Pregnant Women In Ghana Are Reportedly Taking Bleaching Pills To Make Their Unborn Baby Fairer

As bizarre, as it is and sounds, it’s been reported that some pregnant women in Ghana ingest bleaching pills to make their babies come out fairer and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has expressed worry over this dangerous act.

“The use of these drugs has gone to an alarming stage; it is ignorance that is making people do so,” the FDA’s Head of Cosmetics and Household Chemicals, Mr. Emmanuel Nkrumah, said at a media sensitization workshop on unapproved bleaching pills and products in Takoradi.

“Anything that you take orally should be food, toothpaste and mouthwash, and not bleaching pills,” he continued.

“It is an offence to handle a bleaching tablet or pill; the FDA has not approved any tablet or pill for that purpose. So, if you possess it, it becomes an offence because it has not been registered.”

He alleged that some pregnant women were taking the bleaching pills with the view to giving birth to light-skinned babies, something that he said could be very dangerous to the foetus.

The FDA’s Western Regional Head, Mr. Abu Somalia, added that the situation is very alarming and that a lot of investigation is being carried out.

Man Digs Grave Of Sister Buried 50 Year Ago In Ekiti State, Exhumes Her Bones In Attempt To Use Grave To Bury Late Wife

A 75 year old man who dug the grave of his sister Folawemo Luiz who was buried 50 years ago in Ekiti state appeared in court today for the continuation of his trial.

The accused Daramola Luiz reportedly exhumed the bones of his sister in Ise/Orun LGA of Ekiti state on the 21st of June 2016 in order to bury his late wife in the same grave.

He was arrested by family members who caught him performing the act and took him to the police station.

His case has been dragging for a while after he promised to settle the matter amicably but it didn’t work out.

He appeared before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ court today where he was granted bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Modupe Afeniforo adjourned the case until the 19th of March for further hearing.

A 49-year-old city sex worker has decided to retire from the trade in Kenya



Sarah Mutero, who claimed to have ‘serviced’ over 28,000 men in the course of 23 years of active commercial sex work, received a parcel of land worth Sh120,000 (about $1,190), as part of her retirement benefits from wellwishers. .



For 23 years, Mutero had been a sex worker, having serviced thousands of men at her hometown of Embu, Nairobi city centre and in Majengo area. She claims she would service 20 or more men in a day in her younger years. .



But as age set in, with hard economic times and stiff competition, she could only manage four customers daily. This means an average of 100 men per month. “It is not an easy thing to satisfy such a big number of men, some being ruthless, yet we end up poor. .



We earn peanuts that we can’t even save. Everything I have earned in servicing needy men went to clothes, shelter and food for my children as well as education,” she said. She added that in sex business, pricing is determined by standards and location

The mystery snake was said to have sneaked into the account office of the Board in Makurdi and made away with the N36 million cash a number of times. JAMB candidates hitherto purchased scratch cards from JAMB state offices and other designated centers, to gain access to the Board’s website for either registration or to check their admission status.

The Vice President professor Yemi Osinbajo has supported the creation of state police as he believes this would help tighten security across the nation.



According to him, state and community policing is the way to go because having a centralized system – as is currently practiced, cannot effectively secure the nation.



The VP made this known on Thursday at the National Assembly summit on security.

The two-day summit which is taking place at the NAF Conference Center, Ahmadu Bello Way, Abuja, is aimed at providing an all-inclusive platform for finding long-term solutions to the security challenges in Nigeria.



Speaking further, Osinbajo proposed that the current number of police in the country be tripled and called for more funding for the police as well as other security agencies.



On the herdsmen killings, he described as false, the insinuations in some quarters that the President has ignored the killings by herdsmen because he is Fulani.



He said no other issue preoccupies the President as much as the killings in the country.



The VP, therefore, warned stakeholders not to allow the conflict between herdsmen and farmers assume ethnic and religious dimensions.

A Nigerian woman couldn't hide her pain at the burial of her late boyfriend as she knelt to pay her last respect.

It was an emotional moment as a 300-level Public Administration student of Ebonyi State University was laid to rest on Saturday, February 3, at his hometown, Ndiofoke Amagu Ikwo in Ebonyi state.


The late student identified as Nkwuda Aloysius aka Ally Boi/Don Swagger died in a tragic motor accident on the 28th of January. At the burial ceremony, his girlfriend, Miss Catherine Nwakaego knelt down in tears to pay her last respect to him.

The Lagos State Prisons Command has said that about 35 inmates of the Ikoyi Prison School, Lagos, are participating in the ongoing January/February West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates – an examination that’s newly-introduced by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Ladipo also disclosed that the authorities of the prison are working hard to ensure that inmates are given education opportunities.

“I am pleased to inform you that the welfare of these inmates are of top priority to us.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned as we are deploying resources available to us in ensuring that these inmates are empowered,” the controller told NAN.

He said that the prison authorities had been giving the inmates the necessary support to enable them to excel.

“I am sure that, with all the efforts of the government, NGOs and others in an attempt to help them to excel, they will post very impressive performances in this examination.

“We hope they come out in flying colours so we can get them enrolled into the National Open University of Nigeria where they will be further educated and empowered.

“With that, we have created an opportunity for them to contribute their quotas to nation-building whenever they regain freedom,” Ladipo said.

The Principal of the school, ASP Idris Ibikunle, also hopes that the inmates would excel in the examination.

“I am indeed happy with the way the examination is going. I must say it has been good so far.

“We recently took delivery of a huge volume of books, which cut across all the subjects, from the Federal Government.

“Right now, the prison has entered into a partnership with the Prisoners Rights Advocacy Initiative, an NGO in the area of volunteer teachers.

“Plans are also under way to give the school a deserved upgrade that will ensure a more conducive environment for teaching, learning and conduct of Computer-Based Test (CBT) by JAMB.

”With all these in place, I expect better and brighter days for the education of our inmates,” he told NAN.
