I holds a HND Mechanical Engineering; that answers your first question. HND Microbiology, that should be OND Food Technology,right ? I would advise we be on the look out for both OND Food Technology and HND Microbiology jobs for you just to garner experience.

Like I always tell people and thank God you have taken decision already, it doesn't necessarily mean that your first job comes with good salary, but with time after having the required experience, great doors will open.

I attended a public university and I turned out not too bad. Covenant is definitely one of the top universities in Nigeria.
However during Masters at a UK University I had 5 colleagues who graduated from Covenant and all 5 of them were drug addicts.

We can't put our ideas into practical terms that will affect the people's life.

For someone to take his or her previous time to put this down then I doubt the person educational background. Instead of you to bring quantum ideas on how to solve Nigerian problems, you
are lampooning universities. You went to school and make things better. But here, you have nothing to show for it but criticism.

If I may ask the OP,
1)What are your achievements? 2.1 or First Class is not an achievement because it is written on paper.
2) what have you been able to invent? How is your contributions to humanity?
3) If you academic achievement is not reflecting in the lives of people then you should keep quiet amd hide the private university you attended.

Nigerians are good in paper work that is theoritical work but not in practical work.


The last I checked, Mr. Seun graduated from a public University. You are using NL and claiming the best.

I repeat capital OND. All my guys that wrote this Nestle Aptitude test were all HND holders. They pocketed their HNDs and used OND to apply.

To re-iterate what you have said already...

The chances of landing an interview increases significantly when your CV is accompanied by a passionate cover letter. CVs are fast becoming a cliche now, but your cover letter would personalize your application, giving it a voice and making you appear human. I mean, in this days of AIs, it is possible for bots and robots to send in CVs. Cover letters would also offer you the golden opportunity of emphasizing your skills, strengths and experience - an opportunity your CV cant afford you.

I will give my personal experience.

As a fresh NYSC graduate that year, i was eager to start up with just any job so that i can start building my experiential portfolio. A friend intimated me of an internship role he just turned down coz of proximity. Luckily for me, the coy was a bus away from my house and it was less than 2days since he turned down the offer, so i guessed they would be yet to make a replacement. The very next day, before 9am, i was at that office decked in one my best official wears and armed with my CV and well-worded cover letter i crafted the night before. When the management saw my cover letter, they were really impressed and decided to give me a try. Even though i didnt stay long on the job, i learnt acquired new skills

Summarily, whether or not it is instructed in the job vacancy, it is recommended you accompany your CV with a passionate cover letter. It wont cost you anything at all. Just take some minutes, or an hour at most, to match your skills and experience with the requisite job responsibilities you are applying for. If a mail address was provided for you to send your CV, attach your cover letter as a second document. If the recruiters decide to ignore it, fine! But they will never disqualify you because you attached a cover letter

The job hustle is real! You just have to figure out a way to stand out from the pack. A cover letter really could make all the difference.

I didn't say they shouldn't write a cover letter when applying for a job. Check my previous posts.

Now, GE, Siemens, Cummins Inc etc will ask you for a cover letter. A company I submitted my CV that year with a cover letter, told me they needed handwritten application letter and two passwords. I was shocked.

Shell graduate recruitment this year, they didn't ask for cover or application letter. Shell has conducted best aptitude test in Nigeria, it was online with your system or smart phone.

You just gave one example and it worked for you. What work for you, might not work for another person vice versa. Life is not linear. It varies.

I have given a lot of examples here in my previous posts with cover letter and application letter.

Are you now saying companies don't ask for application letters again? Yes, they do. Graduates have written a lot of cover letters, yet no body called them. Some wrote and were employed. Some didn't write a cover letter but were employed.

In conclusion, Ecclesiastes 9:11 says, " I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. "

A good cover letter should be typed on MS word and attached separately just like your resume/cv.

It is detailed yet concise.

At best what you write on HTML should just be a brief introduction.

Simple instructions and they must be obeyed.

All through my experience, any company or organization that needs cover letter or application letter will require for or ask for it.

Honestly you gave a good advice. But I see it demeaning to give my life to one career line. I could thrive almost anywhere and exploring these options gives me joy. The last time I took a job was 2012 and I have been living on my talent as a self-trained IT person and running offices that are solely my own. Too much degrees will not make you to get lecturing job. My friend with HND got a job in one of the universities via connection. Now, he is quietly doing his M. Sc via FG sponsor to convert to a lecturer. Keep on boosting with ur degrees.

Even Shell graduate recruitment this year, no one wrote a cover or application letter. Even Oando plc too. Even AOS limited too. Dangote plc no one was asked to write a cover or application letter.

All these I was involved. I applied.

I speak with verifiable evidence which is anxiomatic in nature.

General electric, Siemens etc will ask you to upload a cover letter.

It depends on the company or organization.

If they ask you to write a cover letter, write and submit. If they don't, submit only your CV.

Just obey the simple instructions of the job description

Cover letter or application letter, it depends on the organization or company or HRM involved. Some companies will even asked you for hand-written application letter. Nigerian Railway corporation asked for hand-written application letter. Lakewood asked me for handwritten application letter and two passwords though I didn't go for the interview.

You don't have proofs. Just blabbing.

Op, if a company asks you to submit CV only, submit only the CV. If they ask you to submit CV and cover letter, submit both. Just obey the instructions of the job description. If it is not stated, submit both CV and Cover letter or application letter as the case may be.

Two jobs I have gotten so far (I left the first one and rejected the second offer), I didn't write any cover or application letters but the one I am currently I wrote an application letter.

When we are trying to phase out hydrocarbon from now till 2040, you still went ahead and did your M.Sc in Environmental & Petroleum Technology Management just because you want to work in an oil company not for the purpose of solving the problems of humanity.


Chemical Engineering pays well ooo. You would have done your M. SC in Chemical Engineering, that will make you more professional though it is OK
