HealthRe: NOIPolls: 88% Of Nigerian Doctors Seek Job Opportunities Abroad by echarlz(m): 6:22pm On Aug 04, 2017
It is not only doctors that are leaving. Nurses, pharmacists and physiotherapists are leaving in droves. In all this, it is Nigeria and Nigerians that are losing after spending so much to train these professionals. One big irony is that the countries they are migrating to even have higher doctors to people ratio. U.K, USA, Australia etc keep recruiting and willing to get better. Whereas our own health system is several decades behind theirs, they keep improving. We've always exported the little we have while we keep importing what we have.

The issues also go beyond job satisfaction. Or how do you explain a specialist brain surgeon in Nigeria not minding to go start all over again in U.K? This country needs help, and urgently too. There seems to be no one in charge, no sense of direction, the future is ever so uncertain. The land is filled with hatred and division.

Government should put measures in place to halt the brain-drain not just among doctors but all categories of professionals.

PoliticsRe: An Open Letter to Federal Government by Great Ife Students' Union by echarlz(m): 11:32am On Jul 21, 2017
Fynestboi:
GREAT IFE STUDENTS’ UNION

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA OVER THE STATE OF OUR COUNTRY

The Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, hereby uses this medium to register our dissatisfaction over the ridiculous state of our nation which has been characterized by teeming youth unemployment, financial misappropriation, snail-like political progress, staggering economy, and massive looting of our commonwealth by the ruling class. The current situation of our country can be aptly likened to a clueless and terribly damaged one with no specific direction. It is very disheartening that a country blessed with viable human resources as well as boundless natural resources cannot boldly boast of a reasonable level of youth employment, 21st Century education system, world-class security network, present-day social amenities among other indices of economic development.

It is unfortunate that the Buhari-led Federal Government administration has displayed a total disregard for educational needs of Nigerian children and youth by allocating less than 7% of the total budgetary allocation presented to the National Assembly contrary to 26% budgetary benchmark recommended by UNESCO. With this ridiculous budget allocated to the education sector, it is apparent that students will continue to receive classes under terrible and animalistic learning conditions; there will be further infrastructural decadence, unstable academic calendars (as paucity of fund will necessarily spur industrial actions from ASUU, ASUP and other stakeholders that are committed to righting the wrongs of the FG), etc.

However, our nation is not only bedeviled by the impecunious amount of money allocated to the, arguably, most important sector of the economy. Another great cause for worry is the inactiveness and cluelessness of the Federal Government of Nigeria in tackling the menace of insecurity in the country which has inadvertently led to loss of countless lives, destruction of property and subsequent displacement of millions of Nigerians. The Fulani herdsmen’s killings and wanton destruction of farms of hardworking Nigerians (mostly Southerners) are on the increase without any effective measure being put in place by the Federal Government in curbing their excesses. We find this very disheartening and painful. This situation has further compounded the level of havoc wreaked on millions of Nigerians by the Boko Haram sect.

Also, Great Ife Students’ Union condemns the tactical killing of the #NotTooYoungToRunBill by the National Assembly after the historic bill had scaled through the huddles of first and second readings. No excuse is logical or sufficient enough to justify the obnoxious and parochial decision of the National Assembly for preventing the bill from becoming a law. It is a well-orchestrated attempt by the ruling class to exclude the youths from participating actively in the governance of the country. By removing the age barrier which has inhibited countless industrious and purpose-driven Nigerian youths from standing the chance of being elected into political offices, the bill (if passed to law) would have encouraged fresh intellectual initiatives, coordination, and clearheaded policy formulation mechanism that will herald massive development in the country.

Finally, we are using this platform to demand the presidency to make public the health condition of President Muhammadu Buhari following his rather protracted sojourn in the United Kingdom for a couple of months now. It is impossible for some individuals who do not sum up to 2% of the total population of the country to keep fooling us by perpetuating the masses in the dark as regards the facts surrounding the health of Mr. President. As promised by the APC that they would be open and accountable in all their dealings, we challenge them to tell Nigerians the truth about the actual health condition of Mr. President.

PoliticsRelease El-Zakzaky, Fayose Tells FG by echarlz(op): 4:52am On Dec 03, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has hailed the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ordering the release of the leader of the Shi’ite Muslim sect, Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife.

The governor also commended the court for the N50m damages awarded against the Department of State Services.

Fayose, who had called for the release of El-Zakzaky two weeks ago, however said he won’t be surprised if the Federal Government did not obey the judgment.

“The judgement will be for posterity even if in their usual style of impunity, those holding power in Abuja ignore the judgment.”

He called on the judiciary to save democracy in Nigeria as well as Nigerians from tyranny by being courageous and firm even in the face of intimidation, harassment, blackmail and character assassination by those whose desire, he said, was to muscle opposition and turn Nigeria to as one party state.

