Are kidding me? grin menh am enjoying this experience.

So I am done with first semester. It has been a long semester tho. I would like to discuss about the exam situation and some cultural shocks experienced.

The German university education is structured in a way that you have to work under time pressure in the exam hall and most times the exam is where you get all your grade for the course (except the professor puts in place some extra bonus schemes).

Owing to this, if you go into the examination hall without profound knowledge, you might woefully fail. Some professors also allow you to come in with cheat sheet(whatever you feel like writing into the exam hall. It is limited to A4 paper front and back).

Good thing and bad thing about exams here is that you can decide to not write the exam even on the day for the examination. All you have to do is go collect sick letter from doctor. Even before the examination, they ask you if you're fit for the exam, else you can leave.

Do you guys remember those days before an examination when they will search you as though you're a terrorist before you enter the hall? Well it doesn't happen here. It was always obvious that we were international students in the examination hall because every other German student often had drinks and snacks in front of them despite the fact that examination is going on. But international students? Nothing dey our front.

And when they are smarter than you n u get caught!!!
undecided

johndoefoo:

What they can't know, they won't know. I am currently employed here, and the employment status will not change on getting to Germany, I will be working remotely and I will still get paid into my Naija's salary's account. I can transfer that to a family, and they should to me via WU. Same route for Freelance job will go.

See, these things... You need to be extra smart. Know that your Internet is being monitored. So use Strong VPN, clear cache, cookies, and use private browser.

If you really don't want to be a slave anywhere in the world you've got to be smart. All business people knows this.

I just had a funny and unscheduled exercise this morning.

I am used to getting to the bustop 1 minute to their arrival time. But the problem with that is, sometimes the buses are always ahead of schedule and I might miss it.

This morning, I did the same thing. Bus was to arrive say 08:20, I left my room 08:18, got close to the bustop 08:19. As I was almost reaching the bustop, I saw the front of the bus. I immediately picked race oh, but the bus driver saw me running and gave me one strange look.

In my mind, I was like this one is among those kind of drivers that see you running towards the bus but won't still stop for you even if you nack your head on the floor while running.

Owning to the fact that missing the bus automatically means my whole plan has been disrupted, I had no choice other than to pick race after the bus to the next bustop.

Na so I start this race oh between bus and foot. As I was running, I checked my phone and the bus was still 1 minute early. I couldn't just process what happened, but the thought of thia disrupting my movement didn't even let me think straight.

When I got to the next bustop guess what happened.........

I ran after a school bus embarassed cry. I felt like I have lost my mind.

Public buses are used as school buses, but the only difference is that the electronic display board on the buses will show a sign of two kids.

When I got there, the bus I thought I missed then came from behind. You need to see how the people on the bus were looking at me.

Reality check.

I am having a challenging stay here in Germany, all thanks to the language. Forget the fact that my program is in English. Getting around here one need Deutsch not just all these Hallo, Guten Morgen and the likes cheesy. Everything is in German, even at the international office in the university, the train, any where here.

There's no doubt that people speak English, but speaking English for Germans is headache because you will even pity them when they speak.

Because of the language, I have been lost many times with trains dividing into two at some stations, not integrating well or being able to express myself. I registered with my school's Language center but it is not an intensive course so the learning process is so slow, I have tried different YouTube channels but the crazy thing is that when I learn in the corners of my room and I get out to converse, I realize they are quite different. I don't even know which approach to give it again.

Not to even mention that I have lost great opportunities to work in good places because of the language. It is so depressing and frustrating. In the trains and buses, I just seat like a deaf and dumb.

I wish I had learnt it in Nigeria but then majority of Africans I have met here said they had to re-learn when they got here because it is quite different from what was taught back home.

Frankfurt is just like Lagos to me. So overcrowded and dirty with almost everyone on the street 'mad'. I walked through Frankfurt street twice at night this week and I keep seeing a lot of homeless people around. Just yesterday, I found myself in one of the red-light zones shocked shocked Jigba is this the same one you talked about in your diary?
