Was a pretty solid article imo. Not perfect, but pretty good. |
Harsh, blunt, but I think basically the truth. I probably would have stated it more diplomatically if I hadn't read the article linked above first. |
Na wa o So you think "fuel parasite", "your ethnic group is a parasite because you are protesting" is comparable to this? I didn't know that appealing to racism, bigotry and crude ethnic sentiment was an acceptable part of playing politics |
Why do you think that people will only protest if the ACN tells them to? It is human nature for people to protest against what they perceive as petrol prices doubling and gov't insensitivity. In general, big change=>big reaction |
Politics? Democrats do it, Republicans do it, the ACN does it. Isn't anything new. if you are paying attention to the Republican primaries right now, then you are also seeing more of this game. |
ACN governors (and the governors more generally) obviously are not going to be in favor of keeping the fuel subsidy. Fuel subsidy removed=> more money for them. And who is going to be against more money to control? However, this doesn't mean the ACN will not attempt to reap politically from this unpopular PDP move ![]() |
Basically, despite being different groups with different languages and cultures, you middle belt peoples (and we Yoruba, for that matter) have a common enemy. The Fulani and the Hausa. All of us, our history to some extent has been defined by combating this Sokoto Caliphate. And 200+ years later, the battle is not yet won. The struggle continues. That I think is enough to define common interest. And until this Sokoto Caliphate and their descendants/allies are completely destroyed, we have to stick together. |
karfe:This theory seems too convenient. Would be politically useful if true, but doesn't sound plausible. Jukun for example aren't even really indigenous to Nigeria right? Or rather, they only settled in the region within the past 1000 or so years. Nok on the other hand is a B.C. culture. Unfortunately, the middle belt appears to be a collection of culturally, ethnically and linguistically heterogeneous peoples. However, just because that is true doesn't mean you don't have a common interest today. Build around that. |
If it were me running things in the SW, as the SS states implement oil subsidies, I would implement oil taxes. Raise taxation to the level where oil is +N40/liter over the price elsewhere in the country, and then you get to benefit from smuggled oil ![]() |
If anyone here thinks that selling something for $5/barrel when it is worth $100/barrel doesn't represent a subsidy, then we can discuss privately via email or Skype me purchasing a N1000 bill from them for N50 ![]() |
Pukkah:Where on earth is one able to buy oil for $5/barrel from? The international price is ~$100. Where is this other $95 coming from? Who is paying for it? (Answer, the Nigerian government is paying for it, if you force it to sell the crude for $5 when it can get $100 for it.) |
I am surprised that you haven't picked up on the game. All of these major business moguls are PDP supporters and financiers, to my knowledge. The relationship between them is symbiotic, not antagonistic. |
It is depressing to me that some unfortunate events in the 1800s and certain biased decisions by the British really fvcked over a lot of people. Articles like this make me hate the British, Fulani and Hausa and wish for their destruction. |
Excellent news for any towns that border Rivers State. . . marginally bad news for Rivers State itself, though. |
Gbawe has said most of what needs to be said. My own position on the subsidy is well known, at this point. So I don't begrudge anyone who decides not to protest. The problem I have is that some are: 1) trying to characterize those who are protesting as parasites 2) characterizing entire ethnic groups as parasites based on these protests 3) and trying to play a game of holier-than-thou. Live and let live. . . if you are for the subsidy-removal, you aren't obliged to protest, and if you are against it, by all means protest. Freedom of speech, right of assembly, all that jazz. Just don't play games with the situation. |
DRANOEL:Hmm, interesting. |
Abiolanzy:lol |
The total value of the oil sold is about $1.25 per day per person in Nigeria. In Saudi, $33. In other words, $12,000/year even if everyone does absolutely nothing in Saudi but scratches their @ss for the year. Like I said, he is 100% correct. |
He is right. Do the math. |
The attempts to tribalize this are sad and pathetic. Mark well which people are ethnicizing this issue, Nigerians (and the world at large more generally.) They are venomous vipers. |
"It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White" - MJ |
This stuff is a bit weird though. Some girls enjoy being slapped and choked. . . in the bedroom. But outside of it, if you do the same, wahala dey ![]() Kind of interesting to me. |
You think that Hitler's Moustache style na just fashion?
lol ![]() |
Honestly though, women should have the sense to leave physically abusive relationships. Nobody should have to tell 'em. |
In that case, you may as well just write checks. But the question is, how do you do this in a country with poor record-keeping? |
The people need electricity, not useless propaganda. Fresh air won't power any homes or businesses. . . |
lol how skinny can she be? And unless her chest and behind are also skinny, I don't see the problem ![]() |
lmao @ her story. Ridiculous. |
Lol no. Pretty much all of the female friends I have, there is some level of s3xual attraction. Either a lot or at least a little. I don't think it is possible for a man and a woman to be platonic friends. |
Who would you suggest these women date/marry instead? |
OK, above is very poorly stated. Basically there is some tax level the oil companies pay. . . X%. Of this, 87% goes to the FG. 13% to the states. So if you want "state collect all taxes", then 100% of that base tax level (X) will go to the states. The way I wrote it earlier makes it seem as if the tax rate paid by the oil companies is 87%. |
