Nairaland / General / Guarding Your Goals Don't Give Up On God He Will Not Give Up On You by edet19892015(m): 10:48am On Sep 15
Please carefully take a look at the photo attached to this post.
Take a very look at the man in the photo, you can see it very well! Right?
He is a goalkeeper, now let me tell you a story about this photo.

This photo was taken in December 1937 during a football match at the Stamford Bridge Stadium in London between Chelsea FC and Charlton FC, at the sixty minutes of the game there was a lot of fog.
In fact, when the match began there was a lot of fog all over the stadium.

But at the sixty minutes the fog became so think that the game has to be stopped.
When the match was stopped, this man in the photo who was the goalkeeper for Charlton FC did not know that the match had been abandoned because the fog was so thick that he couldn't see the other players.

The rest of the teammates had all gone to the dressing room and the other opponents they all left the field but he couldn't hear even the Referee whistle blown because the spectators were making a lot of noise.

He stood on his guard protecting his goalpost but unknown to him the match had been stopped.
He stood there for good fifteen minutes until the police came to find him standing in the goalpost and there they told him that the match had been abandoned for the past fifteen minutes.

When he was finally taken away from the field he felt so sad; he said how sad that my own teammates forgot me when I was guarding their own goals.

My thoughts for you the reader:

Sometimes in life that is how it is, sometimes you do everything for your friends and family, you kind of guard their goals.
But when situations becomes so foggy they abandon you, they leave you and they forget you totally.

But I want to tell you something, God would never abandon you.
God would never forget you, your hardship, your trials, you standing up in faith for Him.
No matter how thick the fog of life may get, God has said I will never leave you nor forsake you.

You may be like this goalkeeper now in your life, but I want to assure you one thing, the Angels of God the Lord are solidly behind you.
They are cheering you on never give up on God, because God will never forget you.
He will never forget you, He will never leave you nor forget you.
Have a blessed sunday!

Nairaland / General / Don't Look Down On Anyone Except You Are Admiring Their Shoes by edet19892015(m): 7:05pm On Sep 07
Don't look down on anyone except you are admiring their shoes; This witty saying reminds us to approach life with humility and kindness. It encourages us to focus on the positive aspects of others, rather than judging them harshly.

When we look down on someone, we often do so with a sense of superiority, forgetting that everyone has their own struggles and challenges. But what if we shifted our perspective? What if, instead of looking down, we looked for something to admire? Perhaps it's their resilience, their determination, or even their sense of style – like their shoes.

Admiring someone's shoes may seem trivial, but it's a powerful metaphor. It means we're taking the time to notice the little things, to appreciate the beauty in the everyday. When we focus on the positive, we create a ripple effect of kindness and compassion.

Everyone has something unique to offer. Whether it's a talent, a skill, or a perspective, each person brings something valuable to the table. By looking down on others, we risk missing out on the opportunity to learn from them, to grow alongside them.

So, let's make a conscious effort to shift our gaze. Instead of looking down, let's look for something to admire. Let's celebrate the diversity and individuality that makes us human. Let's recognize that everyone has a story worth telling, and everyone has shoes worth admiring.

In doing so, we create a world where people feel seen, heard, and valued. A world where kindness and empathy triumph over judgment and criticism. A world where we can all walk together, admiring each other's shoes, and celebrating the beauty in our differences.

Nairaland / General / Time Doesn't Close The Book But Only Reveals The Beginning Of The Next Chapter by edet19892015(m): 3:05pm On Sep 01
Time doesn't close the book but only reveals the beginning of the next chapter; This profound statement reminds us that time is not a finite entity but a continuous journey. It's a gentle nudge to embrace the present and look forward to the future with hope and anticipation.

As we navigate life's twists and turns, it's easy to get caught up in the past or worry about the future. But be courageous to focus on the present moment, knowing that it's a stepping stone to the next chapter. Every experience, whether joyful or challenging, is an opportunity for growth and learning.

The concept of time as a book with chapters is a beautiful metaphor. It suggests that our lives are a narrative, with each chapter building upon the previous one. As we turn the page, we embark on a new journey, armed with the wisdom and insights gained from the previous chapter.

Time is not a linear progression but a cyclical process. Seasons come and go, and experiences repeat themselves in different forms. By recognizing this cycle, we can approach life with a sense of wonder and curiosity, knowing that each chapter brings new opportunities and challenges.

In essence, it is a call to embrace the journey, not just the destination. It's a reminder to stay present, to cherish the moments, and to look forward to the next chapter with hope and anticipation. As we turn the page, we can trust that the next chapter will bring its own unique beauty and opportunities for growth.

