Marytee2: Urgent please!!! A friend is to travel to the UK in 2 days time and just realised his passport will expire in February. He has 2 years UK visit visa and wants to spend only 4 weeks. He will be back before his visa expires. Will this era of long wait to renew passport, can he still use this passport or must the passport have a 6 months validity to enter UK? Thanks This question is very subjective. Most countries require your passport to have at least 6 months validity to apply for a visa but the rule of validity at the point the passport/visa is being used is not clear. I was in this situation in November and could not get a clear response even when I contacted British Airways. A few people advised that since it was to enter the UK, I could use the passport but I just decided to get a new passport and was lucky to get it out in one week just before I travelled. |

Kzinne: Hi everyone. Pls what's the likelihood of getting the 2 year post study work visa after completing a degree in the United kingdom? Is it automatic? Thanks As long as you successfully complete your degree as evidenced by the letter sent to UKVI by your school, pay the required fee and have not breached any of your student visa rules ( eg working more than 20 hours during term time), you are 99 % sure of getting the PSW visa. |

dexpendable: For people getting married after visa approval, please do you have to change the marital status on the data Page of the passport or just leave as it is Does the data page of Passports make provision for martial status? Never noticed that before. If your actual question is if you need to change your name or get a new passport because you married, you don't need to. There is no Nigerian law that says you must change your name because you are married. Been married for over 8 years and never changed my name on my passports and have been getting visas without any issues. |

missy24: Pls help ‼️‼️‼️‼️
I’m a lady and have my student visa already and due to travel by end of the year but got married after my visa application. My husband would be joining me in a month as a dependant but he has kids from another although not married to her. Can his kids be added as our dependants as he’s fully responsible for their upkeep but they won’t be joining us anytime but solely responsible for them? My marriage certificate says *Single father with children* while mine says * Spinster* but we are now officially married.
Do you think he should add them as dependent or remove since they won’t be traveling with him and won’t there be any issue for visa approval?
Pls I’m so confused about this I would advise that he states his children's details in his application whether he intends to travel with them now or not. If he wants to apply with them now, he would need a document from the court confirming that he has sole custody of the children and that document must be attached to the application along with your marriage certificate showing that he is married to you. If he does not want to travel with them now, by including their details in his application, he has already declared them and it would make things easier when he actually wants to bring them over. If things are still confusing for you, you might want to enlist the service of a UK immigration lawyer. That way you know all loose ends would be tied. All the best. |

Aprokodaughter: You can't use 20hours to complete your school fees. Your studies will lack behind because you want to make up for the school fees and that will be another trouble for you. Make sure you get your fees together because it's not funny over there.
Have you thought of how you will feed yourself, clothing not to talk of accomodations. Not that you will come here and start shouting accommodation is expensive when you did not put that into your budget.
Or the best you can do apply for scholarships if your undergraduate grades are very good. Spot on. This is the ideal answer to this question. People keep thinking that it is easy to find a good job, work and deal with the demands of assignments/ projects while studying. It is not impossible but it is certainly far from easy. I should know because I am a current student. £8.91 -11 job per hour which is one of the commonest pay band for the kind of jobs available to students realistically cannot be used to offset school fees. The poster could manage that for living expenses provided he/she is living a very modest lifestyle and living in a cheap accommodation. Please have 90% of your school fees at the least (if not all) before you leave Nigeria. |

isialo: Hi, I am widowed with a 7yo and 10yo. Pls what documents do i require for their visa processing and how possible is it for me to combine their care with school and work. Your prompt responses are highly solicited please. 1. You need to provide their birth certificate and a copy of the death certificate of your late husband when applying for them. Optionally you can also add a letter from their school confirming that you have sole responsibility for them. 2. It would not be easy but It is not impossible. You must remember that it is a breach of UK laws to leave them alone at home because they are minors. If you have to go somewhere without them, they must be in school or with a caregiver/ babysitter which costs are not easy, so factor that into your financial planning. If your mum is still alive and strong, perhaps you can bring her over to assist with their care when you are at work or school. All the best. |

Newwoman: Please is there any advantage of travelling 1 and a half month after the visa has been issued. this is for dependent via thanks. 3 things come to my mind but of course others may have different or additional advantages in mind. 1. You save costs that you would have otherwise incurred if you were in the UK. Remember when you are in the UK you would be spending pounds you converted from Naira. 2. You still fall within the timeframe that would qualify for dependent post study work visa. 3. You give the principal applicant time to settle in before your arrival so they are in a better place psychologically and financially to take care of you before you get a job (if the dependent is an adult ) or enough time to do research before you enrol the dependent in school (if a child). |

Menab: nairalanders, I have been down and crying since morning as my little sister whom I am a legal guardian to got her visa refused. The little girl is down. When I got a no straight forward email for her, I thought she will later get the visa and hence travel with my son so as to meet up with school deadline.. this morning I got a refusal letter for her. please help advise if you can, should I do administrative review? if yes, what are the steps. Already called my lawyer as asked why the legal papers couldn't be verified? as far as I know, everything is genuine, had several court sittings before guardianship was given. please advise as I am loosing it.. Also since I have traveled, how do I proceed with the AR in respect of taking her passport back if they eventually grant the visa? my whole world is crashing. please find attached reasons for refusal. reason I didn't mention her in my previous applications were because I hadn't applied for legal guardianship for her. a big mistake I made So sorry to hear about your predicament. My two cents...don't do anything on your own going forward. Consult a UK based immigration lawyer that is familiar with cases such as yours and would give you accurate advice. NOT A NIGERIAN LAWYER practicing in Nigeria. Keep us updated on developments. God will make a way. |

