Romance › Re: My Eye-opening Experience: Are We All Just Hedonists In Disguise? by eepeepook: 9:59pm On Dec 25, 2025 |
Hypocrisy. Only death separates humans from the trait. SpyMaster1: Merry Christmas to everyone! Today, December 25, 2025, I decided to step out and soak in the festive vibes at the Uyo Christmas Village. What I witnessed there has got me thinking deeply about human nature, and I just had to share it here for some discussion. The place was buzzing with energy – lights everywhere, music blasting, food stalls overflowing, and people from all walks of life letting loose. I saw old men chilling with bottles of beer, cracking jokes and laughing like they were teenagers again. Old women and ladies were dancing, sipping colorful cocktails, snapping selfies, and indulging in everything from grilled suya to ice cream and games. Families were there too, but even the adults seemed to forget their worries, chasing that momentary high of joy and pleasure. It hit me hard: We humans are inherently hedonistic, aren't we? We chase pleasure, comfort, and enjoyment at every opportunity. Whether it's through food, drinks, music, or just the thrill of the crowd, we're wired to seek out what feels good. But here's the real question that's been bugging me – why do we pretend otherwise? In our daily lives, we put on this facade of being all serious, disciplined, and "moral." We judge others for "partying too much" or "living recklessly," yet when the lights dim and the festivities kick in, we're right there in the mix. Is it society? Religion? Fear of judgment? Or are we just hypocrites who deny our true selves to fit in? I'd love to hear your thoughts, Nairaland. Have you had similar experiences? Do you think hedonism is our default mode, or is there more to it? |
Family › Re: Help, How Should I Handle This Family Secret? by eepeepook: 9:21pm On Dec 25, 2025*. Modified: 10:56pm On Dec 26, 2025 |
What a well written story. So, somehow, I should believe that 99% of the family knows of this secret, yet the father doesn’t? This is why I don’t watch Nollywood movies. So, your elder brother looks like grandma, your elder sister looks like your aunt and the last born looks like your granduncle. You, on the other hand, look like the security guard — and somehow no alarm bells have been rung? Abeg, tell me another story. Okay, weak men afraid to raise another’s kids, food don done. Let me drop advice since I’m waiting for sleep to carry me: whoever raised you is your father. Blood means nothing if you weren’t treated well. The person imprinted in your mind from four years old to adulthood is your legitimate parent. If the man is so good, he’s already set your share of inheritance. Kcash200: Hi guys,
I have a problem i have been dealing with since i was 12. I am from a large family and when i was 12, my mum told me my Dad is not my biological father and for me to make it a secret. I did not know what to do with such an information at that age but i knew it was wrong but i couldnt talk so i am not the one who destroys the family. Everyone lives in peace but i always wonder what will happen if only they know the truth. My biological father has other children and some of them know me that i am outside. He was involved in my life financially from 12years as far as i am aware of. He sent me money then and i kept quiet too and also supported me financially a couple of times though we have no personal relationship asides 2-3mins phone calls here and there and it is been like that for years.
I know my biological father and we kept in touch while i was in secondary school. Now that i am an adult now, i feel really sad about the whole thing and sometimes i even cry on my bed. I have been living in secret and a double life and fearing i might be outed one day. Some people in my mother's family are aware which is very strange and i find it shameful as a man now but i did not choose my fate. I have always tried to forget it and just leave my life but it is always just there especially when i think about starting my own family. I am striving hard for it not to define the way i see marriage and life as i am trying to write a different story for myself.
I grew up with my father who is not my biological father and i have been a good son to him as well and still taking care of him but it bothers that my whole life is a lie and it is hard knowing what i know and i can't say anything as that will scatter the family. I met some girls from a very good home who i can marry but i am scared if i tell her or other girls, that her parent will not let me marry her with that secret.
I am scared of getting married publicly as someone can take the news to my biological father as i do not intend to invite him as my biological father but i always feel heavy anytime i think about it. I want to start a new life for myself but i don't know how to handle this. I do not plan to tell my father as he is getting old and this can kill him at his old age as he has been through a lot in life. He is finally enjoying and i am taking care of him very well and he prays for me all the time.
I am building a good life for myself as a professional and have a lot of girls around me but i don't know what to do. Should i keep quiet and tell the girl i marry after marriage ? Isn't that me building my marriage on deceit. It is a shameful thing to talk about if you look at it.
Sometimes, i feel like they caused me trauma putting me in this position but i am an adult now and will bear responsibility for how i live my life and cant continue to blame any trauma or anyone. I am the one who has to keep quiet for peace to reign in the family.
I don't want to wait too long just incase it is a dealbreaker for someone but i also don't want to be disclosing to anyone.
Aside from marriage, i still do not know what to do with that information. |

