Do Catholics worship the saints? To worship someone is to acknowledge that the one who is worshiped is divine, is God. Sometimes we can confuse cultural gestures of reverence for gestures of worship. In doing so, we often judge not as God does, by what is in the heart, but rather by appearances (see Jn 8:15, Is 11:3). Catholics hold saints in esteem because they are such wonderful images or mirrors of Christ. Paul several times exhorts his readers to be imitators of him: "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ" (1 Cor 11:1, also Phil 3:17, 1 Cor 4:16). Mary is the first saint, and holds high honor today, as she did in the early Church. Over the course of history, devotion to Mary has taken many forms, and even has been confused with worship. Church teaching has consistently placed Mary in the company of the saints, however. Devotion to the saints comes back to the theology of image: Christ is God's image, the saints are Christ's image. We honor them because we desire to imitate them. We pray to them the same as we call upon earthly friends to do a favor for us. This too, is scriptural. In Acts we read of Peter and John going up to the Temple for prayer and encountering a beggar. Peter says to him, "I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk" (Acts 3:6). Peter makes it clear that he has the power of Christ in his possession. To be sure, it is Jesus who heals, but Peter holds the right to extend that power. The same can be said of Paul. In Acts 19:11-12 we read, "So extraordinary were the mighty deeds God accomplished at the hands of Paul that when face cloths or aprons that touched his skin were applied to the sick, their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them." These texts are the basis of the Catholic practice of asking saints to help us, of honoring (not worshiping) the bodies and relics of saints. |

Open Letter To The President: Goodluck Ebele Azikwe Jonathan Title: Where God Weeps: A Place Called Nigeria. By: Ehis Abuya I don't mind wasting the last drop of blood in my small body or exhaust the vital capacity of my lungs till I run out of breath, If that's what it would cost me to write you so long a letter just one more time with steady hands and an open mind. "Just this one piece" before I die on behalf of all the unemployed graduates and youths in Nigeria under the aegis of National Association of Unemployed Graduates (NAUG)! It might never have occurred to you, your Excellency, that you are the most powerful African as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria - a man overseeing 170 Million old men and women, vibrant young black children with about 250 ethnic groups, diverse tongues, highly productive and resourceful set of individuals. We quite understand your zeal to invest in the next generation of our country’s youths by the various agenda and programs of your administration such as the YouWin projects, SMEDAN, SURE-P amongst other initiatives aimed at tackling the far-reaching malady of UNEMPLOYMENT in our country but sir, all these has done absolutely nothing in reducing unemployment in Nigeria. Instead it has been a means of exploiting unemployed graduates and hopeless job seekers. I am very sure you are aware that Mr Abba Moro and the Nigerian Immigration Service scammed us N1000 each and nothing has been done about that incident since. Mr President, only the families of those that died, as a result of the stampede, were compensated with jobs. Sir never has it been known in any part of the world that death could be a prerequisite for employment while the multitudes were left wandering the streets asunder. Sir, my heart bleeds that the unemployed graduates of Nigerian institutions of higher learning still roam the streets hoping that one day the promises you made to us while campaigning some years back would be made manifest in their lives! Sir, you have been campaigning about attracting foreign investors into Nigeria as a means of job creation - that sounds like a fabulous idea to any average Nigerian but I completely disagree with due respect. Yes. Not so long ago, sir, you said in one of your speeches that “Our economy has since been rebased and it is now the largest in Africa; consequently we are now the 26th largest economy in the world and the largest trading partner of the U.S. in Africa". I was about jubilating when I heard over the radio that most of our foreign investors just pulled $584 million out of the Nigerian Stock market as announced by the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) in October. The NSE recently experienced a sharp decline in market capitalization due to foreign investors' exit from the market in anticipation of the negative impact of the decline in crude oil price on our Naira's exchange rate. Sir, its obvious by now that foreigners are only here to milk our juicy resources and abscond when things go wrong. How many foreigners would stay when things start crumbling? Since you are a very busy man I would like to update you on the operations of some foreign companies in Nigeria. These foreign investors come into Nigeria, register their mutifarious businesses and use Nigerians as cheap labour. Most times, graduates end up