Fayose, according to a statement issued on Friday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, reiterated his earlier call on the International Criminal Court, Amnesty International and other world bodies to investigate extra Judicial killings in the country in the last 15 months, especially the murder of over 300 Shi’ite Muslims in Zaria and killing of over 150 Biafra activists.
He argued that under international human rights law governing the use of firearms during policing operations, the intentional use of lethal force is only permitted when strictly unavoidable, to protect life.
Fayose noted that the detention of El-Zakzaky, since last year December after the murder of over 300 of his followers was inhuman and wicked.

If Fr Mbaka anchores one Sunday mass, the next Sunday will be hit back to back there that they will occupy the roads. For those shouting he shd open his church, the discipline, obedience and hierarchy in Catholic church is even more stringent than that in the Military. Fr. Mbaka has done what he should do based on his vows, his future is surely greater than his past. Above all, priesthood is not all about been in town, some since ordination hv been in the villages suffering but the kind of followership Fr. Mbaka has can turn a rural area into an urban area.
Meaning he had overstayed at the GRA parish...20 years! He probably has been enjoying some preferential treatment from the diocese. A crowd puller like Fr Mbaka shouldn't be allowed to stay at a station for that long. He must have felt untouchable. I'm sure he would've had prior warnings by the church. His transfer is obviously punitive. He knew the position of the church concerning these issues. Catholic priests don't engage in those activities without recourse to the church...those public statements, the Aso rock visit etc should have been with the permission of the bishop. The church has its own way of dealing with erring priests. I agree with him that the end will be better for him, so will it be for the church and the faithful.

If any elected Governor of APC is found wanting like WIKE let us cry out and let him be booted out. Enough of all this RUBBISH in the name of GODFATHERISM. If we keep supporting evil like many of you who said GEJ till 2019, then Nigeria will remain backward.

PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan Steering Nigeria With A Steady Hand - Washington Times by echarlz(m): 9:39pm On Mar 09, 2015
This is arguably the most balanced report by foreign media on the ongoing electioneering process in Nigeria. I have asked myself severally why GEJ devoted less effort and resources on publicising his achievements as the author rightly pointed out. He and his party had allowed the opposition to dominate the media for far too long and overwhelm Nigerians with their propaganda. My simple answer is complacency! That's even my greatest fear for a GEJ re-election. GEJ's handlers havent justified their wages. Even at the peak of the campaign, they still dwell more on emotions and trivialities rather real issues of national interest. Had PDP and GEJ handled this part well, the likes of OBJ and others who had the chance to rule at even lower levels wouldn't have found their voices.
Kola4uniadgog:
Nigeria has a date with destiny as
March 28 and April 11 draw near.
These are two significant dates that,
on one hand, present Nigerians
with an opportunity to strengthen
democracy through the ballot.

These dates, on the other hand, are
also beaming scaring danger
signals. No thanks to politicians
who are beating drums of war,
stumping across the country,
making campaign statements full of
fury, with little about issues of
concern to most Nigerians. As is
typical of Nigerian elections, the
tension is thick in the air, so much
so that the putrid smell of
Armageddon has enveloped the
country. Fears are palpable,
generating serious concerns among
Nigerians and within the
international community.

Nigeria has traveled this route
before, not once. There are
however reasons for genuine and
heightened concern this time. The
last few years have seen widening
cracks along the Nigeria’s well-
known fault lines of religion and
ethnicity. The security situation,
especially in the northeast, has
been a huge sore on the reputation
of the Africa’s most populous
country. The abduction of more
than 200 girls from the Borno State
community of Chibok nearly one
year ago, and the perceived lack of
enough effort from the government
of President Goodluck Jonathan to
ensure they are rescued, are
making the prospect of a peaceful
poll a tall dream.

President Jonathan has had to take
the blame for virtually everything
going wrong in Nigeria. Admittedly,
there are issues that currently feed
this perception. They include the
security situation, corruption and
poor living standards of most
Nigerians. Ordinarily, the buck
stops at the desk of the president.

The opposition seems to have
succeeded in creating the
impression that Mr. Jonathan
merely wakes up on daily basis and
does nothing. But things don’t
always seem as they look in Nigeria.

That the president has been doing
nothing would not pass the muster
of nonpartisan scrutiny. What
would be correct is that the
president has actually done little to
publicize the many things he has
been doing. In the last six years, the
government has been confronting
more fundamental issues of growth
and development with the type of
vigor and single-mindedness
uncommon in Nigeria.

The Jonathan administration would
trump any previous administration
in the effort made to tackle the
near-complete collapse of
infrastructure such as roads,
transportation and power supply.

The same can be said of
employment generation and
capacity development. Nigeria’s
economy has not only survived
major shake-ups affecting most
advanced economies, it has actually
also been growing in leaps and
bounds, emerging as Africa’s
largest.

