Early this morning there has been several gun shot in the city of Onitsha, Fegge precisely. When I made an enquiry I was told that the youths are now destroying the properties and beating of the Hausa's in Onitsha. As of typing this am indoor, I intended going to Delta state but this incident just cancelled it. This is happening now! Update 11:14 am: They are now being taken over to Asaba by Nigerian army and police for safety. There is now peace in the great city of Onitsha. Army and police has taken over. (I saw them with my two eyes at bridge head on my way to Agbor.) |

In furtherance of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s cashless policy, Verve card will now be accepted in several countries in Europe and America. This became possible as Discover Financial Services (DFS) and Interswitch, the largest integrated payment processing service provider in Nigeria and promoter of the leading card network, Verve, have entered a strategic alliance that will allow acceptance of Discover and Diners Club International (DCI) cards at Interswitch-enabled ATM and point-of-sale (PoS) terminals for purchases in Nigeria, while Verve card will also be accepted in the US, China, Japan, Korea, Serbia and India. This agreement will also allow Verve cardholders to have access to Discover, Diners Club International and PULSE networks for international purchases and cash access outside of Nigeria. “This alliance is significant to Discover’s strategy of creating an alternative global payments network that gives both financial institutions and consumers more choice,” said Diane Offereins, EVP and President of Discover Payment Services. “By partnering with regional payments networks such as Interswitch, Discover is able to leverage its unique set of assets to grow volume, while providing our partners with the global reach and localized preferences and needs they require.” Discover has established network to network alliances across the globe, including in China, Japan, Korea, Serbia and India. These alliances provide valuable access to Discover’s global acceptance footprint and deliver value and volume to merchants and partners. “This alliance is another step in the right direction for Verve. We continue to look for new opportunities to expand our payments network, and our partnership with Discover is an example of that,” said Charles Ifedi, CEO of Verve. “The new agreement with Discover Financial Services provides our issuing members with new options for ATM and POS access around the globe while also giving Verve cardholders what they deserve, more convenience at home and abroad.” “This partnership is a major milestone in our 10-year history. We will also leverage Discover’s suite of solutions to deliver innovative card and electronic payment initiatives across various sectors in the market,” said Mitchell Elegbe, Group MD/CEO, Interswitch. “One of the objectives of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Financial System Strategy 2020 (FSS 2020) is to advance the efficiency of the country’s e-payment systems by reducing the reliance on cash and promoting interoperability among financial institutions. The agreement between Discover and Interswitch will contribute positively towards this vision.” Source: |

I just watched the video now.Channels tv no try all. When they saw what the man was trying to cover up, they themselves knew that the man doesn't know the website, if you look at their faces on the video you will notice it, and they should have covered the man by ignoring their website than making it mandatory and repeating the question. Secondly they shouldn't have publish the video online. Some kids future is at stick here. This has done more harm than good. Although the man should know the website of the organization he is representing but in such situation, I will just take it as a family man (many wahala on the head) moreover he may not be a computer literate. To be honest I laughed when I watched the video and it MUST end there. No more oga at the top, I can sense the pain of the kids and the wife. |

Makurdi – A Makurdi High Court on Friday sentenced a 22-year-old student, Iorver Terver, to 12 years’ imprisonment for rape. Terver, who stood trial on a three -count charge of armed robbery, conspiracy and rape, was said to have conspired with two others to commit the crime in 2009. The two others are Tavershima Weve and one Kelvin, whose surname was unknown. Weve, who was, however, charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, was discharged on both counts at the close of prosecution’s case. Delivering judgment, Justice Elizabeth Kpojime, held that the charge of rape had been proven beyond reasonable doubt against the accused, pointing out that his confession was positive and direct and the evidence of the victim was unshaken. Kpojime ordered that the accused be discharged and acquitted on the allegations of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery but found him guilty of the offence of rape which she said was punishable under Section 283 of the Penal Code. She said the sentence should take effect from the date of his detention in prison. She also ordered him to pay a fine of N10,000 The prosecutor, Mr E.T.C. Akula, called four witnesses and tendered a total of nine exhibits in evidence. The victim, in her oral testimony before the court, explained that she went to her uncle’s house at High Level area of Makurdi on Jan. 4, 2009 and collected N5,000 to go to school the following day. She said on her way back, however, the commercial motorcyclist she engaged refused to take her to her house because it was late. So he dropped her on Bank Road. She said that after she got off the motorcycle, the accused person, who lived in the same area with her at Logo 1 and one Kelvin, attacked her, collected her cellphone and money. She said Kelvin was pointing a gun at her and also holding a bottle which he said contained acid and threatened to pour it on her if she did not cooperate with them. She disclosed that they dragged her to the bush where the two of them tore her clothes and took turns to rape her till 2 a.m. when they released her. She informed her uncle, Mr Solomon Ugese, who took her to the police where she lodged a complaint. The accused person testified for himself and called two witnesses, his mother and brother respectively. (NAN) Sources: www.vanguardngr.com/2013/03/court-jails-student-12-years-for-rape/ |
