Business / Tiktok Files Legal Action To Block Trump’s Sept. 27 App Download Ban by ejovwovincent(f): 12:59am On Sep 24, 2020
As a deal deciding the fate of TikTok hangs in the balance, the Chinese-owned video app is seeking a preliminary injunction to halt the Trump administration’s order that would ban app stores from carrying TikTok in the U.S. as of Sept. 27.

TikTok alleges that Trump cited “national security” concerns as a pretext for trying to shut down the app in the absence of a deal to transfer ownership of TikTok to American buyers. The company, per its motion, claims the president was motivated “by political considerations relating to the upcoming general election.”

“There is simply no genuine emergency here that would justify the government’s precipitous actions,” TikTok said in the motion, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. “And there is no plausible reason to insist the prohibitions be enforced immediately.”
In response, the Justice Department told the court an emergency ruling in the case was “unnecessary and unwarranted.” The DOJ wants seven days to respond to TikTok’s lawsuit — which would push it well past Sunday night. “The Secretary of Commerce prohibited several transactions with respect to TikTok, but only one set of those prohibitions is scheduled to go into effect at 11:59 PM ET on Sunday, September 27, 2020,” the Justice Department notice said. “That set of prohibitions will effectively prevent new U.S. users from downloading TikTok, and will prevent existing U.S. users from receiving application updates, but will otherwise largely preserve the status quo with respect to Plaintiffs and their existing U.S. users.”

The court set a hearing for 10 a.m. ET Thursday to discuss the issues of timing in the case.

TikTok is currently owned by Chinese internet giant ByteDance. Late last week ByteDance reached a preliminary deal with Oracle and Walmart, which got a provisional OK by President Trump. But conflicting information from ByteDance and Oracle about who will control the new TikTok Global may derail the pact.

In the latest legal filing, TikTok asked for an expedited hearing for a preliminary injunction ahead of Sunday’s looming ban. The company claimed it has “made extraordinary efforts to try to satisfy the government’s ever-shifting demands and purported national security concerns.”

The Commerce Department originally set Sept. 20 for the TikTok download ban, before delaying the deadline to Sept. 27 given Trump’s preliminary approval. A total ban on Tencent’s WeChat app also was set to go into effect last Sunday, but a judge issued a temporary stay of that order on First Amendment grounds.

TikTok had previously sued Trump and the Commerce Department on Aug. 24, alleging the executive order forcing its sale violated TikTok’s constitutional right to due process.

The ByteDance deal with Oracle and Walmart still needs official U.S. and China government approval — and that might not happen. China Daily, the official English-language newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, said in an editorial Wednesday, “China has no reason to give the green light to such a deal, which is dirty and unfair and based on bullying and extortion.”

Separately, TiKTok announced Wednesday that it banning ads for fasting apps and weight loss supplements, as well as increasing restrictions on ads that promote a “harmful and negative body image.” The company said it was partnering with the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) to provide resources to users directly from the app and will launch a dedicated page for NEDA’s #EndWeightHateCampaign to support Weight Stigma Awareness Week (Sept. 28-Oct. 2).

Travel / African Ambassadors Complain To China Over 'discrimination' In Guangzhou by ejovwovincent(f): 7:11am On Apr 13, 2020
African ambassadors in China have written to the country's foreign minister over what they call discrimination against Africans as the country seeks to prevent a resurgence of the coronavirus.

Several African countries have separately also demanded that China address their concerns that Africans, in particular in the southern city of Guangzhou, are being mistreated and harassed.

Africans in Guangzhou have reported being ejected from their apartments by their landlords, being tested for coronavirus several times without being given results and being shunned and discriminated against in public.

Having brought under control the original outbreak centred on the city of Wuhan, China is now concerned about imported cases and is stepping up scrutiny of foreigners coming into the country and tightening border controls. It has denied any discrimination.

In recent days Africans in Guangzhou have reported being ejected from their apartments by their landlords, being tested for coronavirus several times without being given results and being shunned and discriminated against in public. Such complaints have been made in local media, and on social media.

The ambassadors' note said such "stigmatisation and discrimination" created the false impression that the virus was being spread by Africans.

"The Group of African Ambassadors in Beijing immediately demands the cessation of forceful testing, quarantine and other inhuman treatments meted out to Africans," it said.

The note was sent to State Councilor Wang Yi, the Chinese government's top diplomat, copying the chair of the African Union, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and all African foreign ministers.

"The Guangdong authorities attach great importance to some African countries’ concerns and are working promptly to improve their working method," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a statement published Sunday, referring to the province in which Guangzhou is located.

"African friends can count on getting fair, just, cordial and friendly reception in China," he said, adding the foreign ministry will stay in close communication with Guangdong authorities and address the "African side’s reasonable concerns and legitimate appeals".

Zhao's statement did not reference the ambassadors' note to Wang and did not mention the allegations of discrimination against Africans in the city.

Foreign affairs official Liu Baochun told a news conference separately on Sunday that Guangzhou is enforcing anti-virus measures on anyone who enters the city from across the national border, regardless of nationality, race or gender.

The Chinese embassy in Zimbabwe on Saturday dismissed the accusation that Africans were being deliberately targeted.

