Bawo is okay. He was shot 6 times point blank by gangsters in downtown chicago. He's currently recording a rap album about it. This 2010 his pepper must rest. So no time for nairaland. The above "prophecy" was posted by Tudor on 1st January this year @ https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-374355.0.html Makes me wonder, really. Anyways, Rest In Peace is traditional. |

@ JazzyPhizzle Pray, what position exactly did you apply for?? I wrote for experience hire on 14th September (@ Kimberly Ryan) and subsequently got a mail from one Mamman Madu from Stanbic's Hr Dept, informing me that I was successful. Since then, I've not heard from them. Just yesterday, I learnt they are inviting freshers who passed the aptitude test for interviews. Makes me wonder how organized the whole thing is, really. |

Big Brother Africa: A Frenzy of Spitting! By: JEAN SUTHERLAND WILDER than the great outdoors. Better than sex. As addictive as nicotine. The curtain came down on Big Brother Africa All Stars last night, leaving tens of thousands of fans across the continent staring blankly at … well, a blank screen. Yip, that dreaded moment has arrived; that time when fans have to confront their demons, get to grips with their addiction and get real in the real world. Errrrrrr … yes! Hope you all hung on to your day jobs. Believe me, people will be going through withdrawal symptoms. Y’know that jittery fumbling for the remote, that insatiable sense of abandonment, empty TV screen syndrome, that urge to click on the keyboard and vote for your favourite. You name it, BBA fanatics will be experiencing it. If you have any suggestions on how diehard fans can cope, do drop us a line at bba@namibian.com.na Otherwise, by the time you read this, the winner of the US$200 000 will be known. I have no idea, as of now, who it is. The frontrunners were Nigeria’s Uti and Zimbabwe’s Munya with some Mumu fans predicting a 14-nation sweep! Won’t be surprised if either Munya or Uti wins, though I’m up for a surprise! Sadly, it looked unlikely (this is an understatement, of course!) that a woman would pull it off this year. Not that I believe that BBA should introduce the type of zebra system advocated by Founding President Sam Nujoma. Housemates should win for who they are , Still, given the vagaries and hypocrisies when it comes to judging men and women, the odds are, in general, stacked against the fairer sex. You know, like when a guy and a girl get their romantic on – the guy is hailed as ‘the dude’ in about every shebeen across Africa, while the baying masses howl for the woman to be burnt at the stake. For a woman, you have to be something of a cross between Mother Teresa and Naomi Campbell, and even then the chances of winning seem as unlikely as Mother Teresa throwing a cellphone at someone! Abeg, abeg, abeg. God forbid. ‘KILL BILL’ So yip, 91 days of watching the housemates eat, pray and love has ended. But not without some last-minute drama. You betcha! On Saturday, a worse for wear Munya got his cry-oba on and threw his toys out of the cot, along with his dummy, in an orgy of self pity. Aitsa! The f-word flowed as freely as an elephant with a rampant case of the runs dispensing a steaming pile of shyte, as he insulted and threatened to “kill” one or the other housemate. Sheila, Lerato and Mwisho. Mumu could not keep it in his pants … and hey, hey, hey, I’m not talking ‘two-minute-noodle’ syndrome here! Munyalozi was in everyone’s face like a horse fly buzzing around a cow’s butt. Literally. Worst of all, he took to mouthing his contempt for fellow housemates by spitting. Not once, not twice, not thrice. Multiple times. Enough to get him disqualified, according to some comments in the blogosphere. Eish, can’t help wondering if the spitting is linked to the ‘Fear Factor’ task the housemates did, which involved hissing cockroaches among others. Could it be possible that some of those little hissers mated with Munyu’s tortured, small man syndrome psyche, morphing into the spitting Mumu we saw on Saturday? Now there’s a movie idea, ‘Invasion of the Spitting Mumus’! Look, in some ways I feel for the guy. It seems as though he has self-esteem issues when it comes to making friends. He’s said as much himself. And he’s convinced himself that others don’t respect him, which appeared to be at the root of Saturday’s plague of petulance. But hella, he doesn’t make it any easier on himself. As far as I know, spitting at people is not in the handbook on ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’. At one point, Munya – shouting ‘I’ll kill you’, ‘I’ll kill you’ – edged his face so close to Mwisho’s that it looked as though they were about to rub noses. The Tanzanian didn’t flinch and stared him down. With that a spitting and hissing … eish, I mean dissing … Munya fled upstairs and aimlessly hauled out The Bible in an apparent bid to polish his image, a favourite ploy of his as BBA regulars will know. Still, don’t be surprised if the Zimbabwean wins! The wheels came off too late for many fans, who were yesterday bemoaning that they’d been “played”. OK peeps, that’s it for today … Mwah! – We hope to bring you a few interviews and post-show gossip over the next few days. http://www.namibian.com.na/news/africa/full-story/archive/2010/october/article/a-frenzy-of-spitting/ |

South Africa‘s Standard Bank said it was likely to cut jobs, with an emphasis on managers and executives in Johannesburg and London, as it looks to cut costs due to lower revenue. Africa‘s largest bank by assets said in an e-mailed statement on Tuesday that revenue pressure would ”probably continue” during 2011 and that it was looking to cut staff in ”head office environments.” Banks in Africa‘s largest economy have struggled as high unemployment and household debt levels have blunted demand for loans and hurt corporate spending. Standard Bank, according to Reuters on Tuesday, reported a nine per cent rise in first-half profit in August, helped by a decline in bad loans. However, net interest income and non-lending revenue, the two most important earnings measures for a commercial bank, both declined. The bank said in the statement that it was reviewing its costs, including staff costs. ”This review is likely to lead to retrenchments at all levels, with emphasis on managers and executives within the various ‘head office‘ environments, particularly Johannesburg and London.” The bank did not say how much of its 50,000 staff it intended to cut. Standard Bank has recently hired some high-profile bankers from competitors, including the head of Africa transaction banking at Standard Chartered. Standard Bank‘s chief executive, Jacko Maree, told Reuters last month the lender was in ”hiring mode” for skilled bankers, and aimed to double its Nigerian branch network this year. Standard Bank, which is 20 per cent owned by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, is looking to position itself as a full-service gateway t Africa http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201010060562218 |
