Congratulations... You just got yourself a bird of prey. I remembered the first time I caught exactly this bird(a falcon), I taught it was a witchcraft bird that got caught up in a fight and lost. I didn't even know what it eats at first, so I gave it a dead cockroach which it rejected. Until I saw an unlucky wall gecko which the bird devoured at once. Sad thing was that the next day, I didn't see the falcon again which increased my suspicion of it being a witchcraft bird |

Christianity Etc › 'Cannabis burned during worship' by ancient Israelites by Eaztzide(op): 1:13pm On May 29, 2020 |
Ancient Israelites burned cannabis as part of their religious rituals, an archaeological study has found.A well-preserved substance found in a 2,700-year-old temple in Tel Arad has been identified as cannabis, including its psychoactive compound THC. Researchers concluded that cannabis may have been burned in order to induce a high among worshippers. This is the first evidence of psychotropic drugs being used in early Jewish worship, Israeli media report. The temple was first discovered in the Negev desert, about 95km (59 miles) south of Tel Aviv, in the 1960s. In the latest study, published in Tel Aviv University's archaeological journal, archaeologists say two limestone altars had been buried within the shrine. Thanks in part to the dry climate, and to the burial, the remains of burnt offerings were preserved on top of these altars. Frankincense was found on one altar, which was unsurprising because of its prominence in holy texts, the study's authors told Israeli newspaper Haaretz. However, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabinol (CBN) - all compounds found in cannabis - were found on the second altar. The study adds that the findings in Tel Arad suggest that cannabis also played a role in worship at the Temple of Jerusalem. This is because at the time the shrine in Arad was part of a hilltop fortress at the southern frontier of the Kingdom of Judah, and is said to match a scaled-down version of Biblical descriptions of the First Temple in Jerusalem. The temple of Jerusalem is now inaccessible to archaeologists, so instead they study Arad and other similar shrines to help them understand worship at the larger temple. Source : www.bbc.com

