know Gov Nyesom Wike Is Of Igbo Descent by eagleu: 2:04am On Mar 27, 2020 |
ChinenyeN: This is not true at all. Prior to the war, most people were indifferent about the "Igbo" tag. It was primarily only literature writers, linguists, academics and the devout Christians who were mostly involved with using the term to within their circles. The war drew a concrete line in the sand and forced people to choose sides. We are living that consequence right now. You are either one side or the other. That is what happened. There's no such thing as "deniers" when it comes to this. There's nothing like "indifferent " to the question of being Igbo or not. Before the war: Ogoni people identified themselves as Ogoni, though they spoke Igbo. Ijaw people, the same. Efik people the same. Ikwerre people who still have relatives in many Igbo towns, identified as Igbos before the war, simply began to deny, equivocate, and then purposefully began to confuse their younger ones about their origin, because Igbos lost the war, and the benefits of identifying as non Igbo suddenly outweighed the reverse. Even Ijaw people know that Ikwerres are simply playing a game. Igbo b'Igbo is really what matters, not the maddening unreliable crowd out there. |

Dedetwo: You have excellently captured the conflict of the ongoing debate in a nutshell. The Igbo phobia seen in southern Nigeria was planted by the British colonial masters. It was even extended to southern Cameroon. When NDC and COR were in vogue, the so-called minorities did tell anyone that they were losing election to fellow village folks and to Igbo. Good point |
Politics › Re: I Didnt Know Gov Nyesom Wike Is Of Igbo Descent by eagleu: 12:36am On Mar 27, 2020 |
pazienza: It is not always that black and white. The Ukelle men in Effium, Ntezi and Okpoto in Ebonyi are all proud Igbos today, despite not speaking Igbo as their first language. What do you have to say about this? I have one of them as my friend, and he carries Igbo matter on his head like gala. Always naturally feel he has to show more pro Igbo character, to be fully accepted as an Igbo. Such people are real Igbos and are more important and useful for achieving Igbo agenda than an Ijaw man in Opobo /Bonny who speaks Igbo as first language, or a Bini man in a Rumu Ikwerre village, who speak a corrupted version of Igbo language as first language, don't you think so? Think about it more. Your exam with Ebonyi people is wrong, because they speak a variation or a dialect of Igbo. You can not honestly say that they don't speak Igbo. Unlike Ikwerre man whose father, grandfather, and great grandfather spoke Igbo, other ethnic minorities in the former eastern Nigeria might have spoken Igbo as a condition of their citizenship of belonging to the region, the same way many minorities of the north spoke Hausa. However, they always have a mother tongue spoken by their grandparents before the creation of the region's. So, when revisionists weave the baseless argument that language is not a major defining qualification for a tribe, educated people know better. Ikwerre man whose forebears spoke Igbo can't compare his lineage with say an Ijaw or Efik man whose parents spoke Igbo as a member of eastern Nigeria. |