Nairaland / General / They Won't Admit It by edet19892015(m): 4:07pm On Aug 25
There are people who walk through life observing others, learning from them, and drawing inspiration from their character and conduct.

They may not always show it, they may not always admit it, but they are quietly motivated by the people around them. They see the way you handle challenges, the way you treat others, and the way you stay true to yourself.

They may not come up to you and say, 'Thank you for being such a great role model,' but they are watching, they are learning, and they are growing because of you. These people may be few, but they are out there, and they are the ones who will carry on your legacy, even if they don't say it out loud.

So, keep being your amazing self, keep shining your light, and know that there are people who are secretly learning from you and motivated by your character and conduct, even if they won't admit it.

JESUS CHRIST, I see what you have done for other people, and I want that for me.

I witness the impact you've had on others, and I hunger for that same transformation in my life.
May the transformative power that has touched others touch my life too.
Transform me, as you have transformed others.

Transform my life, as you have transformed others.
I desire the transformative touch you've given others.
May your transformative power, evident in others, be evident in me.
Transform me, that I may be a testament to your power.
Let your transformative work in others be my story too.

Nairaland / General / Every Woman Is A Queen by edet19892015(m): 6:18pm On Jul 03
Women, learn to fix your sister's crown!

Every woman is a queen. If you see your sister's crown askew, help her adjust it instead of pulling it down.

Support one another.

Don't talk down to her.

Being married doesn't make you better than her.

Being a single mum or divorced doesn't make her a failure.

Being a widow doesn't make her less capable.

Having more money than her or her husband doesn't make her classless.

Not having children doesn't make her less of a woman.

Being more successful doesn't mean she is useless; no one knows what tomorrow holds.

Being more educated doesn't make her inferior.

Having higher authority shouldn't be used to belittle or intimidate her.

Celebrate her as a queen even if you think you're better.

Women face many challenges and need encouragement from one another.

It costs nothing to uplift a fellow woman.

All it takes is letting go of envy, jealousy, hatred, wickedness, bitterness, arrogance, and unhealthy competition.
No woman is ugly.

Nairaland / General / Let Your Success Be The Revenge by edet19892015(m): 5:29pm On Jun 22
Seeing one's goal as foolish and belittling the person is a sign of insecurity, not intelligence. It takes courage to chase a dream, and it takes strength to persevere through the doubts of others.

Don't let someone else's opinion define your potential. Instead, use their skepticism as fuel to drive you closer to your goals. Remember, the only one who needs to believe in your vision is you.

So, keep pushing forward, even when others think you're foolish. Your success will be the greatest revenge.

Sometimes God won't allow certain people to help you because He doesn't want their fingerprints in your assignments.

He wants to be the one to guide you, to shape you, and to mold you into the person He created you to be. He wants to be the one to receive the glory for your success, not someone else.

Trust that God's plan is bigger than any human's assistance. Trust that He knows what's best for you, even when it doesn't make sense to you.

And trust that He will bring the right people into your life at the right time to help you fulfill your purpose. Have faith, and let God's fingerprints be the only ones on your assignments.

It highlights the value of community and mutual encouragement, where we can learn to wait for our turn while applauding others' achievements, knowing that they will do the same for us when our time comes.

No Matter What You Do You'll Have Haters...

You could save the world and someone will be upset.

They'll say you didn't do it fast enough, you didn't do it the right way, or you had ulterior motives.

You'll always have haters. Accept it and then ignore them.

Bees do not waste their time telling flies that honey is sweeter than shit.

Let them live in their negative world because you're doing something that matters.

No matter how brightly you shine, there will always be those who prefer the darkness. No matter how kind you are, there will always be those who choose to hate.

No matter how hard you work, there will always be those who envy your success. But remember, their hatred is not a reflection of your worth, but a reflection of their own insecurities.

So, don't let the haters dim your light. Instead, use their negativity as fuel to keep shining brighter. Embrace your uniqueness, celebrate your differences, and keep pushing forward. For every hater, there are countless others who admire and appreciate you.

Focus on the love, and let the haters fade into the background noise of your journey to greatness.

Nairaland / General / Are You An Idiot, Tribesman Or A Citizen? by edet19892015(m): 9:23am On May 11
Unless you understand your role in society, you can never make any meaningful contribution.

According to the Greeks, they are three types of people on Earth,
1. The idiots,
2. The tribesmen, and
3. The citizens.