"It is harmful to sensationalize isolated incidents," it said in a tweeted statement. "China treats all individuals in the country, Chinese and foreign alike, as equals."

The ambassadors' note highlighted a number of reported incidents, including that Africans were being ejected from hotels in the middle of the night, the seizure of passports, and threats of visa revocation, arrest or deportation.

On Saturday, Ghana's foreign minister of affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said she had summoned the Chinese ambassador to express her disappointment and demand action.

Kenya's foreign ministry has also "officially expressed concern", adding the government is working with Chinese authorities to address the matter.

On Friday, Nigerian legislator Akinola Alabi tweeted a video of a meeting between the leader of Nigeria's lower house of parliament, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Chinese Ambassador Zhou Pingjian. In it, Gbajabiamila demanded an explanation from the diplomat after showing Zhou a video of a Nigerian complaining about mistreatment in China.

The ambassador said in response to the questions from the house leader that he took the complaints "very seriously" and promised to convey them to the authorities back home.

Crime / El Chapo Sentenced To Life In Prison by ejovwovincent(f): 7:41pm On Jul 17, 2019
El Chapo was sentenced to life +30 years today.
There are few men in El Chapo's position that have captivated an audience quite as he has. For years, the Mexican drug lord, whose real name is Joaquin Guzman, has been one of the most notoriously well-known criminals in the entire world. Whether he's escaping from prison, continuing his dirty work from behind bars or generally just being a badass, Guzman has captured the imagination of Hollywood with his wild story. Countless scripts have been written about El Chapo and now, his tale has officially come full circle because today, he was sentenced in front of a judge and as expected, he'll be spending the rest of his life in prison.

El Chapo's trial has been highly-publicized with many media outlets camping outside the court to get exclusive scoops on his legal developments. According to TMZ, Guzman has officially been sentenced to spend his life behind bars, learning his fate today. On top of his life sentence, Chapo also got an additional thirty years added to his sentence after being convicted on all ten counts he was facing.

In case that wasn't enough, the drug kingpin will need to give up over $12 billion of dirty money he collected over the years. He appeared to be surprised by the verdict but gave his wife a thumbs up before being escorted out of court.

Do you think he'll escape again?

Health / Death Toll From Brazil Dam Disaster Hits 166, 155 Still Missing by ejovwovincent(f): 9:09am On Feb 14, 2019
RIO DE JANEIRO - The death toll from Brazil's tragic dam disaster in southeast Minas Gerais state has climbed to 166, the state civil defense agency said on Wednesday.

The agency's Lt. Col. Flavio Godinho told the press that another 155 people are still missing since the tailings dam that contained tons of toxic waste from an iron-ore mine collapsed on Jan 25, burying parts of the town of Brumadinho under mountains of mud.

Efforts to locate the bodies of the missing continue though rescuers are finding increasingly fewer bodies as the remaining victims lie buried under as much as 15 meters of mud, he said.

Authorities have identified 160 of those killed, most of whom are employees of mining giant and dam owner Vale and residents of surrounding communities.

The rescue operation continues with 327 firefighters and 43 pieces of heavy machinery, including trucks and excavators, eight aircraft and 12 search and rescue dogs.

The sea of mud is believed to have washed away Vale administrative offices and a cafeteria where hundreds of employees were having lunch when the dam broke.

Five people who had been arrested for their role in validating the safety of the dam just months before it collapsed were released last week pending further investigation.

The Vale company began to build a bridge leading to the collapsed dam, to replace an old one which, along with other buildings in the small rural town of Brumadinho, was destroyed by a rush of toxic mud unleashed after the dam collapsed, said Flavio Godinho, spokesman for the state civil defense department.

The incident marks the second tailings dam collapse in three years at a Vale-owned mining operation in Brazil, flooding communities and fields with toxic sludge.

In November 2015, a tailings dam partly-owned by Vale ruptured in Mariana, also in Minas Gerais, destroying an entire community and killing 19 people. It was considered Brazil's worst environmental disaster.

Career / 4 Secrets To Raising Wealthy Kids, According To The Billionaire Rockefeller Fam by ejovwovincent(f): 8:12pm On Mar 28, 2018
In many cultures, there is an age-old saying that wealth is made and lost in three generations. In the U.S. we say, "shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations," and in Japan it's "rice paddies to rice paddies in three generations."

Wealth, in other words, rarely lasts much beyond the grandkids. Taxes, spending, the dilution of wealth through children and their children's children, and the inevitable spoiling effect of so much money, eventually take a toll on family fortunes.

Yet the Rockefeller family has defied all of that. Now entering its seventh generation with as many as 170 heirs, the Rockefeller family has maintained substantial wealth — they had an $11 billion fortune in 2016, according to Forbes. That's more than 100 years after John D. Rockefeller became America's first billionaire after founding Standard Oil Company in the late 19th century.

Even more unlikely, however, is that the family has remained largely united, without the public scandals, feuds, lawsuits and tragedies that typical plague other gilded dynasties. There are now over 250 members of the family who are direct descendants of John D. Rockefeller and Laura Spelman Rockefeller.

Rockefeller family portrait, summer of 1920, Seal Harbor, Maine/ From left: Laurance, Babs, John D III, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller holding David Senior, Winthrop, John D Rockefeller Junior, and Nelson.