not been employed and the lucky ones are usually under-employed irrespective of their requisite qualifications. Graduates serve these outsiders as errand boys thereby defeating the purpose of the FG's initiative. They bring in their less qualified manpower under the guise of being expatriates to boss their better qualified Nigerian professionals, and in the process thereby remunerating them better than their Nigerian counterparts. Nigerian graduates are subjected to all sorts of inhumane treatment by these foreign sharks on their own soil! Mr President its the norm everyday by these Koreans, Indians and other Asian foreign investors as well as our South-African brethren! So why not invest in us the gifted youth instead? Human capital is the greatest gift God has blessed us with; as such I would really urge your Excellency to utilise these potentials . The white guys perfectly understand this concept and therein lies the secret of their success. We hear of visa-lotteries here and there, which are absolutely nothing more than modern day slavery. Nigeria keeps losing all her best brains to other countries due to a dearth of decent welfare packages to put good food on the table. As at 2010, statistical excerpts obtained from the National Manpower Board and Federal Bureau of Statistics showed Nigeria has a youth population of about Eighty (80) million representing 60 percent of the total population of the country. Sixty four (64) million of them are unemployed while one million six hundred thousand (1.6 million) are under-employed! Other sources have it that 1.4 million graduates enter into the job market annually. Investing in us shouldn't be a Mission-Impossible sir! "Nigerian graduates are not unemployable" is the usual refrain these days yet it's possible to engage most if not all unemployed graduates, regardless of their qualifications, in commercial and mechanised agriculture provided the right enabling environment is guaranteed! Just like any good father will, you can also motivate those graduates with lower grades instead of castigating them thereby frustrating them into becoming hoodlums. Why will first class graduates be jobless for years or as a means of upgrading themselves, still have to cough out huge sums of money to get post-graduate degrees, even in the Federal Universities? A case of paying the devil for the harm he has caused you! I sincerely believe the challenges we have are in the areas of education and agriculture; only if these two are tackled will we be able to beat our chests and shout hooray. Let's go straight to agriculture because a child with nothing in the tommy cannot learn anything for sure, and if I may ask what has happened to our Agricultural sector that provided all the finance needed to host FESTAC '77 back when no other African countries had enough funds to spare, what happened to our Agriculture that built Obafemi Awolowo University, the University Teaching Hospital and Cocoa House all in Ibadan? Nigeria currently has large, untapped investment opportunities in agri-business, the lands are fallowing away for nothing, yet graduates and youth are still jobless and food availability is still a big issue. Its won't cost the Government much to organise the youths and provide them with all they need to produce food to feed the teeming populace. Let's take a look at a few foreign companies operating in Nigeria: 1) MTN & Airtel - week after week, MTN keeps swindling 50 Naira each from millions of MTN subscribers charging them for ringtones and other third-party services without their consent. Are these the kind of investors we actually deserve? 2) DSTV & GOTV - they render poor quality services and yet they charge arbitrarily by the minute. Nothing has been done about the bad signals relayed during rainy and windy seasons yet they charge exhorbitantly notwithstanding the poor services they render. 3) Nigerians are fully aware of the dealings of several multinational companies like Shell, BG, Agip, Saipem, Sapetro etc., all operating in the oil-rich Niger-Delta region. How sustainable is our land and how drinkable is our water after their exploration or is it exploitation? Now its common practice for foreign oil companies claiming to spend over 900 million naira building a unit of line block of six classrooms in host communities as their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)!!! These foreigners end up inflicting us with the viruses of fraud and corruption. They manipulate loopholes in the signed MOU agreements and collaborate with some corrupt Nigerian partners to take advantage of the masses. The word corruption itself is a foreign language to us - no wonder its has no direct meaning in most of our major ethnic languages. So long as we continue to neglect the youth and keep investing in foreigners, Nigeria would continue to be a land were God weeps endlessly! Jobless youth would continue to settle for crime because it pays. Insurgency would continue, foreigners would keep exploiting us and taking us as slaves, the youth we think we have would all migrate and help build foreign lands rather than help develop their fathers' land. Thanks sir. |
