Masionreay:My brother you are not far from the truth, so many misconception from our southern brothers... I am a southerner but I live in Zaria, Kaduna State... I know what I am saying... ABU and BUK are extremely difficult for southerners, except you are a very high-flyer. They admit just one per state, that is usually the highest person. MBBS admission is competitive everywhere, the competition reduces in your catchment area, followed by state universities. If to say money dey private University na him person for go. After all MBBS na MBBS irrespective of the school as long as the school is accredited by NUC and MDCN. 4 Likes |

SlaveofAllaah:We from the south, we have a wrong perception of Northern tertiary institution... It is very difficult for a southerner to be offered admission in a northern University especially for professional courses except by merit. By merit I mean being the highest from his state. Due to catchment area policy of admission in Nigeria, no southern state is in the northern state catchment area and vice versa. So a person with 262 from Jigawa may be admitted to ABU yet a person with 305 from OYO may be denied admission. Northern Universities are not easy to get as a southerner except you are a very high flyer. As per 2nd choice school, hardly a federal University accept 2nd choice, Uniport, EBSU, ESUT and some other state schools allow second choice to sit for their post UTME but must change to first choice to be offered admission. EBSU don't do post UTME, and state schools are expensive. My advise, focus on your first choice. State universities are less competitive and easier to get compared to federal universities but are more expensive. If you have the finance go for state University like EBSU, no post UTME, and with a little above 250 you can get MBBS or choose a federal institution in your catchment area with a little above 290 average of both UTME and Post UTME you are in. If you chose to go outside your catchment area... To be on a safer side, gun for an average of 320. 3 Likes |

oyetunjibaba:ABU don't use cut-off mark instead they use quota system... The 19 Northern states are in ABU catchment area, so every other state gets 1 slot for competitive course like MBBS, BDS, Pharmacy, Law etc.... So as a south-westerner to get MBBS in ABU, be the highest from your state and consider yourself in. As per PUTME it is CBT... For MBBS, English 25 questions, Physics, Chemistry and Biology 15 questions each making a total of 70 questions... The question are more like Jamb too... They mark over 400 and make use of average score for admission that is Jamb score + PUTME Score = Average score. The person with the highest average score from non-catchment area gets admitted. In 2018, I had 288 in Jamb, 304 in PUTME, average 296, I was not admitted, I was not even offered fishery with due respect to those offering fishery. Obviously someone from my state had a higher average than me. I am from Edo state. So if you want MBBS in ABU get the highest average from your state and consider yourself in. 2 Likes |

Education / The Nigeria Of Our Dream by ejehijustice(m): 1:10am On Oct 01, 2018 |
THE NIGERIA OF OUR DREAM To say that after 58 years of independence, Nigeria is not worth celebrating owing to the myriad of problems that has bedeviled her is to say one is critical but to understand the potentials Nigeria had at independence would be to stand up to our toes. What are we even celebrating? That Africa's biggest oil producer contributes the 3rd largest poor people in the world (world bank, 2014); that corruption has been our lifestyle; that the acclaimed giant of Africa can't boast of steady power supply, good road network, basic and social amenities; that our electoral process is flawed with malpractices; that ballot papers get to every nook and cranny of the country but not the dividends of democracy; that 61% of the people live in absolute poverty while a microscopic few live in affluence (BBC, 2010), that 80% of the youth are unemployed or underemployed (CBN, 2014); that killing, crime, rape, kidnapping, bombing are now the order of the day, that our leaders do things with impunity, the problems are too much, I can't even mention them all. Is this the Nigeria Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Herbert Macauly fought for? I guess not. The Nigeria of our dream should be a country that is corruption free, where peace, justice, equity and fairness reign, where all sectors are functional, where our electoral process is free and fair, where power failure is history, where our politics is issue based, purpose driven and not partisan, where ethnic sentiment and religious bigotry is a thing of the past, where our educational system is about human capacity development and not just about getting a certificate, where foreigners come to live in and not the other way round, where everyone has a sense of responsibility, where we could sit and tell our children and grandchildren, "Nigeria is working because I played my part, you have to play yours." The bane of the Nigeria State is that there is no dream, no documented Nigeria dream. America is a cynosure today because there is a documented American dream inculcated into every American child from birth. What is the Nigerian dream? I bet even Mr. President can't tell because there is none, even if it exist (which I doubt) it is not documented. It is true that our leaders have messed up and don't have a dream, but someone's irresponsibility is not an excuse for yours. If we must have a better Nigeria, we have to start dreaming and believing again and work for this. We can no longer leave it at the hands of unscrupulous politicians; we must stop blaming the government, we must take responsibility, fold our sleeves and get to work. This presents us an opportunity to rediscover ourselves and identity. It is our duty and only our responsibility to take up this challenge but are we willing? "Don't think of what your country can do for you, think of what you can do for your country," these are the words of US most loved president, John F Kennedy. I think this should be our mentality. Building the Nigeria of our dream is a collective responsibility. Play your role and forget about weather the next person is playing theirs or not. In the words of Mahatma Ghandi, "be the change the world (NIGERIA) need." HAPPY INDEPENDENCE!!! Hahnemann:University nursing is a five year course and u would be awarded a Bachelor in Nursing Science (BNSc) degree, while school of nursing is a 3 year course and u get a Registered Nurse RN/RNM kind of like a diploma. in the nursing hierarchy BNSc is higher than RN. As for specialty after BNSc, u can go for your masters in any specialty while with RN u go for a 12-18 month post basic in any of the nursing specialty. hope this helps |