Sure, the Rockefellers started out very rich, which helps over time. But so did the Vanderbilts and Carnegies and Astors, but you don't see them still giving away billions like the Rockefeller family. In May, Christie's will auction off the collection of the late David and Peggy Rockefeller, including art and valuables expected to go for over $500 million, and possibly as much as $1 billion, with all the proceeds going to charity. During his lifetime, David Rockefeller gave away more than $1 billion.

So what's the Rockefeller secret?

In a rare interview, David Rockefeller Jr., chairman of Rockefeller & Co., said that the family has developed a system of values, traditions and institutions that have helped the family stay together and preserve their wealth. They are useful to any family trying to raise children with good money values — even if you're not wealthy.

He pointed to four main components.

The first is regular family meetings
"We meet as a family twice a year, often more than 100 of us in a same room for a Christmas lunch for example," he said. "We have something called the family forum. When you are 21, you get invited to those meetings." At the gatherings, the family talks about its direction, projects, new members and any other family news related to careers or important milestones. It's important that everyone feel a part of the family, even if they married into it.

Rockefeller says it's also important to maintain family history.

The Rockefellers do this in part via their family "homesteads," where they can gather and connect with their past.

"It's places that were familiar and that were passed down over generations," he said. "I can go back to the place where my great grandfather lived over 100 years ago and see how he lived and see how his son and their grandchildren lived."

No longer having a family business is important as well, says Rockefeller. Many of the disputes within rich families start over business — who should run it, how it should be run, and who should benefit.

The Rockefellers haven't had a family business to fight over since 1911, when Standard Oil was broken up by the government into publicly traded companies due to then-new antitrust laws. With that single stroke, the Rockefeller fortune was transformed from a single giant company to multiple publicly listed companies. Combined with a well-written series of trusts, the stocks and financial holdings were more easily passed down to future generations and less subject to financial battles.

"The wealth in our family, of course, came out of the oil business, of Standard Oil," Rockefeller said. "But the business hasn't kept us together and there are many families who it's pulled apart, frankly. By chance, I think, we were lucky that we didn't have a business that was pulling us apart. We had a business that supplied — through generation-skipping trust — wealth that went down through the generations and dispersed through more and more people, but still was retained. But we didn't have a core business."

The strongest glue keeping the Rockefeller family together is family values, specifically philanthropy. Their various family foundations, including the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the David Rockefeller Fund have a combined endowment of over $5 billion.

Family members are encouraged to be involved in the foundations and help choose the causes they support. By making giving the center of the family's identity, the Rockefellers have maintained the core values of John Rockefeller Jr., whose mantra is inscribed in stone at Rockefeller Center: "For every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty."

David Rockefeller Jr. remembers giving to charity with his very first allowance at the age of 10. He would get his allowance on Sunday and give a portion of that to church or another cause — just as John D. Rockefeller tithed his salary from his first paycheck.

"If the values weren't lived, the words wouldn't have had an impact," David Rockefeller Jr. said. "So I think the family has tried its best to live those values, to whom much is given, much is expected."

Celebrities / Ja Rule Reignites Beef With 50 Cent by ejovwovincent(f): 6:51pm On Jan 19, 2018
Twenty years ago, Ja Rule and 50 Cent’s beef was compared to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and no one blinked. Today (January 19), these one-time rap titans seem to have reignited that beef with some brazen social media posts.

After sunrise, Ja Rule took to Twitter for some apparent breaking news: “Fun hip hop FACT: @50cent is PUSSY…” He didn’t specify what inspired this firestorm, though he did insinuate that 50 had been talking about him recently. “Let’s be clear I mind my business… but for some reason @50cent keeps my name in his mouth,” he said, before his language got more explicit and homophobic, thanks to hashtags like #ticklebooty.

Music/Radio / How To Start An Artist Management Company by ejovwovincent(f): 2:48pm On Dec 09, 2017
Are You Sure You Want To Start An Artist Management Company?

Being an artist manager is arguably one of the most exciting careers someone can have. Every day is different, it’s challenging, it’s rewarding, you get to witness the creative process, you get to help make someone’s dreams come true (or die trying), you get to travel a lot, you get to spend your time in recording studios, performance venues, attend festivals, and heck you get to drink on the job. But, it’s not all mashed potatoes and gravy all the time so before we get into HOW to start an artist management company, I’m here to give you a little more insight on some challenges to overcome BEFORE starting an artist management company as well.
Warning, reality check

4 things to come to terms with before starting an artist management company

1. You HAVE to be patient
Every person I know with a successful company didn’t just start it up with tons of clients making money right off the hop. Unlike other industries or types of businesses, with artist management you can’t just register a business name, get a website, and start advertising your services. You don’t have an artist management company without artists. Plus, it takes a LONG … time … to build.
Most artist managers keep their full or part-time jobs for a long time until their artist roster is making enough money that they can quit. Depending on your artists success, this could happen quickly, or it may never happen. It all depends on what’s going on with your artist and if they’re making enough money. As their manager this lies heavily on you. If you have or find the right connections, and if your artist is talented enough (along with many other factors), you could be a full time artist manager before you know it.
I know a guy who quit his full-time salaried day job to start an artist management company with a couple of indie bands. A year later, he made absolutely no money, and lost 50% of his artist roster. Another year after that, he lost 100% of his roster and left the industry. Which brings me to my next point….

