PoliticsRe: Nigeria: All Out "war" And "violence" Breaks Out! by ektbear: 1:15pm On Nov 10, 2011
I think most people are willing to die for things that they truly believe in.

If I had son, I'd be willing to die for him.

And if I am willing to do this for my son, how much more an entire people?

But of course, one can only do this for things that they view as greater than themselves, things they love and value highly.
PoliticsRe: ACN Urges NDA To Withdraw Hon Degrees From Akpabio & Alison-madueke by ektbear: 12:56pm On Nov 10, 2011
If you dash out honorary degrees to any tom, d1ck and harry, then the prestige of your institution diminishes.

Oh well, let the NDA whatever it likes.

Interesting question.

I love my country of residence, but I love my homeland and its people more.

So definitely if the worst comes to worst, I'd help in any way possible. I think my talents would best be used on the technical side. . .but I'd be willing to do whatever my people need me to do.

Perhaps it is just youth, naivety and romanticism speaking, but I don't think dying to serve the cause of your people is the worst way to die. At least it is a meaningful death rather than a meaningless one. They'd put up a statue of me in my hometown at least, lol.

Granted, it would be best not to have to take any risks at all. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. . .

BusinessRe: Google Trader Nigeria To Compete With Dealfish, Tradestable, Nairalist by ektbear: 9:38am On Nov 10, 2011
Seun, you really need to put some effort and possibly team up with another organization to leverage NL for Nairalist. You do have something that no one else has atm.

Perhaps randomly display relevant listings from Nairalist onto NL?

I don't know, but worth brainstorming and thinking about rather than just quitting.
PoliticsRe: Why Do Ladies Shy Away From Politics & Political Discussions? by ektbear: 9:26am On Nov 10, 2011
Regarding "Nigeria politics is too complicated for women", what do you mean by that?
PoliticsRe: Why Do Ladies Shy Away From Politics & Political Discussions? by ektbear: 7:27am On Nov 10, 2011
All the shots taken back and forth crack me the hell up grin

This is part of the reason I don't even watch TV anymore or play online games. . . NL politics section is far more amusing than either grin

Anyway, Jenifa, I'm not sure that the root causes you blame (sharia, formal workforce, etc) are good reasons. After all, even in the West, women participate less vigorously in political discussion than men, right? Go to any of these republican or democratic political sites, and you find mostly dudes.

I'm not sure what the reason is. Perhaps just fundamental gender differences? I don't know. Women also don't like violent sports as much as guys do (or sports, period.) Perhaps there is connection. . .

So from the OPs translation, you were able to conclude that the media source they got this info from was SR?

Flat earth indeed.

You are a m0ron, dude. Anyway, the point of this exercise was to expose your stupidity, not to cure you of it. Only person who can do the latter is God.

PoliticsRe: Muslim Youths Batter Pastor Over His Comment On Road Blockage On Sallah Day by ektbear: 2:29am On Nov 10, 2011
Nobody has a right to block a public road, without prior permission from the relevant authorities.

There is no way to justify this. . . I don't see any reason to discuss this further if you don't get this basic point.

Regarding the demographics of Abuja, w/o a census, know one will know. But I would not be surprised if there are as many Christians there as Muslims.
PoliticsRe: Allison Madueke Buys €20M Mansion In Vienna - Saharareporters by ektbear: 2:16am On Nov 10, 2011
No where in the OPs translation of the text is SR mentioned. . . . .how did you come to your conclusion?

And again, of what relevance is SR now that this article has been verified as real?
PoliticsRe: Allison Madueke Buys €20M Mansion In Vienna - Saharareporters by ektbear: 2:05am On Nov 10, 2011
1. Where does it show in this German-language article that they are quoting Nigerian sources? Granted, I don't speak or read German. Perhaps you do. If so, kindly highlight the relevant paragraph and provide a translation.
2. How did you prove that Sahara Reporters is the "Nigerian source" they are quoting? I'm not a journalist, but in every single newspaper article I've read before in my life, when one newspaper gets info from another, they name that other newspaper. Not say, "Nigerian source."
PoliticsRe: Muslim Youths Batter Pastor Over His Comment On Road Blockage On Sallah Day by ektbear: 2:00am On Nov 10, 2011
There is a difference, even though the end result is the same. One is legal, the other is not. And that matters.

