Nwogbe:
My noble colleagues in the huz, wot drug can I give my laying birds (zartech) to stop their cough? I have administered tylodox and doxitel but haven't gotten effective result.
Good-day sir, tylodox contains tylosin and doxycycline while doxitel contains doxycycline. If tylodox did not give you results, then doxitel would not likely give you as well. Has a Vet assessed your birds? If yes, what's the reason for the cough? If the suspicion is for CRD, you might want to consider another anti-mycoplasmal (like enrofloxacin or ciprofloxacin) for 5-7 days and afterwards, give mentofin for 3days to decongest/clear their airway (mentofin is given after completion of antibiotic treatment). If they are on deep litter, change the litter as well. Best of luck sir.

Good day house. My birds are now producing eggs to the glory of God. They started laying at 19weeks and 5days and two weeks later we are doing 20% production daily (equivalent to 18crates considering the numbers I have). At maximum capacity I should collect 80 crates daily. My farm is located in the Abuja/nassarawa axis and I have eggs to sell to interested esteemed house members. Also, if you have clients/customers who wish to buy in my axis, please contact me. I can be reached on 08035993454. Cheers.

okay so after rereading and rereading every, I decided to get some layers but I still decided to experiment with 50broilers gotten from chi basically on the 31st of last month... so for the first 2weeks I lost none, feeling fly with myself as it was my first time and I didn't loose any, but after 2weeks n some days ...mehn the death started, most of th looked like they were stampeded... between two days like 10of them were dead, 5looked battered ..stampede I guess, the others looked like they died of natural causes...just dropped.. then I started noticing sent weak ones, they stopped being active and all, wouldn't eat nor drink, just standing there like they were cold, some struggled weakly till they died, even while on the floor..chipping weakly to death, while some other weak ones ended up bin stampeded before morning, or so I think... so in all I have 33left, getting to 3 weeks old, so any ideas as to what I did wrong? the ones left seem very strong and active thou... i dunno how to solve the stampedes thou, cos they like cuddling up every night, some even go underneath the others when its time to sleep...for heat I use a lantern, although I noticed this period just seems excessively cold.... so I am guessing the other things i might have done wrong were...I gave the vaccine wrong? they were just meant to die? cold? ideas anyone...cos its annoying picking up dead birds morning... I know I would do better the next time since I have some reasons I think may have caused them.. but if u think i flopped in anyway I am open for suggestions.
I would say ur birds were exposed to cold unduely; the reason for the stampeding and death ( stampeding invariably leaves death in its wake). You would also try to avoid winds into the brooder as it also makes your heating much less effective. Wish u the best

@AkayTopsy, thanks alot for the zartech contact u assisted me with. I called him and we discussed. He says I can get my supply in a month if I book now. He however declined assisting with transport arrangements as much as I tried to appeal to him, even as I was willing to pay for any services rendered; but again, I know its solely my responsibility to transport my birds; going to pick them up in ibadan is not feasible considering my location (fct) and d nature of my job. Sir, I would appreciate it if u have any transporter's contact in ibadan that has delivered your birds before so I could discuss terms with him. Thanks again

Eggcelent:
House, please, what causes a laying bird to develop a purpleish (light blue) face/wattle? And what are the suggested treatments? Thanks.
Eggcelent, from sources i have read, a purplish face/wattle might indicate a respiratory illness or a heart condition; it may also be seen when the weather is really cold and also in fat overweight birds. Questions would have to be asked whether only one or several birds are affected; whether it is only noticed when the layer is active or persists even when at rest; whether or not there's also difficulty in breathing and facial swelling; whether the birds are overweight? Consider feed reduction for overweight birds, warmth during unduly cold conditions +/- application of vaseline on their wattles; a source suggested putting aspirin in their drinking water if a heart condition is suspected as it helps and it is safe; and when a respiratory illness is suspected especially when the purple/blue wattles are noticed with difficult breathing & cough, d specific cause shud b identified and treated. A vet's opinion may be sought as well. My theoretical 2 cents. Im quite certain my elders in the house will throw more light sir.

Thank you all my mentors/brothers/sisters for the words of encouragement. I am greatly moved by this outpouring of love. God will continue to enlarge our coast.

@Jamp...... Kindly commence milling your feed cos that is the only way to reduce cost. I have been using my compounded mills for more than 2yrs now and it has been working . Please ,quickly switch to local feeds and take the steps Laposta advised you in his post.

Thank you.
@omotiti, do you also compound your chick and grower mash? Do you have similar egg production rates compared to when you u used ready-made feed in the past?

Hello House,
Happy to announce that our birds dropped first egg last week @ 19wk 4days.however since then we have gotten atotal of only 24eggs from the 3,263 birds.
From all I have learnt from the seniorsin this forum I believe that there is nothing abnormal about this.
We continue to keep a close watch and take adequate steps towards good pullet management practices.
Your invaluable advice is always welcome.