2. Have a back-up basket and carton of eggs
Sure, put all your eggs in one basket. But what if that basket breaks? You best be makin’ sure you’ve got another basket of eggs waiting for you. Relationships break. Artist managers loose artists regularly. Managers quit. Artists fire their managers. If you’re only managing one artist, make sure you have other sources of income coming in. Or make sure you have an ironclad agreement in place that will ensure you still get paid even if the relationship breaks. If you’re quitting your day-job to manage 3 acts you just signed at once, make sure you know exactly how much money they make, how much money you’ll make, and exactly when they’re going to be paying you. Or, have a massive reserve of money waiting in case they don’t.
Otherwise, you ain’t eatin’ no eggs.

3. Finding clients (artists) is like finding a spouse.
Being an artist manager is like being in a marriage. It’s one of the closest relationships you’ll have next to your family members, and because of that, these relationships also take a long time to build. Sure there are some cases where an artist signs with a manager when they barely know each other (I’ve done it!). And sure there are some cases where people get married after 3 months of knowing each other. The reality is, though, that it’s a relationship built on mutual understanding, trust and loyalty, and generally that takes some time to build. So be patient in this arena too.

4. A company runs on money
We work in an industry that prides itself on working for the love of it, and not for money; especially artists. But the reality is you don’t have a COMPANY without money. This is business. The artist is a business. If you’re looking to start your own business, it’s always recommended that you draft an artist management company business plan If you’re not that well versed in the industry, it’s a good idea to at least TRY to work through a business plan so that you get a better idea of where your money is going to be coming from.

Starting Your Own Artist Management Company vs. Getting A Job At An Artist Management Company.
When you start your own artist management company, you can choose which artists you work with (if they’re willing to work with you in the first place), and keep the full management commission. When you work under someone else’s management company, there are a few ways to go about it.
1. You could be hired on as an associate manager (or day-to-day manager) to an existing company roster on a salary (or a commission if you’re lucky)
2. Or, you could be asked to join the management team and bring on your own roster
In these two cases, your commission rate would be less than if you were the sole manager of an artist. However, if you’re working for a company, they likely already have a good track record and therefore the commission revenue could be higher. In all cases, it really depends on what works for you and what opportunities come to your door (or what you bang down doors for).

Questions to ask yourself:
* Would you rather have support from an existing company?
* Would you rather bust your butt starting from scratch?
* Would you rather be an entrepreneur?
* Do you have the business acumen and work ethic to be an entrepreneur?
* Would you rather choose the artists you work with?
* Do you have the credibility or ability to sign an artist yourself?
* Would you rather be in control?
* Would you rather share responsibilities with a partner?
* Should you try to work for another company to get experience first?
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, still want to learn how to start an artist management company?

Key Ingredients for Success in Starting Your Own Artist Management Company.

1. People skills
The music business is a relationship business. You have to have your head on your shoulders and be able to network, make friends, and business colleagues; it is absolutely critical to success. Furthermore, it is the maintaining of these relationships that counts. The music business is a very small world, and you don’t want to go around burning bridges. It WILL come back to bite you. This goes for artists and my business-minded people. It’s imperative to be an honest (sometimes brutally honest), yet trusted person. Understanding people (especially your artist!!) is absolutely key.
Susan de Cartier of Starfish Entertainment (Blue Rodeo) says, This is a relationship business and networking, negotiating, etc. are critical to success.  Plus, it’s not just creating relationships, it is maintaining them.

2. Business and financial management skills
Running a management company is running a business, and an artist manager must understand that you need to have the same management skills that any other business owner has, which is heavily reliant on financial and operational know-how. A business isn’t a business without revenue, so as a manager it’s your job to get out there and bring in revenue for your artists, and in turn, yourself. Make sure they’re performing live, touring, selling records, try to get them radio airplay if their songs fit, try to get a publishing deal (for the songwriters), get their songs in TV and film, set up YouTube for ads, and do further research on various revenue streams.
With all that being said, I’m a true believer that most things in life can be learned. So if you’re feeling weak in the area of business and financial skills, get-to-learnin’!

3. Work ethic and drive.
You must have a very strong work ethic and a high level of responsibility. You’re managing someone else’s entire career (your artists) and must take that responsibility seriously. This is a fun business but it is a business, so you need to have the utmost work ethic and drive to keep on going when times get tough.

4. Dedication to your artists.
Managers dedicate their lives to their artists. Yes, not just their careers, their lives. Your main reason for working with artists in the first place must be for the love of the artist and their artistry. You have to put your artists ahead of yourself. You have to put their needs ahead of your needs. You must understand that you are dealing with other people’s lives and other people’s money.

5. Creative problem solving and fast decision making.
A manager should be able to calmly jump through hoops on a daily basis. There are going to be problems that arise every day. They could be good problems or bad problems, but you’re going to need to figure out how to solve them fast, without dwelling. The manager is the centre of the wheel, if you’re not solving problems fast, the wheel won’t roll forward.

