I have to mention that the reason it seems my analysis of secondary market bond purchases seems to imply a higher yield is that I've only been considering bonds purchased at a discount.
If the purchase price were at a premium to the bond's face value, the yield would be lower. The instance cooldudeng gave in his post above, buttresses this point.
Exactly what I was thinking about. This thread has really been impactful!
But why would bond be sold at a discount? Could it be desperation to offload the bond?

Since the guy bought 100,000 units, with each having a face value of N100, he will get 10m upon maturity.
Hence from your explanations, it is always more profitable to purchase bonds at the secondary market?

I will be interested in such (visionscape) after 2019 elections because they are highly politically exposed.

Thank God for the rating Agencies. I may be skeptical on any bond with a rating below B+, but I'd be pretty much comfortable with those having B+ or higher.

I know ratings can be manipulated, but I don't think such practice is really prevalent.

Another gauge, is if most asset managers and PFAs are buying into a bond, it'd spell some more comfort for me.

That Visionscape bond, can you give us more info on it.

I once learnt that the minimum investment for Eurobonds with Investment One Financial Services is $200k (N72 m).

I'm sure with time, we'll find out more about other investment houses.
I think it is far less than that...they pool the fund together from various investors to invest in the bond. But my take in that is that 6% is low as the interest rate even though all payments will be made in USD. The fairly stable forex at the moment might tempt one to converting the USD to NGN, invest and reconvert the money to USD when it matures!

@POLITICSNGR

Information reaching the PoliticsNGR newsdesk on Thursday afternoon reveals that the 36 state governors in Nigeria have agreed to the withdrawal of $1 billion from the country's Excess Crude Account(ECA) to be used in funding the fight against Boko Haram.

This development was made public by the Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki while addressing state house correspondents in Abuja after a meeting of the National Economic Council in the Presidential Villa.

The meeting was headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo since President Buhari is currently out of the country for a meeting in France.

Mr. Obaseki disclosed that the approval was announced during the 83rd NEC meeting by the chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.

The Nigerian Excess Crude Account had a balance of $2.317 billion as at December 13, 2017.

Business / Re: Gomyway Is Shutting Down Business Operations In Nigeria by Egie4real: 6:31pm On Sep 29, 2017
What was the business plan in the first place? Grown your subscribers base then just pull out! Strange idea.

paulstrings:
GoMyWay is a ride-sharing marketplace connecting passengers with ride owners going along the same route and have empty seats to spare.

Go My Way was founded by Damilola Teidi and Sim Shagaya Konga CEO on the board.

I registered on the platform in 2015 during my NYSC and I saw huge potential in the online ridesharing platform. It was one of the earliest ridesharing platforms in the country.

Jekalo {A CcHub ridesharing app} and GoMyWay launched around the same period, but I think GoMy way was more consistent and popular.

They might not have the resources like UBER and Taxify, but they have lots of dedicated subscribers and an excellent service.

Here is the mail I got from the CEO

=================================================================================

Hi Paul ,

I hope you are doing well. It is with deep regret that I write this email to let you know that GoMyWay will be closing down. In this email, I'll let you know why we are closing as well as offer an alternative service. I hope you take a few minutes to read.

In 2015, I was hired as the CEO, via recommendation by my previous employers, to run GoMyWay. The plan by its Shareholders/Investors was to run a free service for a year or two, and focus on growing the user-base.

Over the last 2 years, the team put in time and effort to growing the business and building a trusted ridesharing community. We went from less than 1000 members in the first few months to 12,000+ members; 106,630 rides offered and rides shared across 16 states. However, it does take a lot of resources to run this business and the initial plan was no longer sustainable. The Shareholders/Investors came to a conclusion to shut down operations and close the business as there were no funds to invest further.

I want to specially thank you for your support. I believe GoMyWay had the best community and I can write a few pages about it. We had users who spread the word about us even when we had no referral codes to give in return. I remember when Yinka visited a member and he had mentioned how everyone in his office now uses GoMyWay through him. We had users who were always available to share amazing ideas with us. It's no surprise that the second highest acquisition channel was referrals/word of mouth.

It does break our hearts to end this wonderful community and we did try to keep it going, but the team has decided to keep the platform running till the end of October. From today, the signup page will no longer be accessible and customer support would also be winding down.

