PoliticsPDP Chair Bamanga Tukur Is Boko Haram Spokesman - Oritsejafor by edoyad(op): 6:53am On May 26, 2012
m Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), came a bombshell yesterday when he described Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as spokesman of the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

The venue of his outburst was Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he briefed the media on the resolutions of the CAN’s extra-ordinary council meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC). Pastor Oritsejafor said that for Tukur, leader of the biggest party in Africa to have justified Boko Haram’s activities as a fight for justice showed that many leaders in Nigeria were active supporters of the sect.

As the CAN leader spoke, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Jama’atul Nasri Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111, yesterday in Kaduna appealed to members as well as the Muslim Ummah to ensure peace and security reign in the North CAN president wondered the kind of justice, Boko Haram was fighting for when even the Federal Government had paid the family of their slain Mohammed Yusuf, N100 million, claimed as damages for the assumed extra-judicial killing of the sect leader.

“But thousands of Christians are being killed. I know of Pastor Ojeh, from Benue State whom he alleged Yusuf personally killed for refusing to cite some verses of the Quran in Maiduguri. We had since evacuated the widow and three children and paid rent for them in another state. Every Christmas, we would send food and money to them. Who has compensated that family till now; so, what is justice in the eyes of Bamanga Tukur?” Oritsejafor asked.

On the resolutions of the NEC meeting, the CAN president said; “NEC observed the sporadic shootings, incessant killings of Christians, the bombing of churches, silent killings, slaughtering and the silent disposal of corpses of those killed have continued. NEC members believe that contrary to the orchestrated reasons of poverty and injustice, by some Muslim leaders in the North, Boko Haram had been masterminding the series of bomb and gun attacks which are primarily targeted at Christians in its bid to exterminate all forms of Western education and enthrone the Islamic law of Sharia as the universal law in Nigeria.

“The NEC of CAN observes that the total number of people killed by the sect members is far more than it is reported in the media and the sequence of fatal attacks and silent killings present a grim picture of the trauma of Christians in the North. According to the figures presented at the meeting, the 300 deaths recorded in March went up to about 500 in April and by yesterday, May 23, the figure has hit over 1,000 with more number of injured Christians.”

Pastor Oritsejafor said both government and security agencies need to do more to contain the senseless killings and that government should seriously consider Boko Haram as a terrorist group, even as NEC urged the government to mobilize human and financial resources in its fight against the sect.

While reiterating the call for prayers and fasting by all Christian. . . . .
When the small emission level gives one of your relatives cancer, you'll have a rethink. Why can't this government invest in natural gas which we have in abundance and transport them by rail/pipeline, and use storage facilities in key locations thereby making them readily available to gas fired plants?

There are other ways to create jobs than coal mining. A small refinery in Kogi state would be a better investment in my opinion. (costs less than $1billion like the one being built in Anambra)
Can you hear yourself? You're saying we should continue depending on a sector we actually trying to stop being heavily dependent on for everything.
All these talks about Gas this and Gas that are things I've been hearing since I was a child and nothing has become of it.. I'm. sorry to say that Nigeria's petroleum sector is one of the most Corrupt entities on this Planet, and any hopes of anything coming t of there in the immediate future is a tall dream.
This is an opportunity to diversify our revenue base and I hopwe see a fast paced growth.
Coal ko? We have enough natural gas, a substantial quantity which is burning away as waste, yet they want to start using coal fired electric generation plants. I suppose the CO, SO2, and other resulting air pollutants which are by products of such plants will be cleaned up instead of allowing them to substantially increase health risks and depletion of the ozone layer risks.
Nigeria's Industrial Carbon Footprint is just a dot compared to any average Industrial country, not to mention Super Powers. Don't let these people deceive you, even if we quadrupled our emission levels we would not be remotely near Western levels. Yes the Ideal situation would be to focus on gas but Coal is cheap and available for now. It would create Jobs and help states like kogi generate much needed revenue. The Countries telling you to Shun Coal Still have massive Coal mines and Coal power Stations
PoliticsNigeria Finally Resumes Industrial Commercial Coal Mining by edoyad(op):
VENTURES AFRICA – Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Musa Sada, has revealed plans to bolster the country’s electricity generation capacity with coal, a local business daily has reported.