6. Patience.
I talk about being patient quite a bit on this blog, but I’ll say it over and over again. Be. Patient.
It takes years for artists to perfect their craft. And it’ll take years for you to perfect your business. You could be coming into your artist’s life at a time when their craft isn’t quite ready to become a business yet, or they may be in between album cycles and are creating right now. So you have to ask yourself if you’re ready to join them in the developing phase, or creation phase of their career. In both of these phases, you’ll be on the sidelines waiting with no income coming in unless they are constantly performing live. Or, let’s say you start managing them at a time where the artist is ready to release an album and you’re sure it’s a hit song or a few hit songs on it and that there’s no creative development needed. Even if that album or one of the singles does become a hit, you still won’t see any revenue for at least 10-12 months later because royalties take time to come in. If you don’t have a hit you might not see much revenue at all (from album sales). Again, this is a long-term business. Don’t expect to pop up overnight (both virally and financially).

7. Knowledge.
It doesn’t have to be knowledge you’ve acquired from formal education such as college or university, but you need to educate yourself. This can be done through experience, from reading this website through and through, from attending conferences, from a mentor, from reading books, and many other ways. Artist Managers oversee all areas of the business so the sooner you get knowledgeable in those areas the sooner you can succeed. The Music Business For Artist Managers and Self-Managed Artists: All You Need To Know To Get Started, Get Noticed, and Get Signed explains all the main types of people you’ll be working with as a manager, what they do, how to wear their hats until they are ready to work with you and your artist, how to contact them, how to get noticed by them, and how to get ‘signed’ by them.

“They” include over 30 music industry experts in the areas of:
* Agents
* Tour Managers
* Talent Buyers
* Record Label A&R
* Publicists

Steps To Starting An Artist Management Company

1. Build Your Artist Roster.
Depending on where you’re at in your journey to starting your own artist management company, you may or may not have an artist roster (clients) yet. Just like any company, you don’t have an artist management company without any clients so if you don’t manage any artists yet get out there and start looking because it could take a while. You could see 100 bands and only fall in love with one of them, or you could go see a band tomorrow and fall in love with them. The important piece to note here is that you need to ‘love’ them, and they need to love and trust you to do business on their behalf. As mentioned above, you dedicate your life to this person/these people (aside from your family), and the best motivating factor for dedication is love. You need to love their music, their songs, their vibes, and them as individuals.
The good news is, there are PLENTY of ways to find talent to manage. The hard part is finding the one, or the next one.

2. Sign A Contract.
Yes, a lot of business in the music industry is done over a handshake, but it’s just better to cover yourself by signing an agreement. You can make the agreement as simple and as easy as you’d like. Just get something, anything, in writing, that you’re earning a certain commission as so-and-so’s sole worldwide manager, and save it in a safe place.

3. Don’t Quit Your Day Job Just Yet.
DO NOT quit your day job to become an independent manager…. yet. If you’re reading this article I’m assuming it’s because you’re independent. Keep your day-job, or contracts, or part-time job, or whatever else you’re doing to earn a living, until your artists are making enough money to replace it. Is your current roster, or prospective roster making any money yet?
Before you start managing someone you need to find out how much money they are making, so that you can decide if your 15-20% cut of that is worth it for you. If they aren’t earning enough money yet, then you need to be willing to dedicate time and energy as a longer term investment in order to gain profit later. Find ways to earn money for your artist, which will in turn earn money for you. The average person makes, what, $40,000 per year? If you want to quit your day job and earn that same amount, and you’re on a 20% commission rate, your artist needs to be making over $200,000 per year. Or, you manage 2 artists making $100,000 each, and so on. Still, let’s say you’re managing one artist, they make $400,000 in one year, and then they decide to go off the radar and not perform or release anything for another 2 years or more. This is where you need to have other sources of income. If it’s not a job, than it’s multiple artists that are earning well.

4. Draft an Artist Management Company Business Plan.

5. Make a Name for Yourself.
Literally and figuratively. Now that you have a roster and a plan, come up with an artist management company name and register it with the government. This should also allow you to open a bank account under your business name. It is important to keep business and personal separate. Different managers have distinctive artist management methods. Think about what you stand for as a manager. Don’t be afraid to be yourself, while you may also want to think of ways to brand yourself to stand out. If artists do it, why can’t you? Get business cards, a website, a new email, a Facebook page, Instagram account, Twitter account, and any other means to promote yourself as a professional manager, which is also another means to promote your artists. And, NETWORK. Get out there and meet people as much as you possibly can. Find out what they do and show an interest.

6. Get Organized.
You have to be the one that’s the most organized since you’re the one “organizing” the artists career. Have all the right documentation and keep track of all your business functions appropriately. If you’re not the most organized person yourself, then hire an intern or a paid staff person who is strong on the organizational side as soon as possible.

7. Work With an Entertainment Accountant.
Now that you have all the documents you need to be organized, you’ll want to discuss accounting procedures with your accountant so that you can organize your financial documents effectively. I also recommend finding an accountant that works specifically in the entertainment business, as there is a whole different set of tax write-offs available to you (depending on what country you’re in).

