Thanks for that, mikeansy.

13volts, senseless reasoning like this that causes you to form false equivalences between events in Nigeria and terrorism committed by BH will one day get you and your entire people in serious trouble.

Tread very carefully.

Haba, where you not the same person who quoted according to a Reuters or Bloomberg's articles about two months ago that Lagos population was about 18million latest @ $3,000 per capita? This same population you disputed that the 15 million estimate wasn't accurate, however, wasn't that how they arrived at $54billion? How come is the same population floating roughly about 20 million?
The goal is not an exact #, but a ballpark estimate.

I'm choosing extremely round figures to make the calculations easier. 500/20 is easier to calculate than 492 divided by 18 point whatever. . .

Wetin concern southern leaders in general (e.g., the governor of Ondo) with an intra-ethnic conflict in Ebonyi state?

Again, kindly explain why the governor of Ondo or Delta is compelled to concern himself with this any more than the governor of Zamfara.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Assembly Passes 492 Billion Naira 2012 Budget. by ektbear: 4:17pm On Jan 01, 2012
Population is roughly 20 million. Is N25,000 per head in annual budget really that high? That is about $164.

Akwa Ibom for example will have a similar budget, yet has 1/4 of the population.

It is higher of course per capita than all of the non-oil producing states. But not impressive in an absolute sense. At least in my opinion.

PoliticsRe: Muslim Students Condemn Bombing by ektbear: 12:32pm On Jan 01, 2012
Not to mention that as far as religious purity goes, a H-F probably knows better than try that around the ethnic elite of that religion, the Arabs grin grin

Small pikin (Hausa-Fulani) recognizes who the oga is (Arab.)
PoliticsRe: Muslim Students Condemn Bombing by ektbear: 12:30pm On Jan 01, 2012
Of what use is this so-called religious purity of Hausa-Fulani if it leads to poverty, illiteracy, polio, etc?

For me religion should uplift people, not burden them. And it isn't clear to me that Islam in the north is anything but a burden (not just to them, but to others.)
PoliticsRe: Why Have Southern Leaders Kept Mute On Ezza-eziilo Massacre. by ektbear: 12:28pm On Jan 01, 2012
What does this have to do with southern leaders?

Kindly explain.

I hope you are not trying to compare this incident to BH terrorism. That would be extremely foolish.

PoliticsRe: Gej Yet Again Denies Igbos Of A Refinery by ektbear: 6:15am On Jan 01, 2012
I have never understood this "Lagos is overpopulated" reasoning. Let Lagos decide for itself what it wants the population to be, lol.

Anyway, overpopulated or not, investment is beneficial.

When is the FG gonna hands off the refinery industry? shocked shocked shocked This is really sick and pathetic, govt trying to control "EVERYTHING" is the reason for this corruption and inefficiency of our industries. Like seriously, it's about time they hands off from refinery and electricity and leave it up to the private sector.
Isn't 80% of the funding for these refineries coming from the Chinese? And supposedly some of the remaining 20% they want to source from the private sector.

If it was FG money being used for the lion's share, then your point would make sense.

PoliticsRe: Ethnic Clashes In Ebonyi, Another Slaughter! by ektbear: 10:18pm On Dec 31, 2011
Clashes between rival ethnic groups in eastern Nigeria's Ebonyi state on Saturday killed at least 50 people, the state government spokesman said, and police said mobile units had been sent to the state to quell the violence.

Wow. All this wahala in Nigeria. . .

No problem. If you can find it, R.E. Bradbury's 1957 book gives a very thorough survey of all of the "Edoid" ethnic groups of the former Midwest - their traditions, methods of social organization, religious beliefs, etc. and it's highly detailed and informative. Bradbury's book is not available online unfortunately.

From all available written information, there is nowhere in Edo north that is "Nupoid", although there must definitely be some people of originally Nupe descent there. Edo north is thoroughly "Edoid" with a few exceptions.
Interesting enough, I actually own a copy of that book. But haven't yet read it.
you still shouldnt discount the little information they can give you.
Agreed.

@tpia: This is something I'm fairly certain that my parents or grandparents would not know. None of them are historians, nor are we connected to Edo or Nupe in any meaningful way. But on stuff they would know, I ask them.

The parts of R.E. Bradbury's 1957 book that refer to Etsako and Ivbiosakon history and traditions do mention the Nupe invasion, though not in great detail.

Here's a link with some references to written work by others on the Nupe invasions (under the part "Kukuruku Wars"wink

http://www.edo-nation.net/edoconf2.htm

You can follow up the references cited for specifics, of course. I think there are some errors in that article though.

Here's another article written by somebody from Edo north:

tpia, if you can point me to a good reference on this Nupe/Edo connection, I'd appreciate it. I searched around on Jstor (a bit clumsily) but wasn't able to find anything. Even just the name of a significant figure would be enough (say a king or general), I can find the rest once I have that.

PoliticsRe: Boko Haram To Bomb Lagos - Unconfirmed Intelligence Reports! by ektbear: 7:19pm On Dec 30, 2011
There will of course be casualties on both sides in any incident. But when someone outnumbers you massively and is thirsty for your blood, the casualties tend to be lopsided.

There is no bragging. Simply a pretty good prediction of what will happen.
PoliticsRe: Boko Haram To Bomb Lagos - Unconfirmed Intelligence Reports! by ektbear: 7:16pm On Dec 30, 2011
If this happens, then every aboki man, woman and child's life in Lagos is forfeit.

Angry mob violence is a terrible thing.

It will make the previous Sagamu incident look like a stroll in the park.

I guess there is this hypothesis that oil-rich states attract corruption. Yet given the amount that Bayelsa brings in annually, can't you be very corrupt and still making an impact?

I honestly do not know what the reason is.

Lol.

Less time spent editing other people's posts and being a general douchebag, more time editing your own posts correctly and learning how to spell "loser."

Pro-tip: Looser is used as in, "ACM10's family was surprised to find out that his occupation involves wiping the yansh and cleaning up after the aged with bowels looser than that of most folk."
