Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai yesterday gave tips on how to identify suicide bombers.

Speaking during a visit to the Emir of Mubi in Adamawa State where suicide bombers struck last week, Gen. Buratai said the security situation had improved in the town compared to three years ago, even though there were still pockets of suicide attacks.

He said:

“This is the time we should reflect on what went wrong and ensure it does not happen again.“The situation requires vigilance. Suicide bombers disguise in different ways. People can identify them by the abnormal way they dress.

“Therefore, people should be vigilant. Because of improvement in security situation people have relaxed, but it is now they should reflect on their past mistakes.

“There should be continued relationship with security agencies and provision of necessary information.”

He assured that security agencies would continue to ensure that suicide bombers did not have access to the community, but if they did, they would be apprehended before causing havoc.

He also spoke on the need for synergy between the military and traditional institution.

The Emir of Mubi Alhaji Abubakar Ahmadu said the Emirate Council and security agencies had identified the loopholes in security that led to the recent suicide bomb blast in the town.

The Emirsaid more than 20 people died in the incident, while over 50 others sustained injuries in the twin explosions at different locations in Mubi on May 1.

The traditional ruler described the incident as unfortunate and assured that it would not happen again.

Police detectives are investigating the death of a lawyer, Mr Otike Odibi, 50, who was allegedly killed by his wife, also a lawyer, Mrs Udeme Odibi, 47, at Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Lagos. The couple were said to have been married for 3 years without issue.

According to police, the man was found dead on the bed with his stomach ripped open. The killer severed his genital and placed it on his right hand. Source said, the suspect, Mrs Udeme had unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide after allegedly killing her husband.

She was rushed to the hospital by neighbours where she is currently receiving treatment. Sources further revealed that the couple married 3 years ago after the deceased divorced his first who bore him a daughter presently schooling in UK.

However, the current marriage is said to be without a child. A neighbour revealed that the deceased called him on phone in the night before he was murdered, complaining that the wife was threatening to kill him with a knife. The neighbour said he warned him to be careful.

The deceased was àlso reported to have called his mother and his younger sister complaining of threat to his life that fateful night.

A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered that one Safianu Umar, be given seven strokes of the cane for stealing three empty crates of soft drinks.

The judge, Mohammed Marafa, convicted Umar over charges bordering on criminal trespass and theft‎.

Marafa, however, warned Umar to desist from committing crime, adding that if he is brought back to court for any crime, he would face more severe punishment.

The prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, had told the court that one Shamsu Zayanu of Arab Road, Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on April 20.

He said that Umar and one other now at large, criminally trespassed into the complainant’s shop and stole three crates of empty soft drinks, valued at N7, 400.

Olanipekun said that while Umar attempted to escape with the said crates, he was arrested, adding that the offence contravened Sections 342 and 287 of the Penal Code.

20-year-old welder killed at politician’s residence in Maiduguri


The Police Command in Borno on Tuesday confirmed that one person was killed in Maiduguri during a gathering at the resident of a politician, Mr Grema Terab.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu, told newsmen in Maiduguri that the command had arrested 24 persons in connection with the killing which occurred on April 15.


Chukwu disclosed that men of the command had recovered the corpse of a 20-year-old welder, Maina Mustapha, at the residence of the politician.

He said the command had earlier declined request by Terab to hold a political meeting at his residence in GRA area of Maiduguri.

“Terab sent a request in a letter with a PDP logo, seeking permission to hold a meeting at his residence in the GRA area.

“The letter was signed by Terab and not by the PDP Chairman or any other official of the party.

“And considering the appearance of a party logo on the letter, we notified him that the command would not permit political gathering within residential areas and advised him to hold the meeting at public places or hotels to enable us to provide security.

“Terab acted against the command’s position, held the meeting at his residence and in the process one persons was stabbed to death,” he said.

The commissioner added that Terab, who was the convener of the meeting, went into hiding and ordered him to report to the nearest police station.

He said that investigation into the case had begun.

The Benue State police in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officers have arrested a J-5 truck with cartons of tramadol drugs.


The commissioner of police,Fatai Owoseni who paraded the suspects alongside the substance disclosed that the substance which was packed in different boxes with different names upon checking turned out to be tramadol, a drug taken by youths to commit crime.


Owoseni while conducting journalists round, averred that there was an intelligence report that a J-5 bus coming from Aliade to Makurdi was transporting substance
packaged in different cartons believed to be dangerous drugs.

Based on the report the police with officers of NDLEA mobilized and accosted the vehicle with its two occupants. According to the CP, the two suspects arrested have made useful information and investigation is ongoing.


In another development, twelve armed robbers were arrested at different locations of the state, with several items used in perpetrating crimes like locally fabricated pistols, military uniforms, caps, walkie talkie and other weapons including a carton of dangerous drugs recovered from them.


The CP while commending the general public for their support through timely information called on the citizens to say something when they see something.

The heated debate took place on air during a current affairs radio program on Fresh FM, Ibadan, owned by Yinka Ayefele.

Sowore fired the opening salvo saying to the Minister, “Minister, it is great to see you. This is the minister of an outgoing regime; the Buhari regime will be kicked off power by 2019,”

The minister clearly irked by this was quick to fight back “By your wish or by God’s wish? You are just dreaming. You are a day dreamer”

Sowore pressed on saying that Nigerians were in the mood for change, to which Shittu replied “Sowore, what’s your electoral worth? Whether in your Ife (sic), home or any part of this country.”

Mr Sowore replied: “My electoral worth brought you to power in 2015. Nobody even heard about many of you in 2014.”

At which point Shittu said “You are inconsequential…”

Undeterred, Sowore continued the argument saying “I am consequential because you came to power on my back, on our back… on the back of young people who invested a lot of hope.”

An obviously riled Shittu said in response, “What did you invest? Did you invest more than me, No? I will not sit here and allow someone make noise…You are just a noisemaker. You are just a noisemaker.”

Sowore then warned Shittu that his behaviour was reminiscent of people in Jonathan’s camp before they were chased out in 2015.

The debate was a highly feisty one with Shittu saying Sowore was too inexperienced and that the Presidency wasn’t for the likes of him and stating that he had more experience being a former commissioner and a senator and even before that being a lawyer.

A young Nigerian social media user identified as Detty Dre has touched a sensitive topic and gotten verbally burnt for it. Detty had probably intended to crack a joke when he shared a post declaring that the Lord and saviour of Christians is a fool.