8. Hire an Entertainment Lawyer.
You’ll want to find and hire an entertainment attorney to aid you with all contracts you will have to deal with when doing business on behalf of your artist, with record labels, booking agencies, publishers, etc. Entertainment law is extremely specialized, so be absolutely sure to hire an entertainment lawyer, not a lawyer from any other specialization.
To summarize, if you’re considering starting an artist management company, you’ll want to get the following items in place: artists to manage, a lawyer, an accountant, internal organization tools, a business plan, management contracts; while also ensuring that you’re patient, dedicated, brand yourself and be yourself, constantly develop your knowledge (business and music business) and network all the time while developing

Business / If You Had A Chance To Be A CEO For The Day, Which Company Would You Choose by ejovwovincent(f): 3:30am On Oct 04, 2017
I'm going to answer this question as if the CEO is basically the all-powerful dictator of a company. I realize that's a little unrealistic, but so is the notion of being CEO for a day, and what's more I enjoy fantasizing about being the all-powerful dictator of a company, namely Apple.

Why Apple? So I could undo all the terrible, and largely unnoticed, damage that Tim Cook and his deputies have done to the company over the past six years. I would give Jony Ive a choice between returning to his position as head of industrial design or leaving the company. He, along with a number of others (e.g., Craig Federighi), have utterly destroyed Apple’s software, specifically iOS, and even more specifically the music app, which was once a joy to use, but is now wretchedly, appallingly, breathtakingly ugly and unintuitive.

I would track down Scott Forstall, pull him out of whatever gutter he happened to be lying in, and tell him that he's once again the head of mobile software at Apple. Then I would explain to him my concept for the music app. It would have two sides between which the user switches by tapping a button in the top-left corner of the screen; on one side, My Music, and on the other, Apple Music. When the user is in My Music, all the tabs on the bottom of the screen pertain to My Music (i.e., Songs, Artists, Albums, etc.), and when he is in Apple Music, all the tabs pertain to Apple Music (i.e., For You, Browse, Radio, etc.). The only thing that doesn't change or disappear when the user switches between sides is the Now Playing bar, which is located right above the aforementioned tabs, and the search icon, which is located in the top-right corner. These changes, along with others I have in mind, would go a very long way toward making the music app as elegant and easy to use as it was before Ive and company put their pretentious, skeuomorphism-hating meathooks on it.

Apple Watch would be discontinued. Why? Because companies fail when they lose sight of their mission, and Apple's mission, historically, has been to make insanely great premium technology products for the masses. What does "for the masses" mean? Two things: reasonably affordable (i.e., expensive, but not out of most people's financial reach), and immensely useful to the average person. The Apple Watch is an insanely mediocre premium technology product for rich people who love to have the latest gadgets. Does it have some very useful features? Sure. But those features are not enough to make it immensely useful to the average person, especially given the fact that, as ease and delightfulness of use are concerned, it falls so terribly short of the standard set by the truly revolutionary Apple products to which Cook, in his introduction of the Apple Watch, idiotically compared it.

There are other things I would do, but this answer is getting long. Adios.

Business / Top 7 Strongest Currencies In Africa…. You Wont Believe The No1, It Will Shock Y by ejovwovincent(f): 1:11am On Sep 02, 2017
The strength or value of a currency is an index of its purchasing power, reflecting the current economic situation of a country in comparison with other countries in the world. Using the dollar as a benchmark, here Face2Face Africa ranks the seven strongest currencies in Africa.
The list includes some interesting inclusions as well as some surprising omissions. For example, the naira, the official currency of Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy and most populous country, did not make the list, while the dinar, the official currency of Libya, made the list despite the fact that the North African country has been embroiled in intense civil conflict in the last half decade.

7. SOUTH AFRICAN RAND ZAR (1$=14)
Alongside Nigeria, South Africa boasts one of the continent’s strongest economies; however, a sluggish global economy and a fall in commodity prices has hit the rand in recent times with its value declining against the dollar. It currently exchanges for 14 rand to every 1USD

6. BOTSWANA PULA BWP (1$=10.cool
The pula is Botswana’s official currency, with $1 worth about 10.8 Botswanan pula. The Botswanan economy is often regarded as an African success story; the country enjoys one of the highest Human Development Indexes (HDI) on the continent. Government revenue is derived from mining, cattle ranching, and the service sector.

5. MOROCCAN DIRHAM MAD (1$=9.9)
Morocco boasts one of the strongest currencies in Africa, with $1 currently exchanging for about 9.9 Moroccan dirham. The economy is built around tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture.

4. ZAMBIAN KWACHA ZMW (1$=9.84)
The kwacha is the official currency of Zambia. The exchange rate is currently 1USD for about 9.84 Zambian kwacha, making it one of the most valuable currencies in southern Africa. Zambia maybe considered another of the surprise inclusions on this list since its economy is largely agrarian with some extra revenue coming in from the tourism sector.

3. SUDANESE POUNDS SDG (1$=6.4)
Despite decades of civil war, Sudan has managed to keep the value of its official currency respectable through a series of re-evaluations, with the most recent coming in 2011 and $1 currently exchanging for 6.4 Sudanese pounds. Crude oil exports, fishing, and agriculture remain the major sources of the government’s revenue.