NairaLEARN: USA, How The White Sees The Black In The United State and How Black Sees White In Africa
By Nairalearn
Black people in the United States have known racism since they were born, and they can see it from a distance, and often rally against someone who is amplifying racism and behind someone who is fighting it .
The Black people in Africa have experienced racism as well, although indirectly, but they think they have not.
The white people black people in Africa get to know are diplomats and tourists, or businesspeople who are making a lot of money and therefore, like diplomats and tourists, appear to be just nice, very nice.
While the Black people in Africa hardly see a white person go to a black person's house and assassinate them and claim they thought they were in their house, or another one jogging, and they eliminate them and say they thought he was a thief, or another one murdered while he's in the car with his girlfriend and complying with all their orders, or even another one running away, or chocked to death by the police while they are handcuffed.
And so the black person in Africa likes the white person, all the white people. Unlike the black person in the United States who will like the white person who is fighting for their cause, the black person in Africa likes all white people,
Democrats and Republicans alike. The policies by those people that affect them are not faraway ideas. It's just like living in Africa and you have never heard of the IMF and even when you have heard of it, it does not cross your mind that almost half of your country's money goes back there to service the debt.
And when I write daily about the IMF, it's almost like a waste of time. What you see is just your 'bad and corrupt' government official. You do not see the big picture.
Often, when those black people come to the United States and see black people here struggling to earn a living, they blame them.
They tend to blame the victims for being lazy, for being wrong. That distance, that view of the United States from cable news or little pieces of content or brief touristic visits where you focus only on the malls, the beautiful roads and your friends, makes it hard to grasp the full picture.
And so that may explain why while black people in America do not seem to back Donald Trump,
While black people in Africa love him. They say he's being tough. When he bans Africans from living in the United States, those black people say he's right.
When he is reported to refer to African nations as a shit-hole, those black people say he's the best and he is saying the truth
When he decides to pull U.S. Troop from Africa or decide no longer to fund the UN for peacekeeping missions in Africa, those black people say he's right, something must be wrong somewhere. It's just like the perpetrator and the victim. At some point, the victim begins to justify the behaviors by the perpetrator. To be continued.
From
Nairalearn.com You were making sense until you decided to bring Donald Trump into this matter. Robert Mugabe was doing the same thing Trump was doing and nobody called him racist. Who told you that he stopped funding UN peacekeeping missions in Africa. Even if he did, it wasn't in Africa alone. Who told you that there ain't no black American that likes Trump or white American that dislikes him. Donald Trump is doing what the founding fathers of the US did. Mind you, he's going to win the next election whether you like it or not. Stop spreading hate speech. Peace out. |
Sports › Coronavirus Football: FC Seoul Apologises For 'sex Dolls' In Stands by Eaztzide(op): 5:42pm On May 18, 2020*. Modified: 8:49pm On May 18, 2020 |
It is a challenge for sports leagues across the world - if play can only resume in empty stadiums, how can the atmosphere be improved? However, not many clubs will be rushing to follow the example of FC Seoul. The top-flight South Korean side has apologised after fans accused them of using sex dolls in the stands. FC Seoul insisted they were "premium mannequins" rather than sex dolls - but did admit they came from a supplier that produces intimacy gadgets. And some of the dolls were holding signs advertising x-rated websites - despite pornography being banned in South Korea. The mannequins' manufacturer told the BBC they had apologised to FC Seoul. But they also reiterated that the dolls were merely "premium mannequins". What happened at the match? On Sunday, FC Seoul played their first home match of the K League season. The ground was empty - one of many measures designed to prevent a Covid-19 outbreak. So before the match, a company called Dalcom offered to fill some of the empty seats, and the club agreed. In total, there were 30 mannequins - 28 of them female, and two of them male. However, fans watching online noticed that some of the mannequins looked more like sex dolls - and some were advertising x-rated websites - leading to the club apologising on Instagram and Facebook. Dalcom said the adverts came from a intimacy gadget company who placed orders with Dalcom, and wanted to take pictures of the mannequins before the game. "They were supposed to take all the logos down before the game started," Dalcom director Cho Young-june told the BBC. "But there were several hairbands and logos left to be caught by public eye." FC Seoul official Lee Ji-hoon told the BBC it didn't do a background check on Dalcom, and didn't realise they worked in the sex industry. Mr Lee admitted he thought the dolls looked "very human" - but said it didn't even enter his mind that they could be intimacy gadgets. When did football resume in South Korea? The 2020 K League season was supposed to begin in February but was delayed because of the virus outbreak. But South Korea's success in fighting the virus allowed football to resume sooner than almost everywhere else. And, when the season began on 8 May, the K League was one of the few places for sports fans to get their fix - leading to increased global attention. The opening match - Jeonbuk Motors versus Suwon Bluewings - was even streamed live by the BBC. As well as empty stands, handshakes are banned, and coaches have to wear facemasks. "Excessive spitting or blowing of the nose is prohibited and players should refrain from close conversations," said a K League official before the first match. Source: www.bbc.com |
Travel › Re: Diary Of A Nigeria Student Living In Saint Petersburg, Russia. by Eaztzide: 9:15pm On May 15, 2020 |
TochiPhotos: The lockdown period in Russia has been extended to at least June 1st. This is because the cases have been rising at very fast rate. We currently have over 262,000 cases in Russia and around 2,400 deaths. It's been a crazy past few weeks.
We still take classes and tests online now. We had a test today on Economic Statistics. 100 questions in 70 mins. Omo I was still at number 37 before time was up. I don't know how the lecturer thought we could possibly answer 100 difficult questions in 70 minutes. The test is 10% of our grade and I'm still upset about it.
I recently visited my friends in the Dacha in a village outside Saint Petersburg. It's technically still in Saint Petersburg, but it's called Leningrad Oblast. I spent an entire day with them, exploring the woods, hiking, and just enjoying nature. I also made a cool interview video which I've posted on my channel. So please check it out if you're interested.
It's been really difficult for me to sleep at night these days because right now the sunrises as early as 3am which means once it's 3 in the morning, the sun is out and everywhere becomes bright. Here in Russia, during the winter, we usually don't see up to 4 hours of daylight so we basically have around 20 hours of darkness during the winter.
While in Spring and Summer time, the sunsets around 10pm and rises around 3am. Around June or July, we will literary have white nights when the entire Saint Petersburg goes for weeks without darkness, even at night, everywhere will be bright. I still haven't gotten used to this.
First two pictures were taking around 9pm and the third was around 10pm this is what I was describing above.
Last picture was me riding a bicycle to the woods with my friends.
I hope you guys are staying safe and healthy? Have a lovely weekend Y'all Legend has it that the reason for so is because the sun always love to see such beauty and serenity in those developed countries and so, it doesn't want to go and when it goes, it always wants to come back. Unlike here in Africa that there's nothing to see. Lol Just kidding tho |

