Politics / Re: Expensive Diesel, Expansive Economic Crisis by EdoBoy90(m): 8:01pm On Jun 27, 2022
Tianamen1:
Dear Author,

Nigeria's current problems with inflation stem for decisions made in the last 12 years. Decisions such as GEJ not saving funds in the excess crude account, to Buhari not raising taxes on the rich and/or reducing recurrent expenditure (reduced compensation for public servants and reducing the number of MDA's)

Nigeria's future problems include the shift to renewables which is being hastened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine as you rightly noted.

Between 2011 and 2014, crude prices average over $110 per barrel and the local cost for a liter of petrol without subsidies in naira was about 140(the amount GEJ set it to before the subsidy protest). the increase in price of diesel isn't as a result of crude oil prices but as a result of the reasons I stated in paragraph 1.

As Milton Friedman said " inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon", so it is true that Nigeria is on a path to hyperinflation because it cannot focus on handling its macroeconomics issues.

You correctly identified the problem, but your solutions would not work.

Nigeria needs to raise taxes on imported goods such as cars, phones, building materials. Basically, tax things that rich people spend money on apart from food, to limit the demand for dollars within the country. This will aid the accretion of our foreign reserves and excess crude account, thus stopping the bleeding of the Naira.

The government should also consider reducing the cost of governance by reducing the number of MDA (implementing the Oronsaye report) and reducing public servants allowances and pay.

This is how to reduce the price of diesel.

Why blaming GEJ after 7 years? Is Buhari ready to reduce the cost of governance? The answer is NO. He would have reduced the cost of governance in 2015.

In peace, Nigerians suffer. In crisis, Nigerians still suffer. Kuwait, UAE/Dubai, and Saudi Arabia are using the crisis in Ukraine to cash out. Oil is booming and we are still suffering in Nigeria. Oil is not booming, we will still suffer. True Leadership is known during crisis not in time of peace. Joseph was known during famine in Egypt. Politics / What Next Nigeria's President Should Focus On by EdoBoy90(m): 2:34pm On Jun 16, 2022
Four key areas need urgent attention and I think that the next President of Federal Republic of Nigeria should focus on;

>Security
>Electricity
>Agriculture
>Education & Health

Security: No where is safe anymore; church, mosque, farm, schools and gatherings. Therefore, this should be a top priority for any presidential candidate. Tell Nigerians the security mechanism you would like to put in place that would be better than what we have currently. What should be done differently.

With our current population of more than 200 million people and a projection of 400m people by 2050, no presidential candidate should have nothing less than 80,000MW of electricity Generation as a target with a subsequent increment plan. Nigeria has 209.5 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves as reported, hydro and sunlight to meet industrial demand. No electricity, economy collapses. Businesses can’t function effectively. Relying on generators is not sustainable in a country with over 200m people.

Agriculture: Food, food and food for sustainable healthy life among Nigerians is very important. Food provides chemical energy/nutrient which enable one to grow and live healthy. Without food, people can’t work or carry out daily activities. Currently, food in Nigeria is not sufficient. People are hungry. Farmers need to be safe in their farm. And security should be a top priority. Mechanized farming is key. There is arable land for agriculture. This should be harnessed effectively. Kaduna State alone can feed the whole country (Nigeria). Nigeria has 691234 sq. Km agricultural land in 2018, according to the World Bank Data.

Nigeria and its Counterparts Comparison: Expedient Developmental Improvement.

Electricity is the life blood of a healthy nation. No nation can do without electricity. Businesses and other economic activities survive on electricity. South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt and Ghana are countries in Africa as a continent. I compared these countries with Nigeria, and why we should do more to improve on where we are with what we have which is abundant gas.

South Africa's electricity generation capacity is 58,095 megawatts (MW) with a population of 59.31 million people (World Bank 2020)

Nigeria's electricity generation capacity is 12,522MW if existing plants are functioning well but only dispatch 4,000MW with a population of 206.1 million people (World Bank 2020)

Egypt's electricity generation capacity is 59,063MW with a population of 102.3 million people (World Bank 2020).

Ghana's electricity generation capacity is 5,134MW with a population of 31.07 million people (World Bank 2020).

With over 200trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, Nigeria should be able to generate electricity that corresponds with her population. Without electricity, no economic activities. Promoting gas or diesel generators here thinking you are an expert to save cost in running a business, it wouldn't have been if there is constant electricity in Nigeria with over 80,000MW generation with reliable and efficient transmission systems. It is so unfortunate that conditionality has made us to pursue what shouldn't have been. Ideally, gas or diesel generators should be on standby for an emergency in case there is grid power interruption. If you can afford generators, what about over 90 million Nigerians without access to grid electricity as reported? Electricity for all remains the best option through generating plants and renewable sources of energy not diesel and gas generators. For sustainability and improvement of all sectors in Nigeria, an expedient action needs to be taken in the energy sector. This will help the manufacturing industry and ensure that over 90 million Nigerians have access to grid electricity. A society must take care of the least through sustainable development.

A healthy people is a healthy nation. The health sector needs a revamp. 7 World class hospitals should be built in the 6 Geopolitical Zones and FCT. While State Governors should build 3 world class hospitals in each senatorial zone at the state level. This can be achieved in less than 6 months in office. Subsequent plan for advancement should be implemented. Healthcare service should be made affordable to the least person in the society. A good society should be able to cater for the least.

I write to appeal to the next President to look into the above. Nigerians have suffered a lot. Good economy and governance are not expensive. People prosper more in a good economy.