2. GHANAIAN CEDIS GHS (1$=4)
Ghana is the only West African country on this list. One USD currently exchanges for 4 Ghanaian cedis, making it the second most valuable currency on our list. Ghana boasts one of the most stable democracies in Africa, and the economy is well managed. In addition, despite the slump in commodity prices, the recent discovery of oil has served to boost the economy.

1. LIBYAN DINAR LYD (1$= 1.4116)
Based on its exchange rate to the dollar and its purchasing power, the Libyan dinar is Africa’s strongest currency. One dollar currently exchanges for about 1.4116 Libyan dinars. This is an impressive achievement considering that the North African country has been cut up in a civil conflict since former strongman Muammar Gaddafi was ousted in the 2011 Arab spring uprising. Some analyst believe the currency has been buoyed by the country’s extensive oil reserves and its role as a gateway for African migrants looking to enter Europe.
Health / 14 Signs You Might Be Pregnant, You Should Never Ignore #6. by ejovwovincent(f): 8:25am On Aug 30, 2017
During all the changes going on internally, the body does give off hints of a pregnancy through changes that are sometimes mistaken for a flu or just plain tired. Here are 14 signs that will let you know you are pregnant before you miss your period.

#1. A woman’s hormone levels increase while pregnant. Particularly estrogen and progesterone levels increase.

The increase of these two hormones will decrease or stop fully menstrual bleedings. The common spotting before your period will disappear for most women during pregnancy.

#2. Vomiting while pregnant does not only happen in the mornings.

This may be the reason most people confuse morning sickness with food poisoning or a stomach bug. Pregnancy causes the hormone levels to slow down digestion.

#3. Your vagina feels swollen and sensitive.

You produce more cervical mucus. The milky white discharge will also be thicker than usual. This is due to an increase in progesterone levels.

#4. Most women feel their breasts are tender while menstruating, this is nothing compared to what it feels like while pregnant.

Hormones level not only make breasts bigger but they are also sensitive to touch. Nipples also darken in preparation for nursing. Be prepared for the breasts to continue growing throughout the pregnancy.

#5. You feel like you are getting menstrual cramps but it’s not your period dates.

When the fertilized egg attaches to the uterus lining, implantation bleeding occurs. This is light spotting accompanied with cramps. This should only lasts a couple of days.

#6. You will be going to the bathroom a lot!

Whether it’s at night, during the day, the bathroom will be the most visited room in the house. The body is producing more blood, making the kidneys work diligently to filter the blood. Consequently, the bladder is filling up constantly.

#7. You can fall asleep just about anywhere and at anytime.

Your body is working overtime making your womb the perfect place for your baby to grow. It is only normal to want to get in more naps than usual.

#8. You are constipated and your diet has not changed much.

The increase in progesterone levels slow down food digestion. This makes going to the bathroom really uncomfortable and sometimes painful for some women. Adding more fiber to your diet can help.

#9. You are hungry in the middle of the night.

You certainly develop a ravenous appetite for certain types of food like desserts or sour things.

#10. That delicious pasta that made your mouth water last week all the sudden makes you ill.

Although doctors are not 100% sure what causes an aversion to certain smells, it is believed it’s due to high progesterone levels. Most women feel better by the second trimester. For others, the aversion to certain smells lasts throughout the pregnancy.

#11. A commercial, note or even a conversation will have you weeping like a child, don’t worry it’s totally normal.

Mood swings are completely common when pregnant. The increase in hormone levels and changes is reason enough for your family and friends to give you a break.

#12. Feeling dizzy but you are standing on a flat floor.

In the first trimester, dizziness is caused by low blood pressure. Progesterone causes the blood vessels to widen and relax, therefore the flow of blood is slower.

#13. A thin dark line appears from the belly down to the pubic area.

Linea nigra has always been there but it darkens with high hormone levels during pregnancy. Don’t shave it, it usually goes away after birth. Old wives’ tale says that this line is the route babies use to find their mom’s breast to nurse.

#14. The hormone progesterone relaxes the muscles during pregnancy.

This included the valve in the stomach that keeps acid away from the esophagus. As the baby grows, it is pushing itself onto the stomach, making the acid to travel to the esophagus. Contrary to popular belief it has nothing to do with a having a baby with a full set of hair.

Travel / Be Careful, These Are Common Reasons Why Visa Applications Get Rejected by ejovwovincent(f): 10:10am On Jun 29, 2017
Despite trying desperately over time to get their visas, some people have found it extremely difficult to succeed. These are some reasons why visa applications get rejected.

What makes an Embassy or Consulate reject providing you with a Schengen Visa?

This is the question many people ask anytime they are about to apply for such a visa. The fact is that whenever a Schengen visa or any visa gets rejected, there is something UNSATISFACTORY as regards of that visa application.

Many visa applicants get confused and unable to exactly understand the reason for their visa refusal. That is why the article will focus on presenting the commonly known reasons for such refusal.

A visa application might be considered unsuccessful if the consular officer fails to get from the candidate all the needed information about him/her. Lacking to possess such information, the consular officer will be incapable of deciding if the candidate qualifies to be given a visa.