psucc:I no fear to name them o, in fact MTN na the theif of theives make we send these theives away from thius country jare, na watin Nigerians no fit try for them own land. MTN....must go...theives |
All the South African companies think the can just come to Nigeria and start misbehaving. I was still complaining about how poor DSTV serve us, network fluctuation during the rain and windy days and so many other frivolous ways of swindling innocent Nigerian. No sooner had I complained about this when i got a text on my phone saying that I have successfully subscribed for a Caller Tune, in fact that 50 Naira is what I have managed to save to call my crush that night. where are those working with NCC, are they sleeping or was it a planned collaboration to steal from innocent Nigerians. And to add salt to my wound Na old school shina peters them give me, na later I come they hear say na all Nigerian these people steal 50 naira from con dash this caller tune. Abeg tell me if this one no b “stealing by force” |

Xxpress: What happened to the groupThis is What's happening No gate fee No registration fee No form fee Absolutely nothing: just be present. We are just like you anyway and we might not be able to get you a job in the oil sector but then all we want is for you to stand on your own toes and be your own boss, employer of labour and entrepreneur per excellence....in fact this should be the dream of any sane man. Oyo state graduates and residents must try to take advantage of the SMDAN and Naijagraduates Funds and training for new and existing businesses. Its a lot more easier as graduates to tap into any opportunity available, during a phone conversation with the Director general of SMEDAN, the small and medium Enterprise Development of Nigeria he said,SMEDAN would help graduates to facilitate all resources required for the development of their businesses. He added that" Poverty, due to lack of access to income earning opportunities and lack of capacity to take advantage of the opportunities, is a social malaise that is threatening global prosperity in general and national economic growth and development in particular". The Naijagraduates/SMEDAN partnership would therefore be justified by the need to trigger the development of Nigeria's MSMEs in a structured and efficient manner. So it would only cost you your presence at : Expoyo, Sango, Ibadan (SMEDAN office) Description: Take a cab to Sango, alight at Expoyo Bus Stop or Alleluyah filling station after A3 Hotel. On the un tarred road, ask for the SMEDAN office (the building with the red brick wall). Time: 10 A.M prompt On Thursday, 25th september, 2014 it marks the beginning of the orientation and sensitization programme for all those that applied for the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN/NAUG) Training and Funding scheme. |

Jason713: My name is Sara Nicole CurphyYou can always get from BOA(bank of agriculture) or BOI(bank of industry) but u just have to follow the following steps Go to their office open an account, save 10% of what u want to borrow for 3months and get 2 garrantors(must be civil servants) Note your business or farm would be inspected. |
Yusphull: You've spoken well bro but our problem ( Nigeria Youth) are just two things Misplaced priority and I-Dont-Care attitude..Thanks for this long reply to my long post, Nigerian youths are indeed still sleeping cos they've not really appreciated the potentials they've bn Nigerians living in Nigeria but really don't blame them cos they have found themselves in an already poluted environment. Everyone knows agriculture is key but so many other stress keeps them far from it like asses to funds, soft loans, input and sorts But thiaris God anyway |
Friends and brothers,Young African comrades- How do I start? Maybe probably by sharing this Quotes I found, from God knows where? “Life: a cycle. A series of events, meetings, and departures. Friends discovered, others lost, Precious time, wastes away. Big droplet tears are shed for yesterday, but are dried in time for tomorrow, until all that remain are foggy, broken memories of a happy yesteryear.” Before I re-introduce myself to you,I don't Want you to see this as an advert, as a show,a mere article or a post in need of frivolous comments. This is an era I believe the social media can actually be used positively. Some girls come on the social media to expose their half nude pictures- Boys come to show themselves off behind another man's "2014 Maserati Quattroporte" -this is absolutely not about that. Some just post to receive comments and you trust know my fellow Nigerians, they Would always make you happy instead of telling you the truth. I always laugh like am insane seeing "Orang-utans" upload their pictures and you see comments like "nice pix" "Great" "Sexy" "You look good" ridiculous post like that still attract thousands of likes and hundreds of comments-indeed stupid ones..its really crazy!!! I have actually taken a While to read more about different people from their facebook timeline, nairaland account,tweets,hi5 and several other social networks etc. And I have concluded that there is a big difference between the Way nigerians use the social media and how others do. Take for example a canadian Wrote on his facebook