I am almost 100% certain that whoever throws the new year's eve ball in NYC gets a permit first.

Majority of northerners may be Muslim, but Abuja is not necessarily majority Muslim. For all we know there are more Christians there, tbh.

Majority or not, you cannot flout the law and inconvenience even a minority.

What is this damn m-0ron beaf talking about. Go to page 12 of the link provided and see for yourself.

Of what relevance is SR at this point, now that we have the original source of the article?

9jaganja:
Please please,   Please during parades etc,  roads are blocked too,  Notting Hill carnival in the UK is same,  Caribana in Toronto, is same, it goes on,  So please don't display your ignorance here
Don't you need a permit for all of these things? Randomly blocking the road without getting a permit from the city and paying a fee would probably get me jailed. . .

The Schaum's outline for data structures in java has really bad reviews lol. Perhaps best to avoid it. You can find the book I linked to above on bittorrent or one of the download sites.

http://www.careercup.com/ is a good resource I've heard, with lots of free puzzles.

I haven't really been using that to prepare though. I bought a couple books ("Cracking the coding interview" , "Algorithms for Interviews"wink and am reading through them a bit.
PoliticsRe: Can The North Stand Alone? by ektbear: 9:23am On Nov 09, 2011
We are all entitled to our own delusions. Yours for example of believing that the SE has high IGR when in fact you have the second lowest in Nigeria.

Your advice, please keep it for yourself. I don't remember asking you for any words of wisdom.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian States And Zones Ranked By Igr by ektbear(op): 9:20am On Nov 09, 2011
Empty barrels do make the most noise indeed.

@Pifa: Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, I believe? But that column refers to money coming from the federation account (VAT [a sales tax in nigeria], port revenue, and oil.)
PoliticsRe: Can The North Stand Alone? by ektbear: 9:16am On Nov 09, 2011
Maybe all of these maps you and Becomerich are posting will increase the dismal IGR #s for your zone grin

Continue to post maps!
PoliticsRe: Can The North Stand Alone? by ektbear: 9:13am On Nov 09, 2011
Na wa o. Becomerich 2.0, it seems undecided like most remixes, less entertaining than the original.

Alright, so this map of yours. First, it doesn't actually say production per state. From that picture one might get the impression that Akwa Ibom earns less in oil revenue per year when in fact it earns the highest in Nigeria, or close (at least, inferring from federal allocations.)

Second, most of the points are in Rivers area. But no one is denying that Rivers State (and much of the rest of the SS) has oil, are they? So what exactly is your point, bub?

Moreover, last I checked, Ondo State produces more oil than this SE zone of yours (you can dig this up yourself and verify.) So even if we want to reduce everything to oil, who told you that the SW has none? And I don't want to hear any of these stories of billions of barrels of oil untapped in Anambra, blahblahblahblah. Like I said, this is not a thread for tales by moonlight,

Facts are stubborn things. No amount of talking around them will make them go away. Now the fact of the matter is that the SE has the smallest IGR of any zone in Nigeria, aside from the NE. So who really are we trying to fool?

Notice the consistent picture painted by every piece of quantitatve data available about the SE. GDP as reported by that company in the Wikipedia article, small. GDP as estimated by World Bank, (or was it UNDP? I cannot remember which, this was discussed a few months ago) small. Even in the 50s and 60s prior to oil, GDP/capita in the East on par with the North, and only 60% or so thatof the West. The same consistent picture painted by all pieces of data we have available.

Yet if you'd believe these people, small IGR for North  = abject poverty but small IGR for SE = low taxation, government that isn't interested in taxing its populace grin grin

Please find someone else interested in buying this bullcrap story. Cuz I ain't buying it!

And next time I hear any of ya'll say that another zone is a parasite, all you will get from me is a digitized dirty slap through the internet.

^-- Yeah, basically the highest-paying companies in the software industry all make you go through tons of algorithms puzzles. So really important to get good at it.
PoliticsRe: Can The North Stand Alone? by ektbear: 4:42am On Nov 09, 2011
I'll return in a few hours. Let us see if anyone can find a way to spin the 2nd worst IGR in Nigeria as a positive. I'm all ears, lol.
