Normal level. People must die. Celebration never complete without death. IzunnaOkafor: By Izunna Okafor, Awka
The Anambra State Police Command has announced official ban on the use of knockouts, fireworks and other social explosives during crossover night celebrations and beyond, in any part of the state.
The ban is coming barely two days after a tragic fireworks explosion that claimed two lives during a Christmas carnival in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the incident, which occurred on Monday, December 29, left many shocked, both within the community and beyond, went viral after a video footage of the explosion began circulating widely on social media. The footage, which is currently trending on social media, captures the exact moment the fireworks detonated, triggering loud bangs, and releasing thick smoke and confusion as terrified revelers scampered for safety.
Reports have it that at least two persons lost their lives in the explosion as a result of the fireworks (knockout), while several others, including children, sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to eyewitness accounts, the fireworks were allegedly packed in cartons and brought to the venue to be disposed of during the carnival, before the situation suddenly spiralled out of control.
One of the victims, identified simply as Ugochi, was said to have died instantly at the scene, while another victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later gave up the ghost, and was confirmed dead. There were also fears that the death toll might rise, as some of the injured reportedly sustained severe burns and deep cuts and were still receiving medical attention.
“The knockout exploded like a bomb. Those closest to the stage collapsed immediately. The sound was deafening, and everywhere became chaotic as people screamed and ran for their lives,” an eyewitness recounted.
This was corroborated by a trending video from the scene, showing thick smoke filling the hall, with participants fleeing to different directions, while the injured were hurriedly conveyed to hospitals for treatment.
In a statement issued few days after the incident, ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities, the Anambra State Police Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, released a clear directive prohibiting the use of knockouts and other explosives during the yuletide period.
Announcing the ban in a statement issued on December 31, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, warned Anambra residents against the burning of tyres and the use of any form of social explosives, particularly during crossover night celebrations and beyond.
According to the Command, the ban is aimed at safeguarding lives and property, maintaining public order, preventing damage to government roads, avoiding environmental hazards, and eliminating security threats that may arise from such dangerous practices.
He stressed that the burning of tyres, fireworks, knockouts, firecrackers or any explosive devices poses serious risks to public safety and would not be tolerated under any guise in the state.
The Police further called on parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in such acts, warning that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CP Orutugu also reassured Ndi Anambra that the Police Command, in synergy with other security agencies, has intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations across the state to ensure a peaceful, safe and crime-free yuletide and crossover celebration.
While encouraging residents to celebrate responsibly, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and wished Ndi Anambra a peaceful and joyous yuletide season. |

Crossover service is clubbing for the faithful. It’s why it doesn’t last till 5 a.m. Clubs normally close by 4 in the morning. I suspect it will be the same for crossover events. You and person wey do crossover for nightclub no different. Na how una choose to express unaselves different. Prophit: Some years ago, I was in FUTO. I left my lodge to an all night in ikenegbu. It was my state headquarters, I was a leader in the campus fellowship.
Nobody from FUTO came because obviously many students had gone back home. I didn't want to go home. I needed to use that time to pray and fast.
Service finished few minutes past 12. I asked to sleep in church since I couldn't actually be heading back to FUTO that night.

However, I learnt a lesson. Not to tempt God in a country like Nigeria.

Meh. Lagos something. I am not interested. It is Detty December which concerns me. Why should I risk my life and properties from going to view masquerades? ayloveit: Today, I attended the Eyo Festival in Lagos, and what I experienced was far from what social media usually shows.
At first, the atmosphere was chaotic and frightening. Masquerades were beating people with sticks, crowds were running, and I was almost attacked myself. People began removing their shoes and walking barefoot, and I followed — not out of curiosity, but out of fear.
This experience forced me to understand why the Eyo Festival was restricted and suspended for years due to security concerns. What many people call a “festival” is actually a deep cultural and ancestral tradition, one that demands respect, preparation, and understanding.
Later, the tension eased. We were allowed to move with the masquerades as they danced and paraded through the streets, revealing the beauty, history, and meaning behind the chaos.
This video is not made to mock or glorify violence. It is an honest documentation of culture — raw, intense, and real.
If you’ve ever attended the Eyo Festival, share your experience in the comments. And if you’re planning to attend one day, let this video prepare you. |