December has six days to finish and you’ve started the Detty December flood of articles? You also need more paragraphs, mainstream journalists will create 20,000 word reports. Visiting home is never a bad idea unless one is based in their hometown. sinorte: Every December, it feels like the entire country is on the move. Airports are jam-packed, bus stations buzzing, and Nigerians from Lagos to London, Abuja to Atlanta all heading home for the ultimate festive reunion. The vibe? Pure December madness! But here’s the real question: is it worth all the hype?
On one hand, nothing beats that first hug from family, the smell of smoky jollof wafting through the house, and the festive chaos that only Naija can deliver. Street parties, music blasting, laughter echoing through the neighbourhood—it’s the ultimate homecoming vibe. These moments? Absolutely priceless. They’re the stuff memories are made of, and for many, it’s the highlight of the year.
But let’s keep it real—the struggle is real too. Tickets are ridiculously expensive, traffic will test your patience (and your sanity), and then there’s the pressure to “show up” like you’ve been living in a music video. Add the stress of packing, flight delays, and logistics, and suddenly Netflix with pepper soup sounds like a solid plan. Is the joy of reconnecting worth the cost and chaos? Or is it time to redefine what “celebrating at home” really means?
So, what’s your move? Boarding that flight or chilling where you are? Drop your thoughts—because this debate is hotter than fresh suya and twice as spicy! 🔥 |

He spent up to five years? Where is his recent picture? Hushpuppi might come home next year. If not, 2027 is sure. Sothelo: Nigerian businessman Invictus Obi released from U.S. prison, faces deportation after serving five-year fraud sentence
The U.S. Bureau of Prisons has released Nigerian serial fraudster and businessman, Invictus Obi Okeke, after spending six years in jail for scamming America-based businesses of $11 million between 2015 and 2019.
Mr Okeke, arrested in 2019, was no longer in custody as of Wednesday with arrangements for his deportation to Nigeria underway as stipulated in his guilty plea agreement.
FBI agents arrested Mr Okeke in August 2019 at the Dulles International Airport in Virginia where he had booked a flight to return to Nigeria.
He was tried and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in February 2021 but released on Wednesday, seemingly benefitting from the first-step prison reform policy that President Donald Trump signed into law in his first term.
The reform shortened sentences for offenders based on adherence to certain standing behavioural rules. The fraudster is believed to have qualified under the policy.
He was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit computer fraud. Mr Okeke stole the login credentials of Unatrac Holding Limited, a company that exports Caterpillar industrial machinery, and intercepted emails to divert payments. He dubiously pocketed approximately $11 million.
Investigations by the FBI revealed that Mr Okeke masterminded a computer hacking scheme, compromising emails to rob unsuspecting victims of millions of dollars.
“Through subterfuge and impersonation, Obinwanne Okeke engaged in a multi-year global business email and computer hacking scheme that caused a staggering $11 million in losses to his victims,” a statement by Raj Parekh, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, stated in 2021.
The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court issued an order for the temporary forfeiture of over N280 million in Mr Okeke’s Nigerian bank accounts.
Mr Okeke, 38, before his criminal activities came to light, was celebrated in the Forbes 30-under-30 section in 2016 as one of Africa’s most promising entrepreneurs.
Described as the founder of Invictus Group with a humble background, Forbes said Mr Okeke named his company “after one of Nelson Mandela’s favorite poems, by William Ernest Henley, about the undefeated and unconquerable soul of a hard worker, from an impoverished background, who will not give up.”
Forbes praised Mr Okeke for his investment in construction, agriculture, oil and gas, telecoms and real estate.

There have been complaints by some Yoruba traders in Lagos that sales have dropped because the Igbos have traveled back to south east for Christmas. One trader even said that this usually happens during Christmas period and it's affecting there sales.
This has confirmed what we've been saying all this years that without the Igbos in Lagos, the economy of the state will be reduced to almost nothing. |