On the other hand, sometimes the consular might get information from the applicant that is unacceptable or beyond the fixed procedures. Sometimes the candidate is prone of illegitimate and/or dishonest activities. In all of the aforementioned cases, the officer is led to DENY offering a visa to the applicant.

LEARN which are the Most Common Reasons For Failed Schengen Visa Applications, in order to avoid being amongst those who perform them:

1. Past or Current Criminal Actions

The past and current circumstances and actions of the applicant matter a lot in the decision of the consular officer in issuing a Schengen visa. In such cases, the refusal might occur because the applicant is considered a threat to the public policy, internal security or public wealth of Schengen Area (i.e. terrorism, drug abuse, child abuse, addiction, other serious crimes).

2. False Travel Document

There is a common destiny for all the individuals (applicants) who attempt to present false travel documents to the embassy or consulate, trying to misrepresent their identity, using fake identity – and that is an absolute visa denial and other accompanying unfavourable consequences.

3. Insufficient Explanation For The Purpose And Circumstances Of The Planned Stay

Another motive to lead the consular office to deny your Schengen Visa is failing to have the needed justification for your purpose and conditions of the planned travel and stay. Such are the cases of:

Failing to present an employment and professional qualification that matches with the presented financial situation

Incapacity to provide documents that support the purpose of travel and stay in the Schengen Area

Missing to apply for a visa period in conformity with the presented travel itinerary and holiday right or revenue situation

The inability to offer unchanging declarations about the purpose of travel and stay

4. Damaged Passport

A reason for a visa refusal could be presenting a passport that is not kept in a good condition. Such case can be when passport pages are detaching or missing when the cover of the passport is damaged and so on.

5. Passport Invalidity

The alternative motive to lead the consular officer denying your visa application is presenting a passport that is not acceptable for the Embassy or Consulate. Such cases are classified the following:

Presenting a passport that does not have a valid period less than three (3) remaining months after the return from the visit in the Schengen Area

Presenting a passport that does not possess two different blank visa pages

Presenting a Travel Document Booklet instead of a valid passport

Presenting a valid passport that is older than ten (10) years

6. Lack To Proof The Travel Itinerary

An additional reason for Schengen Visa application fail, is lacking to present the proper plan of your travel within the Schengen Area. Such cases include:
Applying at the wrong Embassy of the Schengen Area (not being able to determine the main destination of your visit to the Schengen Area) for each destination and each night to spend in the Schengen Area

Not being able to provide booked flight ticket for each applicant (when a group of travellers)

Not being able to provide travel tickets for each destination to be toured in the Schengen Area.

7. Invalid Letter of Reference

Further evidenced reason for a failed Schengen Visa application is providing a formal letter of reference that is not authenticated by the author. Such cases involve:

Lacking to offer a formal letter that has an original letterhead with the address and contact details of the company or the author issuing it

Lacking to present a formal letter issued not later than three (3) last months from the application date

Missing to have the stamp and signature of the author on the formal letter

Other

8. Insufficient Means Of Subsistence

One of the reasons the embassy or consulate of the Schengen country might refuse to give you a visa is lacking or insufficient proof of means of existence for the duration of stay in Schengen Area, nor for the return to home country. Such cases might involve:

Failing to offer financial statements not older than one (1) month from the application date

Lacking to enjoy a current account statement (presenting credit card statements in its place)

Missing to possess enough funds in financial statements presented.

Presenting a traveller’s cheque that does not have the candidate’s name.

9. Unacceptable Birth Or Marriage Certificate

An additional cause for a failed Schengen Visa application is not being able to offer birth or marriage certificates that are accepted (not authenticated) by the embassy or consulate. Such cases include:

Failing to offer a certificate endorsed by official authorities, i.e. Ministry Interior

Failing to offer a certificate in non-English language translated by the authorised translator

Lacking to prove a civil certificate (offering a religious document instead)

Not being able to offer certificate that matches with the names of the parties presented on the submitted passports

Not being able to offer a document of the legal sole custody order for the child (if a single parent)

Not being able to offer the legal adoption documents for the adoptive child (for EU Spouse application)

10. Invalid Travel Insurance

The other reason that might lead to a Schengen Visa application fail, is the inability to present the appropriate travel insurance coverage for the duration of stay in the Schengen Area. Such cases might involve:

Failing to provide a travel insurance cover in the anticipated amount

Lacking to provide a travel insurance that does not cover the return of the candidate in home country

The inability to provide a travel insurance whose policy is valid all over the Schengen Area

The incapacity to show a travel insurance that covers the entire days of the trip in the Schengen Area

11. Lacking to present a Proof of Accommodation

An additional factor that might lead for your visa to be refused is not being able to properly demonstrate you have a place to stay during your travel abroad. Such cases include:

Not being able to present an evidence of a hotel reservation,

Lacking to provide the invitation from the host (proof of sponsorship),

Failing to present an evidence of a pre-paid tour.

12. Unfavourable Schengen Visa Situation

What else could destroy one’s Schengen Visa application is earlier history with the Schengen Visa. Such cases include:

Failing to previously respect Schengen Visa limitations (i.e. Overstay in the Schengen Area, failing to follow the presented travel itinerary – by skipping to stay mostly in the main country of destination in the Schengen Area, and so on).

Holding a passport with an active Schengen Visa.
