CareerNational Association Of Unemployed Graduates (NAUG)To hold 1st Meeting In Lagos by ehixking(op): 8:00am On Sep 01, 2013
It all started like a joke on nairaland when a post went viral about graduates coming together to form an association or movement to stop unemployment. Most people saw the idea as a very welcomed initiative that will go a long way in influencing governments policies to create a place for unemployed graduates in the National budget.

Graduates have been sidelined for years in Nigeria, jobs are not forthcoming and graduates find refuge in obtaining masters forms while some depend on their parents for daily bread and recharge card. Nigerian graduates play PS2 better than their counter parts in other countries yet some people speak about been entrepreneurs- but where can we find the enabling environment. Take for example a graduate of Agriculture that lived in Lagos all his life wants to start a poultry farm. Most definitely land would be in his feasibility study in which the land use act of 1978 is the first disadvantage, he needs funds-where would he get it, roads to transport from lagos to other point of sale are bad, electricity to power the farm ..nothing to write home about, funds in case of disease outbreak like gomboro or Newcastle disease " nba"

So how can he manage? Should a graduate start small buy rearing 5 chicken, 2goats, 1 sheep....in whose compound? Has he himself even eaten today(chance for Baba landlord to throw your things away)

In the light of these interested graduates has been mobilised from various parts of the Nation to hold the first general meeting in lagos

Venue.---Unilags sport centre
Time.--9 AM prompt
Date...saturday 7th of september

To discuss the way forward to scrap the menace of unemployment
This is an open invitation to the general public and anybody that would like to support morally or any other way you can

God bless us all for more info

kinnad: 1000 From each state,is that what the legal advisers said? Well on the issue of publicity,i have made some progress, and i know some who must be there. But some people refused to identify with such a name. I suggest you change that name now before it goes too far,and make this body a joke of the century.Trust me there are more important issues that will be dealt with on that day than change of name, and we don't have the whole day.
A thousand from each state is just a set target if we hit it fine and if we can't we move on...
Most definitely the name might be changed !!
Some people love it that way tho...we have to do things democratically not just a mans view would count

Any way thanks for keep the dream alive

In4matic: To achieve greatness is a function of conscious collective input.
No nation in the world have ever grown to super-power status except by collective state resolution for principled and progressive growth.

When we hear of figures and figures used up for bogus schemes and abandoned projects plus pointless state functions in the name of state banquets and a plethora of other Ceremonies, let us always remind ourselves the obvious implications of that. that for every million Naira Spent on wasted projects, ten Graduates have lost a hope for an average income. For Every Billion looted. 1000 Graduates would never see a meager income, lets not talk about the likely dependents and aged parents of such a graduate else the figure would triple. What of our children, borne and yet unborn? A question for those "lucky" to get "comfortable" jobs; What about the future of YOUR CHILDREN? i have asked of those around me and these are the answers i get on the average:
1. God Will do it again, He"ll show them favor as he showed their parents.
or
2. I will send them abroad to settle for a better life.

what does that imply? This situation will only get worse, everybody knows it.
there is a saying that if all were kings who would serve?
if we continue on this path, eventually we'll all be doing menial "entrepreneurial" tasks; making clothes and shoes from fabrics imported from china, repairing phones imported from china, fixing hair imported from Brazil, working as labourers in construction sites manned and run by foreigners, when we can make those fabrics, shoes, bags phones and equipment here.

on a side not, please can any Engineer in the house tell me if it really does beat the competency of a Nigerian Graduate to design an overhanging bridge, a road, a tunnel a simple locomotive train that justifies the importation of technicians even down to raw materials and equipment thereby taking what we ought to benefit and giving it to outsiders? it beats my imaginations to high heavens.
Where did all those bright kids go? who appeared on NTA jets-club in those days with designs upon designs of equipment prototypes? don't tell me, They are all begging-to-apply in banks and oyel companies cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

How will it get better? How did India do it? How did Singapore do it? how did China do it? can we even summon the chutzpah to attempt the Gandhi-kind of resolve to always wear Calico until India of then could make better fabrics? i wonder!
Great minds think alike
Even south Africa, has done it, how did they do it
Let's not just give these pot bellied men the chance to make us junkies and druggies
Let's ask them for what's ours
On AIT newspaper review of wednesday there was a report that Nigeria loses 365 billion to oil theft anually
So does it mean 1billon per day can't be saved to generate our textile industries
Nigeria produces nothing even my tooth pick was made in malaysia
Immagine nigeria importing bananas from Cameroon....whaoo
That sounds disgusting to me
Something must be done and the time is now