2027 is coming. He should not forget to tell people how he lent out his house to me then slept in the market square during midnight. It seems he'll be generous enough to sell the whole country to a foreign nation if he becomes president. I support him wholeheartedly. Freshtruth: 3r5q6L3I Once Cleaned the Toilet of an Aircraft As a Serving Governor — Peter Obi
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, says leadership by example is central to confronting Nigeria’s security challenges.
Obi spoke while answering questions from a cross-section of Nigerians during an interactive X Space on Sunday.
The former Anambra governor said security has deteriorated and requires leaders who demonstrate discipline, responsibility and accountability.
Responding to questions on how he would tackle security challenges, Obi narrated a personal experience to illustrate his approach to leadership.
Obi said he once travelled on British Airways while serving as a governor and encountered an aircraft toilet that was badly messed up.
According to him, a woman who worked with the Lagos State Government under Babatunde Fashola opened the toilet, saw its condition and walked away.
Obi, who was a governor at the time, said he went into the toilet and cleaned it himself without informing anyone.
“There was somebody who works for the Lagos State Government, for Fashola’s government. She works with a law firm,” Obi said. “We were coming back on British Airways years back; I was a serving governor. The entire toilet was messed up. She opened that toilet to use it; it was messed up and she walked away. I went in there, and she came back. The entire place was cleaned. She didn’t even tell me, but she told a minister and somebody else where she works in the office.
She said, ‘I can’t believe this’. The people called me; I said I cleaned it because maybe I would be the next person that would go back there to use it. When you see things that are wrong, clean them. I don’t have house help in my house; everybody knows that. Let us stop all this f+ke life.”
Obi added that he is better prepared to tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges if given the chance. |

Sports › Re: Daniel Cormier Says UFC Fighters Are Already Earning More Ahead Of Paramount Era by eepeepook: 2:18pm On Dec 30, 2025 |
If the fighters get paid, I won’t complain. Dana’s fat head is too greedy. By the way, the sport is the most exciting form of combat I’ve ever watched. Why does the UFC still struggle to attract eyeballs? afrocombat: Daniel Cormier believes UFC fighters are about to benefit financially in a major way as the promotion prepares to launch its new era on Paramount. And according to the former two-division champion, the money boost has already started.
The UFC’s massive seven-year streaming deal with Paramount, reportedly worth $7.7 billion, officially begins with UFC 324 on January 24. The agreement eliminates the traditional pay-per-view model, creating a single platform for all UFC events. While fans continue to debate what this means for the sport, Daniel Cormier insists fighters are coming out ahead.
Speaking on the Weighing In podcast with longtime teammate Josh Thomson, Daniel Cormier said the shift away from pay-per-view has quietly increased fighter pay across the roster.
“They’re already getting more money, that’s the difference,” Cormier said. “People always talk about, ‘What’s the UFC going to do for the fighter?’ I know guys now that are making more money than they did even when they were making pay-per-view, because pay-per-views just maybe weren’t selling as much as they used to.”
Cormier pointed to his own peak years as an example of how different the landscape is today. During his rivalry with Jon Jones and title fights featuring stars like Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, Nick Diaz, and Nate Diaz, pay-per-view points drove massive payouts. According to Cormier, that era no longer reflects current buying habits.
“When I was fighting Jon Jones and Rumble, and we had Nick Diaz and Nate Diaz on the card, I was making a boatload of money in pay-per-view,” he said. “That’s not the reality of today.”
With piracy, streaming, and declining pay-per-view buys, Daniel Cormier believes the old system stopped making sense. In his view, the new model replaces uncertain backend earnings with guaranteed money, benefiting fighters at every level.
“Today, a big pay-per-view number was 500,000 or 600,000,” Cormier explained. “People are stealing it on streams. The numbers just weren’t great. I know guys who went to the UFC and said, ‘Can we restructure now that pay-per-view is gone?’ And the UFC said yes.”
Cormier added that the new structure removes pressure from champions to sell massive numbers just to earn their worth.
“The guy at the beginning of the card is going to do better, and the guy at the very top is going to do better,” Cormier said. “They’re giving these guys more money.”
As the UFC enters the Paramount era, questions remain about promotion, event presentation, and fan experience. But from Daniel Cormier’s perspective, one thing is already clear: fighters are seeing real financial gains, and the shift away from pay-per-view may finally level the playing field across the roster. |

You slept with your ex, what is the news here?
Women are no different from men — they take chances when presented opportunities. The same way a man will sleep with another woman when in a relationship is no different from how a woman will. Men often don’t get interest until they can secure a female. One wouldn’t blame an incel for trying his luck after catching a girlfriend. I knew some women who would actively toast guys they were interested in because a simp raised her confidence via showing interest. If it worked for her, good. If it failed, she returned back to her “unworthy” suitor, ready to try another guy. |

Nobody forced you to use Nairaland. If you can’t generate arguments with your God-given brain, the door is wide open to leave. Kobojunkie: The vast majority of the ills — quick wealth culture—, including the problems of bad parenting— most Nigerian parents spend more days and nights praying for wealth and long life, than hours spent in an average day focused on the nurturing and well-being of their children— among others are primary caused by those in your traditional/religious circles. You cannot teach people values you yourselves do not hold to or adhere to. And that is why even the children of your pastors cannot be vouched for when it comes to these teachings of values, character, etc. Unless you are ready to cast down your many gods or men who also praise wealth and keep parents away from raising better children by organizing numerous services and vigils each week, you are not ready to face the real problems were they really lie. |