profile "I Would like to start a pharmaceutical company-i just discovered a vaccine for a disease, let's Work together if you are interested. And right from the comments am sure they have started, something even people he never knew or expected gave their supports and contribution. Another american Wrote "I have been trying to record a demo tape for the promotion of my first album and here in connecticut my producers keep giving me some whack-hood-ass beat I can't flow to- can anyone be off help.....I need a good producer and a record label. Two days later, a facebook friend gave him someone's contact who is a record producer and a label owner.....and it would also amaze you to know that, the producer is a mutual friend of them both on Facebook, which made things a lot more easier. A fellow african wrote, Am in kumasi right now to launch some of my publications, please friends come along with me and make my day memorable- the next day the young man posted that he wouldn't have believed if he wasn't there that 60% of those in attendance where actually his facebook friends. If you make front page on Nairaland everyday, If you have 5000 friends on facebook,20,000 followers on twitter and you don't know how to get them to be of help that's your business and now to the business of the day. Let me re-introduce myself Am Ehis Abuya and all I know and think about now is Agriculture. I graduated from the Federal University of Agriculture(Abeokuta) and got a higher degree from the department of Agricultural Economic university of Ibadan,my area of specialisation is Agricultural policy and Administration- which has indeed opened my eye to the potentials we have as Nigerians if only we can tap from the wide range of blessings God has bestowed upon us. I feel very sad travelling from cities to cities and towns to villages seeing farm-able lands wasting away amidst this severe famine, unemployment and rural poverty confronting us. Oh, how I wish we never had presidents that would convert government projects into personal properties, how I wish the various monies recovered from loots from other countries can be invested into mechanisation of agriculture in Nigeria. No matter how hard you read per day or your qualification, no matter how well travelled you are or whatsoever even if it just for a minute one still have to sit down and put something into his or her belly, and that's the beauty of Agriculture. The first occupation I believe God created was Agriculture and have you ever bothered to ask why scientist and doctors haven't been able to replace a big full course dinner meal with a small pill to be taken like we take headache drugs. I struggled so hard thinking how and what could be done to tackle the problem we have in Nigeria and I realised that the solution begins and end with food. You might want to ask," how can you say our problem is food, No and No! let tackle corruption and the solution is solved" Don't be fooled my friend is everybody have something to eat and drink then the rest is nothing. A roman catholic priest once told, me if a man dying of hunger enters anyone's house or shop or probably a mall and picks up some food items and eat, he said its not a sin before man and God. it was my first time of hearing such so I argued with so much passion that he left me on the spot and we couldn't continue our conversation anymore but as I began to grow in age and wisdom I finally understood what he meant because if you give to someone or provide someone food on the daily, you have given that person a life and that's why the christians always pray to God saying "Give us this day our daily bread". The prayer simply means please God give us life because a man without food would eventually die. Rich men in the north gather hopeless people to themselves and provide them with food everyday and tell me why these people won't be loyal to the rich man even if he as anyone of them to do whatever he wishes. The reason we must develop our agricultural sector is not something new to every Nigerian. The constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria, under the Fundamental Objectives and directive Principles of State Policy says It is hereby, accordingly, declared that: (a) sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this Constitution derives all its powers and authority; (b) the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government: And going further you would clearly notice that even adequate feeding of every citizen is the duty of the government and it was stated thus: (d) that suitable and adequate shelter, suitable and adequate food, reasonable national minimum living wage, old age care and pensions, and unemployment, sick benefits and welfare of the disabled are provided for all citizens. Tennessee valley authority of the united states that provided jobs for about 20,000 youths at inception is a replica of our River basin development Authority- it provided electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with agricultural and economic development, but the funny part of this is that several other countries adopted the initiative and it worked, why can't things just work in Nigeria. And right now, the government