Still in anticipation of the first meeting
Everyone must be present
Some of us are just here to view and add funny post
All we need is your suport
Let's have your contact

Come and support us morally at the first meeting
Let this be our own part in building the nation

Thanks Ehis Abuya

Please note that the fact that the first meeting kicks off in Lagos doesn't mean that once you have a means of attending even though u are in the core north...everyone is invited

Subsequent meetings would be scheduled, time of meeting and venue
There would be a level at the geopolitical zones, state level and local government

Please
We need at least a total of 1000 members from each states before going ahead to register

For the Lagos flag off meeting please each nairalander whose been active should make sure the come with two new members, we need willing people to talk to people...book for annauncement in church, mosques
Go to Nysc CDs meetings, anywhere u can get people to talk to

May God guide our steps in the right direction

My heart goes to Adekunle from Abeokuta who has single handedly offered to build us a website where we can register as members and gets infos and updates concerning our association!!!

Please.....let's let's our hearts burn with a passion for freedom against inhumane acts and unemployment is one.
Let's support what's right and shun what's evil
We are all trapped between doing things right and doing the right thing
Now the right things to do may seems wrong, but let's our hearts be the judge, let's our children wake up one day and say "all hail our Fathers...they have done it all"

Let the struggle for a better life continue
Let rekindle the fire in us
Sleeping giants, sons of heros
If its still all a dream
let us all wake up
The time is now

Yusphull: Mr. Ehix, thank you so much and I say a big weldone to you on this struggle so far to making Nigeria a better place to live because you are already showing some leadership qualities by giving us some Gingeristic words that should be a force to wake the sleeping Lion within us. May Almighty God in his infinite mercies protect us and make the date a realistic one.. (Amen)

I would like to commend my fellow brothers and sisters (Comrades) too who has contributed tremendously to this cause by chipping-in there ideas, suggestions, opinions and advices because "a tree cannot make a bush" to achieving this aim of ours (Operation No To Unemployment), may Almighty God bless us abundantly too and own a better job for all of us..

As regards the motto we are still deliberating on it on BBM Chat Group but the only one we are considering for now is "JOB CREATION, THE BEDROCK FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY" and before 10:00am today I'm sure we will reach a conclusion and I will update you as well..

Our Slogan should be (Operation No To Unemployment)...

I stand to be corrected Oooo... My suggestions I think...

#peace

Its nt out of place if we key into ASUU's struggles to prevent Nigerian graduates from being d subject of universal mockery. Rememba we r products of Nigerian universities.
When there is fire on the roof, you have to remove yours first before that of your neighbour

Great and beautiful people,
The chosen ones, one but a people with the heart of kings........
Good day to you all,
this is just a reminder to us all to rekindle the fire in us,
to be a source of inspiration to the world
Never to back down on our dreams
The world is ours and all in it
Let's make our weakness our- strength
Our disabilities our-courage
Our courage to carry on
Our strength is in our diversity, our strength is in our belief- our belief in the truth
We know where our shoes hurts
Our land is green yet millions of us starve
Our leaders don't know what it means to wake up in the morning with no money in the pocket
No food on the shelves and hole in our trousers
We can tell them what it means to see our younger brothers who ought to be in school in the morning selling items in the market
Can some one tell them what it means to live in houses without the roof
If u can't I can tell them what it means to go to school without the shoes on and Go to bed hungry with the hope that hunger would have gone by dawn
Tell them agonies of having a masters degree as a disadvantage( without jobs or over qualified)

Youths have been used to achieve political ambitions
Now we say No and want to work and earn a living ourselves
We say no to foreign companies making money off us without giving us jobs
No to tribalism, tribalism favouritism in offering jobs
We say no to gender or religious discrimination
We say no to round table and family affairs kind of government

We love our country, we love ourselves
God has blessed us too much for most of us to be wallowing in the state of abject poverty

Our dream is to get nigeria to a state of ELDORADO
Let's do things right
Let's join the fight

""Its important to note that our lawyers have advised a change of Name should be done as soon as possible""

CareerRe: National Association Of Unemployed Graduates(NAUG) by ehixking(op):
Incrizz: I feel a little angry and disappointed.

So you mean all you guys are coming from all over Nigeria to lagos to deliberate on issues that are already being deliberated here and can be concluded herehuh

I thought the reason for the mass movement to lagos from every nook and cranny in Nigeria was to rally/move to, at least, 3 different media houses and register the presence of this association in Nigeria, whatever the name would be(hopefully not NAUG)

And when I mean rally, I mean RALLY! Like the Legal practitioners(Lawyers) did to register their distaste for subsidy removal??

And what's the rush about the time for holding the meeting??