The minister made the disclosure during opening Zuma Coal Mines in Okobo, Kogi State in the Central region of Nigeria.

Sada said that the plan was to make sure that the country did not rely on one source to provide electricity; he said this has become necessary to prevent disappointment when shortage of gas and water occurs.

Chairman of Zuma Group, Innocent Ezuma said that the company has a reserve of of about 380 million tonnes of coal. Ezuma confirmed the minister’s optimism by declaring that within next 18 months; the company would be able to establish a reserve of two billion tonnes.

“Today, we are experiencing a lot of scarcity in water and gas. Our water levels have drastically reduced,” he said.

Ezuma also opined that in other counter challenges to Nigeria’s energy security, there is need “to introduce coal to the energy mix.”

Epileptic power supply has been a thorn in the flesh of economic activities in Africa’s 2nd largest economy for years, with projects and blueprints drawn up and abandoned severally.

Earlier this month, the Federal Government of Nigeria took a firm step at resolving the perennial crisis in the power sector when it signed an agreement with Siemens Limited Nigeria to support the power sector revolution through a range of power solutions and financing options

PoliticsShell, ENI And FG In $2bn Round Tripping Case by edoyad(op): 8:18am On May 24, 2012
Why is Shell always implicated in the dirtiest Corruption cases in Nigeria? And they always get away with it
http://allafrica.com/stories/201205220334.html

Shell, ENI, FG in U.S.$1.9 Billion Round-Tripping Transaction
BY BLESSING ANARO, 22 MAY 2012 In a clandestine shuffle, Shell, ENI subsidiaries in Nigeria and the federal government may have quietly been engaged in a round-tripping payment of $1.092 billion over the long-disputed oil block OPL 245, court documents from a March 2012 New York arbitration case have revealed. Round-tripping, also known as round-trip transactions or "Lazy Susans", is defined by The Wall Street Journal, as a form of barter that involves a company selling "an unused asset to another company while at the same time agreeing to buy back the same or similar assets at about the same price." Round trips are characteristic of the New Economy companies. They played a crucial part in temporarily inflating the market capitalisation of energy traders such as Enron, CMS Energy, Reliant Energy, and Dynegy. In international scenarios, round tripping is used for tax evasion and money laundering as well. According to a report by Global Witness entitled "Shell's obscure payments kill its case for weak US and EU transparency laws" Nigerian subsidiaries of both Shell and ENI agreed to pay $1.092 billion to the Nigerian government for oil block OPL 245 in the country. But at the same time, the same amount was agreed to be paid by the Nigerian government to Malabu Oil and Gas, a company widely reported to be controlled by an Abacha-era minister and convicted money-launderer, Mr. Dan Etete. Global Witness is an international NGO established in 1993 that works to break the links between natural resource exploitation, conflict, poverty, corruption, and human rights abuses worldwide. The documents from the court case showed that Shell and ENI subsidiaries agreed to pay $1,092,040,000 to the federal government to settle any existing claims surrounding the ownership of the long-disputed block OPL 245, although the documents suggest the ENI subsidiary, Nigeria Agip Exploration Ltd, may have made the payments to the government on behalf of both companies as the "operator" of the block. The report noted that a second agreement, made in the same month revealed that the gover

murtalaa: The OP meant to say 'unguwar marina police station'. Its actually not the police headquaters. There was gunshots but not involving boko haram. Lately, Sokoto is afflicted with armed robbery menace where shops are robbed in broad daylight, mostly by ibo armed robbers who take advantage of security situation in the country to perpetrate their evil. Yesterday, there was a gunfight between those gangs and the police.
But the incident truly did occur for those of you doubting, all the bike men were talking about it this morning
