Should you guys have supported Buhari, 50% of those corrupt politicians would have taken an emergency vacation, call in sick, hibernate, gone underground, sent to jail, change trade, returned their loot, etc - by just beholding the arrival of Buhari or being baptised in his stand on corruption.

Atleast Minimum wage would have be fully inplemented, refineries revertalised, capital projects executed, regional economic fund implemented. But you guys supported the Billionaire who had No Shoes.

My country-people, all man should enjoy the Fresh Air grin grin grin

2. Some of you are here seeking linency on his behave, ask BEAF what he thinks of others (especially those he disagree with)? Or just ask him of Atiku, IBB, Tinubu, Fashola, ACN, Buhari, and others that are not current joint adventurers with the Zoologist from Bayelsa.

Out of millions of unemployed youths in this country, the project is only interested in assisting 1,200 individuals, WHY?

Provide a one time Equity grant for 1,200 selected aspiring entrepreneurs to start or expand their business concepts and mitigate start up risks;

How many of those individuals are going to come from the presidency, ministers, governors, legislators, and other influential Nigerians?

Politics › Single Term: North Moves Against Jonathan by egift(op): 4:31pm On Oct 16, 2011
The North is strategising ahead of the constitutional amendment to pave the way for the seven-year single tenure for the president and governors proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that part of the country is not shortchanged, Sunday Vanguard has learnt.

One of the plans already being perfected by members of the House of Representatives, specifically the Northern Caucus, is the composition of a 19-member committee of experts to critically look into any bill brought before the House for consideration.

Another strategy is the North’s proposed PEACE AND UNITY CONFERENCE where leaders from the region would meet in a no-holds-barred conference. This would come up later in the year.

Already, leaders from the region are mounting a mobilization campaign with a view to ensuring that participation at the conference would enjoy the benefit of eminent personalities.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that during one of the mobilization pursuit of leaders from the region, a meeting was held with the Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives.

They were led by Ahmed Mohammed GUSAU, Chairman, Peace & Unity Conference Planning.
It was at the meeting that a member of the House of Representatives disclosed that “the Northern Caucus in the House has put in place a team of nineteen (19) experts, saddled with the responsibility of critically looking into any Bill that is before the House with a view to ensuring that its negative effect on the North is addressed before its eventual passage.

“He thereafter cited the instance of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), which according to him, in its original form, was arranged and prepared to scheme out the North in the revenue formula. While calling on the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, to continue to speak out for the North, the member stated that there are many things that they see but which they, as members of the legislature cannot on their own speak on, but that such issues will be forwarded to the ACF for the Forum’s appropriate response.

“He advised that strategic planning on 2015 Presidency must start in earnest. While expressing the appreciation of the A CF to the Northern Caucus members of the House, he canvassed for the cooperation of the Forum”.

The Northern leaders are of then view that when the proposal for the seven-year single term amendment is brought to the National Assembly, “it would fail just like the Third term Agenda of former President Olusegun Obasanjo”. It would be recalled that a wave of criticism trailed the suggestion of a possible amendment proposal for a single tenure of six years which President Goodluck Jonathan clarified in a media chat that he was considering seven years.

From what Sunday Vanguard discovered, the North is hurting because of the “seeming breach of trust demonstrated by Obasanjo who was brought to power in the belief that the North would produce a successor; instead, Obasanjo foisted Umaru Musa YarÁdua on the nation”.

In addition, the leaders lamented that most vacancies in key sectors of government are being filled “by President Jonathan with people from the South South. The leaders also identified Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, state governors in the North of compounding the already miserable situation the region has found itself with their “greed”.

The leaders concluded that “it was on this basis that they felt the compelling need for a Peace and Unity Conference aimed at re-assessing themselves and to also tell each other the home truth”.

Okogie warns on bill to legalise prostitution, subsidy removal

Anthony Cardinal Okogie, Archbishop of Lagos, has decried the bill in the National Assembly to legalise prostitution, saying there are more serious issues confronting the nation which deserve adequate attention than making prostitution legal.

Speaking at a press briefing in Holy Family Catholic Church, Festac Town, after a Holy Mass to celebrate the silver jubilee of the return of the remains of Blessed Father Michael Iwene Tansi to Nigeria, Okogie wondered where the country is heading to if prostitution is legalised.

