Ah, I'm not a one-Nigerianist. "Abia for Abians" would align more with my philosophy. It is their homeland, they should get the first crack at government jobs in it. Assuming that qualified indigenes exist, that is. |
In a nutshell, I hope that this country is dissolved and partitioned before 2015. I don't really want another one of these dudes as president again |
Articles like this. . . bleh What was the literacy rate 4 years or 8 years ago? What is the national/zonal average? Etc, etc. Just throwing out the number by itself isn't that useful |
| Print | E-mail Friday, 09 September 2011 Lagos State deputy governor, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has disclosed that the literacy level in Lagos State has reached 87 per cent if compared on state by state basis, adding that the effort of the present administration in improving the standard of education is yielding the desired results. Mrs Adefulire, who was speaking at an event marking the 2011 World Literacy Day celebration organised by the Lagos State government in partnership with the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) and Ecole de Desssin in Lagos, said in the past years, the Lagos State government had been introducing policies and programmes towards the development of the education sector to combat illiteracy, ignorance and poverty among its citizens. She noted that the improvement recorded in the education sector was commendable and traceable to these initiatives, one of which was the EKO Project, which she said the government would continue to pursue for the benefits of the future leaders. “Currently, we have about 87.8 per cent literacy level. That is not to say that we are satisfied. We are not relaxing at all as we are committed to achieving a 100 per cent literacy rate and as a key aspect of our 10-point agenda, we would continue to place education of our children as a priority which will include the implementation of the Child Rights Law that emphasises “right to education of every child,” Adefulire added. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/27983-literacy-level-in-lagos-now-87-adefulire |
Why is this wrong? Does Abia have no capable indigenes to serve in these civil servant positions? Or should the assistant of the LG chairman be from Zamfara or Enugu? Man I dunno, maybe I'm thinking about this in a foolish way |

Part of the disconnect here is that @emmke (a middle belter) doesn't seem to realize that NC is very, very different from the NE and NW in development metrics. Usually when people say that "the North lags behind", they are referring to the core north. Not the middle belt. Yes, NC is behind. But they seem to be working hard to close the gap. See this thread for example: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-725471.0.html |
They can have power in 2015 and for all of time beyond that. In their own separate republic, that is. |
We should contribute this N7 billion to the Republic of Southern EktBearia The people of that great nation will appreciate the gesture |
woetooam4j:Fstranger, your attention is wanted on this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-755257.32.html PS: When did you become a "real Lagosian?" Hehe |
Every zone should have the same # of states. Even better, the zones should be the federating units, not states (imo). If a zone wants 100 states for itself. . . no problem, that is their own business. Obviously though, the amount of money said zone gets from the FG, senators, etc should remain the same. Texas, California, New York, as big and populated they are are only 1 state each. |
They have nobody to blame but themselves |
@djustice: You seem to hate the ACN, Tinubu, and Fashola. What would you suggest replacing them with in Lagos and the SW more generally? |
Interesting. |
Greenslim:Yep. Best president so far. Not that that necessarily says much. |
The Americans concluded thus; They were not fooled, they know Nigeria more than our leaders.
Indeed. But Nigeria isn't that complicated a country to understand, hehe |