I'm so proud of everyone that worked on GoMyWay. The business was blessed to have the most dedicated and hardworking staff who put in more than their time into this. Some of our users have come in contact with our staff, so they know I am not exaggerating. Thank you Yinka, Favour, Segun, Ope, Ayo, Busayo, Doyin and all the contract staff and interns that worked with us. God bless you immensely.

Lastly, I felt it would be unfair to leave you and other users hanging with no alternative; so, if you are resident in Lagos and in need of an affordable ride to/from work, please check out the guys at Shuttlers who run an affordable shuttle service for professionals. If interested, fill out their form HERE

Thank you very much, Paul; and please feel free to reply this email if you would like to reach me. I will try to reply to as many as possible.

With Love,

Damilola

My Opinion

If the Investors were actually pulling out, it could have been sourced to New investors instead of collapsing the entire platform.

Look at the statistics
12,000+ members.
106,630 rides.
Plenty great reviews across the internet.

With the above statistics, They pull in a new set of investors or go into partnership with another company.
I see that they are presently referring their customers to another platform{Shuttle.ng} which might suggest a partnership deal or something similar though they promised to keep the platform running till October 2017.

Whatever the reasons are, I feel GoMyWay could still be saved.

thats what happen when two individual did not do the courting the way its supposed to be. Another thing is that they might have been rushed into the marriage. Its well with the man, if his wife ever come back, he should try spice up the marriage. Don't dull
I believe if a woman leaves her matrimonial home once and come back again... She will have the intention of leaving a thousand times and still come back! Marriage shouldn't be something one rushes into especially when not much is being known about your partner. I blame the man because most women can hardly keep secrets hence they prefer to talk out their hearts through discussion. The man would have find a way to pretend to be engaging in her gists even if passively. My advice... Both parents should be come together with one purpose of making the marriage work!

Business / Re: What You Need To Know About The Currency Swap Agreement Between Nigeria/china by Egie4real: 5:46pm On Apr 16, 2016
MathsChic:
This move by the Buhari administration is almost a strategic one. You'd recall that the Naira/USD exchange rate took a dive during those troubled periods once Nigerian importers who had made deposits with Chinese firms began to source for dollars to meet their varying commitments. That exchange rate would have seen less pressure, were they sourcing for the Yuan instead, a currency Chinese firms will accept. The trade between Nigeria and China was once recorded at over $11b dollars with, of course, the imbalance being to Nigeria's disfavour. But that's not the point; Nigeria has never really been an exporting country.

Nevertheless, it's obvious there's a lot of trade going on between the two countries. Since you couldn't exchange Naira directly for Yuan, but had to first obtain the USD, the various additional costs incurred during the two-stage transaction ensured Nigerian firms spent more money doing business with Chinese firms. In addition, by not first exchanging to the USD Nigeria can start reducing its dependence on the dollar. And now, I don't have to tell you how much the greenback swings the Nigerian market.

Not to get it wrong though. This will not increase the money in Nigeria's pocket, neither will it completely eliminate dependence on the dollar since some countries will not accept the Yuan while trading with Nigeria. In fact, Nigeria will have to convert a sizeable amount of its earning to the Chinese legal tender causing the country to hold less dollar. However, if a significant amount of trade is happening with China, there is no reason the Nigeria shouldn't have a Yuan trading hub.

The Naira will be the latest in a string of currencies which currently trade with the Yuan. There is already direct trade with the dollar, euro, yen, pound, the Australian Aussie, the New Zealand dollar, Russia's rouble, Swiss francs, the Singaporean dollar and the Malaysian ringgit. By joining the list of these countries, Nigeria is expressing its desire to take China seriously as a global economy and directly take on the benefits that come with that.

Clear explanation... But the government should go further to restrict importation of some products that we can produce locally. This is necessary because China will flood Nigerian market with all manners of goods. Also trade discrepancies should be valued in neutral currency like the dollars to encourage trade balance.

Bring it here. You dont tell us to research Ile Ife history, do you? You tell it to us as if you are an expert on it.

It's Benin's turn. Bring your history here, tell it, and stop hiding behind macof. No Yoruba person deflects the history of Ife to a non Yoruba to tell. Bini must tell their own history and not deflect to Yoruba's account.