“If prostitution is legalised, then where are we heading to? There are more important issues needed to be tackled than thinking of legalising prostitution.”

Drawing a correlation between prostitution and abortion, Okogie condemned also efforts to legalise abortion.

According to him, if abortion had been legalised, some people won’t be alive today.

“Abortion is against the law of God which says you must not kill. Only God can give life. Even, how many animals destroy their young ones in the foetus? They made sure the ones born are safe and alive. If you continue to kill, it will decrease the population of our country.

Now we are proud that Nigeria has a population of N150 million. If abortion is legalised, our population will drop,” the Cardinal argued.

“Nobody has the right to take life, only God. Even women are fighting against abortion. The Bible and Koran are against it.”

He condemned the attempt by the Federal Government to remove fuel subsidy, describing the proposed removal as “pouring kerosene on fire,” considering the economic hardship and suffering Nigerian people are currently going through.

Brisingr:
on similar threads on d subsidy issue people say dat a few people benefit from d subsidy of fuel i would just lyk to know how dey do ?
Yes. Few politicians make alot of benefits from the current subsidy:
- Those sharing money
- Those with refineries outside the country.

But, it have also ensured that the price of fuel is currently on its current position. Remember the Government is not planning to remove subsidy to reduce price. But to save raise more money.

The problem with Jonathan's plan is that it will increase the price of fuel and everything else. Making life more difficult for Nigerians.

Politics › President Will Never Remove Subsidy - Egift by egift(op): 2:32pm On Oct 16, 2011
No matter how you spine it, as long as Nigeria's setup is today, the is no way the removal of subsidy will be translate to punishment and suffering for the masses.

In Nigeria, when you officially add a kobo on petroleum product, everyone else increases their goods (even when they are not directly affected). Whenever there is scarcity, price of goods, commodities and services also increase.

Primarily, President Jonathan is spineless, can't guarantee that the saved funds will not be stolen and is not very stable under pressure - I therefore categorically state that come January 2012 - President Jonathan will not continue with the subsidy removal or will make serious alternative provisions that will useless the aim of the removal if he meet face-to-face with the consequence of the problems the removal will cost Nigerians.

Politics › Presidency Probes Efcc Over Arrest Of Ex Govs by egift(op): 10:06am On Oct 15, 2011
The personality clash between the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Bello Adoke and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri is heading for the worse as both play their respective roles in the prosecution of the government’s anti corruption campaign.

While the AGF believes in the rule of law in the prosecution of an offender, EFCC allegedly pushes for the aggressive hunt and mob trial approach which was the hallmark of the Nuhu Ribadu years. And that is why the Presidency is studying the processes that led to the arrest of four former governors last week while some other former chief executives of some states were left as untouchables.

A presidency source said yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan has had words with both the AGF and Waziri on the development and was shown startling evidence which suggests that the EFCC has for sometime been ignoring the Ministry of Justice in its prosecutorial processes.

According to the source, the AGF continues to explain to the President on the importance of rule of law, especially when he was called to explain how the planned arrest of the former governors leaked.

“Indeed, the plan was to arrest many of them in one fell swoop, but as soon as the plan leaked, the plan was aborted. And it was only at that time that the Commission sought for permission to prosecute some of them including the former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili.

The letter from the EFCC seeking to prosecute Odili was dated October 6, 2011, the same day the commission’s operatives took in the former Governors of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; Oyo, Otunba Christopher Alao- Akala and Nassarawa’s Aliyu Akwe Doma.

“Those are some of the evidences which were tendered before the President during the briefing” said the source.

Another point of disagreement between the Minister Adoke and the Chairman of the EFCC is the use of private lawyers for prosecution of cases. While the Minister believes that such option can be used, he also thinks it should only apply where state prosecutors (many of who idle away at the ministry) show lack of experience. Officials of the ministry cite the brave and swift handling of petitions by state prosecutors during the hearings of the Oputa panels.

The Presidency according to the source may adopt a process of relationship between the two offices which will of necessity involve them.

Under the new EFCC law, the commission is expected to seek the fiat of the AGF to prosecute individuals caught under the Act. This was an improvement on the first Act setting up the commission which gave them wide powers to pick up people and prosecute them.

‘’Instead of seeking the conclusion of such cases, it is busy looking for opportunity to embarrass the government by going for arrests,’’ the source said.