2023 Electioneering campaign shouldn't be insults or abuses but how to make Nigeria great. Stop insulting others.

Business / Dangote Cement Spent ₦196 Billion On Fuel And Power In 2021 Due To Inflation by EdoBoy90(m): 6:11am On Jun 16, 2022
Dangote Cement Plc has disclosed that fuel and power consumed by the company increased by 34.4% to N196.634 billion in 2021 from N146.342 billion in 2020.

The Group Chief Financial Officer, Dangote Cement, Mr. Guillaume Moyen who disclosed this at the company’s 13th AGM said the increase was as a result of volume growth and inflationary pressures on the costs.

What the company is saying
Moyen said, “In total, manufacturing costs increased by 25.8% to N551.0 billion from N437.9 billion in 2020 while fuel and power consumed increased by 34.4% to N196.6 billion from N146.342 billion and materials consumed increased by 30% to N175.4 billion from N134.91 billion.

“The increase in Nigeria’s manufacturing costs was mainly driven by energy costs due to increased production volumes and price increases for gas which is pegged to the US Dollar. The Nigerian naira depreciated from N401/1US$ at the end of 2020 to N424/1US$ at the end of 2021.

“Thanks to our continuous cost control efforts, total selling and administrative expenses only rose by 19.6% to N256 billion in 2021 mainly from higher haulage expenses which are driven by volume, AGO costs and other general administrative expenses. Inflationary pressure and the foreign currencies’ conversion to Naira is driving part of this increase.”

The grades are used to select out the final list from the number of recommended candidates.

Your chosen course is also important, any course that you can do the program here in Nigeria no need for overseas.

Dress formally, but not really carries marks because not all candidates wear jackets.

*Any course that you can do the program here in Nigeria not need for overseas* This is not a fact. Mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and electrical engineering, you can do them in Nigeria yet I have seen PTDF scholars in these fields of engineering.

By God's grace, my interview was okay. The panelist head, Dr. gave me his complimentary card.

They asked me to tell them what I want to study, the school and why the school.

My focus is the petroleum industry especially gas which is a transition fuel to net-zero carbon emissions. And Nigrira has more than 200 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves which worth over 800 trillion dollar. With gas, we will address energy poverty that more than 43% of Nigerians lack access to grid electricity as reported by World Bank.

When it comes to oil and gas, the university I chose is number one in the UK with over 40 years of academic excellence and industry experience in the oil and gas industry. The reason I chose the University to pursue my career. One of the panelists based in the UK and he told the other one, he knows what he is saying.

The man was impressed and he had a PhD in Gas Engineering. He said he is happy when he sees someone who wants to focus in gas. They asked hope what I said is on my CV. I said, yes. They now said I should read it out. I read it out and it was there. The man asked me, were you here last year? And, I said, yes! That is why you have an outstanding SOP and they asked you to improve on your SOP right? I said, yes!

He then asked me one question. Which of the FG policy I know that is in-line with what I want to study and I would like to work on when I return? I told him climate change policy and gas as a transition fuel will address the issue of climate change. He was impressed and gave me his card. And the other man asked, does he know it. He said yes. Just simple with me. My first impression made thing easy with me. I networked sharp sharp.

The grade my SOP full mark. Certifications full mark and recommendation. The Dr is my new found mentor.

To cut the long story short, God is wonderful.

I have to share my interview experience, it was bad, I mean very bad but wasn't my fault anyway.

So I went in to meet a 2-man panel. They were of course other panels having 3 persons but when it was my turn, it was the panel with 2 persons that were empty and had requested for an applicant. I was feeling lucky believing I had 2 persons to deal with without knowing it was a bad omen for me. grin grin grin

So they checked all my documents, everything was fine, I had everything with me, but not the panelist. So when it was time for me to present, all hell broke loose. I couldn't believe they were people in this generation and a professor in that matter that haven't heard of nuclear. The very moment I mentioned Nuclear (it doesn't matter how I want to apply the nuclear), he stopped me and said "Nuclear in this Nigeria??" The professor was a very old man with little or no knowledge of the current research. I mentioned the use of Monte Carlo Neutron Transport Codes, but he head of only Monte Carlo and chuckled, saying it was what they used 40-50 years ago shocked shocked Haba, Prof. Calm down and listen nah, but he wasn't having any of it.

I mentioned nuclear waste management, and cleaning of oil spillage, he interrupted me and questioned how can I be mentioning nuclear waste in energy management. He even questioned if nuclear has waste? Jesus, I couldn't believe what happened yesterday. grin grin It was very funny anyway.

So that was how it went yesterday. It was bad with Prof. But then you don't blame him, Prof. didn't believe Ajaokuta steel can work, he said I should forget about what the government was saying that its a scam and just a consultancy project. He was very proud, but I reminded him that the reason why Geregu powerplant was sited very close to Ajaokuta was to supply electricity to the plant. I told him everything he needs to be convinced but then, his mind was made up and I can't change that. Prof. didn't know that Nigeria currently produce 4000MWe of electricity, when I told him that he said it was not true, I told him to check the internet.

He said the only thing that the government should do is to produce energy from Gas, and that Gas is a clean source of energy. We went to Germany where he mentioned that they shut down all their reactors and I told him that they were importing 34% of their electricity demand from France, he said it wasn't true, I told him it was and that the internet is there for him to check. And now asked him what he thinks Germany will do now with the Ukraine Was and stoppage of the gas flow, he got the point anyway.

Well, it was bad with Prof. but the second guy was amazed though openly didn't want to disagree with Prof. manner, so when Prof. went to fetch his tea, we had a good discussion and he even told me to wait and greet Prof. before I leave.

In summary, it wasn't smooth but then, there is nothing to worry about. If I get it fine, if I didn't get it, next year, I will meet prof. again.

Sabinus. PTDF scholarship is oil and gas not Nuclear. He is good is discarded you for not obeying simple instructions.