Adeabike: Good afternoon everyone, I'm applying to University of Hull. I'm married but I'm yet to change me name and my passport still carries my maiden name. Am I to fill my name as seen on my int'l passport? Also, there are options for Ms, Miss and Mrs, why should I use? Thanks There is no legal requirement to change your name when you get married. Fill your name as in your passport. I have been married for 8 years and never changed my name. I have used several passports in my maiden name since I got married and have never been denied a visa. Use 'Ms' for your prefix. It is used for people who do not want to be identified as married or single and also people who are married but did not change their names. |

Was the visa approved? I don't know if someone has already given you an appropriate response to your enquiry since it has been almost 2 weeks since you posted this . I would still share something that would be useful to you and/ or someone else. I applied with my daughter and it was quite an experience inspite of the fact that her father signed 2 consent letters. One jointly with me and another solely signed by him. Way forward - Inaddition to the consent letter signed by her father (if he is still in the picture) , obtain a document endorsed by the çourt confirming that you have sole responsibility for your baby's upbringing. In response to your specific question, my daughter's visa was approved but after several back and forths. I even involved a UK based immigration lawyer. Yes I did not want any stories that touch the heart so as soon as I received a non straightforward mail, I involved a professional. All the best. |

Timeline for getting an offer depends on the particular school.
As for applying for the visa, you can only start the process 6 months before the official date of commencement of studies at the school. |

SirWellington: Anyone with a substantive idea please. Thank you all Except you have serious concerns about your application eg maybe you have been refused visas by the UK or other countries previously, you were previously married to someone else and it is in the UKVI records or you have something unfavourable against you in their records, and you need to have an airtight case on your marital status, I believe you should be okay with just 1. All the other documents listed from 2 below can be sent if the UKVI sends you a mail requesting for additional information to prove your marital status. All the best with your application. |

Note that he used an agent to apply and therefore didn't get any refusal letter from the agent.
Please, no abuse. You can just say 'Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) discretion.' |

You may be lucky, the day I did mine they didn't use the list, and I am not sure they attended to every person that came in for walk-in that day, I was the last person they attended to, I was lucky to have done mine same day cos some persons said yhey've been trying to do it since the previous monday. Peacecharles: The application state if I was traveling with my dependants, they choose the No answer and secondly They used an account statement of 12m on my application and I got the visa. After I got the visa, instead of advising me to transfer the fund to my dependant account, they said I should print the same account statement I used but this time it should be a different date.i did so,my dependants applied and they were refused. Because of that my Visa was cancelled with a ten years band. I was invited for an interview,I told them it was my agent that handle the application and that was what I was advised to do.it was still a refusal but this time the ten years band was cancelled .someone introduced me to narialand, have really learnt a lot here. This is painful. Sorry about this. Disappointing as the turnout of events, delay is not denial...at least the 10 years ban has been reversed (which would have been really bad if not). All the best during your next admission and visa processes. |

cedar3: VISA ALERT! VISA ALERT!! VISA ALERT!!!
Finally, it's my turn to testify! My story with UKVI is finally loaded, done and dusted! I've been quite busy since last week to pen this down. Priority Service, Walk in Application: 02/09 Biometrics: 03/09 Transfered to DMC: 03/09 Received at DMC: 06/09 NSFM: 08/09 Transfered to VAC: 23/09 Received at DMC: 23/09 Collection mail: 23/09 Collected: 24/09 I went to TLS Ikeja on 02/09/21 to get a space for walkin the next day, even though I haven't even applied for Visa yet, I haven't even gotten my CAS by then! I requested for my bank statement and got same around 6pm, while at TLS. I forwarded same to my school and received my CAS around 8pm same night. There and then at TLS, I started the application, finished and paid all the fees, got 15/09 as my date but had planned walk in the next day 03/09. My school agent adviced that since I didn't perform any transaction on my day1, I shouldn't use that bank statement as some people were recently refused cos the ECO mistaken used the dates of transaction instead of the dates stated as the acct summary dates, but I refused and went ahead to use same statement, running from 05/08 to 02/09. After the NSFM and wahala recounted earlier, the waiting was something else. 5working days turned to 15working days. Every day was excruciatingly painful and filled with anxiety, only those who have experienced it will understand. Thanks to @corpershaun, I sent a mail to Pretoria on 22/08 which resulted in getting my collection mail the next day. Truly, what God cannot do does not exist!
Thanks to all who I reached out to during that period.
For those still waiting, just hold your peace and be positive.
DON'T TOUCH YOUR FUNDS TILL YOUR VISA IS OUT OR YOUR ACCOUNT IS VERIFIED, WHICHEVER COMES EARLIER! Congratulations. |

LagosismyHome: It is very difficult to get your daughter a dependent visa if her father not applying... consent letters i seen all lead to rejection for single parents.
If you are now a single parent the only work around is getting the legal sole custody papers... meaning if you want to go with her then that what it needs to be Thank you for your advice @LagosismyHome. Prior to receiving your response, I have decided to get her dad involved in the application process and save my daughter any possibility of rejection. It is apparently the easiest way forward. |

sniperaz: To be candid, within the duty of care, its very unlikely that they would approve the visa of a dependent child if only one of the parent is travelling. (Unless there's a legal document that's granting them sole responsibility in this regard and they are not in any marital union with the other parent f the child.)
For example - in case this is not clear to some people. If two people are married and only one parent has the intention of applying and travelling with their child on a student dependent visa, its more than the case that the parent will be grated the visa but the child would be rejected. You definitely catch my drift. Thanks for lending your voice to the discussion. |