Studies show only 10% of Africans are citizens.
The remaining 90% are either tribesmen or idiots.

1. When the Greeks used the word "Idiot", they did not use it as a curse word.
Idiots are people who just don’t care.
If they sit for exams, they will cheat.
If they are in government they will steal.

An idiot does not care at all, if he eats bananas he throws the peels anywhere instead of putting them in a trash bin.

IDIOTS won't attend monthly neighborhood meetings. They won't pay security dues. They won't contribute to community development. Even when they see or know about something that will harm others in the community they won't report it. When they see/know/have something that will benefit their community they won't share.

In fact, Idiots don't care to register for or vote in an election, yet they complain the most. If they register to vote, IDIOTS will sell their votes for peanuts.

According to the Greeks, some societies have more idiots than tribesmen and citizens.

2. The next set of people are "Tribesmen", these are people that look at everything from the point of view of their tribe.

These are people that believe in you only if you are part of their tribe.
It can be terrible to have a tribesman as a leader, he will alienate the rest.

When the Greeks talk about tribes, it’s not just about ethnicity, they also consider religion, gang membership, group membership, party membership and even cult membership as a tribe.

A great percentage of Africans are tribesmen, because they view everything from the point of view of their tribes. They trust only their tribesmen

3. The last group are "Citizens".
These are people who like to do things the right way.
They will respect traffic light rules even if no one is watching them.

They drive within speed limits.
They respect the laws, and won’t cheat in exams.
In government, they won’t steal.
They are compassionate and give to others to promote their well-being.

Citizens often promote projects that benefit everyone.
The Greeks called this group "The Citizens".

Some countries have more citizens than tribesmen and idiots, others have so many idiots.

A tribesman can become a citizen through orientation.
And an idiot can become a citizen by training and constant enforcement of the law.

But things fall apart if you elect an idiot or tribesman to lead you if he has not been reformed.

Where do you belong? Are you an idiot, a tribesman or a citizen? Reflect on your life.
Reflect about your immediate community, city, state and nation.

LOOK FOR BUSINESS PARTNERS NOT FRIENDS!

At this stage of your life, you need to start looking for business partners, not just friends.

Five years from now, those friends might vaporize into thin air.

Five years from now, your business should be generating active and passive income for you.

Five years from now, your today's investment will become a large asset.

Five years from now, your child will eat or starve from the decisions you make today.

Five years from now, your SWAG or BEAUTY won't pay your bills.

Five years from now, you'll be either celebrating or regretting the actions you take now.

And again I say look for business partners not friends.

Literature / The Sluggish Girl by edet19892015(m): 10:39am On Apr 11
A Short Moral Story; The Sluggish Girl:

A little girl was carrying a heavy bucket on her head. She walked very slowly and very calmly down the busy road. She minded her own business and focused on her destination.

Everyone wondered why she walked so slowly. The people behind her were going so fast that they passed her. The children returning from the stream with buckets on their heads had all passed her. Some of the children laughed and mocked her for being too slow. One of them said,

"Do you know what time it is, lazybones? You're so slow and sluggish! I wonder how long it will take before you reach your home."

However, the girl was apparently unconcerned about what the children said and she kept walking home. A short while later, two women saw her and started teasing her,

"Didn't your mother teach you the importance of hardwork? Just a small bucket of water, yet you move like a sloth. Why can't you walk just as fast as the other children who are also returning from the stream? Some of them carry buckets heavier than yours. You're so slow!"

Upon hearing that, the young girl remained silent and paid attention to her journey. However, she hadn't gone far when an old man stopped her and said hastily,

"Hey, hurry! Don't let those children walk faster than you. You all carry the same size of buckets. You should compete with them and make sure you get home before them. Be fast!"

The girl smiled faintly at the old man, but said nothing and kept on walking. The old man stood for a while, wondering what that odd behaviour could mean. Meanwhile, as the girl walked along the road, she kept hearing people talking and screaming at her,

"Run, run, run as fast as you can! The other children are far ahead of you. You don't want to let them reach home before you. Hurry up!"

But regardless of what people said, the young girl was indifferent to everyone and continued crawling along. Then, suddenly, an old woman approached her and asked in a calm tone,

"Young girl, why do you walk so slowly? Is your bucket of water that heavy? The other children are way ahead of you..."