He has perhaps taken an ingenious
route to fighting corruption. He
understands the difference
between the symptoms of
corruption and the underlying
causes. While many had expected a
frontal attack at the symptoms
through demonstrative — even if
unlawful — actions by deploying
anti-corruption forces in a frenzy of
mass arrests, media trials and
public sentencing of suspects, Mr.
Jonathan has chosen to allow the
justice system the space to work.
He hasn’t stopped at that. He is,
with the skill of a surgeon,
identifying the underlying causes of
corruption and taking them out one
after the other. This is what he did
with a fertilizer distribution scam,
which had hampered food
production and diversification
effort for decades. Perhaps, he did
not make enough noise on this, but
the result of his approach is loud
enough for the thousands of
Nigerian farmers who now have
easy access to fertilizer, completely
eliminating the meddlesome
middlemen. The action is equally
loud enough for the vested
interests to fight back and join the
now-profitable president-bashing
choir.

The security challenge is a bit more
complicated. Mr. Jonathan’s
emergence represented a paradigm
shift in the Nigerian political
arrangement. He was the first
person with no strong political
background or affiliation, and from
a minority tribe to become a
democratic president in Nigeria. He
had not benefited from any of the
important pillars of power such as
the support of a major ethnic
group. The template for success in
the Nigerian environment requires
much more than the timing of
response to a security situation,
such as the Chibok abduction saga.
It requires the willingness of the
players within the affected area to
put the safety of lives and
protection of properties of the
people ahead of their own
immediate political advantage. It is
not going to be easy trimming the
hair of someone who continues to
run. It could take time to either
catch up with him or get him to
willingly agree to the need to solve
a problem. The ability to keep calm
rather than adopt a knee-jerk and
high-handed approach in the face
of treachery and impunity is a great
asset the president is endowed
with. This, as the opposition is wont
to do, can also be mistaken for
weakness or incompetence.

Mr. Jonathan’s civilized approach to
tackling issues is built around the
need to ensure social justice, equity
and the rule of law. This should,
ordinarily, be worthy of global
acknowledgment and
commendation. But the concerted
noise from the opposition camp
and the penchant of some
international observers to rush to
judgment without taking full
account of peculiarities of an
environment are a bit deafening
and blinding to the reality on
ground.

As elections are getting closer, the
president is faced with the facts
that Nigerians are in a hurry.
They’ve waited for too long. This is a
situation that is being exploited by
opposition leaders, who have been
calling for mob actions as against
the rule of law. Mr. Jonathan has
equally shown that he understands
that Nigerians are expecting a
leader with a magic wand, who
could with a snap somewhere, turn
age-long and deeply rooted social
decay into an instant state of bliss.
But the magic wand could actually
be a possibility if current efforts are
allowed another four years to take
root, grow and bear fruits.

With due respect, it is wrong to rain abuses on our country's president, calling him names in that manner. I wish many of us knew the implication of this which has gone on for some time now and spear-headed by the opposition party. The office of the president must be respected because someone else will occupy it some day.
This act of insulting others unfortunately dominate online platforms where intelligent discuss should take place. Truth is depending on the kind and degree of opportunities they had, most of our political leaders can't be described as good orators and confident public speakers. I can't even see much difference between him and other contestants in that regard. Again we should attack issues not persons

It is no longer news that OBJ's third term agenda was real. He never denied it. He only said he didn't initiate it. Do people still say GEJ pushed the election? Only one body could do that and it was INEC-an independent body which did due to its unpreparedness and the unfavourable security report. I think GEJ is seen as a weakling.if he has been exercising his powers with impunity as many claim, he won't be so tagged. Rather he's accused more of inaction or slow response.
I'm sure you know that OBJ's major grouse with GEJ and PDP is the prominence of place of his sworn enemy Buruji Kashamu in the party. All other ssues he raised were just add-ons to divert attention to his personal interest in it all..
People are applauding OBJ because he has joined the crowd echoing the APC slogan. For that alone, his sins have been forgiven as was done for Bukola Saraki, Oyinlola, Segun Oni, Amechi, Gemade and other self-serving politicians who Odumakin and his group chose to be different from by working for the common good