Business › Coronavirus: Amazon Boss Jeff Bezos Adds $24bn To Fortune by Eaztzide(op): 2:37pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
The founder and boss of Amazon has seen his wealth swell by $24bn (£19bn) after soaring demand for online shopping sent the firm's share price to a new high. Jeff Bezos now has a fortune of $138bn, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, cementing his position as the world's richest man. Amazon has benefited from surging internet shopping by people forced to stay home during the Covid-19 outbreak. The firm has been recruiting thousands of workers to cope with demand. However, Amazon has also been criticised by employees in the US over workplace protection against the coronavirus. Mr Bezos owns an 11% stake in Amazon and on Tuesday, the firm's shares rose by 5.3%. The family behind retail giant Wal-Mart, which owns Asda in the UK, have also gained during the lockdown. The Waltons saw their net worth rise 5% this year to $169bn, making them the world's richest family, according to Bloomberg. With millions now working from home, online meeting site Zoom has seen founder Eric Yuan's fortune more than double to $7.4bn. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index said the world's 500 richest people lost $553bn so far this year. Investors in the global oil and gas industries have seen sharp drops in net worth as crude prices plunged on reduced global demand and a row - now resolved - about oil production between Saudi Arabia and Russia. Rise to fame Mr Bezos started Amazon in 1995 with about $100,000 in personal and family money. He quit a hedge fund job at the age of 30 after coming across a statistic about the rapid growth of the internet. He was joined by his wife, MacKenzie, whom he met while they were both working at the New York hedge fund, DE Shaw. They have four children. The couple were divorced in 2019 in a split widely covered by the business media. MacKenzie's $38bn settlement included a 4% stake in Amazon. Within a month of the launch, he had already shipped orders to all 50 states and 45 countries, according to a 2013 biography by Brad Stone entitled The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon. In Amazon's first five years, customer accounts jumped from 180,000 to 17 million. Sales skyrocketed from $511,000 to more than $1.6bn. Big-name investors flocked to the company amid the first wave of dotcom enthusiasm. It went public in 1997, raising $54m and turning Mr Bezos, who once helped to box up the book orders, into one of the world's richest men before the age of 35. In 1999, Time Magazine named him one of its youngest People of the Year to date, dubbing him the "king of cybercommerce". Source: www.bbc.com

Chiggsglover: I came across something that I never believed I will see in a western world. That's the game I see my sisters play with my neighbors when we were younger. It's very common when we go to the village for our December flexing. I was kinda surprised actually. I saw something white adult folks that passed the markings do the dance by walking in the boxes in the number series. It was fun tho. I think the game is called hopscotch. From the name, you can tell it's not only restricted to Nigeria |

Chiggsglover: Lol, my phone wasn't charging o, when I was coming, I left all my power bank with my sisters, they need it more.
I took a screenshot of the original image so it can be uploaded on this platform. When I usually screenshot them, I usually plug my phone to my laptop at every given time so safe current will keep it fully charged. I can leave the house at any given time and I need my phone at the maximum power level. The easiest way to get lost is when your battery is flat. To save yourself, you have to find a place to charge which is extremely hard. As we need the Google map to navigate our way. Theres a satisfaction that comes when you arrive your destination with the aid of the map. It feels great I tell you, more like the zap you get when Nepa bring light. Good. Who wants to get lost during this period |

oluwaseyi000:
Why we were fired? I joined this company last year, few days after finishing my NYSC, they have the highest number of software developers in Africa and I was loving life, the salary is great with breakfast and lunch
They keep on employing so many software engineer with time the engineer become more than the available job, I saw it coming but I don't know what the board was thinking
2. How did the firing process happen? We have a global (online) meeting which people are asked not to miss, I was not even listening very well to what they are saying, the president said there are more developer than engagement to they have to let some people go, a mail was sent to all impacted people and I discovered what has just happened
Almost 400 people has been fired across Africa
3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?
The company is actually a great one, they brought in pychologist to speak with us, bring in different recruiter, and other stuff, most importantly the payoff was reasonable that I can afford a Mac laptop of almost half-a-million
Luckily for me I got another reasonable job in less than 3 weeks of been retrenched
I always laugh when people complain there is no job in Nigeria, less than 5 month after leaving my previous company I have turned down almost 4 other offers some even paying than my current one
I so much saw the retrenchment coming that I once created a similar thread as this https://www.nairaland.com/5352267/why-how-loose-last-job
The company you speak about sounds like Andela. Just saying |