The girl paused for a moment, then with a gentle smile on her face, she whispered surprisingly,

"What I carry on my head is not water. They are eggs, a bunch of eggs. I can't walk as fast as those children who are carrying water. The road is bad, although if they fall, their water spills, but if I fall, my eggs break. A bunch of eggs is worth more than a bucket of water. I can't compete with them because we do not carry the same load. That's how life is; we always feel the need to compete with another person without realizing that we carry different loads and we have different dreams and ambitions. Some paths are rather meant to be walked on slowly. Instead of playing to win, I'm playing not to lose. As long as I'll reach home with all my eggs intact, I don't care how many children are ahead of me."

Moral Lesson: Don't compete with anyone. Just focus on your journey and keep moving. The load you carry is different from that of others.

INVESTING FOR A BETTER TOMMOROW.

Are you delaying your own success? Most of the people do by not making that very first move.

To achieve success one must understand what is success all about. Success is much more than reaching your destination. It is about gathering your courage, improving your skills and believing in yourself so that you can make things happen. When you have this attitude towards life you won't delay anything in life rather take advantage of every opportunity that life throws at you.

Many people lose their greatest and at times the only opportunity in life because they are too hesitatant to begin. They doubt themselves and fear so much that they only end up losing that opportunity.

Take every chance in life even if you need to learn, improve or grow your skills for it. It is not about how quick you can achieve success but how efficiently you use that opportunity to make the most of it.

Think of investments opportunities for better tomorrow.

SALARY MAY STOP TOMORROW!

When your salary comes in time, you eat chicken. As the salary reduces you eat products of Chicken (Eggs) and subsequently, you begin to eat chicken's foods like maize and millet.

Finally, when salary is finished, you become chicken itself, spending your time walking around just looking for what to eat.

Your salary is a seed that needs to be planted. It's important you take part of it and invest.

Salary alone cannot solve all your money problems. Create a plan B now.

A wise investment will provide opportunities for one to always eat chicken whenever he or she pleases.

Think "INVESTMENT" because you won't be young forever.

Think "INSURANCE" because you won't be strong forever.

Think "ENTREPRENEURSHIP" because you won't be employed forever.

Think "STREAMS" of income so that you will be financially free and independent.

A stitch in time saves nine.

If success is cheap, everyone would have been successful. If the road to success was straight many would have been enjoying success long ago.

But, I'm sorry its not!

If you are expecting your dreams to come through cheaply, then you need a change of expectations.

Success is not free, it's not for people who sits on the fence, its not for people who give excuses.

Success comes to men and women who are dedicated, committed and ready to give their dreams all it takes to be fulfilled.

So I ask again, what manner of person are you? Someone who gives up easily? Or someone ready to fight through the bad day to earn the good days?

Think about it!

🔟METHODS TO SURVIVE THE PRESENT SITUATION IN NIGERIA

1️⃣Don't take it personally, it's a general problem affecting everybody. Don't go and be displaying your unclothedness in the bank, those who did didn't get anything.

2️⃣Suspend all your projects for now until things normalize. Don't kill yourself because you have set a target for yourself.

3️⃣The most important thing now is feeding and health. It's not bad if you touch your savings at this time to survive.

4️⃣Reduce going about to places that are not very important.

5️⃣Stop the unnecessary show of affluence and you don't have to impress anyone now. If you cannot maintain your standard please reduce it for now. If you don't eat meat this time you won't die.

6️⃣Avoid bad and shocking news if you can, especially if you already have high blood pressure. Instead listen to good music, watch comedies and laugh out stress.

7️⃣Manage and tolerate strong emotions outside your comfort zone, even those you’d rather avoid like anger or despair.

8️⃣Be confident you’ll eventually find a solution to a problem, even when one isn’t immediately apparent.

9️⃣This is not the time to forsake God or get discouraged in serving God. In fact this is the time to serve God more.

🔟Always know that this time will still come and pass like EBOLA and CORONA VIRUSES. Don't kill yourself because your tomorrow is far better than your today.
We will conquer this one too by the special grace of God, Amen!

Thanks for reading and remember that tough times never last but tough people do.

Let me elucidate from my little experience. Can anyone in the USA use $1 for breakfast? No!

But in Nigeria, ₦1500 will give you breakfast and lunch.

Majority of people's monthly house rent (self contained apartment) in the USA is $1000 and above... and that is your own 2 year's rent.

Have you ever paid for insurance before? Insurance in the USA is $280 and that is almost ₦100,000.00 monthly.

When last did you pay monthly phone bills? I pay almost ₦40,000.00 monthly and if I don't, they are going to block my SIM. Your own MTN can be there for months without recharge.

When last did you work on Saturday and Sunday?

This I do compulsorily and on regular basis.