is insensitivity to agriculture, well how about you? Oh, you actually tried and you lost real big, how? Did you consult professionals- did you venture into it to make fast money and quit? Did you test your water before stocking your fish in it,or were you an absentee farmer? Oh so you listened to a motivational speaker who told you that you can start small so you decided to plant cassava on just a plot of land, did you use 500 labourers on 500 hectares of land for 500 days that could have been done in 5 days using a mechanised cassava planter ....these are the problems with our agricultural sector, Agriculture can only survive when it is done in mechanised and commercial scale with proper insurance and funding. That the reason I continue to blame the government for everything wrong with our Agricultural sector, bulk of our farmers are old rural farmers with no form of formal education, they are poor and can only afford to plant to feed their house hold and a few more people. They are not educated and not willing to adopt new innovations and technology and young graduates would rather seek for a with collar job than take these risks or borrow from our so called bank of Agriculture where you would be asked to pay about ten percent interest rates, get civil servants as guarantors and pay a part of your money into the band and wait for 3 month before becoming eligible to borrow , please tell me how an unemployed graduate can afford this. Now I have two solutions to the problem of agriculture and unemployment in Nigeria, its either we all start looking for unavailable white collar jobs or hold our government responsible for what they ought to do. Farmers My proposal to you...if you are interested in large scale cassava farming you can send an mail to ehixking@gmail.com, I was trained by the International Institute of Tropical agriculture and I would give you the best and with 50 hectares of land you would earn at least fifteen million naira spending 4 million naira in one planting season without moving an inch. |

God wl not allow Ʊя̩̥̊ evil plans to manifest! Please share and tell your friends: its urgent and important for Us. All the meetings we ever tried fixing with any government ministry, agency or departments have seldom been know to have failed but on the contrary the meeting with the bureau of Investment and Public private Partnership of oyo state and the National Association of Unemployed graduates(NAUG), NASME and NASE was a very fruitful one I must say. The meeting started at about 2.47 pm and was chaired by the Mrs Folakemi Akinleye the Special Adviser to the government on investment and public Private partnership on behalf of the executive governor of Oyo state and also accompanied by Mr Fatoki and the DG. Mr Fijabi. I won't like to bore you with the long reports from other organisation which took a greater potion of the day but in the end the 10 minutes allotted us was enough for us to steal the show and the SA was really interested in our case. We gave an insight into our activities and state our demands as follows. 1) Hectares of land for Agricultural purposes and building of farm settlements 2) Provision of capacity building for business management, skills and training. 3) Funds, grants and industrial clusters. 4) Providing business incubation centres to bring in more people into production was suggested by the NASME chairperson chief mrs Adejumo , as a means of creating a crucial point where small and medium scale businesses can take off without the interference of some governments agencies like NAFDAC,SON etc coming after them with demands beyond their capabilities. She made reference to the Agege Business incubation centre and propose we visit the place to better understand its activities and operations. The SA Mrs Folakemi Akinleye promised the government of Oyo state would give her support to all 4000 unemployed graduates of NAUG in Oyo states and she even mentioned that there are some openings in both the public and private sector she would help fix us into.(At this points you can keep your CVs coming naugnaija@gmail.com) She mentioned that the old NTC building and the abandoned CBN quarters would be used as the incubation centres, she spoke passionately about our cassava project, since we told her we want to go into cassava production and make Oyo state the largest producer of Garri, starch, flour and all the products of cassava just to mention a few in west Africa and she advised us come up in a couple of weeks with our feasibility outline of our project taking into consideration the value chain of our final products. A whole lot of issues was deliberated upon which we really can't put into writing. But most IMPORTANT is the next meeting in Oyo state on the 26th. PLEASE NOTE THAT TO THESE EFFECTS THERE IS GOING TO BE A CRUCIAL MEETING on the 26th of July at immanuel college primary school, U.I, Ibadan. @ 10 AM prompts please come with your CVs and come along with your friends. For those outside ibadan if interested send " I am interested to 07030717445 with your 1)Name 2)Qualification 3)Phone number 4)Email address And be prepared for a general meeting of all NAUG members nation wide in lagos after the Oyo state |