The truth of the matter, if you review threads here in Nairaland is that never has the story of Bini been told without using the greatness of Yoruba civilization as its anchor to shore credits and regal power. Never!

That nonsense is stopping now!

Since you believe you gave Yoruba its civilization and State, tell us your own beginning as a civilized and state power. Go to your beginning.

Where did Igodomigodo come from, who were the indigenes of the land prior, how was the land conquered, how did Ogiso dynasty take root, whats the chain of rulership, whats the structure of state, who were the heroes, the legends, the conquerors, the priests, .....showcase your greatness now or shut up forever and accept what Ooni said, Bini (not Edo) is a Yoruba dynasty.

Yorubas own the title Oba, no other society use Oba but Yorubas. Anywhere you hear Oba, its a Yoruba kingdom and state. Bini never used or use Oba.....you have Omo n'Oba.

You can twist Omo n'Oba into any fanciful meaning you want....but everyone know what Omo means, what Oba means....and they are not stewpid not to know what the combination of Omo and Oba stand for.

I don't think I have ever heard of Omo n'oba Eweka before but Oba Eweka!

FlirtyKaren:
My name is Adetoke Oluwo. I feel it is necessary I share my story so as to shed light to the way fraudsters dupe unsuspecting Nigerians and also to expose the shady AIRTEL STAFF who aided them.

My purse with other documents and ID cards were stolen last year April and as usual, I got an affidavit for it.
This year January, I got a call from Airtel Ibadan concerning a sim swap I wanted to do in Ibadan (I work and live in Lagos). I immediately informed them that it's fraud when
they told me the person brought one of the id cards that was stolen.
I immediately went to AIRTEL IKEJA CITY MALL to report and told them to flag and fortify security on my sim as my Airtel line is connected to all my Bank accounts. I even asked how it was possible for anybody to walk in and almost swapped my sim without any form of security . The staff said they will do something about it.
On Thursday night, 4th of February, I noticed my network was down and I waited till Friday to go report and they told me to wait for hours. THEY DID NOT TELL ME MY SIM HAD BEEN SUCCESSFULLY SWAPPED BY FRAUDSTERS, The Staff tried to hide it and told me to fill a form of sim replacement. I did not know at that point that my money was being moved as I sat there!!!
I left the Office and discovered on my other phone that 400 THOUSAND NAIRA HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED FROM MY GTB ACCOUNT THROUGH MOBILE MONEY WITH THAT NUMBER ALL THE WHILE MY SIM WAS DOWN FROM THURSDAY NIGHT TO FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
My email address must have been seen in one of the documents stolen, and the number is where Yahoo would send my recovery password to. All it took them was to SWAP MY SIM and click on forget password to access my email that had my Bank details saved.
It was when I went back to AIRTEL IKEJA CITY MALL to shout that the Staff told me my Sim had been Swapped. Before they lied that it was damaged and told me to fill a form for REPLACEMENT! !!

I requested for the Staff who swapped my sim for this FRAUDSTERS and they refused to say anything. They even harassed me and sent me out of their store for causing nuisance.

This money is meant to be part of the Course I saved a Year for to go study in London, I was maltreated and duped and an AIRTEL STAFF AIDED THE FRAUDSTERS. EVEN AFTER I COMPLAINED SINCE JANUARY FOR MY SIM TO BE FORTIFIED!!

BECAUSE HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE WHO ISN'T ME TO SUCCESSFULLY SWAP MY LINE WHEN THEY HAD MY PICTURE RIGHT INFRONT OF THEM!!!

PLEASE SHARE SO I CAN GET MY MONEY BACK, SO JUSTICE CAN BE DONE, SO OTHER NIGERIANS TOO CAN LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND PROTECT THEMSELVES. PLEASE SHARE.

http://www.lailasblog.com/2016/02/scam-alert-lady-cries-out-after.html
These Telecom operators staff have some fraudulent staff working for them. I remember how I needed a desk phone for home use and MTN staff started transferring me from one staff to another when I called their customer care line. One eventually told me it was possible but he had to come to check my home if there was network coverage and that it will cost me more 250k! I eventually got everything done with less than 8k!