Don't get me wrong, the USA is better than Nigeria, depending on which angle you are viewing it.

Do you want to hear the truth?

Many people in Nigeria live a more fulfilling life compared to their counterparts abroad.

Forget about all the packaging on social media and give credit to the good life you are living.

Do you know why Nigerians living in the US always rush back quickly whenever they come home visiting?

Because bills are counting and elongated absence (freedom) will put their lives in jeopardy.

If you, as a black person, attempt to emulate the whites, they will kneel on your neck.

Apart from Congo, no citizens in the entire universe enjoy life to the fullest than Nigerians.

You are abundantly blessed but you don't know until you get visa and relocate abroad, that is when you will know that your 8-hour job in Nigeria with free weekend is awoof.

With 11-hour job abroad, you can only pay bills, you need other 6 to 8 hours jobs to save for the future and plan your life.

The truth is that the grass is green everywhere, it's lack of vision greed of our leaders and politicians and the skewed religious practices (which placed emphasis on miracles) that ascended Nigeria onto a myopic tentacle of complete standstill.

Always thank God wherever you may find yourself. Nigeria is good and will be better.

God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Aye o pe meji is translate in yoruba as "life doesn't come twice".
This sentence has many variations, from a popular song the abbreviation Y. O. L. O. spells out as You Only Live Once. People also mention in music that there is only one life to live or to live like it's your last, you truly only live once.

When mention most times it is to encourage people to do the wild things, to party, to drink, to be as outrageous as possible. I get it, I really do because time is of essence, and we’ve got it limited.

Let's ponder on this; since our time is limited why not make the very best of  it.
Yes, we die and return to dust but your memory lives on.

Everyone remembers the great people like Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, and Nnamdi Azikiwe.
I can remember the first person who was nice to me when I got into the university on the first day.
Making an impact in a person or people’s lives makes much more of a lasting imprint.

We never really think we can die, we read records on deaths on the paper or watch on the news we feel sad for a minute or we might even change the channel or skip the page. Not until someone we know dies; a friend, a cousin, an acquaintance then the fragility of life truly dawn on us and we realise that death barely missed us by a whiff.

I’m not being morbid, I’m just being honest, now when you feel like life is too short, think about trying out football you have passion for, you might be the next Victor Osimhen or when you think to yourself, I might be gone soon start that business or try to get back into school.

When you realise how fickle life is, be wonderful to the world and watch love cannonize you, so when you think about how short life is, write a book, raise a poem and compose a song, engage in sporting activities, read a lot more and start volunteering.

And when it dawn on you that you will die one day don’t forget God is watching, guiding, coaxing you to be His and His only.
Never stop getting better and help others get better too.

Sports / Lessons From AFCON 2023 by edet19892015(m): 8:43am On Feb 09
LESSONS FROM AFCON 2023

1. Ivory Coast lost two out of three group matches but still got to the final. They had a second chance and took it seriously. Don't play with the second chance life gives you. Don't give up on yourself!

2. Ivory Coast were beaten 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea, yet they bounced back to the final while Equatorial Guinea got eliminated. Don't write anyone off. You won today doesn't mean you are the best. Don't look down on the person you defeated yesterday!

3. Ivory Coast mobilized support for Morocco to beat Zambia so that they can qualify. Some of those clapping you now and supporting you may not be your real friends, they may just be using your success for their gain. Morocco went home after helping Ivory Coast to qualify to the final. Don't let anyone use you for any gain that doesn't benefit you.

4. South African goalkeeper stopped 4 penalties against Cape Verde and we're so confident. They wanted the match against Nigeria to end in penalties so that they will win. But against Nigeria, he couldn't stop any penalty, instead the Nigerian keeper stopped 2 and won Man Of The Match. Don't be too confident in yourself.

5. Nigeria scored a second goal that was disallowed because of an earlier foul at the build up. The goal was cancelled and SOUTH AFRICA was awarded a penalty. Such is life, when you think you have lost, God may give you a redemption to turn ashes into beauty.

6. Senegal didn't lose any match at group stage. But when they played against Ivory Coast that lost 2 matches, they were eliminated.

7. All the defenders were on Osimhen, they did all they could to stop him, even four of his goals were disallowed, but they didn't take note of Ademola Lookman. Your real enemy may not be who you are thinking.

8. Kelechi Iheanacho didn't play the previous 5 matches, he came in late into the 6th game and became the hero. All you need to be a hero could just be one kick and not 100 kicks, but if you have just one opportunity to kick the ball, do it well.
