And who said anyone would kick out Igbos? If an Igbo man has a business in the SW that is generating revenue and thus paying taxes, he presumably will sell it to someone else, no? The new owner will still have a profit incentive (since he paid hard cash for the business) and will try to make as much as he can from it. This still contributing to IGR.

This is obviously different from a Zimbabwe-style landgrab, a pogrom, or what Idi Amin did.

In general, if you want to make an analogy, perhaps best to ensure that the things you are comparing are comparable. . .

The point is, having invested money into making money (building shops, etc), they won't just let said shops die. They'll sell it off and it will still continue to produce tax revenue even after changing hands (granted, things are a bit more subtle than this. But this captures the aggregate effect.)

Without Rivers State joining you, the SE is in just as bad a spot financially as the North. I am sure that if we look at the #s for Delta, almost none of the IGR comes from Delta North. So that won't be of any help either.

Akwa Ibom is not going to give you any money either.

Regarding "stand" on their own, your strongest state (Abia) has less IGR than Oyo and Ogun. Ondo produces more oil than your entire zone. Lagos needs no mention. So that is 4 states stronger than the strongest state in your zone!

SE doesn't produce much oil. Looks like most of Nigeria's oil production is from Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa. None of which are in the SE. . .

Even in a hypothetical SW nation, I'd implement full resource control. This isn't a problem, since we are all from the same ethnic group and freedom of movement in the SW is already easy.

I who call myself an Ekiti man, my grandfather's brother has lived in Ibadan since the 50s. . . and my cousins on that side are all "omo Ibadan." When you have a dynamic like that, true federalism or even a share the cake type of setup are both fine, since everyone feels they are part of a larger whole.

Nigeria otoh lacks this.

Dapo, its a lot more complex than that. You are looking at it from the ethnic lens and it should not be so. Ijaws and Ilajes produce 25% and 10% respectively in delta state but more on that later. You see, Delta state is not about "make I favour my people" because your "people" alone did not get you there. Ijaws en-mass voted for Uduagan also, among other ethnic groups.

Yeah that was my impression too. Most of the oil in Delta sef comes from Itsekiri. Incidentally, this is why I have mixed feeling about Uduaghan. He seems to be a very bad governor and crook. But after all, is it not his own Itsekiri people's money he is stealing?  So they are the ones who can condemn him the most.

Realistically, if Nigeria scatters, most of Rivers will join the SE. Delta North will join the SE.

Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers will try to avoid joining the SE (Akwa Ibom especially has no reason to, since it is by far the richest state in Nigeria, it appears.)

Edo, I think there is a solid chance they'd team up with SW in some sort of federation. Itsekiri I suspect would also team up with us. Same with Western Kogi and probably Kwara.

As for Urhobo, Ijaw, etc, i don't know what they'd do.

Beaf, I don't think that is a big deal. Even if your map is accurate, what can the distance be? 30 miles?

Just buy/lease a 30 mile strip of road to connect the two regions. Costs a few million a year or something.

Alaska doesn't border the lower 49, Russia has a territory in mainland Europe (bordering Germany or Poland or something), etc.

I have no personal problem with a federation in southern Nigeria. But you should envision something like the European union. . . essentially purely independent states just united by a common currency.

SW leadership and SW region period indeed does have a "separate identity", and has always had one. We are a different people from others in Nigeria and Africa and the world more generally, so natural to have a separate identity.

That this identity is connected "umbilically (sp)"  to the core north is certainly an interesting hypothesis, but not grounded in reality.

It is not up to @haka_nai to disprove the data. It is up to any of you who dispute it to do so.

In any case, is this IGR data not reported by each of the states to the CBN? And are state budgets not made publicly available?

Someone is going to have to demonstrate why this data is screwy, rather than just claiming it w/o and proof.

Anyway, those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Not a fan of the north, but the #s do not lie. If the North cannot stand alone, then neither can the SE.