BabaO2:
Postponement of election made me believed that Obasanjo never pushed for 3rd term, ask urself if Jonathan could push election certain to lose with impunity what could have stopped Obasanjo to have 3rd term with the same impunity ?
Sincerity is the soul of business, Jonathan never aspired to be president of Nigeria, but to satisfy constitution he was confirmed president after the death of yaradua a northern slot, to compensate Jonathan again OBJ rose against northners even despite it was their turn/slot to rule. OBJ pacified them, Jonathan will spend only a term. So what is moral justification for Jonathan and his beneficiaries to reneged that promise?. I can feel Obasanjo with shameful, unfaithful and untrustful character of mediocre Jonathan
PoliticsRe: Why I Dropped Buhari For Jonathan — Odumakin. by echarlz(m): 5:01pm On Feb 22, 2015
What moral right has Obasanjo to extract a single-term committment from any political leader? Did OBJ not renege on his own single term deal with the north and even pushed for a third term after the consitutional two terms? Tell me an elected leader who kept the single-term promise. Truth is all politicians speak from both sides of the mouth. This same act U people are quick to demonise GEJ for is characteristic of all politicians. Ceaseless brainwashing via APC-sponsored propaganda wouldn't allow many to view issues objectively. The ills which confront our nation today are not about a political party but a greedy and inept political leadership.
All these talks about Odumakin and others being bought over is too annoying, cheap and simplistic when the vital points he addressed in the interview are considered.
People should start addressing real issues and stop attacking individuals who hold political views and convictions different from theirs
BabaO2:
@odumakin, u have lost a fan for this your trash interview. If Jonathan reneged on implementing the confab after voted in, like he reneged on the 1 term promise given Obasanjo what can or will you do?. It is obvious odumakin has collected money/contract from Jonathan.
So Odumakin too is this corrupt.
PoliticsRe: Why I Dropped Buhari For Jonathan — Odumakin. by echarlz(m): 2:10pm On Feb 22, 2015
Thank you very much. This man addressed many vital issues people won't just face. It is rather convenient for them to chant with the crowd, abuse whoever airs a different view and label them thieves and turncoats. Truth is many of the online noise-makers flourish in ignorance. Someone even called Yinka Odumakin Buhari's spokesperson in 2011. A role played by ROTIMI FASHAKIN who lost the imagemaking position to Lai Mohammed in the new APC. The point here is if young people can't follow recent history how will someone giving 1964 or 1998 history make sense to them? So all the people who were at the confab were compromised? What will be the use of the money spent on it when its report is going to be discarded? Restructuring withers powers and control at the centre and strengthens the federating units. Those opposed to it in APC have ruled their states before and have consistently shown great lust for power at the centre so they want the status quo to remain for their benefit and return on political investment. When they were controlling states, they shouted restructuring to roof tops. Yet many of us are consumed by their media propaganda. Why is no one talking about the constitutional fraud called executive immunity that protects rulers who commit even the most heinous of crimes.
Truth is many right-thinking people still abound and we will effect the needed change our own way. We all can be in the madding crowd.
Odumakin had answered his critics himself, tagging them intellectually lazy and seeing their corrupt selves in others. He can't be more concise. Why blackmailing them for taking a dissident view that's in common rather than selfish interest?
With this hipoccrisy of change and suppposedly young, educated and energetic people heard the loudest, one cannot but fear for the future of this country

Chigold101:
yes really money... You are very much on point...

What type of brain do our youths of today have? Even if this man and his wife were paid. As a principled man who is not driven by what he will get, he is insisting that the decisions they made at the national conference will not be discarded. They want it implemented.
Does a man like that look like a man who has been bought over?

We should look at the issues he raised on corruption (like road of 5klm from 50million to 1billion). Uptil now no APC governor has singed into law or adopted PROCUREMENT ACT LAW. Agents of change indeed.

Then the issues on APC not having anything plan on re-structuring Nigeria. We all know that these Nigeria today is not working.

What of the issue of immunity? Those who really want to fight corruption must remove imunity clause because it is breeding highest level of corruption.

It is time we discuss issues and not mirrage.

barcanista:
I totally condemn this Barnabas Gamade candidacy. This man has been a flop in the Senate, he was pdp top boss, he was fully part of the rot. He's no way a progressive. APC should not allow aggrieved pdp to come from nowhere and hijack the party. This is madness, I totally condemn it and I wish his epic fail
Na today? Truth is the aggrieved, cross-carpetting PDP members in APC will soon outnumber the APC members. What's baffling is gullible Nigerians suddenly see them as saints once they enter APC...Bukola Saraki, El-rufai, Oyinlola, Segun Oni, Atiku, Tambuwai etc. Anyone tell me the kind of internal democracy that makes a new defector win party primary within a day
HealthRe: “how Enugu Doctor ‘killed’ My Son’ – Senator Jim Nwobodo by echarlz(m): 1:02am On Nov 21, 2014
Condolences to Ur family senator. Did U just blame the death of Ur son with stage 4 cancer on that doc? Can U reveal all U were told at the US hospital upon his discharge? Did U have to wait for 3 weeks to see that same doc when U could have flown him back to US or India over that period? Have U reported this doc to the MDCN and allow the law take its course so he can be punished accordingly? There just too many posers for U sir. Trial of the doc on the pages of newspaper is denigrating him and his profession. Your early grief reaction may explain but can never justify this. It is very doubtful that a doc's negligence is the cause of death in a patient with stage 4 cancer for those who know what that means
