Actress Nkechi Sunday Blessing passed out today at the burial ceremony of her mum, Late Mrs. Gloria Obasi Sunday who died in September after a brief illness, IgbereTV reports.

Nkechi cried so much until and she passed out while her mum's body was being taken to her final resting place. Nkechi was however resuscitated by her friends and family.

Sanusi Lamido To Nigerians: We Must Suffer To Get Things Right, Stop Cursing Your Leaders

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has told Nigerians to stop cursing their leaders over hardship, IgbereTV reports.

The former Emir of Kano and leader of the Tijjaniyya Sect in Nigeria, said this while addressing members of the Sect from seven states of the North West, in Sokoto on Tuesday September 21.

According to Sanusi, people must suffer for things to get right. He said;

“In my own knowledge about economy, I know that we must suffer to get things right.

“What is expected of us now is patient, fervent prayers and we must stand up to get things better in our own way through a legitimate ways.

“We must desist from abusing or cursing our leaders because the Holy Prophet is against that.

Man Bags 28 Years Imprisonment For Killing Female Lawyer In Lagos Hotel Room (Photos)

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Tuesday, September 21, sentenced a 23-year-old chef, Joshua Usulor, to 28 years imprisonment for killing a lawyer, Mrs Feyisayo Obot in a Lagos hotel room, IgbereTV reports.

Joshua Usulor brutally murdered the 34-year-old mother of two on January 26, 2019, at the Citiheights Hotel, Opebi, Lagos State, where both of them lodged in different rooms.

Mrs. Obot, an employee of an Abuja-based non-governmental organisation, Save the Children, was in Lagos to write a project management examination.

The prosecution, led by Mrs O.A. Bajulaiye-Bishi, had said that Usulor, a resident of Number 30, Fadiya Street, Ketu, Lagos, sneaked into the deceased's hotel room to steal her money and her phones in order to offset his outstanding hotel bill.

The deceased struggled with him but was overpowered. He then stabbed her with a sharp knife on the stomach and used the same knife to slit her throat. Satisfied that the woman was dead, he made away with her phones and a cash sum of twenty six thousand Naira (26,000).

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime. He said he has never met Ms Obot until the day he attacked her and that he was motivated to rob the deceased to enable him offset his hotel bill having spent two days above the one day he paid for.

Usulor was arraigned on a count charge of murder contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced Usulor after he approached the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for a plea bargain agreement in which he would plead guilty to the crime.

The DPP had in the agreement approved a term of 21 years’ imprisonment which would begin from the date of Usulor’s remand.

However, during Tuesday’s proceedings, the judge rejected the proposed prison term, saying that it was too lenient.

The judge said she would exercise the power conferred on her by Section 75 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law to increase the prison term to 30 years.

She eventually reduced Usulor’s prison sentence to 28 years following plea for leniency by his counsel, Mr Spurgeon Ataene.

In the plea, Ataene told the court to temper justice with mercy. He submitted that Usulor was remorseful, adding that he was a young man with a promising future.

While sentencing Usulor, Taiwo asked why he killed the lawyer.

“It was a mistake, I didn’t know what got into me,” he responded.

“Your mistake has cost someone her life,” the judge said.

The prosecution was still presenting witnesses in the case when Usulor proposed a plea bargain agreement.

Prosecution witnesses who testified during the trial were – the hotel receptionist, Ms Lateefat Adebayo; the hotel’s Operations Manager, Mr Olabanji Ibitunde; brother of the deceased, Mr Ige Afolabi; and the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector John Babalola.

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed two unidentified young men in Awka, the Anambra State capital, IgbereTV reports.

IgbereTV gathered that the incident occurred around 11:am on Tuesday, September 21, opposite Udoka housing estate, along Enugu-Onitsha expressway, close to the NNPC mega petrol station, Awka.

A witness said the victims were shot at close range by their assailants before they drove off.

“I saw them. They just shot the two guys who were businessmen in the area and drove off. Nothing was taken from them. I suspect it’s a case of assassination or business rivalry." the witness told newsmen.

However, spokeperson of the State Police Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident said the killings was as a result of two rival cult clashes.

He explained that the gunmen who drove in a Mercedes 190 car, shot their victims who were walking on the street around 12.30 pm and drove off to an unknown destination.

"Preliminary investigation showed it was a case of rival cult war." Ikenga stated.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Tony Olofu, had ordered the CPS Division Awka, to commence the investigation.

Meanwhile, the corpses of the unidentified men have been removed from the scene by men of the Police Command.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects who stabbed one Mohammed Sulaiman to death and made away with his mobile phone, IgbereTV reports.

The suspects also confessed to have attacked one Kingsley Sunday and took away his mobile phone

Spokesperson of the command, DSP DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Monday, September 20, said the suspected phone snatchers were arrested for "armed robbery and culpable homicide"

"On the 19/09/2021 at about 2300 hours, a report was received that some hoodlums attacked one Mohammed Sulaiman, ‘m’, of Sharada Quarters Kano at Yahaya Gusau Street Sharada, stabbed him with a knife and robbed him of his Mobile Phone," Kiyawa stated.

"The victim was immediately rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where he was confirmed dead. On the same date, another report was received at about 2320 hours, that hoodlums attacked one Kingsley Sunday, ‘m’, of Panshekara Quarters, Kano, stabbed him with a knife on his shoulder and forehead and took away his Mobile Phone. Victim was also rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano where he was treated and discharged,"

"Upon receipt of the reports, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed teams of detectives led by SP Suleiman Ibrahim to arrest the culprits

"The Team swiftly swung into action, and following credible intelligence, arrested, (i) Hussaini Malami, ‘m’, 17 years old, (ii) Harisu Manniru, ‘m’, 20 years old, and (iii) Hussaini Abubakar, ‘m’, 19 years old, all of Zawaciki Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State. A knife with blood stain and the handset of one of the victims were recovered from them.

"On preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to have conspired and attacked Kingsley Sunday, stabbed him on his shoulder and forehead, and made away with his mobile phone. The suspects are giving useful information."

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command for thorough investigation after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.

Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun, paid a visit to APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, in London on Tuesday September 21, IgbereTV reports.
