Education › Re: How To Grow More In Knowledge Like Sir Pansophist? by Educonomist(m): 2:52pm On May 17, 2022 |
pansophist: I guess you are referring to quora. That is where I normally read the most. So quora are the Instagram for readers, a place where you go and subscribe to writers and topics that interest you, and read from the world's best in different particular fields. Download the app on your phone, register, pick your interest and just take it as a habit to read there for at least two hours every day, you will be smart, it's that simple. I spend probably three hours every day for the past ten years on quora alone, it's a hobby that I enjoy, and I highly recommend it.
Secondly, be curious. Ask questions about things and google for answers, preferably answers from forums like Reddit, Quora, and even Nairaland, to have an idea of how different people think about it. It is in that chaos you expand your mind and accommodate different perspectives, which helps you forge your own worldview. As well as curiosity, you must know how to think. Ask basic questions, question basic assumptions, be aware of your mental processes (metacognition), try reversing things to see from the other angle, evaluate existing evidence, and understand that no one thinks Critically 100% of the Time.
Thirdly, read philosophical books. There is a reason why philosophy is called ''the mother of all disciplines''. Most of the smartest people on earth are philosophers or enthusiasts of philosophy. The bible is deeply philosophical, regardless if you are religious. Philosophy by its very nature covers all fields of knowledge there is, from logic- the study of reasoning, to epistemology - the study of knowledge, also aesthetics - the study of beauty, and ethics - the study of what is right and wrong, followed by metaphysics - the study of big picture questions, etc. If you are well-grounded in philosophy, no one can stand you. Like a light, your knowledge will destroy the presence of darkness. As in literarily, you will be unbeatable.
Also, realize that practicing all these is what makes you smart. For example, if you take a dirty basket and dip it into a river, it comes out clean every time you take it out. The basket may not retain any water, but with every dip, it gets cleaner, moisturized, and less smelly. The human mind/brain is like that. Every time you read something, your mind gets a little bit sharper. Reading does many things to your mind. It equips you with lots of methods to explain complicated things with the usage of analogies, hypotheses, past events, adages, theories, etc. You can develop these skills by reading from writers from different fields. Each individual has their methods of explaining things (known as idiolects), and the more you are exposed to the method of expressions by different smart people, you become a version of them.
Also, reading helps with eloquence. If you want to be powerful, be eloquent. it is that simple. If you can talk with clear diction, and with deep knowledge of what you are talking about, then you are the most powerful person there is. Some of the most powerful men on the planet are orators, from Martin Luther King's speech ''I have a dream'' which shocked the whole world and challenged institutional racism in the US, to rappers like Tupac that are so skilled with lyrics that until these days, their music are greatest of all times. This is why every religious book talks about caging the tongue because it's the most powerful tool in you if you know how to use it well. You can be the poorest man on earth, but the words out of your mouth will threaten the powers that be, so sharpen it, and be indestructible.
Best regards, and thanks for your appreciation of my contents. Respect. I like your comments mostimes, it's filled with wisdom I'll be so glad if you can list some of the philosophical books |

I don't like the way most Nigerians see corrupt practices as norm,, it's annoying. What pained me most is a lecturer dishing out answers to some set of students for a course he taught in the class in the exam hall, at that moment I knew the education system in Nigeria is gone. This same lecturer will be forming "Mr integrity" when teaching in the class, my respect for him decline for such corrupt act. Some students in my class reserve money for sorting of courses during exam period. People hardly take education serious |

iLegenddNoReply: Does poverty lead to depression and frustration? I have been poor too, but I wasn't depressed or frustrated because of it.
Why are the youths of nowadays becoming so depressed and frustrated the moment there is no money in their accounts?
Can't they just be patient and control their emotions as I used to do? Is it because most times of them are into drugs, fròlicking, and gambling?
Why always looking for someone to abuse when they're frustrated?
Are we to blame Buhari for this or their laziness and entitlement mentality?
If someone like Portable, Mr. Zazoo can make it, anyone can. It's just a matter of time. You don't need to abuse others or act frustrated to prove your state of mind.
Money goes to those who think! It doesn't matter if you're mad, controversial, or calm. As long as you think and take action in the right direction, it will come to you. At what age do you start making it... Depression may likely set in for some guys in their late 20s and early 30s who hasn't achieved much But I don't understand a young guy of 18,19 or early 20s getting depressed just because he couldn't afford to live flashy life... |

dave601: Thanks Educonomist and NDSMELODY... The phrase "on any cash purchase per year" made me think the 15% discount would just be ignored or something, since the distributors didn't make full cash purchase (I mean, they didn't pay in full).
Do you have any thoughts, pls? When you observe the statement,, there's " cash purchase" and "cash payments". The cash purchase for X n Y are 1.25 million and 2.5million and cash payments of N550k and 3 quarters respectively. The 15% discount can't be ignored and it's on the cash purchase on any year. The balance (which is the discounted cash purchase minus the actual cash payments) don't have much effect here as the profit for that year would be from the total amount of sales realized(net income/revenue) minus the cost of production |

Pls I'd like to see your workings. If the the total sales tax is on the cash payments (550,000 & 1,875,00) the the sales tax to the government is 121,250.. The profit then becomes 7.15%

Mario1989: My question to ASUU is, are they suppose to demand for money or demand that FG should put all these things (UTAS, infrastructure) in place? I believe that if FG release this money to them, we will end up hearing stories of MISAPPROPRIATED FUNDS and later EFCC stepping in to investigate some of these ASUU officials... If ASUU are truly fighting for a better university system, then they should demand for these things to be put in place by the FG and not demand for the money... Even if the Govt give ASUU the money demanded, ASUU will embark on another strike in 2/3 years to come.. It has become a "festive strike" |