Have you confirmed Unilag sports complex?

And if you have, have you obtained permission for a peaceful rally from the relevant authorities, so that it's evident that we are knowledgeable and law abiding citizens?

Who said this meeting cannot hold on OCTOBER 1ST??

I'm perplexed.

Eku ise ooo..
Hmm
Well, we are all human beings and being angry and disappointed is just a feeling(it happens, its allowed no problems)!!!
Coming all over the world to Lagos is worth it first because that's the right thing to do- we have to let Nigerians and the whole world see these movement has nothing but one voice. Our aim is the oneness across the federation not that River state graduates are saying this and Oyo state graduate are saying that.(No one will listen to you)
Let me bring it to your notice that before any association or movement come out openly to protest they must be duly registered and have a focus with aims and objectives under the CAC(cooperate affairs commission) and doing this takes a whole lot of process. And our lawyers has advised us to start meetings(freedom of Association in law) to gain momentum and once we have enough members then we can go ahead and register...
The registration process takes time and various requirements e.g 3 referees
These are some of the issue the meeting is all about. Now we need referees, would u sit in the comfort of your room punching ur computers and wish the 3 referees come down from heaven(of course not).
1)How do we set up aims and objectives and who agrees on what?
2)Some people want a change of name and some don't,have we agreed on one?
3)We want to send a memorandum to the national assembly for the payment of all graduates after NYSC are we gonna do that on nairaland too?
4) The issue of job security? Most banks employ workers on contract basis creating confusion on who is employed or not ,no job security...should we start discussing it here
Lebanese, indians, koreans etc Companies taking advantage of unemployment in Nigeria and offering a bsc holder 30k per month, with driving skills as advantage(the work of a driver), age restriction barriers,5 years working experience and so many frivolous criteria for employment!!!!

If we go your way I believe everything will start and end on nairaland
Action speaks louder than voice let's channel all these energies to acting than just talking
Let's meet, let's know the turn out and let's see how dedicated we are( I have called some lagos contact and most of them have been giving excuse of not coming)...then we know what we are fighting for...
Once we are fully registered the rest can continue on the site!but for now let's show action!!
And a big thanks to ADEKUNLE from ABEOKUTA who has volunteered to build us a website free of charge..may God bless you
Whoever wants to speak with our lawyers can call, text or email me for numbers to call on and would be replied through mail.
Thanks

How about those coming from others states that have nowhere to stay

Since friday muslims would go for jumat service
On saturday is environmental
Sundays christian would go to church
And mondays are always busy and fixed

May be we should take our time and make it next week saturday so we would be able to mobilize ourselves better.....

dougivilla: Its typical of Nigerians to blow hot when its talk time and freeze when its time for action. I spoke with the op and was shocked to learn that those who intially volunteered to take up responsibilities like website designs and stuffs have turned round to be asking for money. Question is who pays the op for the initiative and his time and energy put into this cause?

How different is this from government agencies that sell employment forms to the unemployed or collect thousands of naira to assist the unsuspecting unemployed get jobs. We must be the agent of the change we so desire.

I think what this association needs is volunteers who can contribute selflessly for the betterment of itself; afterall up until now, its still an association on unemployed Nigerians. Why are youths always so much about the 'get it now now' mentality?

Imagine that @ehixking (probably an unemployed youth too) has to dole out cash to pay for meeting venue, pay to build a website, pay for every logistic, including transporting fellow unemployed and providing free 'item 7' and accomodation to attendees, all because 'he has a dream'!!! Please lets look at the bigger picture!

Back to business; i suggest meeting should be on a saturday morning at a hall in any tetiary institution in Lagos. However, if the turn out is'nt too much, then an eatery would not be a bad idea!!! Baring any unforseen situation, I will be there! @ehixking Maybe you should start taking the 'row call' to determine the suitable location and arrangements!
Thanks a lot
I've been tryna call, some response has been fine but most have been discouraging but we shall not give up on our dreams, I shall call all those that dropped their nos from lagos tomorow morning so as to know how prepared we are to face these challenges

For now the venue is the unilag sport centre on saturday by 9AM prompt
If I can make it on time from ibadan by Gods grace I don't think any one in lagos should be late
The issue of african time can be stopped Now and it begins with us-its indeed a bad habits. Let's us all try to be puntual so at least get to know oneabother before the meeting starts

May God assist us
Good idea for the day of the commencement of the meeting in lagos...
Everyone would likely be free on saturdays
Please "should the meeting schedulled for wednesday be shitfed to saturday"

And I haven't gotten any news about the venue from Lagosians...please we need to do something fast
And as per the website please those that showed interest should call me immediately
